A Bag of Cats
by djlons-vga
Being an older parent (raised in the 1980's) it is hard for me to relate to everything 2020+. For this reason my 9 year old daughter and I are going to hash things out in our conversations. Mostly it will be a comparison of her day and time versus my old fashioned ways.

The Summer Vacation Episode
Apparently we were both having an A.D.D. day on this episode. I tried to keep us on topic. Just one of those days I guess.

The One with the Recorders
Baby D had a concert at her school and I wasn't able to go to it live, but it reminded me of my fourth grade experience with the recorders. We played and played them until we picked an instrument. So, unplanned, we picked this topic to talk about. I apologize as this episode is even way more "unscripted" than any other episode we've done and, oddly enough, it is probably the longest episode and I wasn't even able to include the concert audio from her school...lucky you, nah, it wasn't that bad at all actually,.

Our P.S.A. on the Humane Society
We are currently fostering animals from the Michigan Humane Society and figured it would be a good thing to talk about the process.

The Memorial Day Weekend Episode
I thought it would be nice to speak to Baby D about Memorial Day. Sometimes they explain this stuff to kids in school but I wanted to get her take on remembering the fallen and understanding that our troops give much to us regardless of if someone is in the supply chain or fighting on the front line. They all do an amazing job keeping us safe everyday.Baby D got a little philosophical regarding death, which I had to take offline to speak to her, but I left some of it in the recording so you could hear her take, as she doesn't quite understand life and death yet,

The Memory Episode
I always knew my daughter was quite smart, but I didn't know her memory was so good. She surprised me this week so I thought we would have an episode on hers versus my memory.

The One With All The Cats
Our (my) cat, Buffy, passed away this past week so I thought it would be nice to dedicate an episode to her that was about cats. Baby D brings up a song sung in "Friends" so I named the episode like a "Friends" episode. Denise also created a song using "SUNO", which is an application that, apparently, uses AI to take words she writes to create a song. She wrote a song for Buffy the day she was put to sleep. That song is at the end of this podcast episode.

They're Playin' Basketball

Hair Today Cut Tomorrow
So this episode is really strange. We started the episode on Saturday after her first ever hair appointment. The Squarock box crapped out on us half way through the episode. I didn't realize the box retained it's own back up power. I hadn't turned on the actual power to the box. So there were MANY technical difficulties. We ended up recording the opisode in record time and thought we were done. I figured I would edit after we came back from Applebee's. Unfortunately, when I went to run my edit on it I found out there was an issue with the sound itself and the Squarock box didn't record the audio (that's another story).Anyway, this episode is the shortest of our lot so far. The actual episode is only 6 minutes. The rest is the audio that was screwed up from both sessions. I wanted to retain it for myself mostly. Anyway, try to enjoy this.

Roller Skating 2026 vs 1986
Baby D's school had a skate night last night and I thought about the differences in the way things are done now versus when I was a kid. So, we discuss some of those differences.

Different Types of Family
Baby D was off the chain on this episode. I wanted her take on family. I had just brought her back from seeing one of her brothers and one of her sisters. So I thought it would be a good time to explain different types of family. It didn't go exactly

A Few Places Baby D Has Been
This recording ends abruptly because she was having a very hard time paying attention, she wouldn't speak into the microphone and she wouldn't stop playing with her iPhone. She was playing a game and metaphysically "phoning it in" this time. The podcast ends with her just saying "Good-bye" and leaving the room.Sorry.
