    Auntie & The Chicken

Another Joke by Baby Flo – Auntie and the ChickenGood evening, my Baby Flo story lovers. This is a new story called “Aunty and the chicken.”Now as a little girl, my auntie had this huge backyard and she would grow all these green vegetables and would have all these cute little chickens and little hens playing around in the backyard, just having a good time. Oftentimes my brother and I would go out and we would play with them. But this one particular day, I remember my auntie saying, come on out here, gal; as Auntie would often refer to me. Auntie would sit in the backyard on this big stoop. Now remember she weighed about 400 pounds and she couldn't move very fast, but she would sit there on that stoop that had a big huge chopping block, I remember her sitting there and turning her head and moving…and of all of a sudden she would catch one, and when I say catch one, I mean she would actually catch a chicken. She would hold it by the neck, and she would wring it neck with those big lumberjack hands, put the chicken on the chopping block and chopped the head off.Now remember in the same “Yellow Kitchen”  (where many Baby Flo stories happened) Auntie would go up those steps and there would be this big, huge pot of boiling water and this black cast iron skillet full oil. Auntie would put the chicken in the pot and boil it.I learned later she was feathering the chicken because she had to pluck the feathers. Then she would clean the chicken, she season the chicken, she then fried the chicken. The brown eggs she would bring in were all brown and had mud and stuff on them.Well, maybe not mud, but she would clean whatever that was and make these homemade cakes from the brown eggs. The cakes were pretty good. My brother and always got the fried drumsticks…to this day I do not like 🍗 So the moral of this story is, no matter what cows, chickens or whatever, you might have in your backyard or farm you never know if that chicken is going to be your meal for dinner on your family's table, so don't get too close😊Another story by Baby Flo. Not all a “Ha Ha Ha” moment! Stay tune for more truths and laughs.

Baby Flo - To Sir, With Love

On lighter note, here’s another Baby Flo memory. This one’s called “To Sir, With Love.”So me and my same bestie—Baby S…we were a little older now, maybe 10 or 11.Back then, we’d hop on the bus and head over to Huntington Park, ’cause that’s where the movie theater was.In those days, you could watch a movie over… and over… and over again. No extra charge. Just sit there as long as you want!So it was me, baby S, and this boy I had the biggest crush on—Skipper who was 13.  Whew, I thought I was in love! 😍Sandra was like, “Girl, he’s just one of the homies.” But I didn’t care.We went to see “To Sir, With Love” and stayed all day. We were obsessed. Before we knew it…It was almost midnight! And baby, when we walked out that theater, guess who was waitin’?Our mamas…his parents… and the POLICE! 😳Let me tell you somethin’—We were put on the longest punishment EVER. Felt like we were grounded for a whole year!By the time I got off punishment, I didn’t know what happened to Skipper. All I know is, he started hangin’ out with the neighborhood player—Mr. L.J.And just like that, my crush? GONE.Whew… lesson learned.Wasn’t even worth it. Ha Ha Ha!🤣Another story by Baby Flo. Not all a “Ha Ha Ha” moment! Stay tune for more truths and laughs.

    The Swing and the Fire

Title: The Swing Set and the FireWelcome to another story by Baby Flo.Now… this story? It’s not a joke. It’s not funny. It’s one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen. But it really happened…to me! I was just five years old, playing outside on Anzac Avenue with one of my best friends and our neighbor across the street — my best friend,  we’ll call her Baby S.We were in the backyard, swinging on the swing set.I’ll never forget that warm day…Right across the street was the Black Panther house. And next door?A white family had just moved into the neighborhood. While we were playing,Baby S’s friend went home for a minute. She came back shortly after…And then— the grass under Baby S’s swing was on fire. 🔥I remember it like it was yesterday.I was five…watching the flames catch onto my friend’s body. Her skin was on fire. Her sister grabbed the garden hoseand tried to put the fire out.I watched, frozen,as her skin started peeling off…I looked through the back screen door, and I saw my friend—burned.Hurt.Screaming.And that little girl who went home…The one who came back…She ran back to her house and never came back. Her family moved away not long after. No goodbye. No apology.Just gone. This happened in Watts, but it could and can happen any where!!I spent months going to the hospital with Baby S.I didn’t know what it was back then, but now I do—Skin grafts. She had to have them. This story…It doesn’t end with a laugh. There’s no “Ha ha ha.”Just truth.Because even as a child—that little girl had hate in her heart.Where did it come from?Somebody taught her that. That’s why I say:Be careful what you teach your kids.Watch what you say around them.Because that hate?It can grow.So in these times we’re living in…Take heed.Teach love.Protect innocence. From Baby Flo.Another story by Baby Flo. Big Mouth - Baby Flo

Big mouth Baby FloI remember my brother and I went to a tall building downtown with my Auntie. She said be good and don’t say nothing. We were sitting in our seats at this large desk and this lady with golden hair was asking my auntie questions. My auntie was asking for money for us. The lady said when was the last time my auntie saw my mommy. My auntie said “it’s  been some time.”I was looking out the window and I said “There is mommy down there!!” My Auntie looked at me with a mean mean look! She said to the  lady, “we have to go now.” We got in the elevator, in the car with mommy and I will never forget what my Auntie and mommy said, “You Got A Big Month and when we get home I am going to show you what we do to a Big Mouth!”I got home mommy left to go somewhere and Auntie couldn’t move quickly because of her weight. I remember her saying to my cousin “ bring that Gal over here so I can make her stick her tongue out!! Now even as a child “I say how do you make a child stick their tongue out knowing it going to get spank???”My auntie reached for a fly swatter and said, stick your tongue out!!! All I know is I kept my mouth shut whenever I was with her from that day forward! Moral of this story, don’t tell a lie; especially around kids. You never know what truth may come out of their mouths. Ha Ha Ha!!!Another story by Baby Flo. Not all a “Ha Ha Ha” moment! Stay tune for more truths and laughs.

    The Four Uncles

Baby Flo – The UnclesBack in the early 1960s, there were four uncles: Uncle Buddy, Uncle Freddy, Uncle Artis, and Uncle Robert. They were ridin' along 103rd Street in a blue Ford… movin’ real slow, like 5 or 10 miles an hour slow. They had been partyin', drinkin’ some of that Gordon gin!Two uncles in the front seat, two in the back. All of a sudden, one uncle looked around and said, “Wait — where’s Uncle Robert?”Another uncle, slow and slurrin’, pointed back and said, “Yonder he is — back there in the middle of the road.”Sure enough — he had rolled clean out the car and nobody noticed! He just got up, brushed off, and waved like nothin’ happened.Another joke by Baby Flo. 🤣 Ha Ha Ha.Another story by Baby Flo. The Sizzling Pressing Comb

Baby Flo – The Sizzling Hot Pressing CombThis one called... “The Sizzlin’ Hot Pressin’ Comb!” 😳🔥Back in the day when I was little, my auntie used to press our hair in the kitchen.I still remember that yellow kitchen…with that BIG ol’ white stove sittin’ right by the back porch! 😅She’d sit you down between her big ol’ thighs, holdin’ you still and sayin’,“Be still, gal! BE STILL!”Then she’d grab that hot pressin’ comb…with the cotton cloth wrapped around the back of it! 😳She’d dip her fingers in that white Bergamot grease —rub it on your scalp from the root to the end —then take that hot comb and press that hair straight!*Pssshhhh... pssshhh!*You could hear it sizzlin’!Ooooh weee! She upgraded to Ultra Sheen later —but it ain’t never beat that white Bergamot jar! 💆🏽‍♀️When she was done, she’d say:“Now you good to go, gal!”But I was tender-headed!That’s what they called it when you holler and cry...But NOT between them thighs! 😳Uh uh! No screamin’ or hollerin’ there! And THAT was no joke! 🤣Ha Ha Ha!Another story by Baby Flo. Not all a “Ha Ha Ha” moment! Stay tune for more truths and laughs.
