The Only Skincare Routine Black & Brown Skin Actually Needs

If your skincare routine has more than five products and your skin still is not where you want it, the problem may not be the products. It may be the architecture. Most people of colour were sold a stack of treatments to fix problems a properly built system would have prevented. In this episode we build the actual structure of a skincare routine for Black and Brown skin from the ground up. Every product you own is doing one of three jobs.Free routine guides at blackskinscience.com. Want your exact products reviewed and re-sequenced by formulators? The SPF Number Is Lying to You | Sunscreen Science for Black & Brown Skin

Most people choose sunscreen by one number: SPF. But SPF is essentially a sunburn stopwatch — it measures how long until your skin shows a visible reaction to UV, and that test was calibrated around a signal that is much quieter on darker skin. So the biggest number on the bottle tells you almost nothing about the damage that actually matters for melanin-rich skin.In this episode we read the back of the bottle instead of the front. We get into why UV is only about 5% of sunlight, what the other 95% — visible light and infrared heat — is doing to your collagen and firmness, and why "Black don't crack" is only half the story. We cover the SPF stopwatch and who the test was built for, the anti-aging and free radical claims sunscreen brands lean on, UVA vs UVB and the damage you accumulate without burning, the PA rating and UVA mark hiding in the small print, broad spectrum, iron oxides and tinted sunscreen for visible light protection, why Korean and Asian formulations often sit better on deep skin, and a simple back-of-bottle checklist for choosing sunscreen for Black skin.Free guides at blackskinscience.com.This content is for educational purposes only and does not replace professional medical advice. Is It Even Acne? | The Diagnosis Most Black Women Never Get

Is it even acne? If your routine has not worked in six months, there are only two possibilities. Either it is not acne. Or you are treating the wrong type of acne.Rosacea, fungal acne, closed comedones, and perioral dermatitis all look like acne on darker skin. Every month spent treating the wrong condition means more irritation, more inflammation, and more post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Today we start where most acne content never does. The diagnosis. From there, we break down the four root causes of real acne, excess sebum, abnormal shedding, C. acnes bacterial overgrowth, and the inflammation that triggers hyperpigmentation in melanin-rich skin specifically. Then the treatment ladder, from mild to moderate to severe, with the evidence for azelaic acid, salicylic acid, niacinamide, benzoyl peroxide, and adapalene for darker skin specifically. Where chemical peels actually belong in the journey. The biggest mistakes Black women make with acne routines. Barrier Damage in Black Skin | Stop Acne, Sensitivity & Dullness

If your skincare routine has stopped working — products stinging, skin getting oilier, dark spots returning despite treatment — the problem is almost certainly not the products. Ethnicity-Specific Hyperpigmentation Ingredients | What Works for Black & Brown Skin

Most hyperpigmentation guides were built on research that didn't center Black and Brown skin. The ingredient that works best for your dark spots depends partly on your ethnicity — and most skincare content never tells you that.In this episode we go through the evidence with that filter applied. Which ingredients have strong data for skin like ours. Which ones carry specific risks for darker skin that the research doesn't flag prominently. And the routine structure to use them without breaking your barrier in the process. If you haven't listened to Part 1 — The 3-Stage System — start there first. The ONE Science-Backed Rule for Dark Spots Every Black Woman Should Know | Hyperpigmentation routine

Hyperpigmentation on Black skin is not random. It follows a predictable three-stage biological chain reaction: Production, Transfer, and Deposition. Most routines fail because they only address one stage, leaving the "warehouse" full of pigment ready to move to the surface. In Part 1 of our hyperpigmentation series, we deconstruct the "Map" of a dark spot and provide the clinical framework needed to interrupt it.🎙️ Subscribe for Part 2: Where we dive into the clinical evidence of what works best for Black Skin.If you value the evidence-based approach of clinical channels like Doctorly, this show provides the specific scientific deep-dive required for Black skin.JOIN THE COMMUNITY: 📌 Follow us for weekly episodes. 💬 Leave a comment: What are you looking forward to the most and what else would you like us to cover?#Hyperpigmentation #Dermatology #SkincareScience #BlackSkinCare #cosmeticchemist Whether we are diving into dermatology, trichology, or demonstrating our latest AI skincare tools, our goal is simple: providing the scientific "manual" for our specific biology.CURRENT SERIES: The Black Skin Science Podcast⚠️ DisclaimerThis content is for educational purposes only and does not replace professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
