How can we protect the right of Israel to exist as a nation, while still respecting the right of Palestinians to live in peace in what is also their homeland?

11 Sekai Report: Those Contentious Republicans
Sekai Report Home____Facebook___Linkkedin I was interested in the 2022 election because what I perceived as the significance of Republicans taking the House. But I was not prepared for the level of contention among Republicans that paralyze them. And I was not prepared for the way God would raise up someone nobody knew to be a unifying force, and demonstrate that in the end, it is God who chooses

08 Sekai Report: Why Queen Elizabeth Matters
My life intersected with the British Empire at three specific places. In this podcast I try to explain the significance, not only of the monarchy, but more specifically, of the life of a very noble person who gave herself to serve the people. We should never whitewash the injustices that came with colonialism. But there were good things to, and it does not do justice to history to ignore them. Sekai Report Home____Facebook

06 Sekai Report: Law of Unintended Consequences / Biden on Taiwan, Media on Biden
oday’s podcast starts with a discussion of the Law of Unintended Consequences. There is a pithy statement from the Old Testament that exemplifies this principle: “For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind.” (Hosea 8:7) We also discussed reaction to Biden’s statement about Taiwan (PRC vs. ROC), which I think was a bit sensationalized. Perhaps it wasn’t the best, but it also wasn’t that bad, and I agree with Gingrich that it should not have been walked back. Coincidentally, today is the anniversary of Tiananmen, which is not mentioned at all on the mainland, but used to be commemorated in Hong Kong. I do not talk about that event in this podcast, because I have addressed it elsewhere. Facebook Ma Ying-jeou Sekai Report Home

05 Sekai Report: Guns DO kill people / Twitter back and forth between Beth Moore and Allie Beth Stuckey
More and more we are coming to realize that something must be done about the ease with which young people can access semi-automatic weapons. It is pure insanity to allow 17 and 18 year old young people to carry around a semi-automatic weapon without any supervision. Americans are being forced into the realization that guns DO kill people. 04 Sekai Report: Bezos on Biden, Inflation, Ukraine, Baby Formula
What is the cause of inflation? Why can't the government just print more money if they want to spend more? What can Napoleon's invasion of Russia in 1812 teach us about the consequences of an ill-fated conflict? The way I have heard it expressed in China is, "History has never been kind to an emperor who wages war without an honest justification." The map below shows how much territory Napoleon conquered, but he was not satisfied. Facebook Post Elon's Econ Sekai Report Home

American Civil War
I view the American Civil War as the center point of American history. The burning issue of the day was slavery. But the underlying problem was a sense of ambivalence about whether America was really a country, or a group of independent entities. The Civil War established the idea of America as a single nation. Snow’s Grandmother
Several weeks ago, I had a most interesting conversation with Snow's grandmother. The logistics of the thing were a little tricky, because the kind lady did not really speak Mandarin, and certainly not English. But Snow speaks Mandarin, English, her native dialect, Baihua (Beihai area dialect) as well as Cantonese, so she was well able to interpret for me. As the story develops, and we hear about how Snow was adopted, the role of mother and grandmother tend to merge. Snow refers to her as her grandmother, but although Snow was adopted and became part of a peasant family, it was this lady herself who nurtured Snow as an infant. Related Blog Post

Snow and Fly
This episode introduces Snow and Fly, a couple young people I met in Beihai. Snow is very interested in English, and really quite good at it, if you consider her background as a poor country kid from the rural area where absolutely nobody speaks English. Snow does not come from a Christian background at all, but she dragged her classmate along to church, probably in hopes of meeting a foreigner. You will enjoy her warm, engaging personality. Chinese young people talking about what Chinese people believe. There seems to be some ambivalence about this. One young lady said, "I believe in myself."
