Rob Horgan - The November Project

https://thenovemberproject.substack.com/The November Project is a true story based on over 300 love letters my grandpa wrote to my grandma during World War 2. I transcribed all of the love letters into a series of four books called Frank Love Letters. I learned how our ancestors fought for human rights, for everyone to get home, and to keep families together. These themes are universal and are expressed throughout history in songs and stories of love and longing. I am proud to share the story of our Canadian ancestors that brought freedom from want and freedom from fear to so many people. If you enjoy what I do here and if you also enjoy my music, please considering buying me a coffee at the link in the logo above. Erika Sherger

https://www.erikashergermusic.com/Known for her authentic, soul-stirring performances, Erika writes songs that explore grief, healing, transformation, and human connection with unflinching honesty.Raised on the music of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, she began playing guitar in college and turned to songwriting as a deeply personal outlet. Though she wrote privately for years, it wasn’t until 2018 that she stepped onto a stage at a local open mic. From that moment on, her musical journey accelerated. She now performs regularly throughout New Jersey at songwriter showcases, listening rooms, and community venues, both as a solo artist and alongside a rotating cast of collaborators. Her vocal style and music have drawn comparisons to Natalie Merchant, Emmylou Harris, Stevie Nicks, and Gillian Welch, but her sound remains distinctly her own. Influenced by the songwriting of artists like Peter Gabriel, Ryan Adams, and Jeff Tweedy, Erika’s lyrics are poetic and introspective, shaped by her experiences and a deep connection to people, nature, and memory. Her 3rd album, Wrap Me Up in Colored Feathers, was released in September of 2025. Produced by Damian Calcagne at PineBox Studio, the ten-song collection features contributions from notable musicians including Mike Robinson, Elliott Peck, and Adam Minkoff. It follows her 2023 album, Bad Wolf, and her 2021 debut EP, Like Birds, further establishing Erika as a powerful new voice in folk and Americana. If you would like to support my work here on Substack and my music (https://www.briantmusic.com), please click the Buy Me A Coffee link and donate. Graven (Matty McKechnie)

Although exposed to classical tunes with piano lessons during childhood and playing the alto sax in Grade 9, none of that moved the needle. Hearing his dad spin endless vinyl through the floorboards to the tune of Lionel Richie, Kenny Rogers, Whitney Houston, Neil Diamond and many others in his childhood, however, was the spark in Matty's musical fire. In his preteens, he was enthralled by the rhymes and rhythms and wordplay of Hip Hop and rap music, with Run DMC, Beastie Boys, LL Cool J and the Fat Boys kicking open a door in his subconscious mind. Lyrics have always been Matty's true north, and they provide the canvas for the rainbow-coloured paint spatter of his heart-sleeve songs. Whether he's firing up the machine with his ferocious five piece band, playing in a trio or duo with his talented side-players (AKA Tom Thompson on pedal steel and baritone electric guitar and Gideon Yellin on atmospheric electric lead), or completely exposed in a solo setting, Matty is a versatile performer who brings an earnest and passionate thunder and lightning along with somber ponderous post-storm thought-drizzle to every live setting.Brian Tremblay’s Lonesome Cowboy Cowboy Podcast is a free publication. Allison Brown

Allison’s music continues to evolve after more than two decades of performance history. Allison’s musical rambles have taken her across Canada on several occasions, playing music from atop hay-wagons to festival stages, concert halls to living rooms, campfires to stone amphitheatres, churches and record stores, coffeehouses and honky-tonk saloons to aboard moving passenger rail cars. She has performed road tours lasting up to three months and has released three full-length studio albums, live albums, and several singles.Allison performs solo with guitar and voice, but is often joined by her brave mandolin accompanist, Dan Henshall. She also teams up with Southern Ontario’s classic country music authenticator Mike Houston (formerly Lonesome Lefty) for honky-tonk and bluegrass duets. Allison’s backing band, “The Assembly Line,” expands her sound to an acoustic trio or quartet. Allison often teams up with musical friends for a variety of unique collaborations.Brian Tremblay’s Lonesome Cowboy Cowboy Podcast is a free publication. There’s no charge to subscribe. Kyla Tilley

https://www.kylatilley.com/You’ll find Kyla deep in the woods of the island of Newfoundland, in the province of Newfoundland & Labrador, on the far east coast of Canada. Most of her time is spent writing songs and playing her guitars. The wild and unkempt nature of this place is a constant source of inspiration, as are books, movies, sports, video games, art, humanity, laundry, shoes...The music she makes exists because she grew up playing classical guitar, singing Celtic folk music, and listening to prog-rock and metal, among other things. Prog-folk is the best descriptor she can think of for what it is exactly that she does. There’s a bit of 60s folk revival and musical theatre in there too.Brian Tremblay’s Lonesome Cowboy Cowboy Podcast is a free publication. There’s no charge to subscribe. Rachel Beausoleil

I want my music to be an escape from the present. It should let you forget about the daily grind … at least for a little while. Let your imagination and emotion transport you into the stories. Treat the music like a mini vacation that leaves you feeling renewed.Jazz is always at the root of my music, because I love to improvise. But I am no purist… I love to mix it up with traditional and popular songs from around the world. And I have even been heard improvising over a Baroque theme! I just don’t see a reason to limit my musical choices. That’s why I sing in six different languages! Now that my children are grown, I am free to give the music all I’ve got. My voice is stronger than it has ever been. I want to enchant you with my vocals. I still play piano, but only in the shower! And I have been working on learning guitar.https://www.rachelbeausoleil.ca/Brian Tremblay’s Lonesome Cowboy Cowboy Podcast is a free publication. There’s no charge to subscribe. Kate Gillespie

When she was thirteen years old, her Dad took her on a trip to Nashville, based on their shared love for country music. In August of 2014, Kate moved to Nashville to pursue her musical career. A few years later, in September of 2017, she released her debut EP, titled “Pink and Gold.”. The album gained quick success on Spotify, with over 3 million streams on Spotify and was noted for its “…make-you shiver vocals, lyrics that stick in your head and tug at your heartstrings…” (Beach Metro June, 2020). Josh Ritchie

https://www.joshritchiemusic.com/To describe Ritchie as just a singer-songwriter/guitar slinger is a massive understatement. This is a young man with complete control and understanding of his craft. He is an arranger, composer and poet; each song is meticulously thought out to serve the listener his chosen themes, stories and commentary on the world. As a young and ambitious person of colour, Ritchie quickly became fascinated with the relationship between art and activism. Growing up, he was influenced by bands and artists that weren’t afraid to make a statement with their art, and he strives to do the same himself. In 2021, Ritchie put this into practice, releasing a self-titled EP about his experiences growing up BIPOC in rural Ontario. His second studio album, Love at the End of the World, which further explored these themes, had a sold-out launch event at Lee’s Palace in Toronto and went on to obtain attention throughout North America through such outlets as The CBC, Cashbox Radio, Canadian Beats, Record World International, Volatile Weekly and many more. Now Ritchie prepares for the release of his third studio album, So Much More Than a Dream, in 2025. This epic concept album tells the story of a young adult searching for peace and purpose in our increasingly turbulent world. Shawna Caspi

Toronto-based singer-songwriter Shawna Caspi takes her time crafting lyrics that are poetic and meaningful, often using unusual rhymes and surprising turns of phrase. She spent years on the road playing solo shows at festivals and in concert halls, train cars, backyards, and living rooms, supporting her warm, clear voice with intricate fingerstyle guitar accompaniment, and drawing energy from shifting landscapes and long drives through Canada and the United States. After taking a break from the road to rest, reflect, and write, Shawna returns with her fifth album, Hurricane Coming, a collection of raw, deeply personal songs set against a backdrop of colourful cinematic soundscapes. Shawna also created a series of abstract paintings inspired by the songs on the album, seamlessly combining her work as a musician and visual artist.Brian Tremblay’s Lonesome Cowboy Cowboy Podcast is a free publication. Tyler Craig

https://tylercraigmusic.com/Born in Perth and raised amidst the small town rhythms of Eastern Ontario, Tyler learned early that music could be both refuge and community, a lesson that would shape his approach to songwriting. As a teenager, he split his time between hardcore bands and the quiet pull of country music, absorbing the craft of storytelling from writers like Guy Clark and John Prine. That blend of grit and reflection would later define his own voice, earnest, grounded, and deeply human. After nearly two decades of performing mostly behind the scenes, Tyler confronted health challenges in 2021 and 2022. The pause gave him a new perspective, and he returned to music with renewed focus, leaning on the community that had nurtured him since childhood. In 2023, he began writing seriously, quickly amassing the material for his debut album. He recorded it at Brock Zeman’s studio with The Weber Brothers as his backing band, and it was polished by Steve Foley at Ottawa’s Audio Valley Recording Studio. The record captures Tyler’s blend of roots, country, and narrative-driven songwriting.Following his album release show at Bowie’s in Smiths Falls, Tyler has been steadily performing throughout the Ottawa Valley, crafting songs that draw from lived experience and a lifetime of listening. He is currently at work on his second album, slated for early 2026.Brian Tremblay’s Lonesome Cowboy Cowboy Podcast is a free publication. There’s no charge to subscribe. The Family Name

https://familynamemusic.com/Their music carries a playful push-and-pull—Ben leans into newgrass and old-timey roots, while Jacob brings a flair for indie-folk and classic country. The result? A dynamic sound layered with heartfelt lyrics, hope, and hard-earned wisdom, all delivered with brotherly charm and just the right amount of tension. The Family Name have just released “Don’t Choke,” their second single recorded at Little Known Studios. Producer and multi-instrumentalist David James Allen plays several instruments on the track - an upbeat departure from the duo’s typical stripped-down acoustic sound. The duo looks forward to releasing a new EP in 2026 and to announcing supporting concerts and tour dates.Brian Tremblay’s Lonesome Cowboy Cowboy Podcast is a free publication. James Leclaire

Like everyone, James has had his share of challenges. He was an energetic and creative child who was always daydreaming and displaying his imagination through acting and drawing. That, of course, was challenging for James’ academics. He struggled in school, except in art class, in which he excelled. His imagination really sparked when, at 16 years old, a friend put a guitar in James’s hands. Right from the start, James didn’t take lessons and didn’t want to learn other people’s songs. He wanted to write his own songs, create his own characters and tell his own stories. Although a happy individual, he enjoyed writing about life’s struggles. James would pull from experiences that he saw happen to people around him. Stories of love, determination, cheating, abuse, and heartache. While still passionately writing, recording, and performing his own music, James’ storytelling skills, along with his evolving drawing abilities, led him to a successful career as a Storyboard Artist. His hard work paid off. From there, in 2007, he ended up co-founding Jam Filled Entertainment, an animation studio that now has 700 employees with offices in Ottawa, Toronto and Halifax.Shortly after the release of his third solo album in 2015, These Weights, James took a long hiatus from recording and performing music for personal reasons…Reasons he now regrets. But in January 2020, James was slammed with the biggest challenge he had ever faced; his 23-year marriage came to a shocking and devastating end. How did James make it through? James dug deep and wrote songs that were from a place he had never been before. He wrote with new eyes, new ears, and new emotions. His songs now became personal as opposed to observational.country music, traditional music, traditional country, americana, americana music, art, songwriter, old school country, old school country music, old time music, old time country, folk music, folk, storyteller, folk music, folk song, roots, roots music Get full access to Brian Tremblay's Lonesome Cowboy Cowboy Podcast at thelonesomecowboypodcast.substack.com/subscribe

From soft-spoken fingerpicking to full-band barn-burners, singer/songwriter VANCAMP crafts award-winning songs that walk the line between quiet vulnerability and crowd-lifting energy. While rooted in folk, VANCAMP’s sound draws just as much from indie rock and alt-pop — pairing shimmering guitars and layered harmonies with raw, reflective songwriting. The project began in the quiet moments of the pandemic and quickly found traction as live shows returned — rooted in a desire to connect with others through music that doesn’t hide what it means.https://vancampmusic.net/Brian Tremblay's Lonesome Cowboy Cowboy Podcast is a free publication. It’s still a great story!Curated by RUSHfest Scotland founder Steve Brown and Canadian superfan and music journalist Paul Beaulieu, RUSHfest Canada is more than a fan convention—it’s a legacy event with heart, history, and an extraordinary mission: all profits will be donated to Brain Cancer Research at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto in honour of Neil Peart. My apologies to the guys that this went up after the event, but The Lonesome Cowboy works on a first-in, first-out method. Now, both of them have solo careers, and Tom has released his first solo album. “I wanted to make a stripped-down country record without a drummer,” he says. “Most of my songwriting is now done standing by the campfire—I have them year-round—working out words and music in my head. Crash World

After Warjunk's demise Glen took 3 years to study Jazz theory and styles and began to focus on acoustic music with an eye towards a primarily “live” musical endeavor aimed at connecting with an audience in intimate settings and through a wide variety of genres performed acoustically. When Glen ran into Graham at a Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds show in 2014 he proposed the idea of an acoustic duo. Well a year of rehearsals later, CRASH WORLD made their “live” debut on September 5, 2015. Many performances later at such venues as Guilt & Co., Ouisi Bistro, El Camino’s, Cottage Bistro, Slickity Jim’s, The Main, The Cascade, as well as a Jazz Fest 2019 appearance, CRASH WORLD have established themselves as a unique night out. History meets music, with a live radio show vibe and CRASH WORLD's growing audience have shown a hunger for more of what they're offering up. Onion Honey may hail from Ontario’s tech capital, but musicians Dave Pike, Esther Wheaton, Leanne Swantko, and Kayleigh LeBlanc play folk music like an old-fashioned string band. Three years of weekly ‘Banjo Church’ livecasts polished their onstage rapport to a high shine.https://onionhoney.com/homeBrian Tremblay's Lonesome Cowboy Cowboy Podcast is a free publication. James Gedda

James Gedda is an up-and-coming Country and Americana singer-songwriter with a booming voice and a plainspoken honesty in his lyrics. The Crown Point, IN native has drawn comparisons to the likes of Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard with his earthy baritone, and he regularly covers such classics, but what drives him is writing songs and telling stories with modern sensibilities. He's performed in such historic venues as The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, and regularly sings all over Northwest Indiana and the Chicago area on top of having toured through Appalachia & the Southwest. He's released three locally-recorded solo acoustic EP's: Thick As Thieves, Bad Things Happen: Dynaline Sessions Vol. 1, and Hollering in a Bar, along with a pair of singles produced by Midamerican Records in Nashville, TN and is hard at work on getting his debut full-band, full-length album released in early 2025. Will Payne Harrison

While the native Louisianan has established himself as a fixture of the East Nashville scene these days, Harrison still wears his Cajun heritage proudly on his sleeve, as the album takes its name from the small town where he was born and raised. The title track is a country/western tall tale about a “Titan of Tioga” — written from a first-person perspective — poking fun at the irony of being a big fish in a small pond while still evoking a palpable sense of pride for his roots and Main Street USA in general. “Mommas don’t let your sons end up like me,” he croons sardonically (while also shamelessly nodding to a certain famous country song).https://www.willpayneharrison.com/Brian Tremblay's Lonesome Cowboy Cowboy Podcast is a free publication.
