Capt. Marty's Outer Banks Fishing Report & Stories

Good golly!! How about those thunder boomers yesterday afternoon?! Didn't really affect the fishing too much because I'm seeing some of the best billfishing I've seen in a while. I'll talk more about that and what else is biting in this report.

I hope all of you had a great 4th of July weekend! Got a lot to talk about in this report. My reports must be catching on because I got a text from Tom Cruise over the weekend.... how did he get my number?! I'll explain everything...

The theme to this report is "opportunity". Lots to talk about in this report, especially the marlin fishing. If that's what you want to hear then this is the report for you! I hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th of July. Happy 250th Birthday to our great country!

We have a BIG weekend on the horizon with the 250th birthday of our country. What does that mean for fishing? Well, it's hot out and it has caused the fishing to get a tad scrappy, however there are still good numbers of fish being caught in certain areas. I'll tell you all about where and what's being caught in this report.

Welcome to July!! Gonna be seeing some hot weather in the coming days. Starting to see some August-like fishing. If that doesn't make sense to you, listen to this report and it will become crystal clear what I mean. 

Last day of the month! There are a few things to talk about in the fishing report, nothing super spectacular but there has been some action to report on. Plus, a gold star catch I'll tell you about also!

We're about to knock June in the head! Wow, the months are flying by. The 4th of July is on the horizon and it's going to be a great one. Got a bit of an interesting fishing report from the weekend so listen up!

It's the last day of the Hatteras Marlin Club Billfish Release Tournament. It's anybody's game! We will see how it all ends up, but in the meantime I'll paint you a picture of how fishing has been all over in this report!

I'm still down in Hatteras having fun! Come by and see me at the 67th Annual Hatteras Marlin Club Billfish Tournament. Things are still a tad on the scrappy side but there was a gold star catch out of the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center. I'll get you up to speed with all of that in this report. 

Watching the wind blow in Hatteras! All the boats in the tournament took a lay day yesterday so not much to report on there but there were some scrappy catches across all fronts. It was a bumpy day all around but again, some fish were caught. I'll tell ya about it in this report.

Again, I'm LIVE and in-person at the 67th Annual Hatteras Marlin Club Billfish Release Tournament. I'll give you the current standings on what's going on in the tournament at the end of this report but fishing in all honesty fishing has been very scrappy lately with the wind. I'll fill you in on all the details of what was caught in this report.

I'm coming to you live from the 67th Annual Hatteras Marlin Club Tournament all week long! I'll be keeping the score for the tournament and it is so good to be down here! Kind of a "pick, pick, pick" weekend when it came to the fishing. I'll get you caught up from the weekend and what you can look forward to this week in this report.

Marty takes the show on the road and reels in some unforgettable stories from his days as a captain and mate at one of the most iconic fishing destinations on the Outer Banks. Joining him are Oregon Inlet Fishing Center GM/owner Stephen King, along with Dare County Boatbuilders Tournament Co-Directors Nancy Brown and Jennifer James. From laughs and legendary tales to a celebration of local history and tradition, this episode is packed with great memories and even better company. We had an absolute blast recording this one, and we think you'll have just as much fun listening. And yes... you'll notice a little echo, but that's just the sound of good times bouncing around the room! 

Not gonna tell a sea story... fishing straight up wasn't the best and it's not looking like its gonna be the greatest today either. Weather is not cooperating, however where I live we need the rain. So I guess we will be taking the good with the bad in this report. 

Happy Thursday!! I thoroughly enjoyed spending some time at my alma mater yesterday, The Oregon Inlet Fishing Center. Wow, what a view from the top deck of that building! Fishing yesterday was pretty daggum good too! I'll give you all the details plus tell ya a quick story at the end about the marlin out in front of the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center in this report.

Nice offshore catches yesterday, along with a solid inshore and back country bite as well. I'll get you up to speed with it all plus if you're around the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center today at 1pm I will be there with Justin recording my fishing show so come by and say hello! I'd love to meet you!

Fishing report for today is gonna be a tad less than what has been happening, weather hasn't been our friend in this regard but I'll tell you about where you could possibly go to find some fish in this report.

Happy June 15th! Half way through the month already, can you believe it? We have a lot to talk about plus a Big Rock Tournament wrap up, a tad bit of drama surrounding that. I'll get you up to speed with what went down plus the scattered, mixed, hodgepodge of fishing that took place over the weekend in this report. 

There's A LOT to talk about in today's report. Fish caught in all places, even some species caught in places you may not expect to find them. You'll understand what I mean when we get to the back country report. I'll also get you up to speed with what's going on with the Big Rock Tournament down in Morehead City!

We are midway through the Big Rock Tournament and there's a bit to talk about on that front. Other than that I'm gonna talk to you more about "the river of Mahi-Mahi" offshore and what's biting in other places up and down the beach in this report.

Seems like the fishing is being rather consistent on all fronts when it comes to the catches, even with the wind shift. I'll get you up to speed with what was caught and also give you an update on the Big Rock Fishing Tournament at the end of today's report.

It's finally Friday!!! We are about to kick off the Big Rock this weekend down in Morehead City and I know a lot of folks are excited about that. But let's talk about what's going on around here (there's A LOT) and what the weekend looks like in this report.

Happy June 4th, for whatever that's worth haha. Again not a whole lot to talk about in this report but I will tell you what has been biting and what will likely continue to bite once the lines go back in the water. Like Capt. Omie Tillett use to say "Even the fish need a day off too"!

We had a good, stiff breeze yesterday out of the northeast which put a damper on the fishing but I will be giving you a recap of the spring so far and a look at what's to come in this report.

The squalls and the rain that came through put a slight damper on the fishing BUT there was still fishing that took place none the less! I'll let you know where and what was caught in this report.

Happy June!! Had a pretty good weekend of fishing even with the wind shift late Saturday and into Sunday. I'll tell you all about what was caught on all fishing fronts from the weekend in this report.

LOTS to talk about in this show. From how to book a charter and the many tournaments the captain is involved in, to Dare Day Dockside at Wanchese Marina, the Battle Scarred Outdoors Heroes Benefit Fishing Tournament and recognizing the many sponsors of Capt. Marty programing we have a jam packed show full of GREAT information. 

Lots to talk about in this report of some really good fishing!! The weather laid out yesterday and the fleets were able to get out. Wasn't many places yesterday that the fish weren't biting! I'll get you up to speed with everything and take a look at the weekend as well. Also, GO HURRICANES (our home state NHL Hockey team, that is)!!!

We are about done with May and its been a good fishing month. A tad breezy yesterday but there was still fish being caught! I'll give you the rundown of all fishing fronts in this report. 

WOW!! We are almost done with May! That went by quick!! The theme for today's report is "Variety is the spice of life". You'll understand more what I mean about that in this report. By the way.. I hope all of you enjoyed your Memorial Day holiday. First two days of the weekend were really good, then the wind kicked up on us a little bit. Still a lot to talk about. I'll get you up to speed from the weekend in this report. 

Wayyyy back in 1984 when Capt. Marty fished on the The Reelin he had a young rookie mate from California named Mike Pullin. One of Mike's first trips offshore with Capt. Marty was on a day when The Fishin' Frenzy (yes, the same one from Wicked Tuna), captained by Mike Clarkin at the time, experienced a tad bit of trouble offshore. It was Capt. Marty and Mate Mike Pullin to the rescue!! While a scary time for the boat and crew, there is part of this story that is a little comical. Listen and you understand what we mean.

It's like groundhog day yall!! Still the same great fishing we've been having. I'll run through the list of what was caught all over in this report.  I hope you all have a safe Memorial Day weekend and take the time to remember those who gave their lives for us to have the freedom we love and appreciate. 

One word to use when talking about the fishing lately: GREAT! Let's try to count how many times I use that word in today's report. I tried once already and I lost count haha!

A lot of our offshore boats are getting geared up for the first day of the tournament. I'll get you up to speed with all the great things in this report. Kinda hit and miss offshore over the weekend, depending on where you were. It was either really a HIT or really a MISS. Near shore, beach and the piers seemed to be doing pretty good all over, and the back country is starting to pick up more and more. I'm gonna get you up to speed with it all plus talk a little bit about where I'll be this week, which is the Hatteras Village Offshore Open Tournament.

Yesterday was pretty much a wash for the offshore fleet, but that's ok. Capt. Omie Tillett use to say "sometimes the fish need a day off too"! There was a little bit of action in other areas of the Outer Banks though. I'll get you up to speed with all that plus talk a little bit about something happening next week you may be interested in!

It's been hit and miss over the last few days on all fishing fronts, however we do have a new species in the mix! I'll tell you what that species is and what has been caught in this report.

MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU!!! Hahaha I know "don't quit my day job". My day job though is getting yall up to speed with what's been caught here on our lovely Outer Banks. It was kinda hit and miss depending on where you were. I'll get you up to speed with that and give the final standings of the Ocracoke Surf Fishing Tournament in this report.

With Artemis II making headlines, Capt. Marty takes a trip back in time and shares what it was like to witness the historic Apollo 17 moon launch in 1972 while out fishing on the open ocean. He also recalls another unforgettable Apollo mission that left a lasting impression. In this episode, Capt. Marty reflects on those incredible moments and the memories he still carries with him today. 

We've made it to May! Kind of hit and miss offshore but the nearshore, surf and pier bite made up for it with good catches and some new species for the year to report on. I'll get you up to speed with all of that, the back country fishing bite and what's going on with the Ocracoke Surf Fishing Tournament.
