Bible in the News

This week the News has yet again been filled with stories about the US’s attacking Iran.There have been reports of consecutive nights of airstrikes happening on Iran since President Donald Trump declared the temporary ceasefire agreement was "over".The US is said to be hitting key infrastructure and its reported that airports, bridges and water utilities in parts of the country have been hit.

The settlements being built in Judea and Samaria (a.k.a the cradle of ancient Jewish civilisation) are a witness to the hand of God at work with his people Israel in the latter days. This week, further building approvals in the Binyamin region remind us of that once again. 

The United States and Israel attacked Iran together on the 28th of February 2026. Within a week hundreds of targets were hit throughout Iran, killing thousands of IRGC personnel, including the supreme leader Ali Khamenei himself. Along with the military strikes, cyber attacks took over media organisations and telephones, broadcasting messages encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against their government.  It was clear that the strategy was regime change.

Isaiah 30:27, AV“27 Behold, the name of the LORD cometh from far, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire:”

On a visit to Israel earlier this year we were able to visit Sderot which sits on the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip. Sderot has experienced over 20,000 missile attacks since 2005 and faced continuous rocket fire from the Gaza Strip since 2001. The situation deteriorated after the “disengagement,” in 2005, when Israel under Ariel Sharon forced the Jewish residents of Gaza to leave their communities which were subsequently destroyed. Sderot was attacked on the infamous day of October the 7th, 2023. Terrorists broke through the security border fence there, penetrated the town of Sderot and occupied the police station. Near the border there is a small hill which provides a lookout into Gaza and over the town of Sderot. Next to the viewing platform is a new visitor center, named, “Israel survived to tell,” which relays the story of October the 7th. Indeed, Israel has “survived to tell,” time and again, since it was born as a nation and survived the onslaught of well equipped Arab armies in 1948. It survived in 1967, it survived in 1973, it survived two intifadas, terrorist attack after terrorist attack. It survived to tell the miracle of Israel.

Donald Trump has faced growing pressure from a loud minority both inside his administration and in his base to abandon Israel and the war on Iran. And it’s compounded by low polling numbers for the party in the upcoming midterm elections, economic pressure from the war, and real divide in his cabinet. 

Throughout this week, President Trump repeatedly called for 6 Arab States to join the Abraham Accords, stating it was mandatory. The US administration repeatedly insisted Iran will not get a nuclear weapon to destroy Israel with, which is in keeping with Bible Prophecy. The US is pushing to have the Gulf Nations join Israel in creating an unprecedented age of peace and prosperity in the region.  This is what the Bible indicates will ultimately be achieved:  Iran will survive to fight again, the Gulf States will form an alliance with the Merchant Powers of Tarshish, and peace will come to the region with the associated prosperity.  

A couple of weeks ago, many of the people of this Island went out to vote in the local elections. Local elections are typically a fairly boring part of politics, where local councillors are chosen across different regions of the country. Often, the party in power does badly, as people use their vote to voice frustration at the direction of government in Westminster. However, this year, the local elections were different. The reason they were different, was largely because of the meteoric rise of one man: Nigel Farage. 

The disruption of the global economy and stability is causing nations like Germany to shift from pacifist product production to military manufacturing. The Bible is clear that this is how things will unfold. Trump’s tariffs and threats to pull out of NATO are having a significant dual-impact on the German economy.

Hello and welcome to another Bible in the News.This week the world watched a remarkable scene: King Charles III addressing the United States Congress during his state visit to America. Nearly 250 years after American independence, a British monarch stood before American lawmakers and celebrated not division, but deep and enduring unity.For Bible students, the moment was striking - for in Ezekiel 38:13 we read:“Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil?”This prophetically places a nation called Tarshish, in the latter days (after Israel has been regathered to their land - Ezekiel 38:8), when a group of nations headed up by a character called Gog comes down against the mountains of Israel. When this event happens, the prophecies tell us it will herold the return of Jesus Christ to the earth who will establish God’s Kingdom.If Tarshish is Britain, then one of her clearest young lions is America. And this enduring bond is what we are witnessing this week - a sure sign of our times. 

 

The current crisis in the Middle East is beginning to disintegrate NATO. The nations of the 70-year-old alliance are pulling in different directions, causing it to tear apart. The Bible is clear about what alliances will exist in the latter days. In this Bible in the News, we examine the evidence the Bible gives for the direction things will inevitably go.

When people arrived at Ben Gurion airport in Israel after October 7, 2023, they were greeted by rows of posters displayed for each  of the 251 hostages taken to Gaza on that dreadful day along the entry hallway. When we recently arrived in Israel on January 26 there was only one remaining hostage poster for Ran Gvili, whose body had been held in Gaza for 843 days. His body was identified and returned to Israel on the day we arrived, January 26, 2026. After going through customs we headed for the airport train station to ascend up to Jerusalem. On the columns in the train station there were many stickers which were in memory of fallen soldiers. One sticker had just one word, “v’ahavta.” The word on the sticker had vowel pointing such as is generally only used in the Hebrew scriptures. It only appears 6 times in the scriptures, meaning, “and you shall love.” Passages such as Leviticus 19:18, “but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” Leviticus 19:34 "But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself.” Deuteronomy 6:5, "And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” That was the message of this memorial sticker.

Recent news reports suggest that events in the Middle East are reshaping the global balance of power in a way that students of Bible prophecy have long expected. Rising oil prices, war between Israel and Iran, and renewed Russian influence are combining to create a geopolitical picture that aligns remarkably well with the outline given in Scripture.Welcome to another Bible in the News.

On the 28th of February, last Saturday, the US and Israel launched airstrikes on major Iranian cities, including Tehran AND Isfahan among others. They targeted air defences, missile units and suspected nuclear weapons related facilities. The US have claimed to have hit nearly 3000 targets and destroyed 17 naval vessels. And most importantly of all, the supreme leader of Iran was killed in the initial strikes along with at least 40 other high ranking officials. Reports have come out over the past week of how traffic cameras in Tehran were hacked by Israel and used to track the movements of Khomanei in order to pinpoint his whereabouts before the strike. The Jerusalem Post has reported that in the full week of fighting, 6500 bombs have been dropped in Iran by the IDF.

Recent news reports show that Europe is preparing for greater military independence from the United States, raising the possibility of a significant shift in NATO’s structure. Bible prophecy in Ezekiel 38 and Revelation 17 describes a latter-day European confederacy aligned with a northern power identified with Russia, while Britain and the United States stand apart. These geopolitical developments represent steps toward the prophetic arrangement Scripture outlines.

Rising global tensions and the expiry of the START treaty have revived Cold-War-level fears of nuclear conflict, reflected in the Doomsday Clock moving closer to “midnight.” Geopolitical rivalry, especially over Greenland, is shifting global power dynamics, weakening alliances like NATO, and eroding the post-WWII “rules-based order.” Biblical prophecy assures us the world will not be destroyed by nuclear war, but Europe must be divorced from America and placed under Russian control.

This week the U.S military build up in the Middle East continued in what President Trump has described as an “armada” heading towards Iran.

Protests have spread over all of Iran, engulfing 340 places in all 31 provinces according to the UK Telegraph! Protesters are now being murdered by the regime in the hundreds if not thousands. There is danger that the security forces could turn against each other. An analysis by the Telegraph declares, "After 35 years of ruling Iran, Ali Khamenei is running out of options fast.” The protests are not about Israel or America, they were triggered by a collapsed currency, dire economic circumstances and complete mismanagement of the country in regards to the citizens' welfare.

As we enter 2026 the sea of the nations is roaring and casting up mire and dirt. On Friday night, in an audacious move, America took the dictator of Venezuela prisoner, over the last few days massive protests against the regime have surged up in Iran,  Israel recognized the new country of Somaliland, Yemen is becoming unstable and the war continues in Ukraine, with Russia advancing every day.

An overview of 2025It’s striking to recall that just last year, Joe Biden was still president, Iran had an intact nuclear program, Hamas held nearly 100 hostages, and Israel was actively at war in Gaza, with soldiers dying regularly. Israel’s home front also endured frequent Houthi missile attacks.

The terrorist attack at Australia’s Bondi Beach shocked the world this past week. Jews were gathering to celebrate Hanukkah when gunfire broke out. This event is not isolated but is a result of the call for a Global Intifada, which has been permitted in many Western countries. The Bible is clear that the Jews will return to the land, and many Jews living there are now calling for their dispersed brethren to return to the place God has appointed for them.

The spirit of Amalek is still alive very much today. The rise of America’s far-right is a testament to this fact. A war of ideas has been raging in the Republican Party - the party of conservatives in America. The traditionally pro-Israel consensus is being challenging by a much more sinister far-right, Orthodox Christian movement that certainly leans into the Amalekite spirit of Antisemitism.

A storm is brewing in the court of public opinion. As conflicts rage in the Middle East, Western media outlets - once regarded as pillars of neutrality and truth - are being exposed for what they are increasingly becoming: instruments of bias and ideological warfare. This trend is especially clear in coverage concerning the State of Israel.

We might imagine that if Iran were to collapse it might be a result of Israel winning the war against them or America bombing their nuclear site, or the international sanctions. However, these are not the greatest problems or threats to Iran and the regime. The greatest threat against Iran today is a lack of water. A severe drought combined with poor mismanagement of the country's water resources, have led to a crisis. A crisis so great that there is talk of having to move the population out of the capital city Tehran!

Jeremiah lists two phases to the return of the Jews to the land: the phase of fishers (the age of persuasion), and the phase of hunters, where they will be pushed by persecution. In this week’s Bible in the News, we see that the hunter phase is now becoming the reality that Jews of the diaspora are facing in everyday life.

This is Tim Billington joining you. We've seen culture wars in society around us and they're only heating up. We're seeing resurgence of religion. Young people are believing in God more than they did before. The woke left is not only getting worse but turning violent.

All the living hostages have now been returned to Israel. Delays over the Hamas terror group's return of deceased hostages, is causing the ceasefire to hang in the balance. Hamas has again shown their true colours with lynchings and torture of their own people within the Gaza strip. Trump has been able to unite a large portion of the oil rich Gulf States to get behind his ceasefire agreement, which is a large achievement and force Hamas to give up the hostages. Trump’s next step, is the expansion of the Abraham accords, which would bring peace and more prosperity to the region.

A fragile yet significant ceasefire has taken effect in the Gaza Strip, marking a pivotal development in the long and bitter conflict between Israel and Hamas. The agreement—brokered with the direct involvement of  U.S. President Donald Trump—has raised compelling questions among Bible students: Could this be the beginning of a period of peace in the land of Israel, as foretold in prophets of the Bible?Let us examine the geopolitical developments and consider their potential Biblical significance.

The world turned its back on Israel this past week, forgetting the atrocities of October 7th and decided to reward the terrorists of Hamas and the Palestinian Authority by recognizing a state. The Bible is clear that hatred of Israel would prevail in the end, and this madness would ultimately bring the nations down. In this week’s Bible in the News, we examine statements made by world leaders as they turn against Israel, and Israel’s response.

As we continue to watch the unfolding debate on free speech, following the assignation of Charlie Kirk, this week we turn our attention to the second state visit made by the US President to King Charles the III and the special relationship shared between the US and the UK. But, before we look at this, we will reflect on the purpose of Bible prophecy and why these things interest us.

There were two major events this last week, both related to the Bible, which at first may not seem to be connected. Not only do we find out that they are related, but we also find some important lessons and warnings for us.

The parallels between Israel’s return to the land the “second time” and the struggles Ezra and Nehemiah experienced in the “first” are amazing. The effort to “rebuild” according to the command of Almighty God cannot be thwarted, and regardless of the world’s campaign against Israel, God will continue to raise up Gentile Cyrus’s who will help Israel until his son returns.

Things are changing in the UK. In some ways, it feels like we are only one incident away from mass protests in the streets. 

This week, developments in the Middle East have once again drawn our attention to the prophetic Scriptures. Israel is escalating its military operations in Gaza City, while the region faces worsening famine and starvation.These events reflect the ongoing hostility from the Gaza Strip—the ancient territory of the Philistines—and speak to the latter-day prophecies concerning this region.

Here is a video presentation that exposes how media bias has given way to full scale propaganda, and how it fits in with the Bible.  There is a lot said about deception in the last days, we touch on a few spots.  The Catholic Church is deeply involved, but we focus on the fabrication of lies in Israel and Gaza, and how those lies are amplified by the media.

The war of dreamsEver since May 1948, when David Ben-Gurion read the declaration of the establishment of the State of Israel, there has been a war of dreams or a war of ideology taking place among the Jewish people in their land. 

 On October 6th, 2023, the eve of the October 7th attacks, Israel faced perhaps its most perilous strategic environment in half a century. Hamas was poised to launch its deadliest assault since the Yom Kippur War of 1973. To the north, Hezbollah boasted 100,000 trained fighters and an estimated arsenal of 120,000 missiles. Iran stood dominant, its nuclear weapons program advancing and its regional influence expanding, backed by the Houthis in Yemen, militias in Iraq, Assad in Syria, and its proxies in Gaza and Lebanon. This “Ring of Fire” encircled Israel, threatening overwhelming retaliation should it strike Iran’s nuclear facilities. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden was seen as a restraining force on any Israeli pre-emptive action.

This spirit of liberty, equality, and fraternity has instigated into the populace of the globe, not peace on earth, but the pride of man.

Glastonbury is a music festival in the UK held every year with a turnout of around 200,000 people. After the festival was held last week, one particular clip has been subject to huge amounts of criticism and scrutiny because of it’s clear antisemitism and incitement to violence.
