Audio of the sermon is here: In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. There were lots of answers back then, and there are lots of answers now. When Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” He got the answers that were […]

  9. Offense Unto Life

Audio of the sermon is here: In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. I thought it was a fluke. It was about 11 years ago, not too long after I’d started in Washington. And a post came across my Twitter feed—it was still called Twitter […]

  10. The Church’s Story

Audio of the sermon is here: In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. If you wanted a story to narrate the Church, this section of Matthew 14 is pretty good. Stories can shape and form us more deeply than simple instructions or descriptions. Stories get […]

  11. Hidden Treasure

Audio of the sermon is here: In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. We’re going to have to get used to the treasure being hidden. We should know this; we’ve only had a couple millennia to learn it. But every generation has to learn it […]

  16. A Good Conscience

Audio of the sermon is here: People today seem to have no sense of right and wrong. Well, that’s not quite true. Nearly everyone has a firm conviction about what is right and wrong; they just can’t agree on it. Some people say this is right and this is wrong; others say that is right […]

  20. Why We Do What We Do: The Preparation

Audio of the sermon is here: In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Obviously, this is not where the sermon goes normally. When I was a child, I never heard—that I remember—anyone explain why we were doing what we did on a Sunday morning. It […]
