What starts as a case of "my wife got attacked and I am seeking justice" quickly turns into Nic Cage accidentally signing up for the world's most aggressive neighborhood watch. Honestly, reading the terms and conditions would have made sense. Two Crusade Bros have had enough of the Holy Land — too much sun, too much guilt, too many swords in too many people. With an Eastern European gangster accent. Because nobody had ever done that before, and honestly, after watching this movie, you'll understand why.   The cast is genuinely stacked — Nic Cage, Ron Perlman, Christopher Lee, Claire Foy, Stephen Graham — all doing their best in a film that is not repaying that favor.   Will they make it to the monastery? A seasoned assassin. One last job. A city full of bad decisions. You know how this goes.   We do our best to find the silver lining in this remake of the Thai cult classic — brought back to life by the original directors, the Pang Brothers — and honestly? There's more to work with than you might expect. There's action. There's suspense. This week, Bucky’s Basement dusts off another Casting Cage episode with 2007’s National Treasure: Book of Secrets, a sequel that proves American history has even more secret compartments than previously disclosed. Nic Cage returns as Benjamin Gates, this time chasing the mythical City of Gold, Cibola, while reuniting with his whiny daddy (Jon Voight), his ex (Diane Kruger), his trusty sidekick (Justin Bartha), and racing against a lazy treasure hunting Ed Harris. Add in Helen Mirren as Cage’s hot mom as a bonus.   We unpack granddaddy-vs-granddaddy dynamics, questionable treasure hunting ethics, and the glossy, carbon-copy soul of late-2000s Hollywood blockbusters. Tough, tough title, but they somehow persevere: Crafted Superhero orgin stories, fallen punk rock idols, and a former game show contestant destined for better things. Ever wonder what the Founding Fathers did in their spare time? Yeah, us neither. But Nic Cage sure does in the 2004 blockbuster (?) National Treasure! Have you seen it? Yeah? And did you love it?? Yeah??? Hold on, we're going to guess how old you are....   This is one of Nic Cage's most well known movies. It's a Disney flick. It focuses on conspiracy theories, long lost treasure, and American History. Starring Sean Bean, Diane Kruger, Jon Voight, Harvey Keitel, and the dude who's in the Hangover that's hardly in the Hangover. Last night I dreamed I was on a game show where the host had the face of Nic Cage, the buzzer was a jar of bees, and every question was just the word “why” whispered in reverse. I lost. My consolation prize was front-row tickets to  “Brother Ropes and the Two Neighbors”

On this week's Casting Cage episode, the guy's review 2003's Matchstick Men.  You've seen it, right? Ridley Scott flick, believe it or not. Yeah, Sam Rockwell is in it, too. It got 7.3/10 on IMDB and has a 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes...you sure you haven't seen it? No? Hmm. Well, neither had we, actually. Take that back, Bucky did see it a long time ago, but clearly forgot the plot, so...yeah.    Well, we break it all the way down. You into Long Con films, yeah? Good. Juicebox dives into a sci-fi/horror/love? story that explores how far new parents will go to fix a broken relationship. And Oldboy? Bucky's Basement presents a unique episode of Casting Cage this week, where we review a film directed by Nicolas Cage: 2002's "Sonny" (Cage does cast himself an interesting minor role, one Acid Yellow, which we delve into). This film stars James Franco as the titular Sonny, a male prostitute in 1980's (?) New Orleans, pimped out by his mother, Jewel (played by Brenda Blethyn).
