EP50 Landon McNamara
Wazzup Haoles!!! It’s ALOHA FRIDAY AGAIN… We are in WEEK 2 of Playing Reggae Roots Tunes on ALIVE WE RIDE.For today’s Episode, the Surfer, Musician and Hawaiian legend… LANDON MCNAMARA will be calling in today to talk about his music and his life growing up on Oahu, charging huge waves and making beautiful music… LANDON is kicking off his 2026 US TOUR… this week.Landon McNamara was Born and raised on the North Shore of Oahu, Landon grew up inside the mythology of Hawaiian surfing. His father, Liam McNamara, is a storied Pipeline charger and longtime contest director; His uncle is Garrett McNamara – Garret put Nazaré on the world map with his Big Wave Charging off the Portuguese coast. At the age of thirteen… LANDON dropped into a bomb at the 2010 Volcom Pipe Pro The lineup and the crowds on the beach lost their minds as they witnessed this young Hellman sending it at PIPE! By sixteen, he was said to have paddled into the biggest wave ever ridden by a surfer his age at Cortes Bank… And if that wasn’t enough… In 2024… LANDON won the Rip Curl Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational At Waimea Bay. On that historical day He posted a perfect 50-point ride and became The first goofy-footer ever to win THE EDDIE. A victory celebrated in front of his own father - the event's contest director. Away from the water, LANDON has quietly built a second career as a singer-songwriter and guitarist. When you hear his silky-smooth voice and the reggae island vibes in his music… It’s hard not to feel the Bob Marley influence. In 2016 his debut… “A Dollar Short & A Minute Late,” hit No. 1 on the iTunes reggae chart (ahead, briefly, of Bob Marley's Legend) And landed No. 5 on Billboard's reggae chart. Since then, LANDON has been creating a steady stream of singles and collaborations, including That last track "Wild Trip" with Santa Barbara's DENM on Ineffable Records.

EP49 Jawaiian Roots
Wazzup Haoles!!! It’s ALOHA FRIDAY and I’m in Jah Mood for some…JAHWAIIAN Music. If you have never heard of JAHWAIIAN Music… It’s basically Hawaiian Reggae. The roots of the genre trace back to the arrival of reggae in Hawaii during the 1970s and early 1980s. Bob Marley's 1979 tour, which included a stop in Hawaii, helped spark local interest. Hawaiian listeners found a natural kinship with reggae — both cultures shared themes of island life, colonial history, indigenous pride, resistance, spirituality, and a laid-back tropical sensibility. The rhythms of reggae meshed well with the slack-key and steel guitar traditions already central to Hawaiian music.Vibes are Super High...Enjoy!

EP48 Spring Mix
When I make these playlists for my show, it all starts out with a little inspo from somewhere in the universe. And the idea to play that opening track “Down by the Sea” by MEN AT WORK came to me on Isacc Zoelers Instagram – where he shared a few images of his epic surf trip with Hans Hagen in Morrocco - last year. While "Down By The Sea" played int he background. So I built this setlist for today's show with travel and adventure in my mind.it was a fantastical sonic journey, and I am grateful to be able to share it with you guys...Happy Friday. Bless UP!

EP47 The Worm
When I first started this gig here at KXFM - one of my main objectives (besides playing good music) was to bring in OG Laguna Locals and talk story about life and the good ‘ol days grown up in Laguna. Basically, ALIVE WE RIDE is a great excuse to hang out with some of my old friendsMy idea for this show was to sit down with Garth Wyckoff aka "THE WORM" and tell stories from our High School Years in the 1980’s... For this Episode, I'm hanging with WORM at KXFM… We're talking story about life in the 1980’s, playing music from WORMS 80’s hit list and sharing stories from our high school years at LBHS. So buckle up and get ready to jump into our HOT TUB TIME MACHINE –We’re going back to the 1980’s, back to time where the rule of the man was a little bit more chill, and the kids could run free.Enjoy.

EP41 Music is Art
For this episode, I decided to mx it up. I wanted to feature a wide range of artists to express how diverse and amazing The Art of Music is. What sparked the idea, was the aftermath of Bad Bunny's Superbowl Half Time Show, where some of our Government officials went after Bad Bunny, threatening arrest and legal action against him - Simply becuase they didn't like his performance during the Halftime Show. For me, this as more than an attack on Bad Bunny, I saw it as an attack on ART itself. So for the intro to my show, I felt the need to express my opinion about that... No government should have the power to go after an Artist just because they don't like it. That idea is beyond ridiculous! There is no Bad Bunny tracks in this episode. This episode features a crazy cool mix of metal, post-punk, psychobilly and elctronic pop - like I said, it's sonic salad of multile genres.Enjoy.

EP40 No Words

EP39 Cabo 1982
For this episode, we are driving on the Baja Peninsula all the way down to Cabo San Lucas. It’s a trip I did in the summer of 1982 with my old Pal Mr. Paul White aka Whito - who joined me in te studio for this show.So we are taking you with us, in our dirty truck, with no AC and we are going to share some of our favorite stories from that trip… And as you listen to today’s Sonic Set list, I want you to imagine... it’s the Summer of 1982, you're 17 years old, there were no cell phones, no worldwide webs, and your parents have no idea where you are. All we have is a paper map of Baja with chicken scratch notes on it and half-baked plan to drive to Cabo…Viva Mexico!

EP38 First Chair
I’ve been spending a lot of time on my snowboard… In The Mystic Mountains – scoring Fresh Pow turns with my friends… It’s one of my favorite things in life to do… It’s a unique and addictive feeling that I call… “FIRST CHAIR” And if you have ever had the chance to be on the first chair lift after a fresh dump of snow – you know what I’m talking about… You’re on a mission - you get up early, you get after it… You beat the crowds, get in line, grab that first chair and score the best run of your life… It’s a connection with nature and gravity, in sucha way that it becomes a spiritual experience. Last week, I had one of the best snowboarding trips of my life… There were no chairlifts and there were no people – just me and my 1910 Homies - it was glorious. We had A snowcat drive us into the backcountry, drop us at the top of the mountain and send us down virgin snow runs - for 8 hours… It was that FIRST CHAIR feeling all day long!!! It was an epic mission and we scored! So, for today’s show, I’m taking you guys with me, to relive that mission… I’m taking you guys on a So sonic snowboard trip. And as you listen to the tracks…, I want you to imagine… driving in my car, it’s early morning and we’re listening to the mellow flow of Khruangbin, Mark Farina and the Bahama soul club… Driving through the Eastern Sierra, sipping tea and coffee, witnessing the majestic alpine glow of the morning sunrise. And so, begins our snowboarding adventure…

EP29 DJ Katsu Japan Punk
So… the way this show came together >> is a story on its own… I was planning on doing a Japan Punk Show for this episode - inspired by our Japan trip last week. So, I put together my set list of Japan Punk songs… Everything was set to go, then Lex here at the station reminded me that this is “KX DJ TAKEOVER WEEK” where the hosts hand over the mic to a guest DJ. So… I figured that Kathe (My wife) would be perfect to take over this episode and My Show ALIVE WE RIDE – right here on KXFM Radio 104.7 – especially since we just spent 15 days in Japan Together So, I asked Kathe if she wanted to do it – Thankfully she agreed. It's personally one of my all-time favorite Episodes...Enjoy.
