After Lunch

This Dragonfly Ripple rerun isn't a full episode. The behind-the-scenes details are lost ten years later, but for whatever reason, we must have been running behind getting the fourth episode done. Happily, Carlin and Dashiell came through with this short installment of "Jetpack Tiger".

Evan, Pax, Rob, and Michael chat about who's been a Kyle Chandler fan the longest, reading long books, Ride or Die, and the results of our Summer Movie Wager.

In this rerun episode of Dragonfly Ripple: Bringing Up the Next Generation of Nerd, Michael and Carlin talked to their kids about Westerns… with a twist (or "twisterns").  Carlin and Annaliese watched the 1993-94 Bruce Campbell series on FOX, The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. while Michael and David delved into the 1960s TV series (and 1990s Will Smith movie) The Wild, Wild West. Both shows are Westerns, but feature sci-fi, spy, and steampunk elements.    And the opening chat between Michael and Carlin sets up Episode 4 by talking about the order in which we present the Star Wars films to our children. Plus, in "Jetpack Tiger," we talk about the Star Wars Clone Wars cartoon.

As Michael, Rob, and Pax travel the slow and gentle road to 2028's Fast Forever, we use the next entry in the series, Fast & Furious Spy Racers, to have a broader discussion about the trend of turning live action movies and TV shows into animated series. We talk about our favorites, then ride for a few episodes specifically with the Spy Racers show, and finish by pitching our own cartoon series based on live action movies.

In this second episode rerunning Carlin Trammel and Michael May's old Dragonfly Ripple podcast that they hosted with their kids, it's the highest of fantasy as Michael and David delve into the animated Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies while Carlin and Annaliese play some Dungeons & Dragons. This episode also features the debut of Carlin and Dashiell's "Jetpack Tiger" segment with discussion about the Lilo & Stitch movies.

Michael, Evan, Pax and Rob gather again in the lounge to discuss novelty ties, Icelandic pop music, Rooster (some more), Punisher movies, and our favorite comfort meals and TV episodes.

Continuing our quest to determine the greatest spaceship of all time, Michael and Rob welcome Jeeg and John "Engineernerd" Vanover back to the show to talk about medium-sized ships. Be sure to check out Episode 426 where we determined the best Large Spaceship and stay tuned for future episodes in which we settle the best Small Spaceship and then take the Final Fours from each category to figure out the ultimate winner of any size.

Michael and Rob welcome Delaney Graham, Doug Frye, Evan Hanson, Jody Collins, Kay, Michael DiGiovanni, and Robert Zerbe for another round of the Cast List card game, where contestants have to come up with the names of actors based on a list of movies they've been in.

Our Predator series continues as Pax, Rob, and Michael talk about the 2025 animated anthology (but not really an anthology) feature, Predator: Killer of Killers. 

Michael and Jess continue their year-long exploration of Stephen King with the 1983 novella, Cycle of the Werewolf, illustrated by Bernie Wrightson. We talk about favorite characters, scariest moments, and of course the 1985 movie adaptation, Silver Bullet.

Michael and Rob welcome the amazing Chris Schweizer who's currently serializing his new swashbuckling fantasy comic Outlaw's Apprentice. We talk about the comic and its inspirations, but also our favorite swashbucklers in that time-honored tradition of putting them into brackets and voting on them.  We hope you enjoy the tournament, but please do also check out Outlaws's Apprentice, because you'll enjoy that even more. The After Lunch Irregulars (Jacob, Michael, Rob, and Pax) reconvene for a double episode, starting with an in-depth, spoiler-filled discussion of Guy Ritchie's Young Sherlock. Our dear friend and frequent podcast guest William Bruce West passed away on April 12. We miss him dearly. Part of the grieving process has been to talk about our friend and share memories of him, so the podcast community that Will was such an important part of has put together this tribute episode. There are personal reminiscences, but also many, many clips of Will's appearances on various shows through the years.  After Lunch is so pleased to present this episode, but we can't leave unrecognized that it was entirely produced - from initial concept to final edit - by Adam Pope, Will's regular podcasting partner these last few years. Thank you so much, Adam.    And Godspeed, Will. Rest in Peace
