Bronny James attended the NBA draft combine in Chicago, Illinois. For Southern Cal, James averaged 4.8 points per game in 25 games after recovering from previous summer workout when he was treated for cardiac arrest. He did not play during beginning of college season after having medical procedure for congenital heart defect. Which team will draft Bronny James? Should he finish college at USC?

Texas University football coach Steve Sarkisian says Quinn Ewers will be his starting quarterback going into 2024 season. The UT head coach said Arch Manning will continue as backup QB for Texas. Last season, Ewers led Longhorns to 12-2 record. Manning, from New Orleans’ Isadore Newman, is waiting in wings in Austin for his turn. Ewers threw for 22 touchdowns and 3,479 yards passing in 2023. Ewers completed 69 percent of his passing attempts.

Former TCU football coach Gary Patterson will become a consultant at Baylor in 2024. Private universities Baylor and TCU have a seriously intense rivalry. Baylor in Waco, Texas, is about an hour and 20 minutes away from Texas Christian University up Interstate 35 in Fort Worth. Patterson was 9-4 as head coach at TCU against Baylor. Patterson won 113 times in 172 conference games at TCU. Overall, Patterson was 181-79 as winningest head coach of the Horned Frogs. He was 11-6 in bowl games as head coach. Did you know TCU won 10 games in 11 of his 21 seasons as coach of the Frogs? TCU finished in the Associated Press Top 10 six times. … His 2014 TCU team and Baylor shared the Big 12 championship. He won four titles in Mountain West and the 2002 Conference USA championship. … Patterson, now age 63, left TCU in 2021 abruptly after eight games. He served as special assistant at Texas under Steve Sarkisian during 2022. … TCU plays at Baylor Nov. 2. Patterson won five times in the last six games he coached TCU against Baylor. In 2023, the Bears were 3-9 under Coach Dave Aranda (age 47), who will be coaching his fifth season in Waco. Aranda’s Bears won the 2022 Big 12 title.

NFL update - New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers sustained a season-ending Achilles tendon on fourth play of first drive when Buffalo’s Leonard Floyd sacked him. Rodgers’ left foot went under him as his foot rolled. The QB stood up, started limping then went back to the turf. He was carted off the field Monday night. On Tuesday the MEI revealed a complete tear on his Achilles tendon. He is not expected to play again in 2023.

Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders passed for four touchdowns and 510 yards with 38 completions on 47 attempts in a 45-42 college football season opener at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. Sanders passed for more than 100 to each of four different receivers against TCU. Colorado freshman Dylan Edwards scored on three touchdown receptions.

Temple Texas wrestler and linebacker and two-time All-District MVP Taurean York signed with Baylor, which ended the season with a 21-7 Sugar Bowl victory over Mississippi. In high school, York has forced four fumbles, grabbed five more to give Temple the ball back and made 141 tackles. York (5-10, 210 pounds) has been starting for Temple for three seasons.

Tight end Dalton Schultz caught four passes for 54 yards. Elliott caught three for 25 yards.

Dallas received a scare two plays into the game when Tyrone Crawford left the field and went to the hospital with a neck injury. The division - champion Cowboys (9-6) have run off a 6-1 mark after starting off 3-5. The Cowboys play next at the New York Giants on Sunday in the regular - season finale.
