Hi friends! Today we've got our final discussion of Season 1 of The Institute on MGM+. It has been renewed so we will be back for Season 2 one day in the hopefully not too distant future! In the meantime, in the pipeline this week is a surprise episode discussing our first documentary - Ewan McGregor's Long Way Home (because who doesn't love Ewan McGregor). And then we will drop our discussion on the final half of Season 2 of Wednesday. But more than anything, we are most excited to be returning soon to our usual format of one episode a week, spanning the whole season of a show - and that show will be announced soon!

Come back in September for our discussion on the last four episodes of Wednesday, which drop on Netflix on September 3rd. And in the meantime, we highly recommend watching The Institute on MGM which we're enjoying immensely - we'll be podcasting the second half of that season as soon as it finishes in a few weeks. This second episode of three is entitled, “Social and Political Themes of The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu”.The Handmaid’s Tale book has been hailed as a literary classic as well as an important cautionary tale that has become ever more relevant every year since the book’s publishing in 1985. The show’s creation in 2016 felt especially timely, and many have sought to use the striking visuals and symbolism of the show as a representation for feminism. The recent finale of the show has left audiences torn on whether this ended as a good message of feminism, or a message gone astray. This episode will address many of the events and messages of the show as it relates to that discourse, as well as the history that has come before it, and the politics that have, and will continue to influence the world as we know it.Please come back next week for a third and final episode in this Meta Mini-Series to wrap our years of podcasting The Handmaid’s Tale. Today, we have the unbelievable honor of chatting with Ann Dowd, yet another woman who absolutely requires no introduction!But just for good measure, Ann plays Aunt Lydia Clements, the primary “Aunt” in the show, in charge of the management, care, and occasional torture of the handmaids. Ann’s portrayal of this complicated woman often takes her from moments of endearment to acts of violence in mere seconds on screen and she portrays each side of the spectrum (and everything in between) flawlessly and with such passion the audience is absolutely enraptured with her. She has won an Emmy for her performance of this role but perhaps the highest compliment for her portrayal is the fact that after seeing Ann as Lydia in the show, Margaret Atwood wrote a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale that largely focuses specifically on the character of Aunt Lydia. I’m not sure it gets more flattering than that. In addition to The Handmaid’s Tale, Ann has acted in so many beloved movies and television shows over the decades, from Green Card and Philadelphia in the 90s to Mass and The Leftovers more recently. She’s an absolute legend and we are so honored to have been granted her time and attention – she is the absolute LOVELIEST.
