Welcome to Academia Unlocked, our literary deep-dive series on Book Talk for BookTok! In this episode, we kick off our three-part series discussing The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. One of the most common ways readers come to The House on Mango Street is as a coming-of-age story, a slim, lyrical novel about a girl named Esperanza growing up in a Chicago barrio. And it is that. But Sandra Cisneros was doing something far more precise on the page: building a novel out of vignettes, each fragmented story complete on its own and devastating in accumulation, to capture a girlhood caught between the house she wants to escape and the house she can't stop carrying inside her. Dive into our literary analysis of A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas, the bestselling author behind the global phenomenon A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR). In this season, we break down ACOSF through an academic lens, using our combined 13 years of literary training to analyze Nesta Archeron’s character arc, Cassian and Nesta’s relationship, and the deeper themes driving Sarah J. Maas’s storytelling. We explore key elements of the novel, including symbolism, metaphor, imagery, and character development, while examining major A Court of Silver Flames themes like trauma, healing, power, and transformation within the ACOTAR series. Chapters Summary: Cassian and Nesta travel to the Spring Court to deliver news to Eris about his fallen soldiers. Frustrated, Nesta returns to her private library, surprised to find her favorite sister, Elain, and the two lash out at one another, causing Elain to leave in tears while Nesta retreats back into her mind. Filled with anger and self-hatred, Nesta’s built-up tension with Cassian finally breaks, and the two have a passionate exchange in the hallway, but only Cassian his release. At the River Estate, the Inner Circle plots to find the legendary Dread Trove before Bryalynn, who is determined to bring war to their doorstep. A disagreement about which made Archeron sister will scry for the trove ends when Feyre announces her pregnancy. Cassian visits Nesta’s bedroom to settle the score between them.
