Better Than A Mirror

Welcome to "Better Than a Mirror," where my identical twin sister, Annai, and I, Aimee, share our extraordinary journey with you. Although separated by geographical distances due to our current endeavors, our profound connection remains unbreakable. Annai is not just my best friend; she's also my inspiring teacher, and the fact that we're identical twins adds an extra layer of magic to our bond. This podcast is our platform to open up our conversations to the world because we genuinely enjoy them, and we're convinced that you will too. We believe that life is meant to be experienced together.

  1. 74

    73 - Begin Again

This week we talk about beginning again, simple and always applicable. Hopefully, you take something away, and hopefully that something is that you begin again, whatever it may be. Go on, carry on.

  2. 73

    72 - Friends

"Friends..." It’s the intro to a very iconic broadcast, if you know, you know, and it’s also the topic of today’s conversation. We talk a little bit about everything: friends, virtue, and what it actually means to be a friend. Aimee gives us some insight into how to make new connections and, most importantly, the question we should all be asking: how can we become better friends ourselves?

  3. 72

    71- She Also Said Yes!

Two years ago, well, almost three, Aimee said yes. Yes to him, yes to marriage, and yes to now. This time, I’m the one saying yes. I answer the same questions Aimee did when she got engaged. Disclaimer: I think a lot, but I speak poorly! I hope I did Rafa some justice, and I hope you enjoy!

  4. 71

    70 - AI

AI is the objective of the year. It’s being integrated into every corner of the corporate world, yet while everyone is talking about it, what is actually going on ? Is there anything we should be worried about? To help us understand it all a bit better, we’re joined by a special guest (very special): Rafa, a Machine Learning Engineer. We dive into the balance between rapid innovation and risk, addressing the common fears of the unknown and the hopes for an AI-driven future.

  5. 70

69 - Is It Comfort or Peace?

How many times do we choose comfort over peace? What is the actual difference between the two, and are they ever interchangeable? Can we have both?We may not have all the answers, but we do have a great conversation. In this episode, Aimee and I discuss why our ultimate goal should be peace over comfort and how to get one step closer to achieving it.Warning: finding true peace often requires sacrificing our comfort.

  6. 69

  7. 68

    67 - Little Sister

Our youngest-ever special guest, our little sister. This week we learn from her and her generation. Join us as she teaches us about what matters to her and she answers the toughest question yet, "What would you say to your older self?"

  8. 67

    66 - Faith Over Fear

Aimee’s words give us the deepest takeaway (as usual): Fear doesn't just steal your joy; it rapidly erodes your capacity to love. In my words: Risk it for the biscuit. So, how do we stop being afraid? The answer is action. It demands that you actively trust and continuously choose love over fear. And what is faith? As Aimee reminds us, faith is trusting in God.So start now, take daily doses of scary things, get over that fear that is based on a lie, get to know others (especially God), and love.

  9. 66

    65 - Healing

Why is our generation so focused on healing? From what and for what?

  10. 65

    64 - Happiness

Can we be truly happy all the time? If so, sign me up!

  11. 64

    63 - Innovation & Human Dignity

This week, we're joined by special guest Diana Escoda, the founder of Tic Tac Toe Innovations and former VP of Innovation at P&G, Coca-Cola, and Clorox. We'll explore the world of human-centered innovation, starting with the fundamentals: What is innovation, and what does it mean to make it truly human-centered? Our conversation then moves to the culture behind this approach, focusing on the crucial role of human dignity. Diana explains why valuing every person's input is a non-negotiable step and how we can get there.

  12. 63

    62 - It's Our Responsibility

"It's not procastrination it's childhood trauma", a real saying that I came accross right after recording this podcast. It's like saying you're not a bad driver, everyone else is a bad driver. It might be true, but it's more likely that you're the problem. But this is not a point of despair, but rather of joy, because if you are the problem you are the solution (well you know where to start) ;) . In this episode, we talk about our responsibility. What exactly is responsibility, what is our responsibility as youth and most importantly what is our greatest responsibility. Taking responsibility will help us grow in virtue and character, so don't be afraid to be more responsible!

  13. 62

61 - Have We Forgotten How to Talk?

Let's talk about it. Well, in this episode, we don't go too much in-depth into the disappearance of good conversations, but we do talk about the importance of having them. We discuss how they are essential to building strong relationships and are always an opportunity to bring God into the lives of others. Hopefully, this episode inspires you or leads to some good conversations ;).

  14. 61

    60 - Hope You Enjoy

Today, we're talking all about hope: what it is and what it isn't, and why it can be so hard to have. But to end on a hopeful note, Aimee will share how you can acquire this virtue. We hope you enjoy! ;)

  15. 60

59 - Sent Out Two by Two

Being unique doesn’t mean being alone. Being unique doesn’t mean being opposite. Something twins learn early on is that their twin is one of their greatest blessing! This week, we're joined by Jocelyn and Jackie, another amazing pair of twins! While they share our love for being twins and for their twin, they have different perspectives on life and have been given different talents than Aimee and I. Listen in to learn about them and the importance of using our individual talents to serve and to help others do the same. Remember: unique, but not alone!

  16. 59

    58 - Freedom

    What is freedom?

  17. 58

57 - Gravity, The Only Thing We Obey

Ok, maybe that title may be a bit dramatic but it is fair to say we all obey gravity, whether we like it or not. But beyond this fundamental force, who else do we obey and why? Is obedience a childhood virtue we outgrow, like diapers? Not at all. So, what is true obedience, how can we grow in it, and why is it a virtue? Tune in to find out.

  18. 57

    56 - Take Our Advice

We're here to tell you whose advice to take... and naturally, we think it starts with ours (a.k.a. the episode’s title)! More importantly, we explore how to take everyone's advice and discern what truly makes it good. And perhaps the best advice to give is simply to take it.

  19. 56

  21. 54

    53 - Learning From A Baby

Guess who is having a baby? If you guessed Aimee, you are right! That should have been easy. Join us as she talks about her pregnancy and how she is growing and learning as her baby (Lil Auguie The Cutie 3) grows inside her womb!

  22. 53

52 - Enough To Be Better

Have you ever felt that you weren't good enough? Maybe not a good enough friend, or a good enough cook, or maybe not even good enough to even try? Well, we are here to tell you that you are not only good enough, you are so good, so great that you are enough to be better! Now, while this may sound confusing, it makes perfect sense, and if you don't understand, well we have a podcast for you!

  23. 52

    51 - Daniela The BOAT

In today's episode, we have a very special guest, Daniela! She shares her journey with risk and how to handle life. Why is she a boat? Well, you'll have to listen in to my great analogy, and it can also stand for Bravest Of All Time, both of these fit her. Listen in to learn about how to take a leap of faith and risk it for the biscuit ;)

  24. 51

    50 - Say My Name

How much does our name matter? Why is it important that we say people's names and remember them? Sounds like common sense but why is it that we have to remind ourselves and why do we do it so rarely (well maybe it's just where I live)? Today we discuss all of this and talk about what is known as the culture of encounter, the superpower combating the culture of indifference. Listen to this short and sweet conversation.

  25. 50

    49 - Choosing To Wait

Many things in life require patience, like waiting for your grass to grow, but what about choosing to wait? Why would anyone willingly choose to wait? Well, because the reward is greater! In this episode, Aimee shares her wisdom on delayed gratification. How can we apply it to many aspects of our lives and become better at practicing it? Listen in and learn from Aimee ;)

  26. 49

    48 - Trust Us

After a long pause, we are back with something that will hopefully interest you. This week we talk about trust. How to trust, why to trust, how to re-establish trust, and, most importantly, who to trust. We are no experts in this field, life is full of trial and error but you can trust us to share interesting thoughts ;).

  27. 48

    47 - Culture

Another week, another typical conversation between sisters. This week, we talk about culture, what it is, and what it isn't. We attempt to answer why culture is destroyed and the difference between a lack of culture, but we are just two engineers who ask questions as a hobby. So maybe you can listen in and enlighten us!

  28. 47

    46 - I Need A Hero

Where have our heroes gone? Do we need them? In this week's episode, Aimee brings up an interesting point about the disappearance of heroes or even simply virtuous protagonists in our movies. What even is a hero?

  29. 46

45 - Getting Rid Of The Self

How do we become selfless and is it something that we should stive for? It sounds nice but will it make us happy? Let's talk about it ;) , and maybe try it out.

  30. 45

    44 - Miss Interdependent

What's better than being independent? Being interdependent. The key is learning and expanding your skills while depending on and helping others develop their skills. For this podcast, Aimee gives us a whole leadership training in just a few minutes. Listen in to learn how to excel in your career and your relationship. It might have to do something with learning to be interdependent, but you'll only know if you listen ;) .

  31. 44

43 - Where is the Grass Greener?

This week we tackle the lifelong question, "Is the grass greener on the other side?" While it's true that we will only know when we get there, how do we decide whether we should take that risk/leap of faith or just be patient? Can we know beforehand? What even is grass? So many questions and few answers but we try to answer them all in this episode!

  32. 43

42 - Loyalty to Our Work

"We are a Family", is a common slogan that gets used in different work settings, but are we? Are we really a "family"? What better person to discuss this with than actual family (a.k.a my twin sister ;) )! This week we talk about loyalty, work relationships, differences, and boundaries, and tie it all together with servitude.

  33. 42

    41 - Real Masculinity

  35. 40

39 - Have Structure Not Fear

If you have ever asked yourself, what has Aimee been thinking about these days? Well, this episode answers precisely that question. She's been thinking about having structure and fear. While this episode itself doesn't have much structure, we highlight the importance of structure and then jump into fear and somehow tie it all together. Listen in to Aimee's wisdom!

  36. 39

    38 - Be a Twin

In today’s episode we talk about each other! The great joys of being twins to celebrate our birthday and to give a special thank you to the one who made us twins ;) . Listen to learn a little about what it is like to be a twin, and maybe just maybe to learn how to be a twin ;)

  37. 38

    37 - Reactive vs. Proactive

In this episode, Aimee takes the lead in exploring the difference between reacting and being proactive. While both are essential, we often find ourselves leaning more towards one than the other. Guess which one? That's right, reacting! So how can we shift towards a more proactive mindset, not just in engineering but in life? The answer lies in something we call formation. But how did we get from proactive to formation? Tune in to this week's episode to find out.

  38. 37

36 - What Do We Know?

I don't know. In this episode Aimee and I talk about the boundaries of human understanding, discussing when seeking information is beneficial and when it becomes an obsession. By the end, you'll have a clearer grasp of what you know, and perhaps even more importantly, what you don't.

  39. 36

    35 - It’s About Time

It’s about time we released our episode! But also the episode is about time, more specifically the value of time. We talk about finding the balance between planning and seeking growth, pushing yourself but also leaving it in the hands of time (God). Understanding that some things simply take time, like gaining experience and building relationships.

  40. 35

This week we have a very special guest, Camila, also known as Cami. She gives us her hot takes on social cults, their ideologies, and their false sense of reality.

  41. 34

33 - Hot Take : But Everyone Does it

We've all been there: doing something simply because "everyone else is doing it." But is that a good enough reason? Do you even know everyone? Have you stopped to consider why they're doing it? This week's podcast dives into the concept of herd mentality. While it's natural to seek social connection, blindly following the crowd can have downsides. Just because something becomes "normalized" doesn't mean it's right. It's time to question more and think for ourselves. Join us as we explore ways to break free from the herd and make conscious choices!

  42. 33

    32 - Our Mother

This week, we're thrilled to welcome a guest whose influence goes far deeper than "special" - it's our mom! Mother's Day may have just passed, but her impact is a constant force in our lives. 44. 31

    30 - Late but Planned

In this week's episode, we talked about procrastination, and ironically, I procrastinated and posted it a whole week late! Aimee shares her new perspective on how to think about procrastination. Whether we are moved by fear or gratitude, the first step is to act and act on what we are being called to do. Join us hopefully, you will gain some insight into what seems to be life's longest challenge.

  45. 30

    29 - He is Everywhere

It was just a conversation between sisters. This week, we discuss our weekend, share our thoughts, and end the mini-series by answering the question: Where is God? The truth is that he is everywhere, whether we acknowledge it or not. He is the silent retreat and with us while we do our weekend chores.

  46. 29

    28 - Where is God? : Marriage

In this week's episode, we talked about marriage. We started the mini-series by looking at how faith affects every aspect of our lives—well if we let it. 47. 28

27 - Where is God? : Our Work

We decided to do a mini-series on living our faith. Why? Well, we thought about it, and after several work trainings, I wondered if my coworkers had ever asked themselves these questions. Join Aimee and me in this conversation on how faith can transform your work.

  48. 27

  50. 25

    24 - D.I.N.K.S ?

Dual Income No Kids, yup, that's a thing, and that's the acronym for it. Is it a good idea? Who chooses this, and what does that mean for our society? Aimee is back, and as a newlywed, she is ready to discuss her take on this life choice. She explains why so many young couples have opted for this lifestyle and why it may not be the best for the couple, the soul, and even society.
