Beneath Twin Suns: A Star Wars Podcast

Join Mercules and Kyt Kutcha for weekly breakdowns of Star Wars media! We go over connections between the shows, movies, comics, games, and books (both Legends and Canon), as well as behind the scenes trivia and stories from production. Let's talk about Andor, Ahsoka, The Bad Batch, Tales of the Empire, The Acolyte, and more!

189 - The Mandalorian and Grogu First Impressions

We watched The Mandalorian and Grogu, so let's talk about it: What we liked, what we didn't, what we wanted to see more of, and much more! Let's jump in!BECOME A PATRON: https://www.patreon.com/massivebreakdownpodcastsCHAT SERVER: https://discord.gg/C44PeM5RSf

188 - Maul: Shadow Lord First Impressions, Celebration Ticket Buying Experience, Life Update

Sorry for the extended break, but having a kid will do that to you! Let's talk about our first impressions of the new show Maul: Shadow Lord, and also discuss how the ticket buying experience was for our first Celebration!BECOME A PATRON: https://www.patreon.com/massivebreakdownpodcastsCHAT SERVER: https://discord.gg/C44PeM5RSf

187 - Chronological Clone Wars - Revival (501), Eminence (514), Shades of Reason (515), and The Lawless (516)

Is this the greatest arc of Clone Wars up to this point? Very close to it, at least in contention with the Umbara arc. Let's jump in and chat about Maul just in time for the release of Shadow Lord next week (and also just in time for baby Mercules to get here, so it might be a bit before we release another new episode)!BECOME A PATRON: https://www.patreon.com/massivebreakdownpodcastsCHAT SERVER: https://discord.gg/C44PeM5RSf

  4. 190

186 - Chronological Clone Wars - Secret Weapons (510), A Sunny Day in the Void (511), Missing in Action (512), and Point of No Return (513)

Is this our least favorite Clone Wars arc ever? It just might be, which is weird considering it is apparently George Lucas's favorite! With the first two episodes starting off so deep in the droid hole, the last two episodes which shift the focus to an MIA Clone Commando and a mysterious kamikaze Venator can't quite make up the difference. Let's jump over to Abafar and figure out what it is that is going on in this so called "Void"!BECOME A PATRON: https://www.patreon.com/massivebreakdownpodcastsCHAT SERVER: https://discord.gg/C44PeM5RSf

  5. 189

185 - Chronological Clone Wars - Bound for Rescue (508) and A Necessary Bond (509)

Back again to finish off the rest of the Young Jedi arc, and there remains a lot of unanswered questions going into it. Is Hondo truly evil? Will General Grievous ever get a signature win? Why is there a traveling troupe of circus performers on Florrum? Some of these questions and more, answered on this week's Beneath Twin Suns! 184 - Chronological Clone Wars - The Gathering (506) and A Test of Strength (507)

While The Gathering in particular is more youngling-focused than most episodes of Clone Wars, there's something to appreciate even for adults with the introduction of David Tennant's Huyang and the return Jim Cummins' Hondo. 183 - Chronological Clone Wars - The Soft War (504) and Tipping Points (505)

Back again with the conclusion of the Onderon arc, and in this case each episode is better than the previous one. When we finish up a watch through and our biggest complaint is that we didn't get to spend enough time with the characters or the location, you know they must have done something right! We're back with Season Five of Chronological Clone Wars! We head straight to Onderon to get our first introduction to Saw Gerrera and visit with Lux Bonteri again, while Ahsoka has some great character development as she has the opportunity to really lead one of her first mostly solo operations. Are you excited for the new Maul show, but you only know him as the cool villain who got cut in half in The Phantom Menace? Did you watch the Clone Wars show so long ago you can't quite remember the details? Well good news, everyone! We're back with another Essential Episodes primer to get you back up to speed. 180 - Dave Filoni OC Criticism Validity, Kathleen Kennedy Exit Interview Special Report

Well, perhaps sooner than we thought but it is official: Kathleen Kennedy is stepping down and being replaced by Lynwen Brennan and Dave Filoni. This news has obviously caused shockwaves in the Star Wars fandom, with a number of people asking whether or not Dave Filoni relies too much on his Rebels and Clone Wars characters, and if he can be trusted to expand the universe as opposed to making it feel small. We've got some objective data to support our thoughts on that. We'll also be breaking down the interview that Kathleen Kennedy did with Deadline, which has a ton of great info about the future of Star Wars and her experience leading a galaxy far, far away. 179 - The Apprentice Becomes the Master: Dave Filoni Special Report

With the recent news that Kathleen Kennedy will be stepping down as head of Lucasfilm, to be replaced by Dave Filoni, we thought we'd take a look back at his history and address some of the criticisms that we have seen towards the move. In particular, we'll be covering the assertions that Dave Filoni doesn't respect the EU or stories that came before, and that he tends to focus on characters from the animated TV shows to the detriment of wider audiences' experience. In what will probably be our second to last episode of the year, we want to gather up and present all the known information about the Star Wars projects we are expecting to see (or hear a lot about) in 2026. This includes The Mandalorian and Grogu, Ahsoka Season 2, Maul: Shadow Lord, and Star Wars: Starfighter. Some we know a lot about, and some very little, but it's all here. 177 - Chronological Clone Wars - Brothers (421) and Revenge (422)

After another delay we're finally back to close out Clone Wars' fourth season, and what an incredible couple episodes to end on. While Revenge is widely considered one of the strongest episodes of the show, we actually find that we might prefer Brothers a little more due to the strength of the voice acting performance given by Sam Witwer. We're back with the first two episodes of the Season Four finale arc, and boy are they some good ones! 174 - Chronological Clone Wars - The Box (417) and Crisis on Naboo (418)

Is The Box really a top 25 episode in all of Clone Wars? Do all Clone Wars fans hate Jar Jar, the Martez sisters, and Droid episodes? These questions and more, answered on this weeks episode of Beneath Twin Suns! And also we talk about Crisis on Naboo and Revenge of the Sith Anakin making an appearance. 173 - Chronological Clone Wars - Deception (415) and Friends and Enemies (416)

Another fantastic arc in Season 4, this time starting with Deception. Obi-Wan goes deep undercover as the Mandalorian bounty hunter Rako Hardeen, and the Jedi keep too many secrets from Anakin, with an introductory set of episodes that is surprisingly strong even when taken as standalones. 171 - Chronological Clone Wars - Kidnapped (411), Slaves of the Republic (412), and Escape from Kadavo (413)

We're back from our early September break and returning with another very strong arc, the Slaves of the Republic (or Zygerian Slavers) arc, based on a 6-part comic written by Henry Gilroy and published by Dark Horse. This arc is special because we get to two things that are very rare in Star Wars: Obi-Wan truly at a loss for how to save people, and Anakin acting like James Bond. 21. 173

170 - Chronological Clone Wars - Plan of Dissent (409) and Carnage of Krell (410)

We're back, just before our two-week hiatus, with Plan of Dissent and Carnage of Krell! These episodes very impressively serve their purpose capping off conclusion of the Umbara arc, setting a new standard for the quality of stories Clone Wars can tell and giving us some of the finest voice acting in the series so far from Dee Bradley Baker. 22. 172

169 - Chronological Clone Wars - Darkness on Umbara (407) and The General (408)

We've finally reached one of the best and most pivotal arcs in all of the Clone Wars: Darkness on Umbara. Not only visually stunning but also some of the best writing we've ever gotten for the Clones and their infamous temporary leader, Pong Krell, the Umbara arc represents a new high water mark for quality in the show. 23. 171

168 - Chronological Clone Wars - Mercy Mission (405) and Nomad Droids (406)

Potentially hitting the low point for the Clone Wars, this two episode pair focuses almost entirely on C-3PO and R2-D2, and could be completely skipped over without losing anything for the larger Star Wars storylines. While they introduce some interesting Willow inspired magic and creatures, they are never mentioned again in canon and so, by the end, it's like the story never even happened. 24. 170

    167 - Chronological Clone Wars - Shadow Warrior (404)

We return this week with one of the rare fully standalone episodes of Season 4, in this case a Gungan version of Kurosawa's 1980 film, Shadow Warrior! While the ending differs quite a bit, in a more family friendly way, the bones are all their and it's not a bad outing on Naboo all told. 25. 169

166 - Chronological Clone Wars - Water War (401), Gungan Attack (402), and Prisoners (403)

We start season four off with a bang (or an underwater implosion, more specifically) in the truly unique arc Water War, detailing a planetary civil war between the Quarren and Mon Calamari. In our assessment the show has never looked better, or been more spectacular, than it does here. Even if the story can't quite keep up with the visuals, it's still a great time overall. 26. 168

165 - Chronological Clone Wars - Padawan Lost (321) and Wookie Hunt (322)

We've finally reached the end of the third season of Chronological Clone Wars, and it wraps up on a bit of a lighter note compared to the previous two arcs. While the episodes themselves feel pretty par for the course for Clone Wars, the technological advancements in terms of how they design their more organic looking sets are noticeable, and there's a solid lesson for Anakin to learn tucked away in the last few seconds. 27. 167

164 - Chronological Clone Wars - The Citadel (318), Counter Attack (319), and Citadel Rescue (320)

We're nearing the end of our third season of Chronological Clone Wars, and truth be told neither one of us remembered much about this arc prior to our rewatch. But afterwards, we were shocked at how much very important info comes from these episodes, including the some serious characterization for Captain Tarkin outside of the movies, and the "death" of Echo. 162 - Chronological Clone Wars - Overlords (315), Altar of Mortis (316), and Ghosts of Mortis (317)

We've finally returned to our chronological watch through of the Clone Wars, and we're back with a bang! The Mortis arc is one of the iconic arcs from the show, and we've got a lot to talk about in terms of how George Lucas seemingly views both the Force itself, and the definition of balance. We are finally taking a look back at Andor's second season. When we ask ourselves the question, "Is Andor's second season truly a masterpiece?", we find it hard to answer any way other than an unequivocal YES! However, when we ask whether or not all Star Wars should be like Andor, that is a more complicated answer. Let's dive in! 160 - Tales of the Underworld: Cad Bane

Cad Bane's tale is a strong contender for the best of the series so far, up alongside Dooku's arc. From his background as a kid on the streets to finally putting on the iconic hat, it's interesting to see what led him to be the character we know and love from the Clone Wars. And even despite knowing how it ends up, they still manage to get some good tension into the finale, which is no easy feat. In this brand new style of episode, we break down the timeline for Star Wars: Underworld, all the way from the first rumors of its existence in 2004 to the eventual public acknowledgement of its shelving in 2012, and then a resurgence in interest post Disney acquisition all the way up until 2017. We talk about George's vision, the writers room, and all the rumored stories that came out of it. 152 - Chronological Clone Wars - Monster (313) and Witches of the Mist (314)

We finish up our Nightsisters arc with two episodes that, combined, we feel give us the strongest story arc we have had up to this point in Clone Wars. While in the short term it is somewhat overshadowed by the Mortis arc that followed it, in the long term this arc has far reaching effects on the Star Wars universe beyond just the animated shows. 151 - Chronological Clone Wars - Nightsisters (312)

This week we begin one of the strongest arcs that Clone Wars has had to date, fleshing out the relationship between Asajj Ventress and Dooku, and adding the Nightsisters to George's highest tier of canon. An excellent episode written by Katie Lucas, it walks the fine line of respecting what came before in the EU while adding just enough new info to make things exciting! 148 - Chronological Clone Wars - Hostage Crisis (122) and Hunt for Ziro (309)

These two episodes combine to make one really fun "gangster" arc, with gratuitous violence and some absolutely ridiculous scenes that could only work in Star Wars. We'd both forgotten how interesting these episodes are, and they conclude Season Three's first extended arc on a high point. Let's jump in! 147 - Chronological Clone Wars - Assassin (307) and Evil Plans (308)

Clone Wars third season gets its first four episode arc, even if one of those episodes is technically from season one, but we get more Cad Bane so who's complaining? Both episodes have something to love about them, from getting to visit a scenic Alderaan to listening to Anthony Daniel's have a great time as C-3PO, so even if the stories themselves aren't the best they're still enjoyable to watch. 146 - Chronological Clone Wars - ARC Troopers (302) and Sphere of Influence (304)

Well, we have discovered that the Chronological list does appear to be wrong, at least in this case. These two episodes, we believe, are actually the first two episodes of Season 3, and they are maybe the best examples of standalone episodes we have seen so far. Each episode showcases a totally different side of The Clone Wars but they both to it really well. In what feels inspired by a 1950s black and white noir detective mystery, Satine and Padme team up to figure out who is benefitting from the current instability on Mandalore. We have a lot to talk about with the penultimate episode of Skeleton Crew, with some conflicting opinions about how a few of the scenes are handled.
