Ajay Discusses Movies

I talk movies both old and new with a rotation of guests on the podcast

  1. 93

    Q2 Anne Hathaway Movies

I discuss David Frankel's Devil Wears Prada 2 and David Lowery's Mother Mary. One is a fine film that banks on the references of its predecessor. The other is one of the most bold, ambitious films of the year. Go listen! https://www.instagran.com/ajaythakkar_. https://www.letterboxd.com/shyamaween. The bookshop will be updated next week. Haven't been able to read recently lol

  2. 92

    Lee Cronin's The Mummy

Lee Cronin's The Mummy borrows from several of its influences without any regard for its characters, plot, or story. Making it one of the worst films of the year. The bookshop has been updated with Shusaku Endo's The Sea and Poison. https://www.bookshop.org/shop/ajayandnathan

  3. 91

    Kristoffer Borgli's The Drama

the bookshop has been updated with Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian. Check our bookshop. https://www.bookshop.org/shop/ajayandnathan

  4. 90

    The 2026 Academy Awards

The 2026 Academy Awards was a near 4 hour long award show that had plenty of twist and turns. I wouldn't recommend re-watching it in its entirety. book recommendation: Salman Rushdie - Knife: Meditations After an Attempted Murder https://bookshop.org/shop/ajayandnathan

  5. 89

    Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride!

Despite a stellar cast and some memorable performances, Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! is a tediously dull film that misses on the horror and the humor, but will eventually develop a cult following in the coming years. Book Recommendation: Jay McInerney - Bright Lights, Big City https://bookshop.org/shop/ajayandnathan

  6. 88

John Patton Ford's How to Make a Killing

With just the right amount of campiness and adventure, How to Make a Killing is a fun dispensable film that will entertain you throughout its runtime. Book Recommendation: Nick Cave - The Death of Bunny Munro https://www.bookshop.org/shop/ajayandnathan

  7. 87

    Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights

An emotionless, soulless film despite a great cast, Wuthering Heights overstays its welcome with a daunting 2 hour 16 minute runtime. Check out the bookshop.org link where I recommend Vladimir Nabokov's Pale Fire. My favorite Nabokov book and one of my favorite books I've ever read.

  8. 86

    Sam Raimi's Send Help

The bookshop has been updated. This week's read is Fernanda Melchor's Paradais. Check it out https://www.bookshop.org/shop/ajayandnathan.

Ajay Discusses Bob Saget's Dirty Work (1998) with Dan Doherty

Bob Saget's Dirty Work stars Norm Macdonald as Mitch Weaver and Artie Lange as Sam McKenna. They are half-brothers as they start a revenge for hire business to pay off their father's surgery. It is, dare I say, one of the best comedies of the 90s that no one saw at the time but has since garnered a cult following. Nathan is out, so we got friend of the pod Dan Doherty to discuss the film. You can see Dan all over the New England area doing stand up and gambling his money away. Wow, he really took the Norm Macdonald inspiration a little too literally. Our bookstore has been updated with this week's picks. https://www.Bookshop.org/shop/ajayandnathan

  23. 71

Darren Aronofsky's Caught Stealing & Macom Blair's The Toxic Avenger
