In this extra special non-Friday edition of Figure Friday, Doc Wyatt and Gavin Hignight of Wandering Planet Toys return to talk about their new Kickstarter campaign: Kolchak: The Night Stalker 1/12 Scale Collectible Figures! In this episode we discuss what make Carl Kolchak such a compelling protagonist, the film noir roots of the character, and Wandering Planet's secret action figure line shared universe that's been hiding in plain sight all along! You can back the campaign RIGHT HERE.And catch Gavin Hignight at the Indie Toy Makers Unite! panel during WonderCon 2026 on Saturday 3/26 in the Anaheim Convention Center (room 209) from 6-7 PM.It was 1970 when Jeff Rice, a novelist from Providence, Rhode Island (home of HP Lovecraft), created of one of the most enduring characters in weird fiction, the reporter known as CARL KOLCHAK. Kolchak was conceived in a novel originally entitled “The Kolchak Papers,” but made famous by a 1972 TV movie called THE NIGHT STALKER, a recording-breaking ratings smash. The film spawned a sequel, THE NIGHT STRANGLER, and a much beloved, but short-lived cult hit TV series, KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER. It all started on the seedy streets of 1970s Las Vegas and on the pages of Jeff Rice’s incredible crime novel that tip-toed into the supernatural. And yet with all the years of fandom, the series, the books and comic books, Carl Kolchak has never been explored in action figure form… until now!Wandering Planet Toys is proud to partner with Monstrous Books to present the FIRST EVER officially licensed KOLCHAK ACTION FIGURE. Presented as a 1/12 scale modern deluxe figure based on his character in the book, this figure features 22 points of articulation (similar to “Star Wars Black Series,” “Marvel Legends,” and “Project Monster Force” figures), interchangeable hands and accessories! Mike Love of The Beach Boys
In this episode of Biff Bam Pop! Presents! Andy Burns chats with the legendary Mike Love! From Andy: No band defines fun, fun, fun more than the one and only Beach Boys. For nearly 30 years, the band have been one of my all-time favourites; I love everything from the surf and car music they created back in 1961 through their amazing pop classics like their defining album Pet Sounds and their epic pocket symphony, “Good Vibrations.” And that is just for starters. Go listen to excellent albums like Sunflower and Surf’s Up, Love You and their likely final effort, That’s Why God Made The Radio. There’s so much beauty throughout their fantastic catalogue. The one constant in The Beach Boys for more than 60 years has been Mike Love, one of the group’s lead vocalists and co-songwriters. Working alongside his cousin Brian Wilson, Love had a massive hand in some of the most enduring songs ever. Love has been keepin’ the summer alive and the band on the road for decades, with the current iteration of the Beach Boys, which also feels longtime member Bruche Johnston, currently travelling across Canada for their Endless Summer Gold tour. This Tuesday, they hit London, Ontario, and play Mississauga, Ontario, on April 3. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
