Episode 11 - Just Adam and Joe

WE ARE BACK. Adam and Joe return from a short hiatus (we know it felt long, and we're sorry) with the penultimate episode of season 1. This time we're diving into our own stories of life after the Joe Kubert School. Where did life take us? And what did we learn about ourselves along the way? Only 1 episode left! Reminder to email us at [email protected], give us a call/text at 973-348-5288, and check out our Instagram at @callthemkubies. Btw, Empire Strikes Back came out in 1980.

Episode 10 - In the Zone with Michael Kraiger

For our last interview of season 1, we are joined by the great Michael Kraiger (artist, writer, long time Kubert School teacher and administrator) to talk about his journey from Cleveland to the beautiful city of Dover, NJ. How has he seen the school change in the last 30 years? And how have the students changed with it? Join us to find out. Reminder to email us at [email protected], give us a call/text at 973-348-5288, and check out our Instagram at @callthemkubies.

Episode 9 - Gavin Smith: This isn't Gavin Smith, it's your impression of Gavin Smith

An epic episode (epic-sode?) with our friend Gavin Smith (TMNT, Star Trek, Dead Legends, The Accelerators). Gavin survived the Kubert School with us and went on to work on some of the biggest properties in the world. How do you keep a career in comics going for nearly 20 years? Gavin tells us. Oh, by the way, we're back. Reminder to email us at [email protected], give us a call/text at 973-348-5288, and check out our Instagram at @callthemkubies.

Episode 8 - Gabe Bridwell: "You think YOU'RE a perfectionist?"

You won't believe it, but... we're back. This week we're joined by the great Gabe Bridwell (self-described "background artist to the stars"). Not only is he an amazing technical illustrator, but he was also one of our most demanding teachers (in the best way!). Gabe dives into his experience as a student at the school, as well as a teacher and administrator, and how he helped guide the school's curriculum into the modern age. Reminder to email us at [email protected], give us a call at 973-348-5288, and check out our Instagram at @callthemkubies.

Episode 7 - Emmett Yonemura: Illustrator, Director, Cave Troll

We say it several times this episode, and it's true every time: We're back. Not only are we back (we are), but we're joined by the great Emmett Yonemura (director on X-men '97), who details their journey all the way from graduating with Joe and Adam in 2010, to directing on a huge animated show (with a quick pit stop at GameStop along the way). Reminder to email us at [email protected], give us a call at 973-348-5288, and check out our Instagram at @callthemkubies.

Episode 6 - Fernando Ruiz: "It's too tough out there to say 'No' to stuff"

We are so excited this week to be joined by the great Fernando Ruiz! If you attended the Kubert School within the last 30 years, you were almost certainly taught by Fernando. We talk about everything from his time as a student, his long history with Archie, and his time as an instructor and administrator at the school.  Reminder to email us at [email protected], give us a call at 973-348-5288, and check out our Instagram at @callthemkubies.

Episode 5 - Carli Ihde: "You haven't been where I've been"

This week we're joined by Carli Ihde, who has done everything from pro comic work, whiteboard illustrations, pumpkin carving (on reality TV!), and tattooing since graduating from the Kubert School. Find out how the Kubert School influenced her journey and and how she stayed true to herself along the way. Reminder to email us at [email protected], give us a call at 973-348-5288, and check out our Instagram at @callthemkubies.

Episode 4 - Garry Brown "Falling in Love on the Path to Being a Comic Artist"

Garry Brown (Falling in Love on the Path to Hell, The Massive, Baby Teeth) joins Joe and Adam this week to talk about the dedication and work ethic required to become (and stay) a working comic book artist, as well as moving to a new country to pursue his dream. Even though we were close with Garry all 3 years, we still didn't realize the pressure he was under during his time at the Kubert School. It's an eye-opening look into the realities of being a full time illustrator.  Reminder to email us at [email protected], give us a call at 973-348-5288, and check out our Instagram at @callthemkubies.

Episode 3 - June Brigman "You don't need a degree to draw comics"

This week we're talking to June Brigman (co-creator of Power Pack, artist on Brenda Starr and many DC and Marvel titles), one of our first teachers at the Kubert School! We talk about June's incredible career, her commitment to improving her craft, and how she never pictured herself as a teacher until an opportunity at the Kubert School came up.
