Capt. Marty's Outer Banks Fishing Report & Stories

Kind of a breezy day yesterday so that put a slight damper on SOME things. That east wind did help out in a few different areas though. I'll explain all of that in this report. 

Hard to believe we are halfway through the month of September already! Got lots to talk about. Sailfish offshore, Red Drum in the back country... All great things!

Welcome to a brand new week! Lots of stuff happened over the weekend. Saturday was the better the two days but I'll give you the good, the bad and the ugly coming up in this report.

 Let us never forget what happened on this day 25 years ago. God Bless America and God bless the great fishing we've had! 

We are rolling into a weekend with tons of opportunity. Lots to talk about in this report. Going fishing is not something you will be disappointed in doing!

 We are rolling along midweek with some pretty decent fishing in today's report. 

 I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend!! Got a few things to talk about in this report even though it was a tad breezy in a few spots. 

Big holiday weekend coming up and lots to talk about on the fishing front AGAIN! Yeah, September has started out great! Will it stay that way? Only time will tell but lets take what we can get today!

My goodness did we have a great day offshore yesterday. Fishing is starting out fantastic for the month of September and it's only going to get better as we progress into the fall months. I'll get you in the know in this report.

Welcome to September! Fishing is good in a lot of spots and hunting season is right around the corner so I'm double happy today! I'll fill you in on what and where the fish are in this report.

We're almost done with August and fishing is a tad slower then what it has been, and that is still above average for August! So don't let that steer you the wrong way. I'll explain what I mean in this report.

Happy Tuesday everyone! Like the weekend report, we have another FULL fishing report for you. This is definitely August fishing at its' finest!! 

Happy Monday everyone! First day of school for a lot of kids so I hope they have a great first day. This weekend was PACKED with fishing all over. I'll get you up to speed in this report. 

 Lots to talk about today in the report and a special grander alert! Sounds like the gulf stream conveyer belt is setting us up for a nice weekend of fishing! 

Happy Thursday!! We have a lot to talk about in this report. Offshore, nearshore, back country.. the whole nine yards! Again, forgive me for the sound. Trying to get the kinks worked out with this new phone. I'll make Justin fix it for me!

Sorry if I sound like I'm talking through a tin can. I got a new phone and I'm still getting use to it. We are in the middle of some of the best bill fishing of the summer. I'll get you up to speed with that and all the other fishing in this report.

The Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournament is in the books! I'll update you on the finals of all areas of the tournament plus the fishing from over the weekend in this report.

Wrapping things up out here at the 43rd Annual Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournament.

While we wait for fish to be weighed we wandered down the dock a few feet to chat with Hunter Smith of ChillyWater! What a delicious refreshing beverage to sip on a hot day like today!

As we await the arrival of the tournament fleet we talk with Capt. Marty about how the photo verification system works as well as the polygraph test. These two process can play BIG into the tournament outcome!

Capt. Marty has come out of the scoring room and has given us an update on the tournament standings and what happened with the blue marlin that the Water Tight was hooked up to the last time we checked in.

It's the fourth and final day of the tournament and we are hooked up right now! The Water Tight is hooked up with a sizeable blue marlin! More updates on that and the final results of the tournament heading your way!!

Coming into the final day of the Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournament and it's still anybody's game!! I'll talk about that and all the other fishing taking place in this report.

Coming up on Day 3 of the 43rd Annual Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournament. I'm tired but I'm doing just fine. Very happy to be here every year. I'll get you clued in on how things have been in the tournament and how fishing has been elsewhere as well!

Wrapping things up for Day 2 of the tournament with a rundown of who did what and a quick conversation with Jenn and Nancy from the Boatbuilders Tournament as well!

Capt. Marty provides us with some interesting tournament stats that you can find on the CatchStat app. We also talk to our friend Brandi who has been a volunteer bartender here for years.

Eric Scheavy of the Jesus Freak joins the program out here at the docks to tell a crazy story from out in the ocean yesterday while fishing. It's something Capt. Marty said he has never heard of happening before, so you know its gonna be good!

Capt. Marty gets us up to speed with the current standings of the tournament and decides to crack a few jokes along the way.

It's Day Two of the Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournament. Before we get into tournament talk Capt. Marty entertains Kristy Hebert, CEO of Wards Marine Electric and podcast host of the Wards Way Podcast. She came up from Florida just to help broadcast the tournament. We are thankful to have her here and we hope you will tune in to her show as well, on all your podcast channels and YouTube.

Capt. Chip Shafer stops by the media table to chat it up with Capt. Marty about his fun times fishing and about his boat down in Costa Rica fly fishing for billfish. You can hear the joy these two had reminiscing on old times and how things were and how they are now.

One of the greatest marlin stories to come out of the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center happened with Capt. Harry Baum on the JoBoy back in 1974. I was still a young mate down in Ponce Inlet, FL and my brother in-law was already a mate with Big Al Foreman at Oregon Inlet. I called my brother in-law all excited one day about a sailfish I had caught, and he burst my bubble with the story you're about to hear...

We are rolling into tournament weekend at Pirate's Cove! Alice Kelly Tournament is Sunday and the Billfish Tournament starts next Tuesday. I'll talk about that and all of what took place in our waters in this report.

We are fixing to knock ANOTHER month in the head. This year has flown! White Marlin fishing has been on FIRE. That's a good sign heading into August for the Alice Kelly Memorial Tournament and the Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournament coming up in August. I'll talk more about that and all the other fishing in this report.

I'm back at my homestead in Engelhard from Manteo. I enjoyed my time at the 23rd Annual Dare County Boat Builders Foundation Tournament. The weather was super scrappy the entire time but they all caught fish and there were also fish caught over the weekend.
