When a Dream about Love Comes True

Hey, it’s Amy Newmark with your Chicken Soup for the Soul, and it’s Wow Wednesday, which is when I find awe-inspiring or surprising stories to share with you. Today I’ve got a couple of cool stories from Chicken Soup for the Soul: Let Your Dreams and Premonitions Guide You. The stories in this book show you how you can use your dreams and premonitions as a kind of GPS for your life. While you’re sleeping, and you’re not distracted by all the sights and sounds of the day, you can actually pay attention to your subconscious and it might reveal helpful things. Or you can believe that your dreams and premonitions are of divine origin, and we have many stories in the book that seem to fall into that category too, as they defy rational explanations! One of my favorite categories of dream stories is when someone dreams about love—about their soul mate—and then their dream actually comes true in the future. Often they had never met that person and just imagined him or her. Or, the dream might seem impossible, an idea that everyone would laugh at. Learn more about your ad choices. Hurt by Mom? How to Forgive and Free Yourself

Hey, it’s Amy Newmark with your Chicken Soup for the Soul and I’m pleased to share new stories with you from Chicken Soup for the Soul: Let It Go, which is our latest best-selling self-help book. I didn’t really understand the power of forgiveness to change my life until I started doing this editor-in-chief job at Chicken Soup for the Soul 18 years ago. I always thought that the word “forgiveness” meant that you were excusing the person who hurt you, saying that it was okay. But it turns out that “forgiveness” doesn’t mean that. What it actually means is that you have decided not to keep reliving all the negative feelings associated with whatever bad thing happened to you. You may even come to understand WHY it happened and what drove the other person to act that way, which enables you to NOT take it personally. Because it was never really about you. Finding Forgiveness by Walking in Someone Else’s Shoes

Hey, it’s Amy Newmark with your Chicken Soup for the Soul and I’m pleased to share new stories with you from Chicken Soup for the Soul: Let It Go, which is our latest best-selling self-help book. You know, I always thought that the word “forgiveness” meant that you were excusing the person who hurt you, saying that it was okay. But it turns out that “forgiveness” doesn’t mean that. What it actually means is that you have decided not to keep reliving all the negative feelings associated with whatever bad thing happened to you. You acknowledge that the bad thing happened, but you decide to stop having those same negative feelings over and over again. Forgiveness also means understanding WHY something happened. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve realized that something bad that someone did to me wasn’t about me at all. It was about something else going on in that person’s life and there was no deliberate intent to hurt specifically me. When you learn not to take those bad things personally, and understand where those actions are coming from, it’s much easier to move on and not carry any resentment forward with you. You Deserve to Be Treated Right

Hey, it’s Amy Newmark with your Chicken Soup for the Soul and we have a new book I’m very passionate about. It’s all about how Self-Care Isn’t Selfish. That’s because self-care is not optional. It’s a necessary, powerful commitment to making yourself a priority. And it also means learning how to stick up for yourself. Sometimes we don’t do that. We are trying to be nice, or we can’t initially believe that someone IS NOT treating us right, so we let it slide, and then it kind of becomes the official way that relationship is going to be. Our Proud New Citizens

Hey, it’s Amy Newmark with your Chicken Soup for the Soul and I’m excited about sharing stories with you from Chicken Soup for the Soul: Celebrating the Spirit of America, our way of participating in the 250th birthday of the U.S. Our new book goes back to our roots as Americans, with stories that showcase our pride in our country, our industrious nature, our creativity and can-do attitude, our kindness. That’s the true spirit of America. And, also, America as the land of opportunity, a place that welcomed hard-working immigrants. Today I want to share two stories with you written by the grandchildren and greatgrandchildren of immigrants who came here and became citizens and exemplified what we love about America. When Your Dream Shows You What You Need to Do

You don’t have to believe they are anything more than your mind telling you what you already know but are too distracted to act on during your busy waking hours. While you’re sleeping, and you’re not distracted by all the sights and sounds of the day, you can actually pay attention to your subconscious. Or you can believe that your dreams and premonitions are of divine origin, and we have many stories in the book that seem to fall into that category too, as they defy rational explanations! Technology Is Not Your Friend

Hey, it’s Amy Newmark with your Chicken Soup for the Soul and I’m excited to share more stories with you from our latest humor book, Chicken Soup for the Soul: I Can’t Stop Laughing. This book is such a great respite from all the news out there that we don’t want to hear or see or read. Instead, you can spend a few hours, or even just a few minutes a day, with some great funny stories in which people don’t hold back. They share their most embarrassing stories or tell those famous ones about their friends or family members. We had thousands of submissions for this book, and if the stories made us laugh they became contenders for the 101 spots in the book. What we looked for was variety, and we got it. And what I particularly love is when people are telling on themselves. That’s what we’ve got in today’s episode, which is called “Technology Is Not Your Friend.” You’ll hear why in a moment. I Can’t Believe I Did That

Hey, it’s Amy Newmark with your Chicken Soup for the Soul and I’m excited to share a couple of stories with you from our latest humor book, Chicken Soup for the Soul: I Can’t Stop Laughing. This book is a true gift – one you can give yourself or anyone else in your life. Because we all need some comic relief these days, something to distract us from current events, social media, and all the other negative stuff we’re exposed to. The 101 stories in this new collection will make you feel good, and they’re all true, related to us by the people who lived through these hilarious and truly human experiences. No one is safe from our storytellers, from family members to friends to colleagues, and of course, themselves. Our storytellers are very good at sharing their own most embarrassing moments, as did Susan Jakubowski twice in this new collection. Learn more about your ad choices. Honoring the Red, White and Blue

Hey, it’s Amy Newmark with your Chicken Soup for the Soul, and today I’m sharing a couple of stories from Chicken Soup for the Soul: Celebrating the Spirit of America, stories about honoring our flag. You know, I was at a major league baseball game a couple of years ago, eating in one of those big stadium clubs, and when the game was starting and the national anthem started playing I noticed that no one in the club was paying attention to it. I stopped what I was doing and stood watching the TV screen while the anthem played, but it seemed like it was out of favor to do that. Which is a shame. So today I want to share two stories about our flag, starting with a story about a teenage girl who proudly supported her country, despite a whole lot of peer pressure. A Nation of Helping Hands

Hey, it’s Amy Newmark with your Chicken Soup for the Soul and I’m excited about sharing stories with you from our new book about the spirit of America. Chicken Soup for the Soul: Celebrating the Spirit of America is a fun read, and an inspiring one too, especially these days with Americans so divided. You know, I don’t think at this time ten years ago I could have told you how my friends and family members were voting. It wasn’t something that defined us. But today, we all seem to know what everyone’s politics are, and we are so focused on what divides us that we’ve forgotten what unites us. Our new book goes back to our roots as Americans, with stories that showcase our pride in our country, our industrious nature, our creativity and can-do attitude, our kindness. That’s the true spirit of America. And today I want to share a couple of stories about American kindness, how we take care of each other, and how we did that during the worst part of the pandemic when we were all housebound and struggling.

Home Repairs – You Can’t Make This Stuff Up

Hey, it’s Amy Newmark with your Chicken Soup for the Soul, and it’s Wow Wednesday, which is when I find awe-inspiring or surprising stories to share with you. Today I’ve got a couple of cool stories from Chicken Soup for the Soul: I Can’t Stop Laughing. This very funny book has just gone on sale and I expect it to be a bestseller like all our humor books. When people make fun of themselves, relating their most embarrassing moments, or tell stories about their family members, they are usually sharing the stories that are told over and over again in their families, the ones that make people laugh for years to come. And the two stories I’m sharing today made ME laugh over and over again. When I tried to tell them to my husband I couldn’t even get the words out through my laughter. The stories are about home repairs and the completely avoidable disasters that led to them. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
