Titus Week 1
This week we started a new series on the book of Titus. We saw through chapter 1 that Paul had left Titus on the Island of Crete to advance the gospel and grow the Church. Crete was known for being a rough place where the people were described as lying, evil, lazy brutes and so Paul gave Titus a list of qualifications to look for in the leaders that were Monday-Sunday qualifications. He instructed Titus to find men who lived counter culturally in every aspect of their lives so that the knowledge of truth could lead to godliness in the lives of all who followed them. The call is the same for us today. Our hearts should be transformed by the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ so that in every home, community and city we are in people can see our lives as a reflection of the qualities of the One we follow. Listen in as Bri, Ian, Jeff and Angie share their takeaways from this week's teaching. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Sent not Scattered
This we looked at the great commission from Matthew 28:18-20. We learned that this commission wasn't just for the disciples Jesus was speaking to or just for missionaries and pastors but that it is for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord. That means wherever we are "as we go" we are striving to represent the One who sent us. We saw that a "sent" life is accomplished by being the most present person in the room, living a life that raises the question, and staying connected to the One who sent them and to those who are running the race with them. Listen in as Ian, Brason, Ben, Jeb, and Jocelyn share their takeaways from this week's teaching. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Stake Your Claim
This we looked at the life of Caleb in Numbers 13 & 14 and Joshua 14. Through his life we learned that a wholehearted devotion/faith sees what others cannot because we see the faithfulness and size of our God as being greater than any obstacle or opposition we will ever face. We learned that living with wholehearted devotion even in the waiting for God's promises produces more boldness and more confidence in who God is. Listen in as Bri, Ian, Tristin and Nate share their takeaways from this week's teaching. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Don't Quit
This we looked at James 1:1-4 and Romans 5:3-5 and saw that the difficulties that we are going through now, or that we will go through are developing something that nothing else can develop. We saw that when we frame our struggles through lens of knowing who God is and what God is capable of we can face them with a joy and a hope that is rooted not in an outcome but in the truth of the power and ability of our God to use them for His glory and our good. Suffering produces perseverance, perseverance produces proven character and character produce a hope in Christ that will never disappoint. Listen in as Bri, Ian, Hannah, Tianna and Victoria share their takeaways from this week's teaching. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Palm Sunday (Rivals Week 6)
We are in week 6 of our Rivals series at Compass Worship. We are looking at some of the rivalries in God's Word and how we can keep from repeating history and see some amazing characteristics of our God. This week we looked at the rivalry between our expectations vs. God's plan. We looked at Matthew 21 and saw that on Palm Sunday the people expected their Messiah to be different than He truly was. They wanted a worldly figure to deliver them from worldly oppressions but Jesus, the King of kings had his face set on delivering all people for all time from the penalty of sin. Jesus came to rescue us from so much more than our temporary struggles, He came to set us spiritually free forever. So when our expectations of what Jesus is doing are only focused on the here and now we are missing the true reason that God sent Jesus into the world in the first place - to save souls. Listen in as Ian, Jeff, Paige, and Makaela share their takeaways from this week's teaching. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Rivals Week 5
We are in week 5 of our Rivals series at Compass Worship. We are looking at some of the rivalries in God's Word and how we can keep from repeating history and see some amazing characteristics of our God. This week we looked at the rivalry between Peter & John vs. the Sanhedrin (Acts 4). Through this rivalry we see that a courageous faith:speaks and lives out truth even when it’s unpopular, intimidating, risky and may cost you everything.is unashamed in proclaiming that Jesus is the only way to salvation – but does so with love and clarity. allows God to equip us through His Word and the Holy Spirit. God equips ordinary people to do extraordinary things when they rely on Him. Listen in as Ian, Joshua, Cooper and Easton share their takeaways from this week's teaching. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Rivals Week 4
We are in week 4 of our Rivals series at Compass Worship. We are looking at some of the rivalries in God's Word and how we can keep from repeating history and see some amazing characteristics of our God. This week we looked at the rivalry between Jesus and the Pharisees. Courtney showed us that everything that Jesus did, even in his rivalry with the Pharisees was done with compassion. He lived in such a way that we can see in every word, deed spoken that He is a compassionate God. Because of His great compassion we can (and should) rest more often in the depth of His compassion for us. Listen in as Ian, Adam, Sol and Braylee share their takeaways from this week's teaching. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Rivals Week 3
We are in week 3 of our Rivals series at Compass Worship. We are looking at some of the rivalries in God's Word and how we can keep from repeating history and see some amazing characteristics of our God. This week we looked at the rivalry between the Jews and the Gentiles. What we saw from Acts 10 & 11 was that God erased every boundary that once existed so that ALL people could have access to Him through the life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We were challenged to understand that when we judge others we are; shrinking God's Kingdom, re-drawing boundaries that God erased and living self-righteously thinking the Kingdom is just for us. Listen in as Ian, Chloe, Grant and Bri, share their takeaways from this week's teaching. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Rivals Week 2
We are in week 2 of our Rivals series at Compass Worship. We are looking at some of the rivalries in God's Word and how we can keep from repeating history and see some amazing characteristics of our God. This week we looked at King Saul vs. David (specifically in 1 Samuel 24 & 26). Through this almost one sided rivalry we learned how to truly love our enemies (Matthew 5:43-44). While David had only supported and helped King Saul to find success as king, Saul saw David's rise in popularity as a threat. This perceived threat led to jealous, bitterness and paranoia and a pursuit to end David's life. David however, two different times had a chance to end the rivalry by taking the life of his "enemy." Instead of desiring revenge David chose humility over hostility and chose to trust God with the ultimate outcome. That is loving your enemy! That is the gospel! That God valued us "while we were sinners" and sent His Son to die for us even though we didn't deserve it, even though our sin made us His enemy. Choosing to value all people because all people are valuable to God and trusting that God is the ultimate judge of all hearts and that He is a just God allows us to pursue Jesus command for us to Love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. Listen in as Ian, Ava, Dmitri, and Aidan share their takeaways from this week's teaching. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Rivals Week 1
This week at Compass Worship we started a new series called Rivals. We are going to be looking at some of the rivalries in God's Word and how we can keep from repeating history and see some amazing characteristics of our God. This week we looked at Cain vs. Able. Though it was a short lived rivalry it showed us how comparison can lead to hurt, hurt to jealousy, jealousy to anger and anger well in this case to murder. We learned that in order to keep sin from controlling us we need to Guard your heart from comparison, Take conviction seriously, Deal with emotions early and Never underestimate God’s mercy. We also saw through this rivalry that while God is a just God, He is also a merciful God who warns us before sin, confronts after sin, continues to show us grace and mercy despite our sin and that He is always pursuing you desiring to provide and protect you through the life, death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Listen in as Bri, Alice, Ellie, Kari, and Jeff share their takeaways from this week's teaching. Just Tell Me Already Week 4
This week at Compass Worship we finished up our "Just Tell Me Already" series. We focused on the principle of if we are pursuing His person, then we should wisely pursue our passions. We then looked at four ways God has given us to wisely pursue our passions; running everything through the filter of His Word, leaning into the presence of His Spirit, having a counsel of close spiritual companions and through the merging of multiple moments of our lives. If we will do that God will shape us into the right people, in the right places at the right time for His right purposes. Listen in as Ian, Owen, Jeb, Jocelyn, Carter and Brayson share their takeaways from this week's teaching. Worship in the Waiting
This morning at Compass Worship we leaned into the idea that waiting on the Lord is expected, expectant, and intentional. We were able to worship, and learn this morning from the Word and an expended time of lifting our voices and hearts to the Lord as we surrendered and invited Him to move in our lives. Listen in as some of this week's worship team; Bri, Ani, Owen, Kari, Braylon join Ian to share their takeaways from this week. Just Tell Me Already Week 3
This week at Compass Worship we were in week 3 of our "Just Tell Me Already" series. We focused in on the life of Jospeh and learned some important truths about God's will for our lives. WE saw that God is more concerned about who we are than He is where we go or what we do. He desires to shape us into being the right person in the right place at the right time for His right purposes. He also learned that God is always at work in our lives even in the dark. When we are feeling alone, betrayed, forgotten, our inexhaustible God is always working His plan out for the good of those who love Him. Listen in as Ian, Guy, will and Adam share their takeaways from week 2. Just Tell Me Already Week 2
This week at Compass Worship we were in week 2 of our "Just Tell Me Already" series. We focused in on Psalm 37. We continued building on the foundational truth that God's will is more about who you are becoming than it is where you go or what you do. We learned this week that sometimes that means we find ourselves in a season of waiting. Waiting on the Lord is an active thing. We keep doing the right thing, right now as we dependently wait on the Lord trusting that His view is greater and His faithfulness is forever. Listen in as Ian, Leah, Ella and Ella share their takeaways from week 2. Just Tell Me Already Week 1
This week at Compass Worship we began a 4 week series we are calling "Just Tell Me Already!" We are going to journey through scripture to see God's will and direction for our lives. This week we laid a foundational truth that God is much more concerned with who you are becoming than He is what you do or where you go. God longs to be with us and longs for us to simply trust that He has good plans and He is faithful in carrying them out if we will just trust and allow Him to lead us. We closed our time with the words of David from Psalm 25:4-5 and asked God to "Show us His way, teach us His path, and guide us in His Truth in every aspect of our lives in every day of our lives. When we embrace this mindset and heart posture we can have confidence that we are in the center of God's will. Listen in as Ian, Madison, Katie, Maya and Ellie share their takeaways from week 1. 10:10 Life (Week 4)
This week at Compass Worship we concluded our 10:10 Life series by focusing on the fullness of hope that is found when we anchor our lives to the life of Jesus, the cross and the resurrection of Jesus. We focused on the truth that Jesus is the only unshakeable hope that we have in this life, everything else that we try to put our hope in will ultimately fail us and leave us drifting. We looked at some of the promises of God and how the resurrection has solidified every one of those promise. When we believe know Jesus, view the cross correctly and embrace the truth of the resurrection we can trust that God can and will provide us everything we need to live a 10:10 Life. We learned the result of our generosity is people's needs being met and God being praised. We were challenged to acknowledge how much God has given us and He has given it to us so that we can bless the world around us. Get In The Game & Stay In It
This week were encouraged by Toby Middlesworth to Get in the "game" and stay in the "game." The game is living the life that Christ has called us to. We focused on having and eternal perspective and understanding that all we do is for God not us so that the world around us can see Him through our lives. Toby also encouraged us to remember it isn't about being perfect, it is about being willing that God desires. When we are willing He can take our imperfection, insecurities, unworthies, and doubts and turn them into Kingdom growing opportunities. Listen in as Ian, Bri, Jocelyn and Jeb share their takeaways from this week's Compass Worship teaching. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. We were encouraged to remember that generosity is a spiritual discipline that reflects the heart of God to the world around us. It allows us to look beyond ourselves and see how God is able to provide everything and more than we need to have an abundant harvest. Everything & More (Week 2)
This week at Compass Worship we continued our series on generosity called Everything & More. We are focused on 2 Corinthians 8 & 9 and looking at how we build our faith by understanding and practicing generosity in our lives. This week we look specifically at the call to "excel in the ministry of giving." Paul encouraged the church in Corinth to close the gap between intentions and actions and to finish their commitment to give. We also discussed how giving is what we do, generous is who we are. While focusing on 2 Corinthians 8:10-12 we saw 3 attributes of generous people; give willingly, proportionately, and sacrificially. If we want to be generous people we need to plan and practice generosity in every aspect of our lives. Listen in as Ian, Amber, Rikah, and Devin share their takeaways from this week's teaching. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Everything & More (Week 1)
This week at Compass Worship we began a new series on generosity called Everything & More. We are focused on 2 Corinthians 8 & 9 and looking at how we build our faith by understanding and practicing generosity in our lives. This we we look specifically at the Macedonian churches that even though the had incredible poverty and suffering they were incredibly generous. They had a mindset of abundance that understood all that they did have came from God and so they honored Him first and "urgently pleaded" with Paul to give and be a part of the advancement of the gospel. Ehud- Strange Stories Week 3
This week at Compass Worship we concluded our "Strange Stories" series by looking at Judges 3. We saw that even when we are faithless God is faithful. We looked at the cycle of the Israelites; Rebel against God, be oppressed, cry out to God, God provides a Judge, live in peace and then repeat. God heard their cries time and time again and He hears us when we cry out to him as well. We also saw that God can and desires to use anyone to bring Him glory. We looked at Ehud who was from a small and morally bankrupt tribe and who was left-handed (not that there is anything wrong with that today) man to be the deliverer of His people. Listen in as Ian and his crew share their takeaways from this weeks teaching. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Strange Stories- Fisher of Coin?
This week at Compass Worship we continued our "Strange Stories" series by looking at Matthew 17. Through this "fish story" Matthew pointed us to the divinity of Jesus. Jesus, being the Son of God was exempt from paying the Temple Tax however, in order to remain on mission for His Father Jesus not only paid his tax but Peter's also. This was a beautiful picture of Jesus paying our tax, our debt even though he didn't need to. Jesus lived a sinless life yet chose to take on our sin and our debt so that we could be called sons and daughters of the King. He paid a debt He didn't owe out of the depth of His love for us. Listen to Jeff, Angie, Alyssa and Amaya as they share their thoughts and takeaways from this week's teaching. Strange Stories- Snake Bitten
This week at Compass Worship we started a new series looking at some of the "strange" stories or events from scripture and what we can learn from them. We were in Numbers 21 this week looking to God's remedy for the Israelites complaining and impatience. We saw that in God's creativity He provided a remedy in which if the people wanted healed from the snake bite they would have to trust in God's remedy and turn their eyes on the very thing that is causing their pain so they could be find healing and life. Jesus referenced this "strange" event in John 3 as He described to Nicodemous what was going to happen very soon. Jesus was going to be lifted high on a cross bearing the sins of the world once and for all, and all who look to His life, death, burial and resurrection will find life and life to the fullest.Listen to Ian, Amaya, Miranda and Angie as they share their thoughts and takeaways from this week's teaching. Forgiveness
This week at Compass Worship we had a guest speaker, Jeremy Glasford teach us about forgiveness. He reminded us of the parable that Jesus taught in Matthew 18. Through this parable we saw that we all have a debt that can never be repaid BUT that we also have a God who is gracious and forgiving and willing to forgive and restore our lives through the life, death, burial and resurrection of His one and only Son, Jesus Christ. Listen to Ian, Bri, Alli and Jeff as they share their thoughts and takeaways from this week's teaching. Jonah Week 4
This week at Compass Worship we conclude our journey through the book of Jonah. In Jonah 4 we are going to see that what God cares about above all else is people. Not perfect people, but all people. He is a gracious and compassionate God who slow in anger and abounding in love. Jonah had just been a part of a nations revival and yet he is angry and upset because God relented and the people he despised were saved. Jonah was more focused on his comfort, his desire, his perceived way things should happen that his heart was turned from God's heart. We are reminded throughout Jonah's life that even when our attitudes and emotions are changing about God, God's character never changes. God never stops seeking to turn and save all mankind. Listen to Ian, Isaiah, Van and Kyah as they share their thoughts and takeaways from Jonah 4 . Jonah Week 3
This week at Compass Worship we continued our journey through the book of Jonah. In Jonah 3 we are reminded that we serve a God of second chance, and with every second chance we have a choice. Jonah choose to listen and obey God by going to Ninevah proclaiming God's message. The Ninevities when they heard God's message through Jonah, choose to repent and turn away from their evil and wicked ways. We also have a choice to make every time God speaks to us whether through His Word, His people, His creation, His Holy Spirit, we can choose to obey, or continue in the direction away from Him. God in His ultimate goodness and graciousness desires all will choice to turn toward Him and repent. We saw through Jonah 3 that when we repent God relents. Listen to Jeff, Emmy, Zach, Grant and Kaleb as they share their thoughts on Jonah 3 and what they took away from God's word this week. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Jonah Week 2
This week at Compass Worship we continued our journey through the book of Jonah. In Jonah 2 and we see God providing for Jonah. Jonah praying out of helplessness, not hopelessness. Jonah, even before a miracle praising God as the only one who could save him. Then we saw God in His perfect timing saving Jonah onto dry land. There may be times in our lives that God's provision seems more like a problem, but if in our mess we will continue to pray and praise God, His timing is perfect and His salvation is real. Listen to Ian, Niko, Madisyn and Brooke as they share their thoughts on the second chapter of Jonah and what they took away from God's word this week. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Jonah Week 1
This week at Compass Worship we began a new series journeying us through the book of Jonah. From the first chapter we find a tension that is real in our lives just like it was Jonah's. God speaks but we don't want to do what He is calling us to do. Just like God spoke to Jonah and asked him to go to Ninevah to preach truth and repentance but Jonah choose to run the other direction from God's word. We often do the same thing. We have a God that still speaks to us through His word, His people, His Creation, the Holy Spirit, etc... but often when we hear it, read it, feel it we don't want to do what He is asking which leads to us running from God's desire for our lives.Listen to Ian, Haley, Mason and Sam as they share their thoughts on the first chapter of Jonah and what they took away from God's word this week. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Psalm 62
Listen to this weeks Compass Worship teaching on Psalms 62. This week we learned from the words and life of David the the only place we can truly find rest (quietness, peace) for our souls is in God. We were challenged to not just think of God as able to be someone else's salvation ,rock, fortress, hope and refuge but to believe He is that for ourselves. When we do that we can begin to trust that He alone is able to hold us up through any of life's circumstances. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Psalm 32
Listen to this weeks Compass Worship teaching on Psalms 32. This week we were reminded that we serve a God who longs to forgive us. We saw that when David finally stops hiding his sin, confessed (agreed with God about what He had done) that what he found was forgiveness. He encountered our God who wants him to be free from the burden of sin. Instead of anger he finds love. Instead of guilt and shame he finds rest. Instead of more destruction he finds deliverance. We can find the same thing through a surrendered life to Jesus Christ. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Psalm 19
Listen to this weeks Compass Worship teaching as we looked at Psalms 19. Through these words of David we first that the heavens, sky and all creation declare there is a Creator and He is worthy of our surrender and praise. Then we see how God's Word reveals to us God's will and offers guidance and satisfaction like nothing else in this world can ever do. Finally we see a humble response to these truths as David recognizes his insufficiencies and pleas with God to keep sin from having mastery over him and for help in lining up all of his words, actions and thoughts on all things true. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Through these words of David we were reminded of God's eternal majesty and ultimate authority as Creator and Sustainer of all things. We then saw just how valuable we are to God and how He created and purposed us with a responsibility that is greater than any other created thing. These truths were ultimately expressed through the life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ who became the perfect man and the pioneer of our salvation. This week we began our Psalms of Summer series by looking at Psalms 1 and seeing that happiness/contentment isn't necessarily inevitable but it also isn't unattainable. Unwavering Week 4
Listen to this weeks Compass Worship teaching and then stay tuned for our usual conversation led by Ian Brookshire. Ian, Miranda and Daniel will share their take aways from teaching as we looked at Daniel 10. Through this event in Daniel's life we learned that while we are waiting God is working. We were reminded that our God is a lifter, He lifts us when we are weak. We were reminded that we are precious to Him and that from the first moment that we pray He begins working. Though we may not see what is being done we trust that He is fighting our battle in a spiritual realm and can trust that He is with us and for us and that He is moving on our behalf. Unwavering Week 3
This week we have started our summer at Compass by posting our Compass Worship teaching and our usual conversation led by Ian Brookshire and crew. We are in week 3 of our Unwavering Series and we looked at Daniel 3 and the Unwavering Faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego as they faced a fiery trial. We learned that their faith in the One True God helped them stand tall in the midst of the unknown. As we journey through the fiery trials of life it would be good of us to remember that we have a God who can, a God who will, and even if He doesn't, He is still worthy of our Unwavering Faith in Him. Enjoy the Compass Worship teaching and stay tuned for Ian, Grant and Micah as they share their takeaways from this week. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Unwavering
This week Ian, Bri, Grace, Claire, Hailey, Alli and Kari share their take aways from the Compass Worship teaching. We are in week 2 of our Unwavering Series and this week we focused on Daniel 6 and how we can live Unwavering when under attack. We saw through the life of Daniel that even when we are under attack we can be confident in who our God is. Daniel showed this through serving God with integrity, trusting Him consistently, and honoring Him faithfully. Because of Daniel's Unwavering faith kings and kingdoms were impacted and were able to see who the One True God is that is worthy of our praise. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all. Jude
This week Ian, Bobby, Kayce and Jeff share their thoughts from this week's teaching from the book of Jude. In Jude's letter to believers he seeks to rally the people to "contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God's holy people." He pleas with the people, with us, to angonize for, fight for the unchanging truth of the gospel not allowing people to sneak in and twist truth and abuse God's grace. As he points out the consequence that awaits the false teachers, he gives us practical things we can do to uphold the faith. Build ourselves up in Truth (know His word). Pray in the Holy Spirit (pray that God's will not ours be done and desired). Remain in God's Love (keep ourselves committed to the truth of His love). When we do those things we are able to approach doubters and people with skewed views of the faith with mercy, desiring not to judge or condemn but to help them come to know the Truth. Our hope and prayer is that through the Beyond the Building podcast you would continue the conversation of God's Word in your home, on your campus, in your workplace and neighborhood so His gospel can be shared with all.
