The Superman Wars From Fan And Historian William Bernhardt

Blending legal insight, historical research, and deeply human storytelling, Bernhardt delivers the definitive account of one of the most consequential and misunderstood creator-rights battles in American pop culture history. For generations, Superman has stood as a symbol of hope, morality, and idealism. Yet few readers know the true story behind his creation or the devastating cost paid by his original creators. In The Superman Wars, Bernhardt pulls back the curtain on the legal, cultural, and ethical conflicts that shaped the Man of Steel and forever changed the comics industry. “Most people think they know the backstory of Superman. They don’t,” says Bernhardt. Rather than retelling a well-known pop culture narrative, Bernhardt reframes Superman as history. He traces the character’s creation to two young men, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, whose work helped define an industry while leaving them financially and creatively vulnerable. Their experience became one of the earliest and most influential examples of creators losing control of their intellectual property to powerful corporations.Bernhardt’s background as a lawyer gives him a unique lens through which to examine the legal battles surrounding Superman. He translates complex copyright disputes into an accessible narrative, showing how early publishing contracts routinely stripped creators of long-term rights in exchange for modest, short-term compensation. These practices shaped not only the comics industry but the broader entertainment landscape. The Superman Wars places Superman within the social and historical context of the late 1930s, a time marked by economic hardship and global uncertainty. Bernhardt explains why Superman emerged at precisely the right moment in American history and why his emphasis on moral clarity and justice resonated so deeply with readers seeking reassurance and hope. The Superman Wars also speaks directly to modern creators. The book raises enduring questions about ownership, fairness, and the balance between art and commerce. Bernhardt argues that Siegel’s story remains deeply relevant in today’s publishing, film, and digital media industries. The book arrives amid renewed cultural attention on Superman, as the character continues to evolve for new generations across film, television, and publishing. Bernhardt contends that understanding Superman’s past is essential to shaping the future and to ensuring greater protections for creators moving forward. Blending meticulous research with compelling narrative, The Superman Wars stands as both a tribute to creative vision and a cautionary tale about power, legacy, and justiceBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Ringo A Fab Life From Music Historian Tom Doyle

Often overshadowed by his former bandmates, Ringo Starr has his own remarkable story that is no less compelling. Ringo: A Fab Life highlights a life so jaw-droppingly eventful that one is left wondering how he also had time to become one of the best musicians on the planet.Employing an episodic, mosaic format, critically acclaimed author Tom Doyle takes readers through the ride of a lifetime, from Starr's brushes with death as a child brought up in poverty, through to dizzying heights of fame and success with the Beatles and beyond. By examining pivotal moments, anecdotes, and cautionary tales, we see Starr soar as part of the biggest band in the world - and then try to cope with life outside of it with a film career, misadventures with friends, children's TV narration, furniture designing, and marriage to a Bond girl, before eventually finding peace and sobriety as one of the elder statesmen of rock.So much more than another Beatles biography, Ringo follows Starr's career far beyond the rose-tinted '60s, through the various addictions and career left turns in the '70s and '80s, before reaching the '90s, his legacy and reputation intact. The life of Richard Starkey is long overdue for a proper inspection, and this book - with exclusive new interviews conducted by Doyle with Starr himself, among others - provides a never-before-seen level of detail that will delight hardcore fans and curious readers alike.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Kate The Woman Who Will Be Queen From Christopher Andersen

The definitive portrait of Kate Middleton, the beloved and private Princess of Wales, tracing her stunning rise from working-class roots to queen-in-waiting, from #1 New York Times bestselling royal biographer Christopher Andersen.Kate is one of the most photographed, most talked about, most written about women in the world-heiress to Princess Diana's glamour and mystique, both wife of one future monarch and mother of another. But as the daughter of an airline attendant who grew up in public housing, Kate was not destined for this fate. She had to fight for it-and for the love of the future king.In this illuminating portrait, master biographer Christopher Andersen chronicles Kate's life, beginning with her humble upbringing; her off-again, on-again love story with William that catapulted her to global fame; and the 2011 "Wedding of the Century." Throughout their marriage, Kate has proven that she is more than just a prince's wife-she is a leader in humanitarian work, the devoted mother of three children in the media spotlight, an unparalleled fashion icon, and the universally adored face of Britain's monarchy.Yet her story is more complex than the public knows. With startling new details from his inside sources, Andersen reveals the full picture: including Kate's fight to repair William and Harry's rift, the disintegration of her relationship with Meghan, her work to refute charges of racism leveled at the monarchy, and her bravery in the face of cancer-her diagnosis and treatment, and the bizarre theories that swirled around her public disappearance.Kate! is an against-all-odds romance, a glittering fairy tale, and a heart-tugging family drama within the modern monarchy-but most of all, an inspiring saga of one woman's grace and grit in the face of adversity.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Tiger V Jack The Facts The Figures The Inside From Sports Writer Bob Harig

SI golf writer and author of Tiger & Phil, Bob Harig's Tiger v. Jack, an examination of the greatest argument in golf--who was better--exploring the records, rivalries, statistics, and context of their illustrious careers, including the intangibles that made them both icons. When Jack Nicklaus stunningly won the 1986 Masters for his 18th major championship victory, it was a reminder of the greatness of a golfer who had done so much. The major title - six years after his last - brought into focus again the dominance of his career. At the time, nobody was close to him in major wins, and the idea of anyone getting within miles of Nicklaus' major record, let alone match or overtake him, seemed, frankly, preposterous. And yet, there was a kid who was just 10 years old when Nicklaus won that last major. Tiger Woods was already thinking about Jack. He would put his accomplishments on a wall by age and try to beat those feats. Eventually, he put Nicklaus' 18 major titles in his sights, and for the better part of a decade was on pace to match or exceed the record, a remarkable thought itself. The fact that he came up short doesn't diminish the chase. In Tiger v. Jack, Bob Harig explores and compares the two legends in a lively examination of the greatest argument in golf--who was better, Jack Nicklaus or Tiger Woods--exploring the records, rivalries, statistics, and context of their illustrious careers, including the intangibles that made them both icons. They both had their moments of brilliance and dominance. What we've seen from Nicklaus and Woods is likely to never be duplicated, all the more reason to celebrate it.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

I think given the crazy times we're living in, this is a vibe that audiences are looking for. The film won Best Indie Film at the Los Angeles Film Awards late last year and just got a ridiculously rave review from Film Threat.Written and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Mike Southerly, the film was accomplishment in true guerilla filmmaker style without pulling a single permit despite filming at the Griffith Observatory, the Santa Monica Pier, and the Hollywood sign, among other iconic Los Angeles locales. It's a pretty great story how he was able to get this one into the end zone for under $200K. Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

You Only Think You Have The Evidence Broken Plea From Christopher Whitcomb

Sometime around 4:20 a.m. on a cold, foggy Sunday morning in mid-November of 2022, four University of Idaho students were brutally murdered at a house they shared in Moscow, Idaho. The case instantly captured national attention, including round-the-clock coverage by international media who descended on the small college town to report on its first murder in years. After a intensive investigation involving local, state and federal agencies, Bryan Kohberger was charged and eventually pled guilty to the crimes, avoiding a trial, and denying the community answers to important questions:. What were his motives?. Where are the weapons?. How did a lone assailant with no known connection to the victims enter the house in the middle of the night, viciously murder four people in less than ten minutes and escape, barely leaving a trace?. Why were two residents spared?. Why did a witness who saw the masked assailant wait eight hours before calling 911?In this can't-put-it-down page-turner, former FBI agent, journalist and bestselling author Christopher Whitcomb re-opens the case. Based on information provided by defense and prosecution sources, he scrutinizes tens of thousands of previously undisclosed files, including police reports, photographs, body-camera video, laboratory reports, autopsy findings, forensic and DNA analyses, unpublished interviews, surveillance logs and expert findings. In lieu of theories and conjecture, Whitcomb discovers shocking evidence-based revelations. Though Whitcomb does not challenge the veracity of Kohberger's plea, he does present troubling flaws in the case, including questions about how one man could possibly have committed these crimes alone.Looking at the three pillars of the prosecution's case, he discovers significant flaws in DNA analysis, including court documents that indicate police never actually matched Kohberger to the KA-BAR knife sheath found at the scene. Whitcomb also documents vexing contradictions in how police identified a white sedan, how investigators tied Kohberger's phone to the scene. He relies on the prosecution's own expert to show that large areas of the house were cleaned up and altered after the fact. With an engaging writing style that grabs readers by their lapels, Whitcomb raises important questions about how police handled crime scene analysis, evidence retention, alternate suspects, and contradictory witness statements. In the end, he clearly demonstrates that this case is not what we have been led to believe. "I wrote this book because I believe the American system of justice is the best in the world, but that doesn't mean it is perfect," Whitcomb said. "Cops err, technologies fail, and witnesses falter. And yes, guilt may be the domain of lawyers and courts, but if we as a society truly believe in its foundations, we should be willing to ask hard questions; look deeper. None of us knows what happened in Moscow that horrific night in November, but it is my hope that this book will be a first step toward understanding."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

A Sketch Of You Arrives You've Got 6 Days To Confess The Confession Artist From Christine Carbo

In her acclaimed series of mysteries set in and around Glacier National Park, Christine Carbo explored the perilous intersection between humans and the natural world. In her new standalone thriller, THE CONFESSION ARTIST (Thomas & Mercer; May 5, 2026; $16.99 Paperback), Carbo shifts her focus from the remote Montana wilderness to a vast and virtually inescapable landscape rife with threats from anonymous monsters: the digital world.     It began with a pencil sketch of a middle-aged, bearded man. Someone unknown had posted it on several untraceable accounts across social media. Below the photo, in yellow block text, all caps, was a command: CONFESS, OR DIE. YOU HAVE SIX DAYS. At first, few people paid attention. About a week later, a reporter who had been intrigued by the random posts wrote that a man resembling the sketch had been fatally shot just outside of Seattle. Police denied a connection, but the accounts generated a ton of new followers. A month later, a second sketch, paired with the same chilling demand, was posted. It went viral. This time, the sketch was of a woman. By the end of that week, a female mirroring the drawing was found murdered in Santa Monica, California. When the third sketch—another male—dropped, it got global attention. Law enforcement agencies across the US, especially in the West, went on high alert. But after six days passed, no one turned up dead. Had the man fessed up and been spared?        A first-year PI in the Flathead Valley, Crosbie Mitchell yearns for something more exciting than tracking down cheating spouses. Still, she has little interest in all the buzz surrounding the killer dubbed “The Confession Artist.” Boredom aside, she doesn’t regret her decision to quit the force. Being the lone woman cop in her precinct was tough even before her coworkers saw her as toxic for reporting sexual harassment. And after Jess, her sister and only family, was raped, she needed to be there for her. The real reason, however, is something Crosbie can barely think about without feeling… slimy, or worse. Yes, Crosbie has skeletons shoved deep in her closet. Yet, she’s knocked for a loop when a fourth sketch goes viral and Jess gasps in horror: “It’s you.” Brushing it off, Crosbie insists:  “I’m a nobody from Montana.” Then, her ex-boyfriend calls with a significant detail: the woman in the sketch is wearing the same dangling earrings, in the shape of a feather with a round stone in the center, as the handcrafted pair he gave her. You have six days to confess or die. Crosbie’s heart pounds at the thought. What should she confess first?Keeping the tension building, THE CONFESSION ARTIST follows Crosbie as she digs into the identity of the online killer and evades a stalker. Before the sketch made her a public figure of wild speculation, Crosbie had been hired to investigate the suspicious death of a Native American journalist about to expose the shady and environmentally destructive practices of a local oil and natural gas company. Could Crosbie be the target of a copycat vendetta launched by Ridgefield’s filthy rich and unscrupulous owner? Or maybe that charming reporter who popped up out of nowhere to interview her is really a serial killer? Oh, and Crosbie can’t shake the hunch that both her ex-boyfriend and her sister know more than they’re telling her.           Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

The Wreck Of The Mentor Changed Everything In 1832 From Eric Jay Dolin

On a storm-lashed night in May 1832, the American whaleship Mentor struck a reef near the Palau Islands, splintering its crew and setting off a chain of events that would unfold over years and across multiple Pacific islands. As Dolin vividly reconstructs, the wreck shattered not only the ship, but the rigid hierarchies of life at sea: authority collapsed, loyalties fractured, and survival demanded impossible choices. Some men fled into the darkness. Others clung to the wreckage, unsure whether rescue or death awaited them.Drawing on extensive archival research, sailors’ journals, Indigenous accounts, and oral histories, The Wreck of the Mentor becomes far more than a shipwreck tale. It is a sweeping narrative of cross-cultural encounter, moral ambiguity, and the long aftershocks of first contact reverberations that ultimately reached back to the United States through diplomatic crises, violence, and debates over justice and responsibility.Eric Jay Dolin is the author of seventeen acclaimed books on nautical and maritime history, including Leviathan, Black Flags, Blue Waters, Rebels at Sea, and A Furious Sky. His work has won many of the field’s top honors, including the John Lyman Award for U.S. Maritime History and the Samuel Eliot Morison Book Award for Naval Literature, and has been named a “must read” by the Massachusetts Center for the Book. Dolin lives in Marblehead, Massachusetts, and is known for bringing complex maritime history to life with narrative drive, clarity, and dramatic tension.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Now The Attention Is On Her True Crime A Memoir From Author Patricia Cornwell

#1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Cornwell finally tells the story that rivals all of the works that precede it: her own Patricia Cornwell is best known for her international bestselling thriller series about forensic pathologist Dr. Kay Scarpetta, now an Amazon Prime series adaptation starring Nicole Kidman as Kay Scarpetta and Jamie Lee Curtis as her sister, Dorothy. Every story comes from somewhere, and Scarpetta’s began when Patricia Cornwell embedded herself in a morgue. In this achingly honest memoir, Cornwell excavates her own life, detailing her traumatic childhood being raised by neglectful parents, her father abandoning the young family on Christmas day, her mother being institutionalized twice, an abusive foster family, and developing a parental relationship with evangelist Billy Graham’s wife Ruth. Cornwell depicts a harrowing hospitalization and near-death car accident. She unflinchingly shares overcoming obstacles that later gave her the ambition to become an award-winning police reporter. From there it was research in a medical examiner’s office that would turn into a full-time job. She would become a forensic expert and worldwide publishing phenomenon.  Cornwell leaves no stone unturned in this deeply candid account of her life, offering inspiring insight into what made her into the international sensation she is today.  Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

27 Grievances Against King George Tyrants And Rogues From Robert G Parkinson

Most Americans think of the Declaration through its famous preamble “all men are created equal,” “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” But those lines were not the main event for the people who wrote the document. What mattered most to the patriots in 1776 were the 27 grievances against King George III that make up the bulk of the Declaration and explain why the colonies believed independence had become unavoidable. In Tyrants and Rogues, Parkinson brings those grievances to life by reconstructing the real events, conflicts, and personalities behind them from royal governors and British officials to the dramatic confrontations that pushed the colonies toward rebellion. The result is a vivid new account of the Revolutionary era that reveals the founders not just as philosophers but as political actors responding to specific crises and decisions by identifiable figures in the British government. By revisiting the grievances themselves, Parkinson answers questions that are often overlooked: Why did the colonies declare independence when they did? What were their nonnegotiable demands? And which individuals and events convinced them that reconciliation with Britain was impossible? The stories behind those charges explain the political tensions, fears, and conflicts of the Revolutionary moment and show how the issues that alarmed colonists in 1776, including questions about executive power, civil authority, and the rule of law, still resonate today.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Happiness Included Jan Brady And Beyond Talking Art And More With Eve Plumb

It's finally time for Jan, Jan, Jan! As Jan Brady, America's most memorable middle child on the beloved TV sitcom, The Brady Bunch, Eve Plumb has been an enduring icon of American pop culture for over 60 years. Now in an engaging, intimate memoir, she shares the behind-the-scenes story of her colorful and impressively versatile Hollywood career and revelatory recollections of her off-camera life along the way-complete with many photos from her private archives.Recognized world-wide as Jan Brady, the wonderfully misunderstood middle sister on television's The Brady Bunch, actress Eve Plumb has embraced the association that seemed destined at age 10 when she was cast on The Brady Bunch. The iconic 1970s TV series has been in perpetual reruns for five decades and is well known by three generations of children and adults. Her engaging memoir reveals that her stint on The Brady Bunch was only the beginning of her TV career, a young lady with the confidence and spunk that her on-screen character often humorously lacked.Eve Plumb's six decades as a TV and stage actress reads like a veritable history of the golden age of TV. Her long career began when a talent agent in her Los Angeles neighborhood suggested that the six year old audition for a national TV commercial. She was cast and many commercials followed (including Barbie commercials). Within a year, Eve was being cast in guest star roles, often multiple episodes, in the top TV series of the 60s and 70s: Gunsmoke, Lassie, Family Affair, Mannix, The Big Valley, It Takes a Thief, The Virginia & Here's Lucy.Following five seasons of ABCs anchor Friday night show, The Brady Bunch, and recording albums and touring nationally with The Brady Kids singing group, Eve was cast as the lead role in Dawn, Portrait of a Teenage Runaway, at age 17. A dramatic departure from the sweet Brady family, the NBC hit TV movie came with a "parental discretion" warning in the opening titles. The movie's success sparked the highly-rated sequel with Eve Plumb: Alexander: The Other Side of Dawn.Continuous guest star roles filled her young adult life as an actress on highly rated TV shows, including The Facts of Life, One Day at a Time, Fantasy Island, Love Boat, Wonder Woman, and a multi-episode sitcom called The Brady Brides, featuring Eve as a young newlywed, along with Maureen McCormick from the original series.Eve brought her acting experience to the New York stage. Tony-winning Broadway Producer Ken Davenport cast Eve in the lead role for the Times Square debut of Miss Abigail's Guide to Dating, Mating, and Marriage, with a six month run. She also appeared on stage in NY and regionally in "Love, Loss and What I Wore."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.
