A Place to Scream

In times of strife or chaos, where do you run to find your solace? For us, it is the comforting depths of our childhood inner worlds; a place created not only to cope with the uncontrollable and the inhuman, but a safe place for curiosity and discovery. However (comma) there is a common narrative within our digital age to pathologize that which is in fact an act of radical resistance. We are told that we are "age regressing" or "isolating", or that we "think too hard" and are "too worried" about the abundantly evident reality we are living. We are here to say, "I refuse" and "I pity you"! As the brilliant minds of Black Radical Feminism remind us, it is our radicalized selves and inner worlds that bring us to liberation; it is our commitment to self archival and collective memory that brings us towards heart connection, not just simply belonging. insta: @place2scream , @safara___ , @lagnajita14substack: SafeWord!  

We're beginning to think this whole thing is rigged?!...but perhaps, not in the way you would think. Who are we, really, behind the avatar we use to move about our modern multi-verse of online and interpersonal relationships. Between Love Island discourse and World Cup mania, our heads have been turned and what once felt self evident, has been co-opted to serve the insatiable hunger for cultural homogeneity by the capital machine. 

If you're driving, put it in park- if you're standing, please be sat. Because today, we are ripping off the bandaid and diving in heart first into the scary wounds of commitment. It is one thing to be committed to liberation on a practical, more logic driven, level, but what does it mean to be dedicated to what Toni Cade Bambara refers to as "the radicalized self"? What does it look like to deject from a culture of surveillance and punishment to seek the still quiet voice of wholeness? We are told that our human response to inhuman behavior is "cringe" and that our desire to connect will eventually lead to betrayal and heartbreak. What if resignation wasn't our only choice? Buckle up kids, cause you're in for a ride! Why should I accept and herald the pilfered art of a colonized people presented to me through the gaze and institutional backing of whiteness? Well, we don't! And on today's episode you're gonna hear exactly why. It is time to deprogram from the centering of mediocre culture "creation" that does nothing but steal, co-opt or attempt to emulate the brilliance of Black & Brown art and culture. It is time to break free from white dominated media narratives about how to perceive ourselves as the global majority and champion the artists and creatives who's work continues the dialogue and heartbeat of the generations of artists who came before.
