Trust vs. Avoidance: How Christians Confuse Spiritual Bypassing with Faith
Wrapping up the Ruthless Elimination of Hurry book club, Tatum shifts into a candid, personal conversation about the difference between genuine trust in God and avoidance dressed up as spirituality. Drawing from psychology, Scripture, and her own experience praying through her grandmother's stage-four cancer diagnosis, she unpacks how Christians — especially high-achieving entrepreneurs — often mistake "rushing to joy" for faith when it's really a defense mechanism keeping them from real intimacy with God.What's CoveredA book club update: The group has finished The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry and is moving toward a business-focused pick next, with Great CEOs Are Lazy under consideration as a way to explore building a business from sustainability rather than hustle culture. The spiritualizing of avoidance: Why avoidance is one of the most socially acceptable defense mechanisms in Christian culture, often hiding behind phrases like "God's got me" or "I'm not sad, the joy of the Lord is my strength."A personal story: How Tatum navigated her grandmother's 90-day cancer prognosis, the shift in her prayers from demanding a specific outcome to surrendering the outcome entirely, and what that taught her about the difference between avoidance and trust. The psychology of avoidance: A look at "experiential avoidance" — the attempt to escape or numb uncomfortable emotions — and the research linking it to anxiety, depression, and other forms of psychological distress.Avoidance in entrepreneurship: How uncertainty, a core ingredient of faith, gets treated as a threat — leading business owners to quietly override God's specific instructions with their own "safer," more marketable plans.Root causes of avoidance: Fear, shame, the desire for control, and unprocessed pain, and how each shows up in decision-making, dating, finances, and launching a business.Signs you're avoiding rather than trusting: Refusing to face the worst-case scenario, and praying only for a fix rather than for comfort and wisdom.A practical reframe: The question Tatum returns to again and again — both for herself and for others — "Do you have to do anything?"Key TakeawaysAvoidance offers temporary relief but blocks growth, resilience, and closeness with God; trust requires sitting with the discomfort instead of rushing past it.Faith is not the absence of uncertainty — uncertainty is built into the definition of faith itself.Facing a worst-case scenario isn't inviting it to happen; it's being honest about what's driving your emotions so you can bring it to God fully.Disappointment and trust can coexist. Being able to feel disappointed while still saying "not my will, but yours" is a marker of spiritual maturity, not a lack of faith.Avoidance often looks like wisdom, planning, and having it all together — which is exactly why it goes unchecked in high achievers. Our Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp and use my code betterhelp.com for a great deal: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out NetSuite and use my code netsuite.ai/BLESSED for a great deal: https://www.netsuite.com* Check out Super.com and use my code super.com/credit for a great deal: https://super.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Why God Won't Show You the Whole Plan (And Why That's a Good Thing)
This episode wraps up the book club discussion of The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry with the remaining ten practices for slowing down, plus a personal, unscripted reflection on trusting God through uncertainty. The episode opens with a raw moment about navigating law school as a non-traditional student, including a candid conversation with God about wanting to see the bigger picture before feeling secure in obedience. The takeaway: God often withholds the full plan on purpose, not to withhold comfort, but to keep us dependent on Him rather than on our own self-sufficiency.From there, the conversation returns to the list of 20 practices for slowing down, picking up at number 11 and continuing through number 20. Topics include setting boundaries around email and social media, the debate over cutting out television entirely, the case for single-tasking over multitasking, taking a regular day of silence and solitude, journaling, mindfulness and meditation through a Christian lens, taking real vacations, and the value of slowing down around food, whether that means cooking at home or being intentional while eating out.The episode closes out the book club pick with a reflection on the book's epilogue and an open question about what to read next.Key HighlightsA personal reflection on asking God for the "big picture" and what He said in responseWhy God sometimes keeps the full plan hidden, even when you are being obedientPractices 11 through 20 for slowing down, including thoughts on which ones felt useful and which felt overly rigidA respectful disagreement with the author's stance on cutting out TV entirelyWhy single-tasking, not multitasking, is the one non-negotiable on the listThe value of a monthly day of silence and solitude, and a smaller, more realistic version of itMindfulness and meditation reframed through scripture rather than secular practiceClosing thoughts on the book's epilogue and an open call for the next book club pickOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp and use my code betterhelp.com for a great deal: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out NetSuite and use my code netsuite.ai/BLESSED for a great deal: https://www.netsuite.com* Check out Super.com and use my code super.com/credit for a great deal: https://super.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

How to Be Ambitious and Content at the Same Time as a Christian Entrepreneur
This episode wraps up the discussion on simplicity and moves into the fourth and final practice of unhurried living: slowing. Before diving in, the episode opens with a personal reflection on what it looked like to actually live this out — a season of downsizing a business, laying off a team, and trusting God's call to slow down even when it made no practical sense. From there, the conversation shifts to contentment — specifically the way Paul uses "I can do all things through Christ" in Philippians, not as a battle cry for achievement, but as a testimony about being at peace in any circumstance. Contentment is framed not as the absence of ambition, but as the ability to hold desire without striving — checking with God before chasing the next opportunity rather than figuring it out on your own.The episode then moves into the author's 20 practical tips for slowing down, covering the first ten. The list centers heavily on driving habits and phone use — driving the speed limit, arriving early without your phone, and intentionally creating a "dumb phone" experience by removing notifications, social media, and email. Several tips are reflected on personally, including changes made to phone settings after reading the chapter.Key HighlightsWhat it actually looked like to obey God's call to slow down in the middle of a business crisisThe difference between toxic ambition and healthy drive — and how healing changes what you are chasing and whyContentment as restraint, not passivity — wanting more while still being at peace with where you areReading Ecclesiastes as a practical starting point for anyone who wants to pray for contentmentThe first 10 of 20 practical tips for slowing down, with honest reactions to eachA personal phone audit — which notifications stayed, which were deleted, and whyProducts Available — Moving Sale!Tatum is moving and has a limited number of physical resources available for just $5 each (+ shipping — total order stays under $10). Money and Minimalism
In this episode, we continue our discussion of John Mark Comer's book The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry, picking up with his chapter on simplicity and money.Episode OverviewThis episode covers Comer's chapter on simplicity, including his take on Jesus' teachings about money, the practice of minimalism, and 12 principles for simpler living. The episode also includes a running critique of where the author's analysis of wealth falls short.Key Discussion PointsOn Jesus and moneyComer argues that roughly 25% of Jesus' teachings address money and possessions, and that nearly none of them are positive toward wealth accumulation. He connects three short teachings from Matthew 6 — on storing treasures in heaven, the lamp of the body, and serving two masters — to one long teaching on worry, making the case that what we worship, we worry about. The episode pushes back on this framing. Jesus' statements like "it is more blessed to give than to receive" and "you cannot serve both God and money" are not condemnations of wealth itself. They are observations about the condition of the heart. Money funds generosity, finances kingdom work, and creates the margin to serve others well. The issue is not wealth but what wealth does to a person's heart when it becomes their source of identity or security.A personal example: being a landlord to a tenant facing breast cancer and financial hardship. Having financial margin allowed for grace — accepting late or partial payments, covering the mortgage independently — in a way that would not have been possible otherwise. That is wealth functioning as a tool for kingdom living. On the author's frameworkComer eventually acknowledges the tension — noting that Jesus was supported by wealthy donors, had disciples manage a budget, and shared meals with rich friends — but does not spend enough time there. The scriptures he cites actually contain the nuance he underexplores. When someone uses scripture primarily to validate a point already formed, rather than letting scripture shape the point, it is worth noticing. That pattern reveals a lot about how a person is operating, even if unintentionally. What minimalism actually is (and is not)Comer offers several clarifications:It is not a design aesthetic or a style preference. It is not poverty or living without enjoyment. It is not organizing your stuff — if you have so much that it requires organizing, labeling, and boxing, you likely have too much.Minimalism is the intentional promotion of what you value most and the removal of what distracts from it. It applies not just to possessions but to time, mental load, and the condition of the heart. Hurry is not only a physical state — it is a condition of the mind.Comer's 12 Principles for Simple LivingBefore buying, consider the true cost — maintenance, time, insurance, and what it will do to the pace of your life. Before buying, ask whether the purchase harms the poor or the earth. The garment industry is a direct example: in the 1960s, 95% of American clothing was made in the U.S.; today it is 2%, often produced under exploitative conditions.(Covered within principle 2 — the ethics of globalized manufacturing.)When you do buy, opt for fewer, better things. Buy it once. When you can, share. Community and the sharing economy reduce the need to own.Get into the habit of giving things away. Generosity is both practical and life-giving. Personal example: passing along baby clothes and supplies within community, and using the school's used uniform shop to outfit a child for a fraction of retail cost.Live by a budget. In a culture that glorifies frivolous spending, budgeting is a form of good stewardship. Enjoyment belongs in the budget — but so does discipline.Learn to enjoy things without owning them. Parks, libraries, coffee shops, and natural spaces are available to everyone.Cultivate a deep appreciation for creation.Cultivate a deep appreciation for simple pleasures.Recognize advertising for what it is. (Partial disagreement here: advertising is not propaganda or lying — there are laws against false advertising. The more accurate takeaway is to be intentional about not purchasing what you do not actually need.)Lead a cheerful revolt against materialism. Actively and joyfully reject the pull toward accumulation.Scripture ReferencedMatthew 6 (Sermon on the Mount — storing treasures, the lamp of the body, serving two masters, and do not worry)1 Timothy 6:17-19 (Paul's command to the rich in Ephesus)Connect and ShareLeave a comment on Spotify, share this episode, or send an email with your thoughts — especially your perspective on the critique of how wealth and money were framed throughout this chapter.Products Available — Moving Sale!Tatum is moving and has a limited number of physical resources available for just $5 each (+ shipping — total order stays under $10). How Simplicity Can Free You From Hurry
In this episode, we continue our journey through The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer, diving into the third principle of unhurried living: simplicity. Before getting into the chapter, there is a quick reminder about the moving sale — physical copies of the God Is My CEO Prayer Journal, the podcast planner, and She Is Uncompromising are still available for just $5 each plus shipping. Orders of 10 or more ship free. Links are in the show notes. The episode opens with a reflection on Sabbath practices from last week's discussion, including a practical tip for using AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude to generate hobby ideas that align with rest and worship — not work. From floral arranging to crafting custom tea blends, the goal is finding activities that slow you down and reconnect you with the beauty of God's creation. The heart of the episode centers on what the author calls the "gospel of America" — the cultural belief that life's meaning is found in accumulation and consumption. Drawing on Jesus' own words about wealth, greed, and the deceitfulness of riches, listeners are challenged to honestly examine whether they would follow God even if success never looked the way they envisioned. The episode also takes a critical look at the history of American consumerism, the rise of lifestyle marketing and influencer culture, and the very real spiritual danger of allowing things — cars, clothes, brands, and clout — to become identity markers.A Princeton study by Kahneman and Deaton, originally placing the happiness income threshold at $75,000 (approximately $108,500 in today's dollars), sparks a candid pushback: money is not the problem when it is used to buy freedom, experiences, and time rather than stuff. The episode challenges the author's framing while affirming his core point — the relentless accumulation of things accelerates hurry and pulls us away from the unhurried life Jesus modeled. The episode wraps before the chapter's 12 practical tips on simplicity, which will be covered in the next episode.Key HighlightsMoving sale is still active — prayer journals, podcast planner, and more available for $5 each; orders of 10 or more ship freeUsing AI tools to brainstorm Sabbath-friendly hobbies that cannot be turned into a businessThe "gospel of America" — how consumerism has replaced religion as the dominant system of meaning in Western cultureA hard introspective question: would you still follow God if your business never produced the results on your vision board? The history of how corporate America deliberately engineered a culture of consumption after World War IIA challenge to Christian content creators who promote products to examine whether that activity contributes to consumerismThe $75,000 happiness study — published in 2010, equivalent to roughly $108,500 today — and why a fixed happiness ceiling is worth questioningThe distinction between spending money on stuff versus spending money on freedom, time, and experiencesNext episode: the remaining half of the simplicity chapter, including 12 practical tips from the authorProducts Available — Moving Sale!Tatum is moving and has a limited number of physical resources available for just $5 each (+ shipping — total order stays under $10). The Sabbath
We're continuing our book club series on The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer, and this week we're diving into Part Three — the how of living an unhurried life. After covering silence and solitude last episode, today we go deep on one of the most underrated and underused spiritual practices in Christian spaces: the Sabbath. But first — Tatum shares a raw and beautiful testimony from her quiet time this week, a moment on the floor in her daughter's room that turned into a soul-restoring encounter with the Father. She also gets real about a revelation she received for Christian entrepreneurs: the difference between your working relationship with God and your personal relationship with Him — and why both matter. In This EpisodeTestimony: What happened when Tatum lay on the floor, didn't know what to pray, and started speaking in tongues — and why she bawled her eyes outThe working relationship vs. the personal relationship with God — a word for veteran Christian entrepreneurs who have the rhythm down but may be missing the closenessThe YouTube plan she shelved — and why she chose the Father over the planWhat is the Sabbath? It's a spirit of restfulness that goes with you throughout your week. A way of living with ease, gratitude, appreciation, peace, and prayer. A way of bearing fruit from abiding and not ambition." — John Mark Comer, The Ruthless Elimination of HurryTatum's Word for Christian EntrepreneursAs you grow in doing business God's way, don't let the working relationship replace the personal one. You can be in rhythm with God in your business and still have a void in your closeness to Him as His daughter. Tend to both. Silence + Solitude
In this deeply personal episode of Blessed and Bossed Up, Tatum returns after finals season to continue the book club series on The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer. This conversation explores the first practice for “unhurrying” your life: silence and solitude. From motherhood and entrepreneurship to law school and spiritual formation, Tatum shares how busyness, noise, and constant stimulation can quietly disconnect us from the presence of God — and how reclaiming moments of stillness can transform our spiritual, emotional, and mental well-being.She unpacks:Why boredom used to be a giftHow technology keeps us spiritually distractedLearning to practice God’s presence in everyday momentsWhy the wilderness is not weakness, but strengthThe difference between solitude and isolationHow internal noise impacts peace, anxiety, and emotional healthWhy silence is essential for healing, clarity, and abiding in ChristThis episode is both a conviction and an invitation: to slow down, reconnect with God, and create rhythms that cultivate peace instead of chaos.Key TakeawaysBoredom Was Once SacredBefore smartphones and endless stimulation, boredom created space for creativity, imagination, reflection, and connection. Today, we often fill every quiet moment with scrolling, entertainment, or mental noise — missing opportunities to connect with God.God Is Present Beyond the Prayer ClosetTatum reflects on a revelation that changed her relationship with God: His presence isn’t confined to designated “quiet times.” Through the Holy Spirit, God is present while washing dishes, driving, making coffee, or watching children play. The Wilderness Is a Place of StrengthReferencing Jesus in the wilderness, this episode reframes difficult seasons not as punishment or weakness, but as places where God’s strength is revealed most powerfully.Silence Is More Than External QuietTrue silence includes:External silence (turning off noise and distractions)Internal silence (quieting worry, fantasies, overthinking, anxiety, and mental chatter)Solitude Is HealingSolitude is not isolation. Sober Living
Tatum is in the trenches of her first-year law school finals, so this week she's bringing back one of her most foundational episodes — and as she always says, when an oldie comes back around, trust that the Lord is bringing it back for a reason. Whether you've heard it before or this is your first time, this one is worth sitting with.In this episode, Tatum opens up about the early years of making God the CEO of her business and introduces a new series focused on the application of faith-driven entrepreneurship — not just the information, but the lived practice. Before diving into strategy, marketing, or business plans, she makes the case that we have to start with sobriety: freeing ourselves from the influences, distractions, and cultural pressures that pull our focus away from the Lord and onto the metrics of the world. In this episode, Tatum covers:Why sobriety is the non-negotiable foundation before any business building can beginThe story of how obedience during a season of stripping and pruning led to her most fruitful breakthroughsThe moment she hit her first six-figure year — and why her reaction to it changed everythingHow entrepreneurship can become its own kind of intoxicationA word for anyone being called to pioneer something new, even when it feels lonely and irrationalThe 5 Substances to Detox From:Success culture and performance pressureDigital noise and comparisonMixed mentorshipMaterialism and metrics-based validationOver-independenceScriptures Referenced:1 Peter 5:81 Thessalonians 5:6–8Mark 14:38Action Step: Download the free Clarity Cleanse guide (linked in show notes) — a month-long detox plan with weekly focus areas, scriptures, action steps, and prayer points to help you build the sober, focused foundation your business needs.Join the Society — Tatum's membership community for Christian women growing in life, faith, and business. How to Stop Rushing: Jesus, the Rule of Life & Building Margin
In this episode, we continue our book club series on The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer, wrapping up the final chapter of Part Two and covering the intermission that sets the stage for Part Three. We open with one of the most convicting observations in the book: Jesus was rarely — if ever — in a hurry. Through stories like the raising of Lazarus and the healing of Jairus's daughter, the author paints a picture of a Savior who was fiercely present, completely unhurried, and never agitated by interruption. That kind of peace has a name we hear a lot today: a regulated central nervous system. In this episode, we break down what that actually means, share some eye-opening data about how many of us are functioning in a state of chronic stress, and then make the case that Jesus didn't just model a regulated nervous system — He modeled something that surpasses the very standard modern science is striving toward. We then dig into the concept of margin — the space between your load and your limits — and get practical about what it looks like to actually build it into your life. From contingency planning and backup childcare to protecting your mornings and setting an evening shutdown time, this episode gets real about what margin looks like for busy women wearing multiple hats. From there, we explore the trellis metaphor: just as a trellis gives a vine the structure it needs to grow and bear fruit, a rule of life gives your walk with Jesus the structure it needs to actually take root. We talk about why Jesus must be the center — not career, not motherhood, not success — and how the structures we build either support or undermine that priority. We close out with the intermission from the book, which sets up Part Three by distinguishing between discipline and spiritual discipline — and why the latter gives you access to a power that willpower alone simply cannot reach. In this episode:Why Jesus is the ultimate example of a regulated nervous system (and then some)What nervous system dysregulation actually looks like — and the stats that prove it's a public health issueThe difference between a full schedule and a hurried oneHow to create a contingency plan so that life's interruptions don't blow up your whole weekWhat a "rule of life" is and why it started in the monastery, not Silicon ValleyThe trellis metaphor and why structure isn't the enemy of freedom — it's the path to itHow to approach the four Gospels the same way you'd read a biography of someone you admireWillpower vs. spiritual discipline: why one gets you so far and the other gets you to Jesus📖 The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer — grab your copyOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp and use my code betterhelp.com for a great deal: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out NetSuite and use my code netsuite.ai/BLESSED for a great deal: https://www.netsuite.com* Check out Super.com and use my code super.com/credit for a great deal: https://super.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

A Call for Godly Ambition
In this episode, Tatum unpacks the difference between selfish ambition and godly ambition, challenging listeners to examine not just what they are pursuing, but why. Through personal reflection, biblical teaching, and practical examples, she reveals how easy it is to drift into misalignment—even with good intentions. This conversation calls you into deeper self-awareness, Spirit-led decision-making, and true wholeness, emphasizing that sustainable success in both life and business must be rooted in God.Key TakeawaysAmbition itself is not wrong, but its source determines whether it is aligned with God.Self-awareness is critical for identifying the true motivations behind your goals.External success can hide internal misalignment.Godly ambition is led by the Holy Spirit, not by outcomes, validation, or trends.Your definition of success will evolve as you grow in faith and maturity.True alignment requires healing from the brokenness that often drives achievement.Scriptures ReferencedPhilippians 2:3 (ESV): Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.James 3:13–16: A warning against selfish ambition, describing it as earthly and leading to disorder.Galatians 5:22–23: The fruit of the Spirit as evidence of a Spirit-led life. What is Selfish Ambition?Selfish ambition is a drive rooted in:EgoPrideComparisonControlBrokennessDesire for validationIt is not always obvious. It can begin with good intentions but becomes misaligned when God is no longer the source. What is Godly Ambition?Godly ambition is:Spirit-ledRooted in obedienceFocused on serving God and othersCentered on bringing God glory rather than personal recognitionThe defining factor is what is driving your decisions: the Holy Spirit or your desire for results. The Subtle Shift from Godly to Selfish AmbitionA key example shared in the episode illustrates how this shift can happen:You begin in obedience and full dependence on GodYou experience growth and positive resultsResults slow down or declineYou begin seeking external solutions (trends, algorithms, validation)Your source shifts from God to performanceThis shift is often gradual and difficult to detect without intentional self-examination.How to Course CorrectWhen you feel frustrated or see changes in results:Pause instead of reacting impulsivelyTake your emotions to God honestlyAsk:Did I get off track? Is there something you want me to change?Wait for His responseObey, whether He says to adjust or remain consistentThe goal is to remain aligned with God, not to chase outcomes. The Root Issue: BrokennessMany forms of ambition are driven by unresolved issues such as:A need for validationFear of lack or instabilityDesire for controlPast wounds or traumaWithout healing, it becomes difficult to sustain a God-centered approach to success.Measuring Your Motivation: The Fruit of the SpiritUse the fruit of the Spirit as a diagnostic tool:LoveJoyPeacePatienceKindnessGoodnessFaithfulnessGentlenessSelf-controlIf these are absent in your process or decision-making, it may indicate misalignment.Action Step: Fast and SurrenderTatum encourages listeners to:Fast from 6 AM to 6 PM (if medically able)Spend intentional time with GodBe honest about fears, control, and disappointmentInvite God to address the root causes of misalignmentThis is not about behavior modification but heart transformation.Reflection QuestionsWhat is driving my ambition right now?Am I seeking God’s approval or external validation?Where have I prioritized outcomes over obedience? What unresolved issues may be influencing my goals?Final EncouragementGod is not focused on your performance—He is focused on your heart.Seasons of slowing down, stagnation, or even decline are not punishment. They are often invitations to return to alignment, deepen intimacy with God, and rebuild from a place of wholenessOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp and use my code betterhelp.com for a great deal: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out NetSuite and use my code netsuite.ai/BLESSED for a great deal: https://www.netsuite.com* Check out Super.com and use my code super.com/credit for a great deal: https://super.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Come back home.6. Why Rest Feels Unproductive (But Isn’t)
In this episode of Blessed + Bossed Up, we continue the book club discussion of The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer, exploring chapters 2 and 3. Tatum dives into the history of speed in modern culture and how technological advancement, shifting cultural values, and the rise of the attention economy have created a lifestyle of chronic busyness. From alarm clocks and the invention of the light bulb to smartphones and social media platforms, we unpack how the modern world has conditioned us to move faster, do more, and measure productivity by output rather than spiritual depth. But what is the real cost of this constant hurry? This episode challenges Christian entrepreneurs and busy believers to reconsider their definition of productivity, confront the hidden addiction to digital devices, and examine whether busyness is crowding out intimacy with God.If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, constantly rushed, or spiritually disconnected despite being productive, this conversation will help you recognize the deeper root of the problem—and prepare you for the solutions coming in the next episode. In This Episode We DiscussWhy hurry is considered the greatest enemy of the spiritual lifeThe historical shift from natural rhythms to artificial schedulesHow the invention of the light bulb and industrial work culture changed sleep and productivityThe cultural shift from leisure as wealth to busyness as statusThe decline of Sabbath practices in modern societyHow the digital age and smartphones fuel distraction and addictionThe psychology behind the attention economyThe concept of “hurry sickness” and its symptomsHow constant busyness can damage our spiritual healthWhy redefining productivity is essential for believersKey Takeaways1. Modern life is built around speed—not soul care. Historically, people lived according to natural rhythms—waking with the sun and resting after sunset. Today, alarm clocks, work schedules, and digital connectivity push us into an artificial pace that our bodies and spirits were never designed for.2. Busyness has become a status symbol. Where wealth once meant leisure and rest, modern culture celebrates packed calendars, long work hours, and constant productivity.3. Technology competes for your attention. Smartphones and social media platforms are intentionally designed to capture and keep your attention through dopamine-driven feedback loops.4. Hurry isn’t just stressful—it’s spiritual. When our lives move too quickly, we lose the space required for reflection, prayer, and genuine connection with God.5. Many of us are experiencing “hurry sickness.” This condition describes the constant feeling of being rushed, anxious about time, and trying to accomplish more in less time.Reflection QuestionsTake a moment to sit with these questions:Do you feel most productive only when you’re accomplishing tasks?Do you struggle to rest without feeling lazy or unproductive?Has busyness replaced intentional time with God?Could your pace of life be preventing you from hearing God clearly?Community Challenge: Digital SabbathThe episode proposes a powerful challenge inspired by the book:Turn off your phone for 24 hours.A digital Sabbath allows you to:Reset your mindBreak compulsive phone habitsCreate space for rest and spiritual reflectionConsider trying this with the Blessed + Bossed Up community and observe what shifts in your awareness and connection with God.What’s Coming NextThis episode focuses on diagnosing the problem of hurry. In the next episode, we’ll begin exploring the practical solutions John Mark Comer presents for slowing down and restoring spiritual health in a fast-paced world.Resources MentionedThe Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer: https://amzn.to/4aSvzqlOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp and use my code betterhelp.com for a great deal: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out NetSuite and use my code netsuite.ai/BLESSED for a great deal: https://www.netsuite.com* Check out Super.com and use my code super.com/credit for a great deal: https://super.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

How Busyness Is Hurting Your Spiritual Life
In this episode of Blessed + Bossed Up, Tatum kicks off the next book club series: The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer. https://amzn.to/4c9jPAKThis national bestseller, with over one million copies sold, presents a compelling spiritual and emotional case against hurry and challenges the culture of busyness that defines modern life. For ambitious women balancing business, motherhood, marriage, leadership, and personal growth, this conversation is both timely and necessary.Although originally planning to wait until after midterms, Tatum began rereading this book sooner because she recognized subtle signs of internal hurry resurfacing in her own life. This episode is not just a book discussion—it is a personal reset and an invitation for listeners to do the same.In this episode, she explores:Why high-achieving women are especially vulnerable to chronic overloadWhat current research reveals about women, stress, burnout, and time povertyHow busyness impacts cortisol levels, sleep, hormonal balance, and long-term healthThe invisible mental load many women carry dailyThe tension between ambition and contentmentWhy hurry is incompatible with love, joy, and peaceThe foundational question raised in the book: Who am I becoming?Drawing from both the book and her own experience in therapy, Tatum also shares practical tools that help interrupt internal hurry, including:Creating intentional transition time between responsibilitiesPracticing single-tasking instead of multitaskingScheduling real lunch breaks without scrollingGrounding exercises to regulate the nervous systemPausing in moments of rush to return to presenceOne of the central themes discussed in this episode is the idea that hurry is not merely a productivity issue—it is a spiritual formation issue. As the book argues, love, joy, and peace are core characteristics of apprenticeship to Jesus. Yet all three are incompatible with a life lived in constant speed. Presence is required for love. Stillness is required for joy. Margin is required for peace.Tatum challenges listeners to reflect deeply:Who are they becoming if nothing changes?Has hurry negatively impacted their marriage, parenting, friendships, or worship? Are they rushing toward a version of success they may not even like?Where has busyness quietly replaced intimacy with God?This episode also addresses a sobering reality: many Christians are not in danger of renouncing their faith—but of settling for a distracted, shallow version of it.The invitation is clear: eliminate hurry before it eliminates depth.Listeners are encouraged to grab a copy of The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry and follow along as the book club continues in the next episode.Because building a successful life should never come at the cost of the soul.If this episode resonates, share it with another ambitious woman who needs permission—and accountability—to slow down.Tune in next week as the discussion continues.

AI & the Christian Entrepreneur
In this episode of Blessed + Bossed Up, we’re having a sober, faith-centered conversation about artificial intelligence—what it is, how it already shows up in daily life, and how Christian entrepreneurs should engage with it wisely. What AI Is (and why you’re already using it)AI is software trained on data to predict, recommend, recognize, or generate without being told every step. It’s embedded in:Google search suggestionsAutocorrect and text predictionYouTube/Netflix/Spotify recommendationsBanking fraud alertsEmail spam filters and inbox sortingFace ID, photo tagging, voice-to-textAI isn’t just ChatGPT—and it’s here to stay. The tension people feelMany people want AI’s benefits but feel cautious about trust, jobs, privacy, and misinformation. Others either avoid it completely or rely on it too heavily. The core boundary for believersUse AI for labor, not revelation. Don’t use AI to interpret scripture, replace prayer, or seek direction for what God told you to build. Use it for support work—drafting, organizing, brainstorming, or saving time—without replacing dependence on the Holy Spirit. AI can easily become an idol because it’s designed to learn you and feed you what you want. Why this is good news for entrepreneursAs AI content becomes overly polished, the market is shifting toward authentic, human-led content. People want real stories, real connection, and less perfection—meaning you don’t need “TV-level” production to show up and stand out.Practical ways to use AI wiselyDraft captions, emails, descriptions, SEORepurpose audio/video into clipsCreate basic graphics aligned to a brand guideAutomate simple customer support/FAQsStreamline admin and back-office tasksKeep the human connection: respond, engage, and make sure your voice stays present.Closing encouragementNow is a great time to launch what God called you to—without perfection—while using AI as a tool with wisdom, restraint, and spiritual discernment.

Neutrality, Wisdom & Walking in the Spirit
In the previous episode, we were supposed to wrap up The Spirit-Filled Life by Charles Stanley. After waking up at 3 a.m. to record a full 57-minute episode, the final 17 minutes didn’t save. Rather than end abruptly, this episode finishes the discussion properly. We conclude our book club conversation by examining two final spiritual markers of the Spirit-filled life:The Word of GodWisdomWe also prepare for our next book club selection: The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer. We will begin in about two weeks after midterms, so go ahead and grab your copy now.Marker #3: The Word of GodCharles Stanley outlines three key reading principles that help believers live a Spirit-filled life.1. Look for Principles, Not Just PromisesMany believers are promise-centered, always searching for what God will do for them. But principles are more powerful for decision-making.A principle works like an equation:If you do A, expect B.If you ignore A, expect C.When you consistently study the Word, those principles become ingrained. You won’t need to pause life to search for answers. The Holy Spirit will bring truth to your mind in real time. For Christian entrepreneurs especially, this is critical. You must be able to:Make decisions quicklyMaintain spiritual accuracyMove without paralysisThat kind of discernment only comes when the Word is already in you.2. Read with Context — Remain NeutralOne of the most important themes of this episode is neutrality.Do not approach Scripture trying to get something out of it. Approach it to know Him.In an age of algorithms constantly feeding us what we already want to see, neutrality is difficult. But it is essential. Otherwise, we risk:Confusing digital marketing for confirmationConfusing algorithms for the Holy SpiritReading our desires into the text instead of receiving what it actually saysWhen you read neutrally, you allow the Word to confront you instead of you manipulating it to support what you already want.Neutrality produces peace, clarity, sensitivity, and maturity. If you approach Scripture asking, “How can I get God to work for me?” you will miss it.When you approach asking, “How can I be closer to Him?” everything changes.3. Look for General PromisesThere are promises given to all believers for all time, including:Jesus’ promise not to leave us as orphans (John 14:18)Grace and mercy when we approach God (Hebrews 4:16)Strength for the weary (Isaiah 40:31)While God still speaks, He has already spoken extensively through Scripture. Personal revelation should always be filtered through biblical truth.Approaching the Word strictly from a mystical or subjective lens is dangerous. Spiritual maturity requires emotional maturity, restraint, and accountability.Marker #4: WisdomThe final spiritual marker of a Spirit-filled life is wisdom. The defining question: What is the wise thing for me to do?Wisdom exposes hidden motives. It shines light on greed, selfishness, pride, and lust.Wisdom goes beyond right and wrong.Something may not be sinful — but it may still not be wise. The Holy Spirit does not merely pull us away from sin. He keeps us far from the edge.Walking in WisdomExamples discussed in this episode include:Disengaging instead of escalating when triggeredAvoiding environments that may not be sinful but are not wiseListening to internal promptings before temptation escalatesLeaving a social setting when wisdom says it is time to goThe Spirit-filled life is not about seeing how close you can get to the line without crossing it. It is about walking wisely and staying far from the brink. The Three-Dimensional Wisdom QuestionWhen making decisions, ask:What is the wise thing to do in light of my past experience? What is the wise thing to do in light of my present situation? What is the wise thing to do in light of my future hopes and calling? The Holy Spirit takes into account your history, your vulnerabilities, and your destiny. When He prompts you, it is for protection.Ignoring wisdom can have lasting consequences.Final ChargeIf you are not reading your Bible daily, start now.Buy a translation you understand. Read a little every day.Through daily reading, you give the Holy Spirit access to your mind and heart — access necessary for transformation.Next Book Club PickThe Ruthless Elimination of Hurry – John Mark ComerWe will begin in approximately two weeks. The Bible is not just a collection of stories—it is the Holy Spirit’s thoughts on paper. Train Your Spirit Before the Test Comes
In this episode, Tatum shares a timely message about building spiritual muscle memory—the discipline of training your spirit to respond automatically to God, especially in seasons of pressure, warfare, and transition.Just as physical muscle memory develops through consistent repetition, spiritual muscle memory develops through daily prayer, studying the Word, obedience, and intentional separation from environments that weaken your spiritual strength. This episode serves as both an encouragement and a call to action for those who know they are being stretched, tested, and prepared for greater responsibility. Tatum explains why spiritual consistency—not emotional intensity—is what sustains you through seasons of elevation and opposition. If you have been feeling pressure in multiple areas of your life, this episode will help you understand what is happening, how to respond, and how to strengthen your spiritual posture so you can stand firm in what God has called you to do.In This Episode, You’ll Learn:What spiritual muscle memory is and why it mattersWhy spiritual disciplines must become automatic, not occasionalHow consistent prayer strengthens your spiritual resilienceThe difference between repetition and quality repetition in spiritual growthWhy studying and understanding scripture deeply increases its effectiveness in your lifeHow environments and habits can either strengthen or weaken your spiritual positionThe importance of accountability in maintaining spiritual disciplineHow to proactively prepare for seasons of elevation and oppositionKey Concepts DiscussedSpiritual Muscle Memory Training your spirit to respond to God automatically through consistent prayer, scripture study, and obedience.Quality Repetition Not just hearing the Word, but studying it, writing it down, understanding it, and applying it so it becomes embedded within you.Proactive Spiritual Discipline Building strength before crisis occurs so your response is rooted in truth, not emotion.Separation and Protection Removing yourself from environments and habits that weaken your spiritual clarity and authority.Accountability and Spiritual Covering Strengthening your spiritual consistency through prayer partnerships and community.Scripture ReferencedEphesians 6:13–17 — The Armor of GodJames 5:16 — “The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.”Ephesians 6:12 — Spiritual warfare is not against flesh and bloodPractical Ways to Build Spiritual Muscle MemoryPray daily and consistentlyStudy and write down scripture to deepen understandingPut on the armor of God intentionallyRemove yourself from environments that weaken your disciplineEstablish accountability through prayer partnerships or communityMeditate on the Word so it becomes your automatic responseReflection QuestionsWhat spiritual disciplines have become inconsistent in your life?Where is God calling you to strengthen your spiritual foundation? What environments, habits, or distractions may be weakening your spiritual clarity? What daily practices can you implement to build spiritual muscle memory?Resources MentionedBibleHub.comBibleStudyTools.comGotQuestions.orgA study Bible for deeper context and understandingOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp and use my code betterhelp.com for a great deal: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out NetSuite and use my code netsuite.ai/BLESSED for a great deal: https://www.netsuite.com* Check out Super.com and use my code super.com/credit for a great deal: https://super.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The Core Competencies of Commitment
In this episode of Blessed and Bossed Up, Tatum reframes commitment from a biblical perspective. Rather than defining commitment as discipline, motivation, or consistency, she defines it as spiritual restraint—the willingness to restrict your freedom of action in order to fully submit to God’s way. This teaching explores why commitment is a distinguishing mark of believers and how inconsistent restraint can quietly lead us from dependence on the Holy Spirit into self-sufficiency.Episode HighlightsA biblical definition of commitment as restraintWhy commitment is a marker of spiritual maturityHow good intentions can still lead to compromiseThe difference between good ideas and God ideasWhy God cares about how we start, continue, and finishBiblical Foundation: Asa and Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles)Tatum examines the lives of King Asa and King Jehoshaphat to show how waning commitment and partial obedience produced long-term consequences. Both kings were generally faithful but inconsistent in restraint:Asa obeyed God early in his reign but later relied on alliances rather than the Lord.Jehoshaphat followed God in major decisions but compromised in daily and strategic ones.Their stories reveal that partial obedience and strategic compromise can open doors we never intended to open. The Five Core Competencies of CommitmentCommitment to the Lord should be distinguishable. These five competencies serve as markers of true spiritual commitment:A Clear and Clean Heart Commitment begins with the inner condition of the heart. Unaddressed pride, bitterness, anger, and self-reliance hinder obedience. Scriptures: Matthew 5:8; 1 Samuel 16:7Courage Courage is the spiritual strength to obey God despite fear, risk, or opposition. Obedience often requires moving forward without certainty. Scripture: Joshua 1:9Diligence Diligence is steady, faithful obedience over time. Longevity in calling, business, and ministry is built on faithfulness, not motivation. Scripture: Proverbs 21:5Precision Precision means doing exactly what God said—no more and no less. Dependence on God is required to walk out assignments with accuracy.Contentment Contentment is an inner sufficiency rooted in trust in God’s sovereignty, independent of external circumstances. Scriptures: Philippians 4:11–13; 1 Timothy 6:6–8Faith and Human BehaviorResearch shows that commitment bridges the gap between intention and action. Many people struggle not because they lack desire, but because they lack commitment. This biblical framework for commitment not only produces consistency in action, but also spiritual fruit, deeper intimacy with God, and alignment with His will.Closing ThoughtCommitment is not about productivity alone. It is about pleasing the Father, finishing the assignment, and stewarding the life God entrusted to us.If this episode blessed you, please leave a five-star review. Understanding Peace as a Spiritual Marker
In this episode of Blessed + Bossed Up, we continue our book club discussion of The Spirit-Filled Life by Charles Stanley, wrapping up Part Three of the book. These final chapters focus on the spiritual markers the Holy Spirit uses to confirm God’s will—and today’s conversation dives into the first two: peace and the conscience.Tatum unpacks why peace is often the first and clearest indicator that the Holy Spirit is either affirming or resisting a decision. Through a powerful story from Charles Stanley’s own ministry—where waiting on God led to a debt-free miracle—this episode challenges the tendency to panic, self-rely, or rationalize disobedience when God seems silent. The episode also includes several personal testimonies illustrating how the absence or presence of peace has guided major life decisions, from entrepreneurship and ministry to relationships and family choices. These stories highlight that spiritual maturity is not a prerequisite for the Holy Spirit to lead—He speaks from the very beginning of our walk with God.In the second half of the episode, the discussion turns to Stanley’s second marker: the conscience. While acknowledging the biblical framework presented in the book, Tatum offers honest reflection and thoughtful critique, questioning whether the conscience should be treated as a distinct marker separate from the Holy Spirit’s work of renewing the mind. This portion of the conversation invites listeners into deeper discernment, encouraging them to study Scripture, pray intentionally, and test what resonates with the Spirit. The episode closes with practical reflection questions from the book to help listeners evaluate decisions they may be facing—especially when peace seems unclear or external advice conflicts with inner conviction. This episode is an invitation to slow down, listen closely, and trust that the Holy Spirit is actively leading—even when His direction doesn’t make logical senseOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp and use my code betterhelp.com for a great deal: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out NetSuite and use my code netsuite.ai/BLESSED for a great deal: https://www.netsuite.com* Check out Super.com and use my code super.com/credit for a great deal: https://super.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Their relationship has grown over the years into genuine friendship (Tatum even officiated Raevyn and her husband Tim’s wedding!), and in this conversation they go deep on what it really means to build a legacy God’s way.Together, they unpack legacy and longevity in entrepreneurship, how to steward influence and resources, and why “doing business God’s way” often includes wilderness seasons that teach dependence, humility, and true alignment.Want to watch the interview? The Position of Your Mind Determines the Posture of Your Life (w/ Kristen Hopkins Vincent)
In this episode, I’m joined by my friend and podcast fave Kristen Hopkins Vincent—and yes, we’re talking about the Vincent part today! Kristen returns with powerful updates on her life (she’s a wife and a mom now!) and on the incredible work happening through Black SEL.We dig into Kristen’s transition from Dangers of the Mind to Black SEL, why culturally-rooted social and emotional learning is essential for Black communities, and what it looks like to build a mission-driven organization with radical obedience to God. Kristen shares moments where obedience didn’t make sense—like moving forward with a major conference during a hurricane—and how God confirmed the vision through provision, research, and undeniable fruit. We also talk about the very real emotions that come up when you’re following God’s timing: shame, guilt, feeling unseen, and learning how to embrace seasons of being hidden. And Kristen’s testimony around marriage and motherhood is such a needed reminder: it’s not too late, and God is always intentional. Before we get into it: Kristen and her husband received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award—and she forgot to mention it in the conversation because that’s what happens when you’re focused on obedience and doing the Lord’s work.In this episode, we cover:What Black SEL is and why it’s necessaryKristen’s transition from Dangers of the Mind to launching a nonprofitThe 5 core competencies of social-emotional learning (and how Black SEL frames them)Why SEL must be culturally affirming to truly serve Black students and communitiesBuilding “God’s way” vs. building in your own mightThe difference between a “me” assignment and a “we” assignmentNavigating shame, guilt, and the pressure to be seenSeasons where God hides you—and why that protection mattersKristen’s hurricane conference testimony and how God made the wayThe research that revealed how little SEL scholarship centers Black communitiesWaiting on God for marriage and motherhood—and what it means to pray for alignment with your assignmentA word for the woman juggling purpose, business, love, and obedience“The position of your mind determines the posture of your life”Connect with Kristen + Support Black SELVisit: BlackSEL.orgDonate + learn more about the mission and programmingGet involved / volunteer (especially if you’re in North Carolina)Our Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp and use my code betterhelp.com for a great deal: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out NetSuite and use my code netsuite.ai/BLESSED for a great deal: https://www.netsuite.com* Check out Super.com and use my code super.com/credit for a great deal: https://super.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Doing God’s Work God’s Way
In this bonus episode, we officially pick back up our book club read of The Spirit-Filled Life by Charles Stanley after pausing in Q4 due to major life transitions, including starting law school and welcoming a new baby. The goal now is simple: finish the book together and apply it practically as we move into a new year.If you are new to the book club, all previous episodes are linked in the show notes, along with the link to purchase the book. This remains one of my top Christian books of all time and one I believe should be reread regularly, especially at the beginning of the year.Today’s Focus: Chapter 11 — Doing God’s Work God’s WayWhile this episode technically covers Chapters 11 and 12, the primary focus is Chapter 11. Chapter 12 largely reiterates themes already covered earlier in the book regarding the Holy Spirit, so today’s discussion centers on what it truly looks like to build, work, and live by God’s Spirit rather than our own strength. The chapter opens with Zechariah 4:6–7: “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.”Using the story of Zerubbabel rebuilding the temple, Charles Stanley reminds us that:God knows we will face oppositionGod does not always remove obstaclesGod prepares us insteadSelf-sufficiency is often the greatest oppositionThis scripture is a critical anchor for anyone building a business, pursuing goals, or stepping into God-ordained work.No Separation Between Spiritual and Secular WorkColossians 3:23–24 reminds us that “whatever you do” is service to the Lord. God does not divide life into sacred and secular categories. Your job, business, career, and daily responsibilities are all part of your calling.Even in environments where faith cannot be openly expressed, excellence, humility, integrity, and Spirit-dependence still glorify God. Your work ethic and posture can be a bridge to someone who may never step into a church. Two Ways to Approach God’s WorkDoing God’s work in the flesh looks like:relying on skill, experience, influence, and strategyplanning first and asking God to bless it latermeasuring success by numbers, money, or visibilityoperating in stress, pressure, and controlDoing God’s work by the Spirit looks like:beginning with dependencyhearing from God before planningremaining flexible and surrenderedallowing God to receive the gloryGod’s work done God’s way carries an unmistakable mark. It produces transformation, not just emotional stimulation or surface-level success.Five Indicators You’re Doing God’s Work God’s WayAccording to Charles Stanley, Spirit-led work is marked by:Knowing the work will fail if God does not interveneSeeing God as your only true sourceLooking for evidence of the Spirit’s interventionLiving without chronic stressSpending more time thanking God than asking HimIf these are not currently descriptive of you, that is not condemnation—it is an invitation to course-correct.Final EncouragementThis episode is especially timely for the beginning of the year, when many of us are setting goals and making plans. If you started the year operating in the flesh, now is the time to bring those plans back to God, repent of self-sufficiency, and realign your posture.Write these five indicators down. Keep Zechariah 4:6 somewhere visible. Check yourself often and intentionally choose to do God’s work God’s way.We have two more bonus episodes to finish the book before moving on to our next book club pick.Thank you for listening to another episode of the Blessed + Bossed Up podcast.Previous episodes:https://www.blessedandbossedup.com/podcast/episode/39405540/the-joy-youve-been-missing-starts-with-the-holy-spirithttps://www.blessedandbossedup.com/podcast/episode/3255ebb2/the-holy-spirit-is-not-an-it-or-a-ghosthttps://www.blessedandbossedup.com/podcast/episode/20f3c1c7/faith-over-formulahttps://www.blessedandbossedup.com/podcast/episode/4df616ba/abiding-over-achievinghttps://www.blessedandbossedup.com/podcast/episode/2213e340/the-faith-factorhttps://www.blessedandbossedup.com/podcast/episode/28425033/keeping-in-step-with-the-spiritOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp and use my code betterhelp.com for a great deal: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out NetSuite and use my code netsuite.ai/BLESSED for a great deal: https://www.netsuite.com* Check out Super.com and use my code super.com/credit for a great deal: https://super.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

**Disclaimer** We are currently on our annual winter break. This is a replay of an episode that aired earlier in 2025.In this continuation of the Bible on Business series, Tatum walks through Acts 16:6–10 to illustrate how critical it is for Christian entrepreneurs to embrace mobility and flexibility when building a business God’s way. Using Paul’s second missionary journey as a framework, this episode explores what it looks like to make strategic plans while remaining fully open to divine redirection. If you’re someone who knows you’re called but keeps facing closed doors, delays, or redirections that don’t make sense, this message is for you. Tatum speaks to the emotional and spiritual tension of following God with excellence while trusting Him to guide every step—even when plans change. She also shares a personal story about obeying the Holy Spirit with no confirmation and how that decision ultimately protected her and her family. This episode will shift your mindset around delays, reframe how you view closed doors, and help you move forward with peace and confidence.Key TakeawaysA closed door is not failure—it can be divine redirection. The Holy Spirit often leads us as we move, not before.Flexibility and mobility are vital for kingdom entrepreneurs.Being spiritual is not the same as being Spirit-led.Obedience does not always come with external confirmation. The people God is calling you to serve are already prepared to receive you.Scripture FocusActs 16:6–10 (ESV and The Message)Proverbs 16:9Romans 8:14Galatians 5:25This Episode is For You If:You are clear about your calling but uncertain about next steps. You’ve experienced unexpected closed doors and felt discouraged. You struggle to distinguish between faith and fear in business decisions. You are tired of waiting for external confirmation before obeying God.You want to operate in peace rather than anxiety as you build your business.Topics CoveredStrategic planning vs. spiritual discernmentWhat to do when you face delays, pivots, or redirectionsThe importance of maintaining spiritual rhythm in businessHow over-attachment to your vision can block divine movementThe role of fear and anxiety in clouding discernmentHow obedience leads to favor and alignment with your ideal clientsOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp and use my code betterhelp.com for a great deal: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out NetSuite and use my code netsuite.ai/BLESSED for a great deal: https://www.netsuite.com* Check out Super.com and use my code super.com/credit for a great deal: https://super.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

How to Make Spirit-Led Business Decisions pt. 2
**Disclaimer** We are currently on our annual winter break. This is a replay of an episode that aired earlier in 2025.In this continuation of our Bible on Business series, we dive deeper into the process of making Holy Spirit-led business decisions. Picking up from Part 1 (based on Acts 8), today’s discussion focuses on Acts 13:1-4 and how divine strategy and clarity are birthed from a lifestyle of worship, fasting, and consistent submission to God. Tatum also shares critical biblical principles for discerning the spirit behind those who claim to be sent by God, offering practical steps to avoid deception and remain anchored in the truth.Key Points:Context of Acts 13: Shift from Jerusalem to Antioch, highlighting the transition from Peter’s leadership to Paul’s.Divine Strategy is Birthed from Worship and Fasting:Barnabas and Saul’s commissioning came in the middle of an existing posture of worship, not a strategic session seeking next steps.Application: Do not seek God only for strategy—pursue a lifestyle of submission, intimacy, and service.Beware of Misaligned Spiritual Leadership:Many modern Christian entrepreneurs and believers are spiritually "thirsty," making them vulnerable to deception.Importance of properly discerning who lays hands on you or influences your spiritual walk and business decisions.Principles for Discerning Spiritual Leadership:Test their confession of Jesus (1 John 4:1-3).Test the fruit of their life (Matthew 7:15-20).Test alignment with Scripture (Galatians 1:8-9; Isaiah 8:20).Test through the witness of the Holy Spirit (John 16:13).Practical Application:Ask key questions:Does this person exalt the true Jesus or themselves?Does their life consistently produce holy fruit? Are their teachings aligned fully with Scripture?Does the Holy Spirit bear witness within you regarding their message and conduct?Take your time before accepting any prophetic word or impartation. It is wise to "wait and see" rather than rushing based on emotions.Personal Story:Tatum shares her own journey of being patient during a wilderness season and how God’s deposits led to the launch of Anchored Media and her continued success, underscoring the power of patience and submission.Resources Mentioned:The Spirit-Filled Life by Charles Stanley – [Grab your copy here] https://a.co/d/cBARYuEBible references: Acts 13:1-4, 1 John 4:1-3, Matthew 7:15-20, Galatians 1:8-9, Isaiah 8:20, John 16:13Call to Action:Reflect: Are you seeking God’s hand or His heart first?Evaluate: Apply the principles of spiritual discernment shared today to your current business community and spiritual influences.Prepare: Join the Blessed + Bossed Up Book Club as we start The Spirit-Filled Life by Charles Stanley. His Strategic Timing
**Disclaimer** We are currently on our annual winter break. This is a replay of an episode that aired earlier in 2025. In this episode of Blessed and Bossed Up, we continue our Bible on Business series by diving into the significance of strategic timing. Tatum unpacks the powerful lessons from Acts 2, examining how the Lord orchestrated the perfect moment for Pentecost and how this applies to our business and leadership journeys. She discusses why waiting on God’s timing is crucial, how to avoid premature leadership, and how divine strategy ensures maximum impact.Through the transformation of Peter, the example of Chick-fil-A’s success, and personal reflections on her own journey, Tatum emphasizes the importance of trusting God's plan. If you’re in a season of waiting or feeling impatient about your business or calling, this episode will encourage and challenge you to surrender to God's divine orchestration.Key Takeaways:God’s Timing Ensures Maximum Impact: Pentecost happened at the exact right moment to maximize the spread of the gospel. Likewise, waiting on God's timing in your business will lead to greater impact. The Right People Will Be in Place When It's Time: God gathers the right audience, customers, and community when the timing aligns with His plan.Strategic Preparation Precedes Breakthrough: Just as Peter had to go through a transformation process, we must embrace personal and professional development while waiting for God’s move.Sudden Breakthroughs Are Often Years in the Making: From Jesus preparing 30 years for a 3-year ministry to Chick-fil-A’s 20-year foundation before expansion, major success takes time and patience.Avoid Premature Leadership & Decision-Making: Acting ahead of God’s plan can lead to consequences. Learning to wait well is key to success in both business and faith.Scriptures Mentioned:Acts 2:1-5 – The divine timing of PentecostLeviticus 23:15-16 – The significance of the Feast of WeeksDeuteronomy 16:16 – The biblical foundation for gathering at PentecostMatthew 16:16-23 – Peter’s faith and spiritual immaturityJohn 18:10-11 – Peter’s rash decision-makingOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp and use my code betterhelp.com for a great deal: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out NetSuite and use my code netsuite.ai/BLESSED for a great deal: https://www.netsuite.com* Check out Super.com and use my code super.com/credit for a great deal: https://super.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

When Obedience Costs You Everything
In this vulnerable end-of-year episode, Tatum opens up about navigating a year of big transition—welcoming a new baby, starting law school, stewarding family and business, and still choosing to make God the CEO of it all. She shares how 2025 has exposed areas for growth, internal “shoulds,” and noise… but also how her foundation in God has kept her steady.Tatum also announces that the podcast will be on pause for December as she focuses on finals, rest, and seeking God for the next phase of the Bible on Business series—coming back in the new year with more teaching and visual, behind-the-scenes content. Then we dive back into Part 2 of her powerful conversation with Pastor Tiffany Sowah. Tiffany shares the real cost of obedience: relocating in 30 days off fragmented instructions from God, losing a major federal contract, walking through a “manna season” where she and her husband had just enough for each day, and even surrendering her dream car and apartment. She talks honestly about anger, depression, and feeling like she’d “lost everything”—and how God reframed it as giving everything up to follow Him.This episode is for the entrepreneur, leader, or believer who is:Wrestling with hesitation around a big instruction from GodQuestioning if they “heard Him right” because obedience led to hardshipIn a season where it feels like everything is being stripped, not addedWanting to understand what it really means to count the cost and still say “yes”We also share the heart behind the New Year’s Eve Prayer-a-thon, how it was birthed in the middle of Tiffany’s lowest financial season, and why you absolutely want to be in the virtual room this year. The Prayer-a-thon: Heart + InvitationHow the first Prayer-a-thon (Dec 2023) was birthed while Tiffany was working a seasonal job at Ross, living with her parents, and rebuilding from scratchThe purpose of the Prayer-a-thon: to end the year and enter the next one in the only place that sustains us—God’s presenceGrowing from an 8–12 hour broadcast to an 18–20 hour global prayer experience with people joining from all over the worldTestimonies of people who planned to “hop on for a bit” and ended up staying all dayWhy you should come ready to log in “for an hour”… but be prepared to want to stay much longer Register for the Prayer-a-thon: bit.ly/mwgprayerthon💛 Partnership Spotlight: Heifer InternationalHeifer International is a global nonprofit that empowers women farmers like Akanbi Ashiata, who grew up in Lagos and struggled to access fair funding to grow her tomato business. The Cost of Obedience w| Pastor Tiffany Sowah
In this episode of Blessed + Bossed Up, Tatum sits down with one of our favorites, Pastor Tiffany Sowah, for a real and raw conversation about what it actually looks like to depend on God in business, ministry, and life. The last time Tiffany was on the show was in 2020. Since then, everything has changed: she’s become Pastor Tiffany, married, relocated twice (from Philly to North Carolina and now living full-time in Ghana), shifted from multi–six-figure consulting to full-time ministry, and has walked through some of the hardest financial and emotional seasons of her life.In Part 1 of this conversation, Tatum and Tiffany talk about the Bible on Business journey, the difference between worldly “Christian-branded” strategies and truly building from the Word, and the uncomfortable reality of learning to really depend on God when everything in you wants to lean on hustle, self-reliance, or what looks “practical” on paper.Tiffany shares how God:Took her from a busy life in Philly as a property owner and multi–six-figure business ownerLed her to North Carolina for a softer, more peaceful lifestyle and deeper feminine identityBegan quietly preparing her heart to slow down in business and ramp up in ministryUsed isolation, relocation, and hidden seasons to cultivate boldness, honesty, and a lifestyle of obedienceThey also talk about:Growing up in church vs. actually forming a personal relationship with GodHow Catalyst Church in Philly became Tiffany’s training ground for intercession, obedience, and spiritual maturityWhy accountability, therapy, and spiritual covering matter so much when you’re hungry for GodThe danger of consuming only digital, “sound bite” faith and how to slow down and discern voices onlineWhy wanting “more” (peace, better quality of life, financial freedom, the ability to be a kingdom financier) isn’t wrong—but must be submitted to GodThis conversation is a masterclass in counting the cost, moving when God says move, and allowing Him to reshape your identity beyond hustle, proximity-based friendships, and public success.Stay tuned for Part 2, where they dig into what happened when Tiffany’s business unraveled, the reality of manna seasons, grief in transitions, and how God used it all to expand her global ministry and birth the Prayerthon.🌍 Register for the End of Year PrayerthonJoin believers from around the world on December 31 for 18+ hours of prayer, teaching, and intercession across six core pillars of life.👉🏾 Register here: bit.ly/mwgprayerthon💛 Partnership Spotlight: Heifer InternationalHeifer International is a global nonprofit that empowers women farmers like Akanbi Ashiata, who grew up in Lagos and struggled to access fair funding to grow her tomato business. Faith Doesn’t Replace Fundamentals
In this episode of Blessed + Bossed Up, Tatum continues the Bible on Business series with a sobering reminder: faith does not replace fundamentals. Yes, we pray, fast, and follow God’s leading—but we also have to be good stewards who understand the basic building blocks of business. Tatum walks you through what it really means to count the cost (Luke 14:28–30) and breaks down the core fundamentals every God-led entrepreneur needs in place so you’re not just starting things… you’re able to sustain and scale them with integrity.Sponsored by Heifer InternationalSo many women around the world are called by God to build, but lack access to basic financial resources. In Nigeria, 98% of women can’t access formal credit—no capital, no accounts, no way to grow what God has put in their hands. When you give to Heifer’s Microloan Impact Fund, 100% of your gift goes directly to women entrepreneurs so they can access the capital they need to build sustainable farms and businesses.Turn blessing into opportunity: fund a loan today at Heifer.org/blessed In This Episode, We Cover:Why “being super saved” isn’t enough to build a sustainable business – How many Christian entrepreneurs skip the unglamorous fundamentals and then blame God for what’s really mismanagement.Exegesis of Luke 14:28–30 – What Jesus meant when He said to count the cost before building. – How this applies directly to launching and running a business in 2025 and beyond.Faith + Fundamentals = Fruit that Lasts – Why spiritual disciplines (prayer, fasting, obedience) must be paired with practical disciplines (planning, numbers, systems). – How to avoid building businesses that look spiritual on the surface but are structurally weak underneath. The Core Fundamentals Every Business Needs Tatum breaks down “Business 101” in simple, God-first language:Executive Summary – Your God-given assignment in business and what you’re really here to do.Market Research – How to stop guessing and actually understand your industry + the people you’re called to serve.Products & Services – Clarifying what you’re selling and how it solves a real problem.Marketing & Sales Plan – Why “posting on social” isn’t a strategy and how to think in terms of your customer’s journey.Operations Plan – Systems, structure, and stewardship so your business can function without chaos.Financial Plan – Startup costs, pricing, margins, and budgeting so you’re not “successful” online but broke in real life.Risk & Legal Structure – Why you need professional counsel (attorney + accountant) and can’t skip this step. How Fundamentals Protect Your Witness – Why half-finished projects, abandoned brands, and messy business practices misrepresent the God you claim to serve. – How counting the cost upfront protects your name and His.Free Resources Mentioned:The Clarity Cleanse (30-Day Guided Detox) A free 30-day guide to help you quiet the noise, detox from distraction, and sharpen your ability to hear God concerning your business decisions. Start With Sobriety
Episode summary:Today we kick off a new how-to series answering a listener’s question: “I study what you teach, but I still feel stuck.” Tatum lays the foundation—sobriety of mind and spirit—so you can actually apply the Bible to your business. She shares her pruning season (fasting, laying down a growing business, guarding inputs), why entrepreneurship can be intoxicating, and how to detox the influences that dull your sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. You’ll get a free 30-day Clarity Cleanse to practice sober-minded focus before we ever talk funnels, launches, or plans.Join The Society (community + Bible studies + prayer): https://www.blessedandbossedup.com/communityScriptures referenced1 Peter 5:8 – Be sober-minded and watchful.1 Thessalonians 5:6–8 – Stay awake and sober; breastplate of faith and love.Mark 14:38 – Watch and pray; spirit willing, flesh weak.(Also mentioned across the episode: Romans 12:2; Philippians 4:8; 2 Corinthians 10:5; Psalm 119:37; Matthew 6:22; Psalm 139:23–24; Matthew 6:33; Proverbs 16:3)Key takeawaysClarity precedes strategy. If you’re not sober-minded, you’ll chase metrics and momentum instead of God’s voice.“With” not “for.” You’re building with God as CEO—His timing, His blueprint, His outcomes.Guard your inputs. Influence creep is subtle: self-help replaces Scripture, “quick wins” replace consecration. Two paths. Mixed mentorship + hurry = wasted time and money; obedience in His timing = preserved energy, precise results, lasting fruit.Kingdom metrics ≠ vanity metrics. Success = pleasing God. From Revelation to Practice
A listener wrote in after the Bible on Business series saying they’re inspired, but struggle to get the same revelation when reading the Bible on their own—and don’t know how to apply it to business. That honest question surfaced a real gap between hearing and doing, which Tatum will address with a brand-new, step-by-step practical series on building a business with God today (not 2017).Before the series starts next episode, we’re reposting this foundational teaching to set perspective: revelation isn’t just for revenue—it’s for building eternally sound work that will withstand God’s testing. Listen with fresh ears, take notes, and get ready for a practical “how” series starting next.Episode SummaryTatum frames business-building through 1 Corinthians 3:13–15: everything we build will be tried by fire, revealing whether it was constructed on Christ or on straw. She walks through the tension between earthly success and eternal reward, invites honest heart work (contentment, motives, obedience), and gives a practical inspection checklist to evaluate what you’re building—so it lasts.Anchor Scripture1 Corinthians 3:13–15 — God’s fire reveals the quality of our work; only what’s built on Christ endures. Also referenced: 1 Cor. 3:11, 2 Cor. 5:10, Matthew 6:19–20, Galatians 6:9, James 1:12, Mark 10:45, Hebrews 11:6, 2 Timothy 4:8, 1 Peter 5:4, 1 Thessalonians 2:19, Romans 6:23, John 3:16, Revelation 21:4, 1 Corinthians 15:42, 52.Key ThemesPerspective reset: We’re not only building for launches and KPIs—we’re building for Judgment Day.Foundation matters: Only Christ is a durable foundation (1 Cor. 3:11).Eternal rewards: Salvation is by grace; rewards relate to faithfulness and obedience.Heart inspection: Contentment, motives, service, perseverance, and faith over sight. From revelation to practice: The upcoming series will translate Scripture → systems, decisions, and daily leadership.Checklist (from the episode)Ask and answer honestly—by your actions, not lip service:Foundation: Is this truly built on Jesus—or on trends, ambition, and metrics?Faithfulness & Obedience: Are your policies, leadership, and operations aligned with Scripture (not just intuition)?Service vs. Sales: Are you serving the people you’re called to, or merely selling? (Mark 10:45)Fruit: Do your processes reflect God’s character (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control)?Perseverance: Do you endure God-assignments when it’s hard, or quit? (Gal. 6:9; James 1:12)Faith in Practice: Do you operate by faith, not sight—especially when results lag? (Heb. 11:6; 2 Cor. 5:7)Reflection PromptsIf God’s plan looked nothing like your vision board, would you still follow Him?Where is contentment still being formed in you?Which part of your business would burn under testing—and why? What one policy or practice can you realign to Scripture this week? Our Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp and use my code betterhelp.com for a great deal: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out NetSuite and use my code netsuite.ai/BLESSED for a great deal: https://www.netsuite.com* Check out Super.com and use my code super.com/credit for a great deal: https://super.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Faith, Contentment & Boundaries
Tatum opens the episode reflecting on her recent midterm fatigue and decision to take a mental health day. She thanks listeners for their patience and reminds them that the podcast is a ministry, not a job. This space is about service — not clout, income, or obligation.“Part of taking what God entrusts to us seriously is knowing when we don’t have it to give — and honoring that.”[1:56] Listener Q&A IntroductionAfter receiving dozens of thoughtful questions from her audience, Tatum shares that she’ll be answering them over two upcoming episodes. She also hints at bringing back past guests whose lives and testimonies have evolved since their first appearance.[3:02] Question 1: Why Does It Feel Like Everyone Else Is Getting Blessed But Me?A listener in her 30s shares feelings of discouragement watching others get married, have children, and advance in their careers while she continues to wait on God.Scripture Focus: Philippians 4:10–13 (NLT)“I have learned how to be content with whatever I have… for I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”Highlights:[4:26] Paul’s contentment wasn’t rooted in circumstances, but in Christ.[6:02] The enemy often exploits waiting seasons to sow doubt and comparison.[7:29] Protect your vulnerabilities — unfollow triggers, set digital boundaries.[9:18] Learn to desire the Giver more than the gift.[10:11] Tatum shares how she met her husband in God’s timing, not her own.[13:18] Create “safeguards of contentment” through prayer, scripture, and boundaries.Key Takeaway:True peace in waiting comes when your fulfillment is anchored in God’s presence, not His performance.[15:23] Question 2: How Do I Set Boundaries as a Mom Starting a Business?A listener asks for guidance on balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship without losing focus on God’s purpose.Highlights:[16:30] The first boundary to establish is with yourself.[17:05] Balance is a myth — pursue harmony through alignment with God.[18:30] Tatum’s 3 personal boundaries:Stay connected to the Vine (John 15).Keep priorities in divine order.Do every assignment with excellence.[21:07] Boundaries are about stewardship, not restriction.Spiritual Insight:“Your ambition should never come at the expense of your assignment at home.”[22:22] Bonus Segment: God-Led Business StrategyTatum shifts into strategist mode, walking listeners through how to build a business from the ground up with divine order and practicality.Highlights:[23:28] Start with a clear business plan — use SBA.gov templates.[24:31] Validate your idea before marketing it.[25:47] Businesses fail when they don’t solve real problems.[26:30] Marketing is a byproduct of strategy, not the starting point.Takeaway:Build from the blueprint God gives you — not the algorithm’s trends.[27:00] Question 3: How Did You Stay Focused When People Doubted You?A listener who recently quit her 9–5 asks how to stay steadfast when others question her calling.Highlights:[28:01] Tatum recalls the doubtful reactions when she left her job to start Anchored Media.[28:48] How she turned fear into fuel by focusing on work, not validation.[29:58] The importance of a supportive community of faith-driven entrepreneurs.[31:09] Stay quiet about your progress — let the fruit speak.Key Takeaway:“When God gives you the vision, He’ll also give you the proof — but you have to build first.”[32:32] Question 4: Preparing for Motherhood as a Married EntrepreneurA listener asks how to spiritually and practically prepare for motherhood while running a business.Highlights:[33:48] Create a relationship bucket list — enjoy your marriage before kids.[36:02] Build rhythms of connection (weekly date nights, intentional check-ins).[36:41] Individual and joint therapy before kids is an act of preparation, not repair.[38:07] Men need emotional support too — they carry provision pressure.[39:29] Protect your marriage from being consumed by parenthood.[40:46] Create a “Happy List” for postpartum joy and mental health support.[42:59] Audit your business:Increase passive income streamsAutomate workflowsCut unnecessary costs[45:37] Make your business lean for freedom — not pressure.Key Takeaway:“Motherhood should multiply your grace, not your chaos. Your Reminder to be Bold
In this week’s episode of Blessed and Bossed Up, we’re continuing our Bible on Business series by unpacking the power of holy boldness through the lens of Acts 4:13–22. As Christian entrepreneurs, we are called to do more than just add scripture to our captions—we are called to build businesses that reflect the character of Christ and disrupt worldly systems with Kingdom values. This episode digs deep into what it truly means to be bold, not in a self-glorifying or performative way, but with a courage that is empowered by the Holy Spirit. We define boldness biblically, exploring its Greek root (parrēsia) and how it shows up in the lives of Peter and John as they stand before the Sanhedrin with confidence and conviction.Tatum also brings in Numbers 30 to confront how many of us mask passiveness as patience or humility when it is actually disobedience. You’ll walk away from this episode with the clarity to recognize whether your hesitation is humility or hidden fear, and the spiritual tools to begin choosing obedience over comfort.Other key takeaways:The biblical definition of boldness and how to cultivate itThe difference between boldness, pride, and egoWhat happens when we confuse self-glorification with Spirit-led courageWhy passiveness is not humility—and how to confront it in yourselfExamples of modern-day Kingdom businesses that disrupt worldly systemsThe connection between time with Jesus and confidence in your callingHow boldness helps you become a witness, not just an entrepreneurThis is a must-listen episode for anyone who is tired of playing it safe and ready to boldly obey what God has already told them to do.Our Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp and use my code betterhelp.com for a great deal: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out NetSuite and use my code netsuite.ai/BLESSED for a great deal: https://www.netsuite.com* Check out Super.com and use my code super.com/credit for a great deal: https://super.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Keeping in Step with the Spirit
We pick the book club back up with Part II (“Looking Within”) of The Spirit-Filled Life by Dr. Charles Stanley. Tatum recaps the biblical foundation of the Holy Spirit’s indwelling (for all believers at salvation) versus His influencing (our moment-by-moment leading). Building on the recent Internal Harmony series, she explains that walking by the Spirit is not distant, rule-based “directions,” but a close, personal leading—a lifestyle of sensitivity, dependence, and cooperation. You’ll learn why the Spirit’s primary goal is to form Christ-likeness, how to fight the “battle before the battle” in your mind, and why Scripture is the Holy Spirit’s weapon of choice (the sword of the Spirit) for dismantling lies, speculations, and flesh-driven desires. Tatum shares practical examples from entrepreneurship and life, showing how obedience positions us to avoid unnecessary suffering and walk into God’s wise, timely provision. Addicted to Control
In this final episode of the Internal Harmony Series, we’re tackling the “big C word” — control. Control isn’t just a personality trait; it’s a spiritual stronghold that keeps us bound, quenches the Spirit, and robs us of God’s peace. In this episode, I share a recent testimony about what happened when I surrendered control, unpack why the Bible calls us to release it, and walk through case studies of the Rich Young Ruler and Paul to show the difference between clinging to control and living surrendered. You’ll learn:Why control is a stronghold and how it quenches the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19)How control shows up as a cognitive distortionThe root issue of trust and how to rebuild itA practical Weekly Surrender Challenge to live this outThis episode will equip you to exchange control for surrender and experience the internal harmony God desires for you.Our Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp and use my code betterhelp.com for a great deal: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out NetSuite and use my code netsuite.ai/BLESSED for a great deal: https://www.netsuite.com* Check out Super.com and use my code super.com/credit for a great deal: https://super.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

We don't supress, we submit
In this powerful conclusion to the Internal Harmony Series, Tatum shares what it's looked like to live in true peace while managing law school, motherhood, business, and ministry. Through personal testimony and Spirit-led insight, she unpacks the third psychological barrier to inner peace: emotional suppression.Tatum explains how suppression—pushing down emotions like sadness, joy, fear, or anger—creates distance between us and the Holy Spirit, damages our bodies, and leads to emotional isolation. Drawing from biblical truth, she highlights how Jesus and David modeled emotional embodiment, reminding listeners that emotional honesty is not weakness—it’s worship. This episode is a call to stop striving and start surrendering. You’ll walk away with biblical study tools, a mantra (“We don’t suppress, we submit”), and simple, life-changing practices that foster rhythm, not routine. How Disembodiment Is Keeping You Dysregulated (and Out of Alignment)
In this week’s episode of Blessed + Bossed Up, we continue our Internal Harmony Series with Part 2 — unpacking the psychological factor of disembodiment. This is when we operate from our heads while ignoring our body’s signals, emotions, and even the Holy Spirit’s nudges. It’s been one of my biggest personal battles, and I’m sharing both biblical truth and practical tools to help you recognize and overcome it.You’ll learn:Key TakeawaysWhy harmony is more sustainable than balance in life and businessThe difference between external harmony (systems, productivity) and internal harmony (peace, alignment, presence)How disembodiment looks in daily life: ignoring hunger, pushing through pain, numbing emotions, and being physically present but mentally absentHow it shows up in business: over-functioning, leading from performance instead of presence, disconnected identity, and neglecting Spirit-led decision makingRoot causes backed by research — including trauma, perfectionism, performance-based childhoods, church culture, and over-reliance on logicGenerational breakdown of how Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z experience disembodiment differentlyWhat the Bible shows us about embodiment through the life of Jesus: feeling emotions (John 11:35), resting even in storms (Mark 4:38), and being present enough to sense spiritual exchange (Luke 8:45–46) Practical Steps to Reconnect:Address the root cause — through therapy, prayer, fasting, and surrender to GodBody scans — regularly pause to check in with how you feel physically and emotionallySchedule pauses & stillness — add intentional breaks to slow down and be presentInvolve your support system — ask heart questions, not just head questions, and invite accountabilityReplace old habits — build patterns that align with your identity in Christ instead of survival modeIf you’ve ever felt productive on the outside but disconnected on the inside, this episode will help you:-Recognize the signs of disembodiment- Identify your personal root causes-Begin practical and spiritual steps toward true embodiment that honors God, fosters peace, and strengthens your leadership in life and businessOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp and use my code betterhelp.com for a great deal: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out NetSuite and use my code netsuite.ai/BLESSED for a great deal: https://www.netsuite.com* Check out Super.com and use my code super.com/credit for a great deal: https://super.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The Faith Factor
In this powerful episode of Blessed and Bossed Up, we continue our Book Club series on The Spirit-Filled Life by Charles Stanley, diving into Part 2: Looking Within. Tatum unpacks Chapter 6, "The Faith Factor," where the focus shifts from understanding the Holy Spirit to practically living a Spirit-filled life. Drawing from her own transitional season—navigating motherhood and preparing for law school—Tatum shares how she’s applying this book’s wisdom in real-time.This episode explores the difference between reacting and responding, how to stop intellectualizing your faith, and why focus is the bridge between anxiety and peace. Tatum breaks down three biblical truths that can become daily affirmations rooted in scripture:The Holy Spirit indwells you,He is the life of Christ in you,He is willing and able to produce Christ's character through you.She encourages listeners to shift their focus from self-help affirmations to Holy Spirit-led declarations and offers strategies like building God's track record, preemptive morning declarations, and journaling answered prayers. Using the story of David and Goliath, she outlines how to activate faith before willpower, reminding us that walking in the Spirit is about surrender, focus, and confidence in God's promises.Whether you're facing daily stressors, emotional overwhelm, or spiritual stagnation, this episode gives you the tools to live a Spirit-filled life—not just on Sundays, but every single day.Prayer to Start Your Day in Victory:Lord, I claim the victory right now over the giant of [insert your giant here]. I recognize that this giant is coming up against the Christ in me. Just as you defeated this giant when you walked on this earth, you can defeat it through me now—for you are my life. I trust you to produce peace and self-control through me. I cannot handle what is to come, but you can. Respond through me. When the pressure comes, remind me that the battle is yours. How Cognitive Overload Blocks Your Spiritual Sensitivity
In this powerful kickoff to the Internal Harmony Series, Tatum invites high-achieving Christian women into a much-needed conversation about the hidden chaos beneath our productivity: cognitive overload. As a mom of three, business owner, and soon-to-be law student, Tatum shares vulnerably about the transition she's navigating and how God is leading her into a new understanding of internal harmony over external balance. This episode breaks down the psychological and spiritual toll of cognitive overload—what happens when our prefrontal cortex is overstimulated, and we lose our ability to hear the voice of God clearly, regulate our emotions, or even recognize how we feel.Tatum introduces the concept of internal vs. external harmony, showing that while routines and logistics matter, true peace comes from spiritual alignment, emotional presence, and abiding in Christ. She offers biblically-rooted, science-backed tools to help you slow down, re-engage your senses, and practice stillness so you can reconnect with God and yourself.Whether you're a woman juggling multiple roles or simply longing for more peace and clarity, this episode offers a holistic path forward. Expect to walk away with practical steps—like mindful breathing, meditating on scripture, nature walks, grounding exercises, sleep routines, journaling prompts, and fasting from information overload—to combat mental fatigue and restore harmony from the inside out.Plus, Tatum opens up about meditating on Galatians 2:20 and why high-performing women often turn to productivity over presence.
