    Episode 57: “One Breath” with Debra Denker—Music by Todd Lowry

    In the latest episode of The Celebrate Happiness Roadshow podcast, we are talking with Debra Denker, Santa Fe-based writer, photographer, and filmmaker who has been creating media about international environmental, social justice, and peace issues since the late 70s. Starting in 1986, Debra worked and taught in the healing arts, including energy healing, spiritual counseling, and animal communication with companion animals and wild-living ones. She is an ordained graduate of the Healing Light Center Church, where she studied with Rev. Rosalyn Bruyere and served on the faculty for five years. As a certified Healing Touch Practitioner in 2002 and as an instructor in 2006, Debra currently sees clients in private practice in both Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Alaska. Debra has also taught Healing Touch courses in Tibet and South Africa, and is planning to establish a healing center in Vancouver, British Columbia, called Rasa Catalyst Healing In addition, Debra is the author of the cli-fi time travel novel Weather Menders and a novel set in Afghanistan during the 1980 war, Love and War in the Land of Cain, which won first place in the 2022 National Federation of Press Women contest. She has written for diverse publications, including National Geographic, the Los Angeles Times, and the Guardian. She is a longtime member and current board member of the Society of Women Geographers. Debra is also the founder and director of the Global Diversity Film Project (GDFP), an initiative of Perception International, which makes films in association with her production company, Catalyst Artistic Productions. Her films on Afghanistan and Tibet have been exhibited in many film festivals, and her short films are accessible on YouTube and Vimeo, including Community Garden: New Mexico/South Africa, which screened at the New Mexico Filmmakers Showcase, and a trailer for a film on ancient Hawaiian spirituality, One Breath: One Life. Her performances draw from the Great American Songbook, Broadway classics, and jazz standards, delivered with a soulful, blues-tinged interpretation shaped by a lifetime of storytelling and creative expression.     In the latest episode of The Celebrate Happiness Roadshow podcast, we are talking with Bobbi Heller, who was born and raised in Sydney, Australia, and came to the US to study at the California Institute of the Arts, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in music. She next worked in the entertainment industry and she founded her own film distribution company. Bobbi and her husband moved to Santa Fe New Mexico in 2000. With her love for cats, she founded Felines & Friends New Mexico in 2002, and is the Executive Director. Bobbi also co-hosts the weekly radio show and podcast Pet Chat with Murad & Bobbi, which will reach its 200th episode milestone in spring 2026. After a 20-year career in media and marketing within the television industry, primarily with NBCUniversal, Murad Kirdar relocated to Santa Fe to pursue a long-held passion for animal welfare. This transition marked the beginning of his second career as an animal welfare advocate, during which he has held leadership roles at Northern New Mexico's two largest animal shelters, including Public and Business Relations Officer and, currently, Director of Community Engagement at Española Humane.   In his role as Director of Community Engagement, Murad plays a key role in strengthening Española Humane's visibility, reputation, and community impact. He also co-hosts and produces the weekly radio show and podcast Pet Chat with Murad & Bobbi, which will reach its 200th episode milestone in spring 2026. Through the show, Murad, along with Bobbi Heller, executive director of Felines & Friends, helps provide ongoing information on all things pet-related with the broader community and beyond. Murad is also "dog-dad" for his three rescue pups, who he proudly refers to as the Golden Girls.     In the latest episode of The Celebrate Happiness Roadshow podcast, we are talking with Michael Burt Jr., a dynamic American multi-instrumentalist, teaching artist, and composer living and working in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born in Petersburg, Virginia, Michael is from a long line of teachers; both his mother and grandmother answered the call. For over 20 years, Michael has mentored young people in both public and private schools and currently teaches in the music departments at Nelson Mandela Charter School and Santa Fe High. In addition, his 2023-2024 Master Artist Workshop series introduced students to 'the body as keeper and origin of song' by way of an immersion into the rich traditions of blues music and original songwriting.     In the latest episode of The Celebrate Happiness Roadshow podcast, we are talking with Dharm Andrew Segal, owner of the Chocolate Maven Bakery and the new Unit B Supper Club in Santa Fe New Mexico. Dharm was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and grew up in Massachusetts, the son of a mathematician father and an artist Mother. Dharm has lived in New Mexico of 35 years. A renaissance man, he is a 2nd generation yoga teacher, musician, author and actor as well as a baker, restaurateur and business owner. In addition Dharm holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Rochester, and has served on several non-profit boards. Dharm and his wife, Cassie, began baking health food baked goods in their home kitchen, and in 1993 created a commercial bakery in their garage which grew into what the Chocolate Maven is today. Dharm believes that the mood of the baker changes the taste of whatever they are making. Join us for this heartfelt episode where Dharm shares how his two business aim to inspire celebration of life and each other, whether that may be through cakes or music, he also dives into his go-to "bulldozers for stress," and the essential role of balance, gratitude, and kindness.

She is now finishing "Should You Go? Barbara, a Minnesota girl, began singing early and toured in Europe with "America's Youth in Concert". With a degree in Music Education, she has always had "one foot in education and one foot in entertainment."   In Los Angeles she won awards while singing in "The Goils", a three-woman group, and with the vocal jazz group, "Terra Nova" which she co-founded, Barbara also worked in production, as a vocal music coach and music producer, for shows at Disney Channel, as a consultant for Hollywood Records and was the Vocal Music Director and Actress for several episodes of popular shows on FOX, NBC, and the DISCOVERY CHANNEL and worked in producing roles for DISNEY/ABC She has been a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and she has sat on Emmy judging panels for children's programming. Barbara has recorded a solo vocal CD titled "Green," published a children's novella titled "Free Billie," and is currently writing several original movie screenplays.   Tune in to this heartfelt and thought-provoking episode as Barbara reflects on what it means to live with purpose, presence, and towards the common good.     In this episode we are talking with aromatherapist, facilitator, minister, photographer and published author, Kristina Daniels. Kristina is happiest when she is sharing time with souls she loves, from flowers to fur family. Kristina uses art as an extension and expression of love. Her creativity combines botanical oils, nature photography, writing, and illustration and she has published three books, "The Adventures of Avery Finn" about a lovable cat who we accompany as he experiences adoption, a farewell and a new friendship. Kristina's services involve using flowers, herbs, and essential oils to create healing formulas based on botanical knowledge. She works with plants as botanical ingredients to support emotional healing, such as grief work and rituals for self-care.     Episode 44: “In the Moment with Gail Springer” Music by Todd Lowrey

    Today we are talking with Gail Springer, a Creative by gifts of nature and education who has pursued her passion for music, theatre and teaching all of her life. At the age of five Gail appeared on Albuquerque's Dick Bills TV Show in a fringed cowgirl outfit packing a toy six gun and singing The Deadwood Stage. During her 36 years as a Professor of Theatre at the College of Santa Fe and the Santa Fe University of Art and Design, Gail directed over 50 plays and musicals at the Greer Garson Theatre in Santa Fe New Mexico and started one of the first BFA Music theatre degree programs in the United States. Outside of academia, she continued her career as a soprano soloist with orchestras, choirs and bands, and was a regular soprano soloist with Serenata of Santa Fe. Since retiring from teaching in 2016 she has written and published two fictions, and her third book will be published this May. Currently Gail also sings with her musician husband, Peter Springer, in the contemporary acoustic rock trio, Monsoon.     Episode 43: “Stay Curious with James Dybas” Music by Todd Lowrey

    Today we are talking with James Dybas, who is a seasoned American actor, singer & dancer born & raised in Chicago, Illinois and whose career spans Broadway, regional theater, television, and film. Beginning his artistic journey in Chicago after receiving a scholarship to study dance with renowned teacher Edna McRae, James launched his professional career performing in Musical Revues at Chicago's Edgewater Beach and Del Prado Hotels. After moving to New York City, he made his Broadway debut in the 1965 Richard Rodgers/Stephen Sondheim musical "Do I Hear a Waltz?"  and His subsequent Broadway credits include George M!, Via Galactica, 42nd Street, Sunset Boulevard, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and Pacific Overtures, in which he originated the Stephen Sondheim song "Someone in a Tree" which Mr. Sondheim has said is his favorite of all his compositions. In addition to his stage work, James has also appeared in films such as Private Benjamin and in several television series including Miami Vice. He has also contributed to the performing arts community by hosting events for the Dancers Over 40 Organization and teaching Musical Theatre Audition Techniques at the American Musical & Dramatic Academy in NYC. Currently James resides in New York City, where he continues to engage with the arts, reflecting on a career enriched by diverse and challenging roles across multiple performance mediums.     In this episode, we are talking with Lyra Barron who for 42 years has lived just outside of Santa Fe, NM; always in the forest and mountains where Nature has always provided her with inspiration. Lyra's current endeavor and the finale of her long and varied career is the creation of Paradiso, a Santa Fe performing arts venue and community event space. Lyra is passionate about beauty and the arts, and providing a space for artists to thrive, and for community to come together to celebrate life in these divisive and challenging times. A professional pianist and composer herself, she is planning a regular series of healing music evenings in the near future. Her musical training is in classical music, and her style leans into a more visual and orchestral vein, which might be currently classified as New Age. As a professional touring musician and composer, she has 7 CD's of original music and a number of New Mexico Music Awards. In addition to her music career, her background includes costume design and wearable art, the head administrator of one of New Mexico's pueblos, which included a language preservation project for the pueblo, and web and graphic design, film maker and photographer. In this powerful and inspirational episode, Lyra discusses topics such as her creative process, remembering our shared humanity, moving outside of division through community, nature and creativity and having love and compassion for all.

    In this episode, we are talking with Paddy Rawal, a beloved Santa Fe executive chef who has recently came out of retirement to start Tulsi- Asian Cuisine, with a local influence. Paddy, a native of Mumbai, India, migrated to the U.S. in 2001, and has been in the hospitality, restaurant, quick service, and food service management business for more than forty years and counting. As a seasoned world traveler and a qualified and experienced manager and executive chef with knowledge of multiple international cuisines, Paddy has worked around the globe in Hotels and food facilities. And in addition he is a regular on national food network cooking shows. He arrived in the USA in 2001, where he started and owned the full service restaurants;  "Bombay Grill" and "Mumbai in Michigan". And in 2011 he came to Santa Fe to venture into "Raaga in Santa Fe", and "OM" in Los Ranchos, New Mexico. Next came his Santa Fe takeout Thai and Indian concept, "Raaga Go".     In this episode, we are talking with Bonnie Bennett, co-owner with her husband Tony of the Kakawa Chocolate House in Santa Fe NM. Bonnie and Tony moved to Santa Fe, NM 14+ years ago to craft their next adventure, the "wonders of chocolate." The Kakawa Chocolate House's mission is to introduce people to the long history of chocolate through drinking "elixirs" and offering world class artisan chocolates, ice cream and baked goods locally sourced from the finest ingredients. Aa a "chocolate sommelier" many days Bonnie is behind the counter, talking chocolate with guests visiting from around the country and the globe. Her love for chocolate is infectious and engaging as she focuses on leading classes, chocolate "immersions'', cacao intention events, corporate adventures and pairings with other local businesses in all their Santa Fe locations and their newer Salem, Massachusetts location. Bonnie came to chocolate as a second career by way of the Fashion Industry, having a background in Jewelry Design and Merchandising and a long, successful career in NYC.  Bonnie also teaches Nia, a holistic movement practice at BODY of Santa Fe and Studio Nia Santa Fe and volunteers on the board of the International Folk Art Market. In her free moments, you can find her cooking or enjoying a quiet moment with her husband and partner Tony and their two rescue pups, Lucy and Mackenzie.     Episode 39: “Living in Gratitude with Maleah Diaz” Music by Todd Lowrey

    In this episode, we are talking with with Maleah Diaz, a junior at the University of New Mexico, studying under the Jennifer Riordan Presidential Scholarship and pursuing a degree in Secondary Education with a focus in English language arts. After graduation, Maleah hopes to teach internationally and pursue her Masters degree. Born and raised in Silver City, New Mexico, Maleah graduated valedictorian of her class from Silver High School and participated in multiple extra curriculars including Volleyball, Basketball, Powerlifting, National Honors Society, National History Day, and Key Club. Currently she is working at the university gym while playing on an intramural volleyball team with her coworkers. Maleah has made the Dean's List each semester while at UNM and her writing has been published in the 2022-2023 edition of the Elevations textbook from the UNM Department of English. During the Summer of 2024, she studied abroad in Italy and this summer she has been accepted to an international teaching apprenticeship in Cordóba, Spain. Maleah also enjoys playing piano, dancing, binge watching her favorite shows, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. In this uplifting episode, Maleah shares insights into how taking time to reflect on what she is grateful for brings her happiness as well as thoughts on her enriching experience with the Jennifer Riordan Foundation, and how she plans to bring kindness, empathy, and inclusion to her future work in education.

    In this episode, we are talking with Maggie Lambe. Having been raised in Florida on a farm, she migrated west 20 years ago.     In this episode, we are talking with Kenny LaCome who grew up in Taos, New Mexico. Graduating from Taos High School in 1978. As a teenager Kenny followed his passion for motorcycle racing by working in a local motorcycle shop, which led to motocross motorcycle racing and becoming a professional motorcycle road racer. A motorcycle crash while racing in Aspen, Colorado 1983 left him a paraplegic with a spinal cord injury. Kenny transitioned into pioneering in the world of adaptive sports and developing adaptive skiing equipment. He was granted a U.S. Patent on a sit-ski device for alpine skiing which he competed on at the Paralympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah 2002 representing the United States. Kenny has been advocating for health and wellness for the last 35 years and is currently a certified Living Foods Health Educator. Over the last 10 years he has been studying and practicing personal development with the goal of servicing humanity as a personal development coach. He has worked with many theatre companies in Santa Fe, and is an artistic director and co-founder of Teatro Paraguas, a bilingual theatre promoting contemporary Latinx theatre, children's theatre, New Mexico playwrights, and poetry readings since 2004. His poems have been published in Malpais Review, Lummox Anthology, PoetryXHunger.com, THE Magazine, wildword.net, and Poetry London/Apple Magazine. We discuss many concepts, including the energetic exchange in theatre, the power in being fully engaged in what we find meaningful, and how each of our unique contributions to the world uplifts ourselves and our communities. Later he moved to California in pursuit of a higher education and graduated from the film school in Los Angeles, Columbia College Hollywood with a B.F.A in Directing Cinema & TV Production.   Growing up with the guidance of his Uncle, Dr. Bruce Lipton, Alex was taught with the understanding of how our perception controls our biology and that health and wellness is greatly influenced by our consciousness. For over a decade it has been Alex's mission to help spread this message of self-empowerment using creative video production. He is guided by synchronicity and holds the subjects of ancient civilizations and lost worlds very close to his heart, and spends his life helping others discover the wonders of the unknown.
