Buff Off The Cuff

Welcome to Midwest loudmouths division, where you’ll find an assortment of topics broken down in vivid detail, including: sports talk, movie fandom, TV show reviews, pop culture takes, and whatever else is under the hood of conversation. Nothing is off limits or taken lightly here. Long form deep dives into what beer you should drink and what pizza to go with the movie you are watching. Let’s get into it. In the end, it’ll all buff out.

    Episode 14: Steve Savard interview

Savard was a prominent news anchor in St. Louis for decades, but he’s a free agent these days. We talked about the rewarding yet harsh business that he made a living out of while getting into local sports teams’ present state and future. Favorite movies, next moves, and what he would tell his younger self if given the chance are also discussed. The tone is light yet informative. Just another interview that sounds more like a conversation.

Episode 13: MLB bosses need to stop messing with the game

Ranting about something Rob Manfred said should come as easy as breathing these days. The MLB Commissioner commented this week that the league’s new extended playoff structure could remain in place next season. An idea as bad remaking “Mad Men.” Before that main segment though, I introduced a new opening segment simply titled, “A Stream of Consciousness.” Enjoy both segments and leave me a review if you would like. Cheers!

  3. 13

Episode 12: Paul Walter Hauser interview

Hauser stood out in the stellar cast of Byron Balasco’s “Kingdom,” but has acted among many great ensemble casts since, such as “BlackKklansman” and “Cobra Kai.” Hauser also starred in “Richard Jewell.” Listen to him talk about a moment on “Da 5 Bloods” where he found himself giving Delroy Lindo a piece of advice. For Paul, the work is the gift.

  4. 12

    Episode 11: Dan Rizzuto interview

Rizzuto has worked on over 111 films/TV shows, including “Deadpool 2,” “Skyscraper,” and “Lucifer.” He recently wrote and directed “Torn: Dark Bullets.” A veteran man of action, Rizzuto talked about the changing landscape in Hollywood for stunt performers and coordinators, how he hopes doors opening for people like Chad Stahelski and Sam Hargrave will lead to more jobs and visibility for an under appreciated craft in the make believe game. At the end of the day, Rizzuto is happy to work. Listen in to hear about which actor he thinks could have held his own in a real fight. It’s an hour long chat that comes off as a conversation, and not just another interview.

Episode 10: Mac Brandt talks ‘Kingdom’, Netflix’s latest hit

Mac Brandt, who sometimes plays Mac on screen, is a seasoned actor. He’s been in 64 different projects, both television and film. One of his memorable roles was on Byron Balasco’s “Kingdom.” The MMA drama packed a punch back in 2014 upon its premiere, but it never found an audience on the DirecTV’s Audience Network. Netflix rectified that this summer, and Brandt talked about the show and its impact.

Episode 9: Interview with St. Louis radio voice, Kevin Wheeler

If you are a St. Louis sports fan, the voice of Kevin Wheeler is well known. A long-time veteran who spent the better part of the last 6 years on one station, Wheeler finds himself in unknown territory. These days, he’s a free agent radio voice currently serving as a utility player on a few different stations. I asked him about the current state of the Cardinals as well as baseball in general, and his future plans. Take a listen and tell a friend.

Episode 8: Interview with Chelsea Ladd, sportswriter for Dugout Dish

Chelsea is a shining example of what can happen when determination, talent, and passion come together. She is the founder of Dugout Dish, a baseball website that focuses on Cardinals baseball and minor league affiliates around the country. Read all about her thoughts on the 2020 St. Louis Cardinals, and how she got her start in the sports writing world. I promise you’ll be inspired by the end. Pardon the technical issues that popped up in the second half. This is only a semi professional podcast. Fun is required. Follow Chelsea on Twitter, @chelseabrooke.

Episode 7: Brotherly check in with Toe Knee

In a candid yet quick conversation on a late Monday night, Buffa invites his brother, Tony, on to discuss the current status of 2020. Lots of laughs. No scripts. Just fun.

  9. 7

Episode 6: What I miss about baseball

With Major League Baseball proposing a comeback this shimmer, I talked about the things I miss about the game. The crack of the bat, a shot to the gap with a guy on first. The Yadier Molina glare. Seeing the player shout. The fireworks after a homer. I gave my take on what the Cardinals should do at DH and how they might fare this season without ... Nolan Arenado. Brew the coffee and tune in.

  10. 6

Episode 5: Interview with ‘Extraction’ actor, Rudhraksh Jaiswal

What if your first big movie was with Chris Hemsworth in a film written by a Marvel Director and directed by a Marvel stunt maestro. “Rudi” talks about working with the superhero gang on an emotional action thriller. Also, get his take on that ambitious yet ambiguous ending. Enjoy the conversation.

  11. 5

Episode 4: Tony Scott film discussion, NHL comeback prospects, and Iron Man 3 revisiting

In a stream of consciousness that took place after midnight with a Stella in hand, Buffa talks about the underrated film capsule of Tony Scott before switching gears to the idea of sports returning amid a pandemic. Finally, he discusses his latest Marvel revisit: Iron Man 3.

  12. 4

Episode 3: Chris Hemsworth’s ‘Extraction’ Review

What if the Marvel gang got back together for a down and dirty thriller set in the dangerous slums of India? That’s what Hemsworth, The Russo Brothers, and Sam Hargrave did here. Is it any good though? I tell you in the latest episode of Buffa’s Buffet.

  13. 3

    Episode 2: Hello again, Starbucks

How many podcast hosts have gotten up at 4:30am, driven to one of the few Starbucks open in their city, and did a podcast in the parking lot while they waited for the drive through to open? Today was my first cup in weeks. Listen in as I talk coffee, Uber, and Door Dash.

  14. 2

Episode 1: What TV Shows to Watch, which ones to skip

In the debut episode, I discuss the greatness of Banshee and the overrated aspect of Tiger King. Also, how the idea of sports returning is far fetched.
