Decades of Diligence — Stevenson Recaps American Angus Association Fiscal Standing

Decades of diligence from previous leadership have set up today's American Angus Association to be in strong financial standing. That's according to Darrell Stevenson, who just wrapped up his year as treasurer of the Association.“The American Angus Association, plus the four entities, worked well within our budget and we showed profits in each entity. Just to touch on that a little bit, we did see considerable growth this year with our investment portfolio,” Stevenson says, recapping the previous fiscal year.Stevenson was elected Association vice president at the 2025 Annual Convention of Delegates. He says member feedback, specifically from the recent membership survey, will continue to drive priorities in the upcoming year. “That feedback from the membership is what needs to drive us daily, weekly, anyway on setting forth those strategic plans … If there was anything that really came out of this, [it] was an appreciation for the true strength of our breed, and that is diversity. Diversity in cattle, diversity in opinions,” he says. “I am just grateful for the opportunity to be able to contribute on some of these decisions.”Visit AngusJournal.net for more and to subscribe.

A Breed Built for Tomorrow — Brinkley’s Perspective on Industry trends and What’s Next for Angus

Strong demand for quality and a diverse membership leads Jim Brinkley, newly elected president of the American Angus Association Board of Directors, to be optimistic about what's ahead.Brinkley says the Angus breed is well positioned to continue its market share in quality-driven markets.“As we all know, breeders have done a tremendous job of using the tools that the American Angus Association has provided them, and they've done a great job in increasing carcass quality,” he says.Looking to 2026, Brinkley says member feedback is helping guide the Association based on their needs shared in a recent membership survey.“If you don't know where you're going, you don't know when you've got there or where you're at, even,” he says. “Membership has requests, and we want to make sure we're aligned with what they need, the tools they need and their commercial people — customers — need.”Hear more from Brinkley on what he’s hearing in the industry and his thoughts on the upcoming year in the full interview. RELATED READINGNew Leadership Elected to the American Angus Association Board of DirectorsAmerican Angus Association Fiscal Year Results Show Continued Strength in Beef IndustryVisit AngusJournal.net for more and to subscribe.

Staying Relevant Takes Focus — Perry Predicts Strong Year Ahead

The Angus breed’s diversity is its strength and its challenge — how the breed supports producers across the United States is its measure of success.  Jonathan Perry, newly elected president and chairman of the American Angus Association Board of Directors says they will continue a focus on the strengths of the Angus cow and giving breeders tools to work in all diverse systems.  “That’s one of the things that we've really put a lot of emphasis on from new EPD (expected progeny difference) developments, new phenotype collections, things that we can do to try to bring more emphasis to longevity, stayability, the function of the cow,” Perry says. “No matter where we go end-target wise, we’ve got to continue to come back to home base of what got us there.” To hear why Perry is so optimistic about the future of the breed, listen to the full interview.RELATED READING:American Angus Association Concludes Fiscal Year, Shows Continued Leadership in Beef IndustryNew Leadership elected to the American Angus Association Board of DirectorsVisit AngusJournal.net for more and to subscribe.
