In this episode of Behind the Bark, Kathy Baird shares what it took to change what was possible at a small rural animal shelter in western Kentucky.When Kathy started at Union County Animal Control, the shelter had eight indoor runs and a euthanasia rate around 98%. One dog from those early days still stays with her. Kathy knew she could have done more, and she made herself a promise: she was going to do this differently.What followed was not one dramatic turnaround. It was years of learning, building relationships, finding rescue partners, creating more options for dogs, and working with a community to keep those options open.Today, Kathy keeps the award recognizing how far the shelter has come tucked away in a drawer.
