CBMFP - Comic Bastards

On this episode of the CBMFP we sit down with the creator and writer of Swerve, Jon Judy. He shares with us the some of the steps that he went through to make this book a reality. We chat about some “rasslin”, comics, the business and everything in between. So sit back and enjoy this look into what it takes to make comic book magic (It made my miniseries of the of 2012). Well it’s the first CBMFP of 2013 and what better way to start things off then talking about Marvel in 2013! There is SO much news!! I hope you like monster trucks because we’re talking about them. We cover some Guardians of the Galaxy news. Also please help writer Peter David in his time of need by picking up his work. Well I hate to say it but the trio that makes up the CBMFP is currently scattered into the wind which means we were unable to record a brand spanking new episode for you this week. We did however make a plan for such an event and have collected all of our ending segments for you to enjoy in one sitting. If you're unfamiliar with the ending of our show because you turn us off the minute someone says Google Plus then you've been missing out on some classic radio style storytelling! Sit back and get ready for that intense music bed that makes me laugh literally every time I hear it and fear not we'll return next week with a new episode and maybe even the next chapter of this saga! Well we've posted our lists, both good and bad, and now it's time for the second podcast covering all of the BAD from comic books in 2012. If you didn't hear the first episode covering all of the GOOD then give it a listen here. You may have noticed that the last episode was a bit shorter than usual, well good news everybody this episode is longer than usual. We just took those missing ten minutes and slapped it on this episode. Tons of laughs up ahead so enjoy as we give the comic industry the business.

This is it! Comic Bastards’ 2012 Comic Book Round Up - Part 1 - The Good. Wow that’s a long ass title. In the episode Dustin and I share what we and the other writers on the site choose for their most memorable comic book experiences of the 2012 year. Now keep in mind that Part 2 of our year in review will have the BAD and we all know that’s where the LOLZ are. CBMFP is GO!

This time around we cover how DC wants its bad guys to stay in one series. Then we talk about some very old James Gunn news. Then it’s Tool Box time! We do a little X-Men fixing—which turns out to mostly opinion and rambling. The long awaited and CBMFP favorite, The Legend of Luther Strode gets read by both of us! Other titles included in the episode are: Colder #2, My Little Pony #1, Alpha Girl #5 and The Shadow Vol. 1. CBMFP is GO!

Well this week we tackle a ton of news stories, all of which you can find on the site and read along with us! The big heavies are Skull and Shark, Ghostface Killa's lawsuit and an incident that involved some Marvel's collector's glasses. Then we hit you up with some "Comics on Your TV" with some Super Fuckers talk and a pretty big Arrow update, but we're not done there as we talk about the upcoming Amazon show somewhat announced this week. We end as we always do with comic that we've read for the week as we check in with Bedlam, the trade paperback for The New Deadwardians, Lot 13 from DC Comics and wrap up with Thor God of Thunder. The CBMFP is go! This week we bring you what little news occurred during the holiday week including Marvel's detailed Age of Ultron event, also some Dark Horse comics news and sales as well. Then we tackle a bit of news about Batman: Earth One volume 2 and wind down the news segment with the Top 10 of Bleeding Cool Magazine's recent release of the Top 100 in the comic industry. As for books we've read, hold on to your hats as we talk about the new Captain America, Clone, Comeback, The Grand Duke and our Hardcover Indie Corner pick of Contropussy!

This week we talk about the “controversy” that is Tony Harris and his “no fat chicks rule”. There’s a G.I. Joe reboot in case you didn’t know. Oh and Honey Boo-Boo has a comic, yeah that’s a thing. Have you seen the covers Five Weapons? It looks pretty darn cool huh? There’s a touch of Wonder Con news we bring up. Books that get read are DC’s Lot 13, The All New X-Men, Chasing the Dead, Where is Jake Ellis! Wow what a rush?! CBMFP is GO!

We this week we tackle that big ass news of Marvel and the Brooklyn Nets teaming up for a comic book! Nah just kidding do talk about that, but the big news is Disney buying Star Wars! Then we bring you some Comics On Your TV where we cover Arrow, the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and a little bit of The Walking Dead. As for books we've read we've got Whispers #4, Deadhorse #6, as well as some early books Freelancers #1, Shadowman #1!

This week the CBMFP team talks about Matty Vaughn bouncing on the latest X-Men flick. I talk uncalled for shit about Bryan Singer and his work. Clark Kent walks away from the paper game in case you didn’t know. The Batmobile tour is a thing that is coming to your town comic book/football lover…maybe. Comic wise, we cover: Sleepy Hollow, Bedlam, Happy, Swerve, Wolverine’s Max Book, Killogy and then some. CPMFP is GO!

Wow there sure is a lot of news this week. Crossed is becoming a movie, Romero is going to be writing something for Marvel, Boom’s Higher Earth is over, DC shows off the last of their Premier line with Flash Point and Superman. Whew, all of that and so much more! The books that get discussed are Black Mass, With the Earth above Us, Friends with Boys, Doctor Muscles, Superman Earth One vol. 2 and more. CBMFP is GO!

It was New New York Comic Con this weekend and so we had a ton of news to cover. We hit up just about every companies list of announcements ranging from: Dark Horse, Oni Press, Dynamite and IDW. Marvel and DC were dancing around their announcements at the time of recording so you'll have to check back next week for that. We also have a special guest stop by that we totally told you about last week. Jonathan Swinney from Pinwheel Press stops in to talk about their comic Man of God and gives a lot of great insight into what it takes for an independent comic company to get its start. We only talk about a few books this week including: BloodShot #4, Utopiates and Anti #2. CBMFP is GO!

Episode Fifty of the CBMFP brings you some comic porn parody with Superman Vs. Spiderman XXX. Then it’s off to the topic of The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys and its upcoming comic. After that, we go over a few things that you can expect at upcoming NYCC ‘12. Comic wise, we cover a little bit of Hit-Girl #3, Dead Man’s Party, Craftsman Bolt-On System Saves the Justice League #1 and Man of God. CBMFP turns fifty, and it is GO!

If it's CBMFP time again then it means that we are going to steal an hour of your life! News: We talk about Mark Millar being brought on as a consultant for 20th Century Fox and their comic book movies. DC and Grant Morrison want "Multiversity" to be a thing. Not only does all of that happen-- we end up talking about the comics that we read!! Comics: Dustin had the chance to read JMS' Superman: Earth One Vol:2. He shares that awesomeness with us. As for everything else-- Dragon Age: Those Who Speak #2, Posers #1, Idolized #2, Deadhorse #5.

Hello everyone, this week on the CBMFP we break out the old tool box and fix the notorious Batman villain, The Scarecrow. Then we cover the Rucka drama and other topical comic book topics. Dustin shares his adventure with Prototype 2 and how comic and video game tie-ins are becoming more of a thing. Books that we cover are Borderlands #1, Justice League #12, #0, Deadman’s Run, Revival #3!! We are GO!

Hello everyone!! New week, new podcast. This time out we get derailed with a little bum/homeless conversation due to the fact we lived a massive bum encounter. But when it gets to comics, we talk about Marvel Now and the batch of new covers that were released. There was also a little bit of DC news too. Reading wise: Whore, The October Girl, Babel, The Rocketeer and Big Hitters. CBMFP is on and GO!

This week’s hour of power has a little more chatter about some Marvel NOW news along with some added banter regarding that dream for a new Wonder Woman television show. There are talks of the French Heavy Metal show too. Somewhere in there I fuck up a kick-ass Contra joke and Dustin is attacked by nature. Books that had words in them go by the names of Black Kiss #2, Bloodshot #3 Crossed #12, Hawkeye #2, Hypernaturals #3 and Damsels #1. Lets see if CBMFP is truly GO!

This week we cover our monthly round up with its new title, Lucky Bastards and Stupid Bastards. Lucky would represent the things in the world of comics that we loved. An example of this segment is JMS’s Dr. Manhattan book from DC. On the Stupid side, we take a look at shit that is totally insane and basically uncalled for. A prime example of this is the WB closing down their Animation Line. So feel free to follow along on the site or just sit back and enjoy the ride. As for books we read—Star Wars: Darth Maul – Death Sentence #2 and Boom’s Higher Earth. It’s episode 45 people and CBMFP is GO!!

Rob Liefeld makes the news, so we talk about him--he created Deadpool don't cha' know... Justice League makes the news because Superman and Wonder Woman are sucking face on the cover. Add a Sliver Surfer rock opera, and you have half of the podcast. The second half contains the books we read! Great books like Scam, Spider-Men #4, Sumo, Satanic Hell and so much more! CBMFP is GO!

We switch it up with some actual excitement about a comic book movie Dredd, even though we still don't like the poster. We also discuss the awesome new comic technology from DeepComix. This week's books that we discuss include Bendis' Spider-Man opus Spider-Men, Kevin dives into Before Watchmen: The Comedian #1. Midway through our Godzilla #2 chat we tackle how to fix Godzilla in the comics and then Kevin sets the stage for Whisper #3 out next week and end with Blood Blockade Battelfront #2 from Dark Horse Comics.

We tread dangerous waters this week as we talk about the first Green Lantern's sexuality, along with Northstar's wedding and why he's such a dickhead. It's a lengthy conversation that covers the hot button subject along with a few other issues that plague comic book fans. The books we talk about this week are X-Men Noir, Siegfried and Something Animal from Dustin's pile and from Kevin we get Mass Effect Homeworlds and Call of Wonderland #1. So jump aboard and swab the poop deck, arrgh!

This week Dustin doesn’t know the difference between AMC and A&E. Then we pitch comic books for all of your television comic needs. After that we break out the tool box and give the old Hulk a fix (Comic Hulk not movie Hulk, everyone love movie Hulk.) Comic wise, Dustin reads a REAL book called Comic Con and the business of Pop Culture. A comic called Afrika gets a little shine and so much more.

30 episodes in and the quality factor is slightly up and side bars are bountifully. Topics this week include the fate of the Arrow and how the Avengers are still running a muck at the box office. Remember Devil’s Due, we do! Dustin has some Prometheus bits that he shares. Comic wise it’s all about Grim Leaper, Dancer, Monster Myths and Hardcore. Oh and what’s up with Top Cow?

New week, new episode of the CBMFP!! This week we chat a little bit about comic book news and fun that is Free Comic Book Day. There’s some comic book movie talk, did I mention I love that new Amazing Spider-Man suit! ( NOT the one in the pictured in the post btw) Comic wise, we talk about The Spider, The Chimpanzee Complex Vol. 1- The Paradox, Rex Zombie Killer, oh and it was Kenji, the gorilla with a baseball bat, not Kimbo. Nevertheless, fun was had! Get Some!!

This week we are all over the place in a crazy away. I played The Walking Dead game from Telltale games and express my joy to the world! Someone brings up MI: 3 the movie and then the talk move to new comic book movies. Comic book wise we talk about Mass Effect: Home worlds, Crossed: Badlands, Penguins vs. Possums, The Goon and Jack Hammer. Hope you laugh at least once!

We're on the road this week, but we still managed to get you a podcast! We were going to do more, but this shit is tiring! We go on a big rant about the food we've eaten and then it's panel coverage for the rest of it. Frankly, our brains are mush and we couldn't remember what we read this week and C2E2 was far more important. Kevin and I both attended Avatar Press' panel and Valiant Comics triumphant return to the convention circuit. I cover Aspen Comics panel along with IDW's. I’m real sorry about the title of this week’s CBMFP, but I couldn’t think of anything that could capture the vibe of this episode more than pee that smells… To kick things off, we pick a winner of the 1,000 post caption contest, and we talk about the comic book-inspired movie, Chronicle. Dustin brings up The Darkness 2 video game even though I think we already talked about it. But it’s cool. The books that got read this week include Reign, Hell Yeah. Holliday, Turning Tiger and more! So the CBMFP turns 18, and she’s ready to party!

What a week we've all had huh? We hit our 1,000 th post and then totally forgot to pick a winner on the podcast which buys all of you more time! This week we discuss the first episode of Comic Book Men and how much it bored us, then we dive right into books we've read. For myself it was Project 17, The Pack and the Black Swan. On Kevin's side of things he talked about Rotten from Moonstone Books and the new Dragon Age digital only comic book coming out this week from Dark Horse Comics. I think we talked about cocaine as well, but not in a positive way... I think.

Wow what a week! Lawsuits, lawsuits everywhere. If you worked in the world of comics there's a good chance you caught a case. Not only that I read some Planetary (by some I mean two issues) and Dustin read Harbor Moon and HunterPrey from Broken Icon Comics. To add to the madness we also debate whether or not people should see The Avengers and Ghost Rider movies because of all the b.s. involved. Oh and there's an Earth 2 in your new 52!

First off, there's a little Watchmen news in this one in case you missed it. Then we ask the burning question, what is the "Safe Answer" when it comes to comic books?
