Checking In On Life and Death
In this episode, we will talk to the Director of the St. Alphonsus Palliative Care Program, Dr. Wesley Jones, and Intensive Care Unit Doctor, Dr. Rory Ramsey, about their experiences working with the dying. We will discuss the challenges and rewards of such a position and how they find joy in their work. Then, we will go into the stages of grief, and how patients and loved ones react to the process of death. In this section, we will seek to understand if there are any messages that the dying give us. Next, we discuss the ethics around dying, and when it is time to take a person off life support. Additionally, we discuss religious and cross-cultural experiences of dying, and how Dr. Jones and Ramsey manage these situations. Finally, we talk about any interesting or inspiring cases these doctors have seen in their line of work.

In this episode, we talk to the Director of the St. Alphonsus Sleep Clinic, Dr. Rory Ramsey, about his specialty in sleep. He discusses his background in sleep, what his specialty is, and how he measures and studies sleep in the clinic. Then, Dr. Ramsey talks about the many benefits of good sleep, including improved life span, decreased food cravings and weight loss, enhanced memory, and better mood. Then Dr. Ramsey breaks down how he handles insomnia in his clinic and the common methods people will employ to improve their insomnia. Additionally, Dr. Ramsey talks about dreams and how this phenomenon occurs on a biological level. Finally, Dr. Ramsey discusses the sleep cycle and how this varies in different people. We end by discussing the fascinating topic of parasomnia and some of the crazy stories that Dr. Ramsey has seen in his practice.
