    Episode 9: "Two Parties": 2 Samuel 6:1-5, 12b-19; Mark 6:14-29

In this episode of A Daughter’s Journey in Faith, we reflect on the 5th Sunday of Easter through two powerful and contrasting stories. We begin with the celebration of King David in 2 Samuel as he brings the ark of the Lord into Jerusalem with joy, dancing, and praise. Then we turn to Mark’s Gospel, where King Herod’s birthday feast—filled with pride and self-interest—ends in tragedy with the death of John the Baptist. In his sermon, “Two Parties,” my father explores the difference between celebrations centered on God and those driven by ego and worldly desire. Through vivid imagery and a personal story from a visit to the Taste of Chicago, he challenges us to examine what lies at the heart of our own celebrations. In my reflection, I share memories of my dad, connections to family traditions, and even an unexpected link to Footloose—all pointing back to one central question: What is in our hearts when we celebrate? As we move through our own lives—our gatherings, milestones, and everyday moments—this episode invites us to pause and consider where our focus lies, and how gratitude, faith, and love can transform even the simplest celebration into something sacred. Thank you for being part of this journey. 💛

    Episode 8: "Are you Afraid?": 1 Samuel 17:1a, 4-11, 19-23, 32-49; Mark 4:35-41

In this episode, we reflect on a sermon centered on faith over fear. Drawing from First Book of Samuel and Gospel of Mark, this message explores what it means to trust God in the midst of fear—whether we are facing life’s storms or standing before a giant that feels impossible to overcome. As I read my father’s sermon, I reflect on how easy it is to panic when life feels overwhelming, and how powerful it is to remember that we are not alone. Just as David trusted God against Goliath, and the disciples were reminded that Jesus was in the boat with them, we are called to shift our focus from what we fear to who we trust. If you’ve ever felt like you’re drowning in life’s circumstances or facing something that feels too big to handle, this episode is a reminder that God is with you—and you don’t have to face it alone.

Episode 7: Grace in the Text and in the Word – Psalm 23; 1 John 3:16-24

In this episode, we reflect on a sermon centered on grace-driven love in action. Drawing from Psalm 23 and First Epistle of John, this message explores what it means to love one another not just in words, but through our actions—while accepting that we do so imperfectly. As I read my father’s sermon written on the day of his ordination, I reflect on the pressure we place on ourselves to be perfect, and the freedom that comes from realizing we don’t have to be. God calls us to love, to serve, and to use our gifts—not flawlessly, but faithfully. If you’ve ever struggled with perfectionism, judgment, or finding it hard to love others the way you feel you should, this episode is a reminder that God is greater than our shortcomings.

Episode 4: In Truth and Action: 1 John 3:16-24; John 10:11-18

In this episode of A Daughter’s Journey in Faith, Jennie Wilson-Moore reads and reflects on a sermon written by her father, Rev. Dr. Kim Wilson, originally preached on May 3, 2009, the Fourth Sunday of Easter. Drawing from 1 John 3:16–24 and John 10:11–18, this message explores the meaning of love as demonstrated by Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd who laid down his life for his sheep. The sermon reminds us that love is not simply something we speak about—it is something we live out through our actions. As the Easter season continues, the message challenges believers to move beyond words and to practice love in tangible ways. True faith calls us not only to believe, but to care for those in need, to listen to the prompting of the Holy Spirit, and to respond with compassion and generosity. Jennie reflects personally on how love expressed through actions shaped her own childhood and parenting, and how the lessons of this sermon continue to resonate today. Through small acts of kindness, forgiveness, and care for others, we begin to live out the love Christ showed the world. This episode invites listeners to consider how they might put love into action in their own lives and to listen for where God may be calling them to serve.

    Episode 5: Bearing Fruit: 1 John 4:7-21; John 15:1-8

Welcome to A Daughter’s Journey in Faith, where Jennie Wilson-Moore reads and reflects on sermons written by her father, Rev. Dr. Kim Wilson, while continuing her own journey of faith. In this episode, Jennie shares a sermon originally preached on May 10, 2009, the Fifth Sunday of Easter, titled “Bearing Fruit.” The message draws from 1 John 4:7–21 and John 15:1–8, where Jesus teaches that He is the vine and we are the branches. Through the imagery of gardening and tending a vineyard, the sermon explores what it truly means to “bear fruit” in our lives as followers of Christ. Jennie’s father reflects on lessons from his own grandmother, a lifelong gardener who carefully nurtured her crops and understood the patience and care required to produce good fruit. In the same way, Jesus teaches that our lives must remain connected to Him if we are to produce fruit that truly matters. The sermon contrasts the temporary fruits of worldly success with the lasting fruit of love, faith, and compassion. True fruit is found in the ways we care for one another—through kindness, generosity, prayer, and small acts of love that reflect God’s presence in our lives. Jennie also reflects on her family legacy of faith, sharing how the grandmother mentioned in the sermon—her great-grandmother Jennie, whom she was named after—played an important role in shaping her father’s life and faith. This episode invites listeners to consider how they remain connected to Christ in their daily lives and how even the smallest acts of love can become meaningful expressions of faith. As you go through your week, Jennie encourages you to do something kind for someone else—whether it’s a smile, a prayer, or an unexpected act of generosity—and experience what it means to truly bear fruit.

    Episode 3: Fear and Joy - Acts 3:12–19 & Luke 24:36–48

In this episode of A Daughter’s Journey in Faith, Jennie Wilson-Moore reads and reflects on a sermon written by her father, Rev. Dr. Kim Wilson, originally preached on April 26, 2009, the Third Sunday of Easter. Beginning with readings from Acts 3:12–19 and Luke 24:36–48, this message explores the powerful and sometimes surprising relationship between fear and joy. After the resurrection, the disciples experienced both emotions at once as the risen Christ appeared among them and greeted them with the words, “Peace be with you.” Through this sermon, we are reminded that Christianity is grounded in a real event witnessed and shared across generations—the resurrection of Jesus. As believers, we are called to live in that mystery and to become witnesses ourselves. Jennie reflects on how fear and joy often walk hand in hand in our own lives—from life’s biggest transitions to everyday worries—and how the peace Christ offered to the disciples can still calm our hearts today. Even in the midst of life’s chaos, faith invites us to hold onto both the reality of fear and the deeper promise of joy.

Episode 2: The Precious Oil of Unity - Psalm 133, Acts 4:32-35, and 1 John 1:1–2:2

In this episode of A Daughter’s Journey in Faith, Jennie Wilson-Moore reads and reflects on a sermon written by her father, Rev. Dr. Kim Wilson, originally preached on April 19, 2009, the Second Sunday of Easter. Drawing from Psalm 133, Acts 4:32-35, and 1 John 1:1–2:2, the message explores the call for believers to live together in unity, fellowship, and love. Just as Easter marks the beginning of a new chapter for Christians, this sermon reminds us that our work continues in how we treat one another—with grace, kindness, and a shared commitment to Christ. Through the powerful imagery of “the precious oil of unity,” we are invited to consider how love and fellowship can transform our families, our communities, and our world. Jennie reflects on how unity does not require agreement in everything, but it does call us to treat one another with dignity, respect, and compassion. As the journey continues, this episode challenges us to begin with small acts of love and kindness in our daily lives.
