Every week, a bunch of pretentious wise guys sit around and review the latest anime. Sometimes it all ends up making sense, but sometimes it doesn't. These...are their stories.

IMPORTANT INFO: RSS Feed Changes
So, RSS feed mergers won't work like I thought they would. Since a merger of two feeds eliminates/overwrites all the tags iTunes needs in order to publish a podcast, I won't be able to use that method. The good news: since I give iTunes the Feedburner URL (instead of the source RSS URL), once I...

Episode 322 - Finally Free from Our Orphan Prison
Not only does this episode of Bakacast mark the end of the Winter 2017 season, but it also marks the end of me hosting these things on Libsyn. Starting at the next episode, we'll be part of the Audio Entropy podcast network. I will, however, still be posting shownotes like this on Project Haruhi…

Episode 321 - Tanya's Consequence-Free Philosophy
On this episode, we celebrate Rakugo and Maid Dragon's finales, give Ben and Larry a chance to discuss what they thought about March Comes In Like A Lion, and talk about a change coming to Bakacast in the near future. Please email listener questions to bakacast[at]projectharuhi.net or leave them…

Episode 320 - And Now for a Different Kind of Dragon
Why yes, I've recently spent an entire day editing several podcasts. Is it that obvious? Time Index 01:38 - Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans 47 10:23 - Youjo Senki 9 18:10 - Little Witch Academia 10 26:53 - Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu S2 10 31:46 - Miss Kobayashi's Maid Dragon 10 42:46 - Dragon...

Episode 319 - Infinitely Boring Orphans
This episode is somehow just under 40 minutes long. No, I have no idea how we managed that either. Time Index 01:41 - Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans 46 07:43 - Little Witch Academia 9 11:19 - Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu S2 9 18:03 - Miss Kobayashi's Maid Dragon 9 25:08 - Youjo Senki 8

Episode 318 - Akko Must Never Be Cool
On this shockingly short episode of Bakacast: Gundam tires us out, Little Witch gives us the Sucy episode we've been waiting for, Maid Dragon gets surprisingly emotional, and Youjo Senki continues to be not quite as good as we had hoped. Time Index 01:27 - Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans 45 14:04 -...
-
Episode 317 - Meloncide
On this episode of Bakacast, Maid Dragon has its first dud segment, we start to suspect Iron-Blooded Orphans isn't as critical of pedophilia as it should be, and Youjo Senki shows signs of being just another military anime. Time Index 01:29 - Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans 43-44 20:21 - Little…

Episode 316 - Mad About Succubi
No, I didn't make a typo. I intentionally skipped #315, because I have [i]some[/i] of the audio, but Megan's track did not save properly. I might be able to salvage some of it to release at a later date, but until then I just wanted to edit and release the episodes I didn't have to do any editing...
-
Episode 314 - A True Hero Arrives
With this episode of Bakacast out the door, I have finally caught up to my recording backlog and can start working on editing some JoJo again. Hooray! This week, some shows improve, others continue to reveal their shortcomings, and some surpass expectations. Also, ACCA leads to the most heated...
-
Episode 313 - My Eyes Are Dying
Now that the winter season has begun in earnest, we dig into what it has to offer us. Which is...a mixed bag, honestly. Some good, some dull, some bad. And then there's Hand Shakers, a show that must be watched to truly understand how thoroughly and magnificently terrible it is. I do my best to...

Episode 312 - The Animusphere
On this episode of Bakacast, we get through the weird liminal space between the fall and winter seasons by reviewing some OVAs: Fate/Grand Order, Under the Dog, and Garo: Divine Flame. We also have Megan back with us! Please email listener questions to bakacast[at]projectharuhi.net or leave them…

Episode 311 - A Beautiful Mess
We finish off the last of the fall season shows and look back on this year of anime by handing out some awards to our favorite stuff. In addition to the typical Anime of the Year award, we had some extra categories, too: Best Male and Female Characters, Best Soundtrack (with Best OP/ED added at…

Episode 310 - I'm Just Glad They're Alive
As some of our fall shows reach their conclusions, we reflect on what they did right, what they did wrong, and what a possible continuation might mean for them. Also, Ben takes this opportunity to talk about some shows he's been watching that we haven't been covering on the podcast. Time Index...

Episode 306 - Where The Gundams At?
Due to scheduling difficulties and life interfering, we were forced to skip a few weeks of recording. So of course the logical thing to do was to recap, like, four episodes of each series we're watching, because we're a group of people who make great life choices. Long story short: Drifters loses...
-
Episode 305 - The Red-Head Corollary
So we're back with normal episodes of Bakacast. Yes, I know, JoJo's Bizarre Rewatch isn't finished yet. Scheduling issues made that basically impossible to do before the fall season started; and there's such good shows airing right now that it would be a shame to delay talking about them until…

JoJo's Bizarre Rewatch 07 - Cows: The Ultimate Fetish [EXPLICIT]
In addition to episodes 13 & 14 of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, we also cover: Nazis by way of Hogan's Heroes, the greatest spaghetti duel, mind control via makeouts, the injustice of Queen not being referenced way earlier than they actually are, the only kink none of us like, living with only half...
-
JoJo's Bizarre Rewatch 06 - Let's Be Femme [EXPLICIT]
On this episode of JJBR, we only have half an episode to give you due to Luke's audio getting corrupted. In a weird way, though, we were lucky Luke had to leave after the first half; otherwise I wouldn't have anything to show for the recording. With what I could salvage, we talk about such things...

Bakacast Briefs - Summer 2016 Part 2
Ben and Larry return with me to catch up with the shows airing this summer. Having weeded out some of the stuff we weren't interested in, we largely focus on 91, Arslan, Mob Psycho 100, and JoJo.
-
JoJo's Bizarre Rewatch 05 - JoJo Punches Racism [EXPLICIT]
Kevin comes back on this episode of JJBR, where we watch the final episode of Phantom Blood and the first episode of Battle Tendency. Other topics include: polyamory, coffin physics, no one appreciating Dustin's musical jokes, surprisingly topical commentary on American police, Joseph is a far…

Bakacast Briefs - Summer 2016 Part 1
Yeah, that's right, I'm bringing the "Bakacast Briefs" branding back after its long hiatus. Even though our main show for this season is the JoJo Rewatch, I figured it'd be nice to get Larry and Ben on every few weeks to talk about the current shows. Since the structure if freeform and editing is...
-
JoJo's Bizarre Rewatch 04 - Time Is Fart [EXPLICIT]
This week on JJBR, we cover episodes 7 & 8, where main characters die, anvils are thrown, and Jonathon's conflict with Dio finally comes to an end. Other topics of discussion include: knife-vampire Gabe Newell, really specific prophecies, surviving long after your body is gone, Mad Max fashion...

JoJo's Bizarre Rewatch 03 - This Show is Very Gay [EXPLICIT]
On this episode of JJBR, we admire Speedwagon's manly passion that can warm even the coldest of limbs, question Araki's grasp of European history, try to puzzle out the show's internal geography, congratulate Araki on his clever wordplay, and question Zeppeli's ability to think of alternate...

JoJo's Bizarre Rewatch 02 - FroJo's Bizarre Hopventure [EXPLICIT]
On this episode of JJBR, we talk about how Erina won the hunk lottery, strange Italian men who sprinkle salt and/or pepper on their sandwiches, frogs with Ripple power, new and surprising uses for horses, and deadly crocodile clips. Please note that the [EXPLICIT] tag is not a joke. Assume every...

JoJo's Bizarre Rewatch 01 - The Most Gentlemanly of Gentlemen [EXPLICIT]
Welcome to the first episode of JoJo's Bizarre Rewatch, hosted by myself and Megan! The JJBA newbies joining us on this adventure are Luke (who Bakacast listeners should already be familiar with), Jules (who I've already podcasted with on some episodes of Teenagers With Attitude), and Kevin (who…

Episode 304 - All Might Is My Husbando
On this episode of Bakacast, we finish off the spring stragglers and marvel at the idea that Flying Witch was not only the best show of the season but also basically perfect. We also do a quick roundup of the shows we haven't been reviewing weekly, such as Luluco, Macross Delta and Kuromukuro.…

Episode 303 - Fast and the Furious with Tanks
On this episode of Bakacast, we bid farewell to Bakuon. You were an okay show. Gundam Unicorn and Flying Witch didn't air the week we recorded, so JoJo's, Hero Academy, and (unfortunately) Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress are the only shows we reviewed. Thankfully, we had the Girls Und Panzer movie...
-
Episode 302 - Whirlwind Tour of War Crimes
Bakuon continues to exist as a show that we neither hate nor love, Hero Academy continues to be totally rad, Flying Witch continues to be the best show this season, and Gundam Unicorn continues to be filled with angst. Time Index 01:39 - Bakuon 11 09:52 - Hero Academy 11 14:51 - Flying Witch 10...

Episode 301 - Fangs for the Memories
On this episode of Bakacast, I debut our new opening song composed by Mitchell Dill. It's not the final version, but I figured it'd be fun to switch things up post-episode-300. Also, I reveal my plans for what the next season will bring. Basically, I'll be taking a brief hiatus from the normal...
-
Episode 300 - The Budweiser of Feminism
We finally made it to 300 episodes. I dread the day when we get to 500, mostly because I'm not sure what Aaron will do to try and top us watching Ice. I fear for my life. We do our normal review segments on this episode, too, of course; but let's be honest, you're all here for the anime that...
-
Episode 299 - It's Called SUPER LOVERS
It took a while, but I promised you that Luke would review SUPER LOVERS; and by golly did I get him to review SUPER LOVERS. He definitely didn't like it, but probably not for the reasons you might immediately suspect. After that, we take an Ice-inspired journey into Hulu's anime selection, have...

Episode 298 - Witch-Queen Chinatsu
Finally, my backlog is clear. I have cleansed it with the holy fire of Audacity. Now my dark work can finally begin... And we review some anime, I guess. I didn't realize how much I missed Lelouch until I saw him in Akito the Exile. Time Index 01:20 - Bakuon 8 07:56 - Hero Academy 7 13:56…

Episode 297 - Technically They're Vampires
On this episode of Bakacast, we discuss Hero Academy's cardboard cut-out villain and how Uraraka is better than everyone else; Kabaneri's strange use of bit characters; and how I might be a cat racist. Also, thank you to Kenneth Alexander for the album art! Time Index 03:12 - Bakuon 6 13:17…

Episode 296 - Gratuitous Car Wash
On this episode of Bakacast, Bakuon 4 and 5 give us the starkest contrast between two consecutive episodes that we've ever seen. Meanwhile, Gundam Thunderbolt remains consistently amazing and consistently sad. Time Index 01:53 - Bakuon 5 10:13 - Flying Witch 4 15:11 - Gundam Unicorn RE:0096 5…

Episode 295 - Family Bonding Through Black Magic
On this episode of Bakacast, we run the full emotional gauntlet. Bakuon takes us to the highest of highs only for Macross Delta to drop us to the lowest of lows. On the plus side, Macross can't hurt us ever again, as we've decided to switch to Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. Unfortunately, Project...
-
Episode 294 - Everyone is Terrible
Why did this episode take so long to come out? Because I was buying a car a decade younger than my old one, which was slowly becoming a dying husk. This one actually has working AC, so I won't melt into a puddle on my way to work anymore. Time Index 01:29 - Bakuon 3 06:00 - Flying Witch 2 11:29 -...
-
Episode 293 - The Gang's All Here
Yeah, that's right. Megan is finally back on the podcast, which means I'm going to be blushing 1000% more often. It also means that--thanks to the giant list of shows we watched--this particular episode is back to the 2-hour length of yesteryear. If this fills you with terror and dread, don't...
-
Episode 292 - Please Don't Hurt Turtles
With winter finally gone, JoJo's season has finally arrived, bringing with it another JoJo's. On this podcast, we watch JoJo's and talk about JoJo's. There are some other anime that aired, I guess, but they don't really matter. Time Index 00:56 - Ace Attorney 1 09:29 - Bakuon 1 14:13 - Hero…

Episode 291 - Everything Is Sad Now
On this final episode of the 2016 Winter season, we have a sudden upgrade in audio quality! If you're wondering what brought this on, the answer is, "The much easier but lower quality method we were using previously no longer reliably works with Skype." So now everyone is individually recording...
-
Episode 290 - Now You're Thinking With Portals
We're getting closer to the end of the season, which means that the shows we're watching are starting to get more overly dramatic. For Dimension W, this means more murder. For Rakugo, this means more crying. And for Baku Dake, this means "keikaku doori" plot developments. Time Index 01:03 -...

Episode 289 - An Actually Good Princess
I have a big backlog of podcasts to work through, and Bakacast is at the top of that list. So expect another episode to come out shortly. I am going to be productive even if it kills me (or prevents me from playing video games, which is almost like death). Oh yeah, on this episode we talk about...

Episode 288 - Double Bluff
Normally this is where I'd try to put something even halfway informative about what happens in this recording, but I'm about to go to work and have two more of these to edit and post anyway; so I'm guessing y'all won't mind if just don't bother. Time Index 01:34 - Dimension W 9 05:45 - Boku Dake…

Episode 287 - Iron-Blooded Vampires
On this episode of Bakacast, we review a bunch of shows that are fine, I guess, but YO, THAT KIZUMONOGATARI MOVIE IS PRETTY LEGIT, YOU GUYS! The short version is that I loved it, but if you want the long version, I decided to record a separate part of this podcast later in the evening so Megan...
-
Episode 286 - Women in 4th-Dimensional Refrigerators
On this episode of Bakacast, everyone gets the time we're supposed to be recording correctly. Aaron continues his descent into the abyss that is the ongoing Bleach manga, Dimension W tries to tug at our heartstrings, Baku Dake thinks outside the box, and Rakugo gets really depressing. Also, look...

Episode 285 - Shortest Episode Ever
On this episode of Bakacast, Ben is not with us because he misread Tuesday as Thursday, so Larry, Aaron and I recorded without him. Which mostly means that I talked a lot and sometimes remembered that Larry had opinions on things, too. Time Index 01:18 - Durarara 30 04:28 - Dimension W 6 08:42 -...

Episode 284 - The Captain Kirk Corollary
On this episode of Bakacast, Celty's shadow horse steals our hearts, I make wild guesses about the mysteries in Boku Dake, Yamato sees the faces of their enemies, and we let you know what we think of what's been going on in other shows like Garo and Iron-Blooded Orphans. Time Index 01:39…

Episode 283 - Durarara's Mystic Sword Emporium
On this episode of Bakacast, I finally get off my ass and catch up on my recording backlog for once in my life. As much as I love you, listeners, I didn't do it for you. I did it for myself. To prove I could be something other than terrible for a change. Anyway, I guess we reviewed that Rakugo…

On this episode of Bakacast, an embarrassing episode of Active Raid causes us to give it the boot, I try to puzzle my way through the character relationships in Shirayuki-hime, and my fears of the new Macross series are pretty much confirmed. Time Index 02:04 - Macross Delta 0 11:34 - Prince of...
