Campfire Apologetics

Equipping everyday Christians with tools to defend their faith in a hostile culture. I’m Mark Hudson. My focus is on presuppositional apologetics, making hard concepts within the presuppositional methodology more accessible, and the deity of Christ.

E 87 - Who Really Wrote the Bible's First Five Books?

Did Moses write the Pentatuech (first five books of the Old Testament)? Modern scholarship proposes that he did not through what is known as the "Documentary Hypothesis." What is the Documentary Hypothesis and what are the underlying assumptions that lead scholars to believe such a theory? Does the Pentateuch have multiple authors or does the orthodox position of Mosaic authorship offer more consistency with what is found in the text itself? Is there evidence to support the hypothesis, or is it grounded solely in the presuppositions of the unbelieving worldview? Stay until the end and find out. Don't forget to like and subscribe!

    E 86 - Sola Scriptura W/Joel Settecase

The 5 solas came out of the reformation period as a response to the Roman Catholic church adopting and teaching doctrines that were not found in scripture. One of those 5 solas is "sola scriptura," which means "scripture alone." Scripture is the highest standard for the Christian. Not the church or tradition. Join Joel Settecase of  @TheThinkInstitute  and Mark as they have a conversation about this important issue. Do protestant christians ignore church tradition or the teachings of church fathers? Is scripture our only authority? These questions and many more are talked about. Remember to like and subscribe.

    E 85 - God Cannot Contradict Himeslf

On this episode of Campfire Apologetics, Mark discusses some of the attributes of God's nature and his word (The Bible), demonstrating that God cannot do that which is against his very nature. Does the Bible contradict itself, or is the problem actually in us and our understanding of the text? Did God get it wrong, or did we? How do we ground what a contradiction even is? Can the unbeliever appeal to the law of non contradiction without God? Dive in and explore these supposed contradictions and learn how to think through them. Remember to like and subscribe.

E 84 - Are You Just Neurons Firing? W/Eric Hernandez

On this episode of Campfire Apologetics,  @EricHernandez  joins Mark to discuss how the mind and the brain are distinct entities, and why this is important in the discussion of worldviews. They discuss the ontology of the mind and brain, epistemic arguments, causal closure, C.S. Lewis' argument from reason and more. Stick around for the whole episode and remember to like and subscribe!

E 83 - The Controversial Belief That Rewrites End Times

On this episode of Campfire Apologetics, Mark sits down with Jeremiah Nortier of  @TheApologeticDog  to discuss the growing eschatological (end times) view of "hyper preterism." In simple terms, hyper preterism is the belief that all prophecies pertaining to the "end times" have been fulfilled and are in our past. Are we living in the new heavens and new earth? Was everything fulfilled when God judged Jerusalem in 70 AD? Did Jesus already return? Is this just another secondary issue, or a damnable heresy? Stick around for the whole discussion and learn new fun words like "preterism" that you can impress your friends with.

  6. 83

E 82 - The Assumption That Stops People From Seeing the Truth

On this episode of Campfire Apologetics, Mark discusses foundational worldview assumptions that block people from examining true facts of history in their proper context. Both believer and non believer have presuppositions about reality, but who's presuppositions can answer life's hardest questions? Who's presuppositions can actually make sense of the facts surrounding the resurrection of Jesus Christ? Who can make sense of the context in which these facts exist? Whose assumptions lead to a correct interpretation of history?

  7. 82

E 81- The Information Problem Naturalism Can't Solve

On this episode of Campfire Apologetics, Mark talks about the theory of information. What is information and where does it come from? These are questions that we probably have not stopped to think about, but have profound implications on our worldviews and whether or not our worldviews can account for information. Can natural processes produce information or does it always require a rational mind? Mark also dives into the foundational assumptions of naturalism when dealing with the topic of information. We often times take things for granted and information is no different.

  8. 81

    E 80 - Tribalism is Tearing Us Apart—Here's Why

Join Mark, Greg Boulden  @BeBoldInterviews  Katie Ladzinski  @ReclaimedGroundMedia  and Jacob Vasquez  @TruthfulHope  for a discussion on tribalism and identity politics. How are these things tearing America apart? What are they? Can Christians disagree with President Trump? How can we use discernment in political issues to guard us from becoming sold out to one "team?" How should Christians view politics? Learn how we can disagree without becoming enemies. E 79 - Marxism and Feminism Exposed!

In the episode, Mark and Dr. Tony Costa of  @tonycostatorontoapologetic5307  discuss Marxism. What exactly is Marxism? How is it related to communism and socialism? In what ways has Marxism led to feminism, and what impact do these things have on western culture? Is Marxism compatible with Christianity or American culture? Dr. Costa answers all these questions and more. Stay until the end! like alyways, remember to like and subscribe.

E 78 - Responding to Tim Pool and Bill Maher About God

On this episode Mark interacts with and responds to claims made by popular figures. Tim Pool and Andrew Wilson discuss the nature of God and whether or not God can make a god more powerful than himself or if he can make a rock so heavy that even he can't it. If God can do anything, why couldn't he do these things? Bill Maher and Alan RItchson debate whether or not the Bible is trustworthy and if Paul truly experienced the risen Christ on his way to Demascus. Did Paul only see a cross in the sky? Did he truly encounter Jesus? Do Christians believe in magic? Is magic compatiable with Christianity? All of these issues are addressed in this episode. Be sure to stay until the end!

  11. 78

E 77 - The Argument Beneath All Arguments

On this Episode of Campfire Apologetics, Mark digs into the weeds of what transcendentals are and what it means to argue transcendentally. What are transcendentals? What makes things like knowledge, logic, evidence, etc meaningful? What are the laws of logic and how do they apply to transcendeal argumentation? All of these are important questions when dealing with this topic, and presuppositional apologetics.

  12. 77

E 76 - Stewarding Our Finances and Bodies

On this episode of Campfire Apologetics I sit down with Justin Johnson of  ⁨@highcallingfitness⁩  and Dominion Wealth Strategies to examine how christians should steward their finances and bodies. Should christians care about wealth? Should we save our money or worry about passing anything on to our children or even our grandchildren? How should we eat and care for our bodies as men? We also discuss the benefits of being strong mentally and physically in regards to being husbands, fathers, providers, and protectors. We even get into the topic of TRT and how we should view these types of medicines. Are they beneficial or completely off limits? E 75 - Can't We All Just Get Along?

After various divisive comments from a recent episode addressing Kirk Cameron's new views on Hell, I felt it necessary to address 1. The comments and 2. How we as Christians should navigate these kinds of conversations and disagreements that we have over specific doctrines. Does anyone have perfect theology? Should we divide or sparate over issues of end times views, baptism, worship, soteriology etc? Does everyone have to agree on the specifics of these issues to be considered family? Are there primary and secondary issues in the Bible when it comes to salvation? Stick around and find out.

  14. 75

E 74 -Father and Son Tackle Big Questions

On this episode of Campfire Apologetics, I'm joined by my oldest son Asher to answer some big questions. We thought it would be a great idea to have him join me to ask me some tough questions as I attempt to answer in a way that a 10 year old will understand. I flip the script on him a bit and make him answer his own questions. Some of those questions include, "How do you know Jesus is real?", "What do you think heaven will be like?", "What do you think God was doing before the world was created?" and many more. Stay until the end to hear all questions and don't forget to like and subscribe!

E 73 - Valued At Conception: Abortion is Abominable

n this episode I sit down with Jacob Vasquez of  @TruthfulHope  to discuss his masters thesis on the issue of abortion. Jacob argues that naturalism cannot explain three facts about humanity (consciousness, rationality, and human dignity) that both pro-life and secular pro-life advocates agree are components in what gives someone personhood. Christianity teaches that all human beings are made in the Imago Dei (image of God) and because of this we have intrinsic value and worth. The Christian worldview is the only worldview that can give an answer for what makes a human valuable. What grounds value, consciousness, rationality, or human dignity? I'll give you a little spoiler. It's not naturalism.

E 72 - Is Hell Eternal? Responding to Kirk Cameron

In recent christian news, popular evangelist and actor Kirk Cameron shared that he is rethinking Hell. The position that he is leaning towards is known as conditionalism. In this episode, I break down what conditionalism is, and whether or not it is biblical. Can a case be made for the position from the Bible? I also offer some of my own thoughts and critiques to the position. Should we as christians divide over this kind of thing? Is this a primary or secondary issue? Would deviating from the tradition view of Hell put you in danger of being a heretic? Leave a comment and let me know your thoughts! #hell #podcast #christian #conditionalism #eternal #conscious #torment #Bible #Study #Jesus #Christ #heretic

  17. 72

E 71 - They Died To Gather, (What's Your Excuse?)

On this episode I address the question, "do Christians need to go to church?" Many Christians are under the assumption that church attendance is optional, or that they "are the church," but are these things biblical? Is Church attendance optional for the practicing Christian? What about church hurt? Are we ok facing life's battles on our own? How will we hold ourselves accountable? All of these questions and more are answered. Stay until the end and be sure to like and subscribe for more content like this!

  18. 71

E 70- Without God, Love and Justice Don't Matter

In this episode I explain what a worldview is by using the acronym T.A.K.E.S (Theology, anthropology, knowledge, ethics, salvation) and explain why beliefs are not private, meaningless, harmless enterprises, but actually carry real weight and consequences in the real world. Why do beliefs matter at all? Why do Christians care so much about what the rest of the world believes? Can things like love and justice be meaningful without God or do they end up being inconsistent and arbitrary?

  19. 70

E 69- Answering Objections To Calvinism W/ The Twitchy Theologian

On this episode of Campfire Apologetics, I welcome Jerry Duckworth (The Twitchy Theologian) onto the channel to discuss some of the toughest objections to Calvinism and how to answer said objections. Do we have free will? How does a calvinist define free will? Does Calvinism naturally lead to fatalism? Are we all just puppets that God is forcing and coercing into various areas of life or do we actually make morally free decisions in which t we are responsible? Jerry and I do our best to answer all of these questions. Stick around until the end.

  20. 69

    E 68 - Breaking Down Hard Concepts

On this episode of Campfire Apologetics, I sit down with Dr. James Anderson who is the professor of theology and philosophy at Reformed Theological Seminary to help Christians better understand hard concepts within presuppositional apologetics. Concepts like epistemology, formal logic, preconditions of intelligibility and more. These things can be daunting and intimidating when trying to enter into the world of apologetics. We consider the concept of a worldview and the inherent burden of it's defense. Every individual possesses a worldview, whether they are aware of it or not. Learn how to defend your faith in a thoughtful and coherent manner.

  21. 68

E 67- Can We Really Trust Our Brains?

In this episode, I explore the question of whether the mind and the brain are truly the same thing. Is the mind purely material, or is there something immaterial about our thoughts and consciousness? Are our thoughts nothing more than physical processes in the brain—and if so, can we actually trust them? What do these questions reveal about the nature of reality itself? Stick around for the full episode as we dig into these deep and foundational issues.#mind #brain #philosophy #cognition #cognitive #thoughts #material #immaterial #dualist #God #Jesus #soul #saved

E 66 - The Providence That Saved My Life

On this episode of Campfire Apologetics, I get very personal. I wanted to share my story of my journey to faith in Jesus Christ. Testimonies, while subjective, can be a powerful way to witness and evangelize to people. Our experience must align with scripture and with the ultimate reality that is only found in Christ. I share details about my upbringing, earlier years, deep sins, struggles with depression, and ultimately how God pulled me out of the depths of despair. #Jesus #providence #grace #podcast #love #God #saved #testimony

    E 64 - Why Faith and Reason Must Co-exist

What is reasoning? What is logic? How do these two concepts work together and what do they say about faith and reality? Can the unbelieving worldview ground or give a foundation for logic and reason or do they inherently steal from God to make their case? What is circular reasoning? If these questions interest you, then this episode is for you. In this episode I do my best to explain why reasoning requires God, and why ultimately all worldviews at their foundation reason in a circular manner. E 63 -James Webb's Stunning Secrets W/Dr. Jason Lisle

On this episode I sat down with one of my favorite apologists/scientists, Dr. Jason Lisle, and talked about the most recent discoveries made by the James Webb Space Telescope. Jason talks about the predictions that he made vs the predictions made by secular scientists before launching the telescope into space. Which predictions came true? Which predictions align with Gods word and what he has already revealed to us? What rescuing devices are secular scientists conjuring up to protect their worldview and presuppositions? Check out Dr. Lisle's work here: https://biblicalscienceinstitute.comSorry about the audio. My mic was a bit low at times. In this episode of Campfire Apologetics, I explore the world of christian epistemology (how we know what we know) through the lens of two well known philosophical ideas: Descartes' "I think, therefore I am" and Berkley's "If a tree falls in the forrest...." I walk through different epistemological systems such as, rationalism, empiricism, existentialism etc and contrast them with the only worldview that can truly ground truth, logic, induction, and reality: the Christian worldview. Many new thought and new age ideas have crept into the western Church, one of which being reincarnation. Thats the idea that we are recycled into new life forms when we die to work off past sins. E42 - Is Jesus God? What Stephens Vision Tells Us.

In this episode I wanted to zero in on a topic that I believe is important in apologetics. The deity of Christ. This topic can be engaging for witnessing to Atheists, Muslims, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, and many more worldview perspectives. This episode specifically addresses Stephen's vision in Acts 7 and how it powerfully supports the truth that Jesus is Yahweh, while also cross referencing Daniel, the Gospels and the early Church. E41 - Proving Jesus is God From the Gospel of Mark

Many claim that the deity of Jesus was a later invention -- a doctrine developed long after Jesus walked the earth. While the Gospel of John clearly presents a high view of Christ, critics argue that earlier writings, like the Gospel of Mark, do not. But is that really true? In this episode, we take a closer look at the Gospel of Mark -- widely considered the earliest of the four gospels -- and uncover powerful evidence that it presents Jesus not just as a teacher or prophet, but as God Himself. Discover why the divinity of Christ wasn't a later development, but part of the story from the very beginning. #Jesus #deity #Mark #gospel #Divine #God #Bible #teach #listen #podcast #christian #faith

E40 - Thinking God's Thoughts: Logic, Fallacies, and the Christian Mind

In this episode of Campfire Apologetics, we dive deeper into the world of logic and informal fallacies, building on the previous episode about the "Euthyphro Dilemma. We'll explore why understanding logic is vital for apologetics, and why apologetics is vital for evangelism. I'll cover the foundational three laws of logic, then walk through common fallacies like the straw man, ad hominem, equivocation, reification, false dilemma, begging the question, complex question and the no true Scotsman fallacy. We'll look at how these errors in reasoning often show up in conversation with non-believers and how to spot them. On this episode of Campfire Apologetics, Mark sits down with Anthony Uvenio from The Reformed Rookie to explore a powerful framework for defending the Christian faith: C.O.D.E. --Causation, Order, Design, and Ethics/Evil. We break down each element and show how this simple structure can help every believer engage skeptics with clarity, confidence, and a Biblical worldview. Whether you're new to apologetics or a seasoned defender of the faith, this conversation will be an encouragement to you. #defend #worldview #apologetics #Jesus #Lord #Christ #God #love #think #philosophy #engage #faith #Bible #study

E38 - The Euthyphro Dilemma Debunked: Why Morality Can't Exist Without God.

In this episode of Campfire Apologetics Mark tackles one of the most common challenges to the Christian faith, and more specifically the Christian view of morality. The Euthyphro dilemma. Is something good because God says it is, or does God command something because it is good? Many skeptics believe this dilemma puts Christian morality in a bind-- but it's actually built on a false premise and fallacious argumentation. We will explore the logic behind this challenge, break down the fallacy it commits, and offer the Biblical answer to the dilemma which is that God is the standard of goodness. His nature defines what is good, and morality is grounded in His unchanging character. If you have struggled with this particular challenge then this episode is for you.
