Setbacks Into Motivation - Stan Freemon - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #175

How can an endurance mindset help you overcome brutal setbacks in both sports and executive leadership? Today’s guest is an unstoppable serial entrepreneur and Ironman ambassador. Introducing Stan Freemon, President and CEO at Hunter Freeman Group. Stan partners with host Gregory McDonough to share how he pushed through a catastrophic 35-minute transition delay during an Ironman to finish strong and how he applies that same relentless drive to executive recruiting. He also delves into why true leadership requires emotional resilience, deep relationship-building, and keeping life’s challenges in perspective.Takeaways:Turning Setbacks into Motivation: When unexpected obstacles throw your plans off course, like losing a transition bag in a race, mental toughness is what keeps you moving forward.Relentless Persistence in Business: Executive recruiting and deal-making require an unwavering commitment to seeing things through without giving up.Relationship-First Leadership: True business success comes from establishing trust directly with company leaders rather than relying on transactional processes.Gaining Life Perspective: Pushing through grueling physical challenges, like pushing a chariot for a young athlete with special needs, reminds leaders that everyday workplace problems are easily manageable. The Endurance Network: Engaging in extreme sports naturally connects high-performing CEOs and entrepreneurs who share the same discipline and drive.Quote of the Show:"I do not give up, period. You can ask everybody that works for me. I mean, when I smell blood in the water, it's a done deal." - Stan FreemonLinks:Stand Freemon’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stan-freemon-421a19145/Stan’s Email: [email protected] Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. Today’s guest is a truly inspiring Oxford-trained chemist, world-class endurance athlete, military pioneer, and venture investor! Introducing Dr. Charlotte Kirk, Founder and CEO at CK Ventures and Venture Partner at Decarb Ventures. She also delves into why stepping outside your comfort zone, embracing joy, and interviewing investors for alignment build long-term business success.Takeaways:Reframing Mission-Critical Problems: Extreme environments teach leaders that while business problems are important, keeping calm and maintaining perspective allows space for creative solutions."No Plan Survives First Contact": In both the military and venture capital, adaptability is paramount; leaders must constantly innovate when unexpected obstacles arise.Side-by-Side Leadership: Taking candidates or team members out of formal settings and into side-by-side environments (like walking or trail running) reveals authentic character and builds trust faster."You Can't Compete with Someone Having Fun": Approaching tough athletic or entrepreneurial challenges through a lens of joy and gratitude sustains long-term performance better than negative pressure.Investor Alignment Matters: Founders should interview potential investors as rigorously as investors evaluate them to ensure shared personal values during difficult times.Quote of the Show:"Yes, it's mission critical, but no one's gonna die tomorrow. Patience, Process, and Ownership - Trevor Gilmore - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #173

How can an endurance mindset transform business leadership and create lasting company legacy? Today’s guest is an accomplished CEO, CPA, podcast host, and endurance athlete who embodies the power of trusting the process! Introducing Trevor Gilmore, CEO at The Menke Group. Trevor partners with host Gregory McDonough to share how he built discipline through competitive cycling and marathons and transitioned into leading a top ESOP advisory firm. He also delves into why employee ownership acts as the ultimate long-term exit strategy for value-driven leaders.Takeaways:Trusting the Training Process: Success in business and athletics is rarely a straight line; consistency, morning routines, and grinding through difficult days build long-term resilience and results. The Power of Group Motivation: Training alongside high-performing peers elevates individual performance, whether pushing up a steep climb or leading a company through challenging economic shifts.ESOP as the "Endurance Exit": Employee Stock Ownership Plans offer business owners a flexible way to preserve company culture, maintain independence, and reward loyal staff over a long time horizon.Identifying ESOP Candidates: Companies with strong cultures, human capital value, and next-generation leadership in place make ideal candidates for employee ownership.Authentic and Honest Communication: Whether launching a niche podcast or evaluating deal pipelines, candor and long-term commitment drive meaningful reach and credibility.Quote of the Show:"Some days you don't feel like doing it, but that and grinding through gets you better over time, and that certainly translates to life success." - Trevor GilmoreLinks:Trevor Gilmore’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/trevorjgilmore/The Menke Group’s Website: http://www.menke.comTrevor’s Email: [email protected] to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/  Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. Take the Leap, Trust the Climb - Dan Mosko - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #172

What if the hardest year of your life became the reason you could handle anything after? Today's guest is a builder who turned a personal breaking point into the blueprint for a growing business. Introducing Dan Mosko, CEO of Altura Performance and founder of Elevation Everest. Dan partners with host Gregory McDonough to share how he built a high-altitude endurance race company while working 85-90 hour weeks at his corporate sales job, all while his home fell apart around him, foundation, roof, and plumbing failing at once. He also delves into what it really takes to leave a stable career and build something of your own, one problem at a time.Takeaways:Dan describes the "endurance mindset" as the ability to consistently deal with pain and keep moving forward. He credits this to having "proof points," past hard experiences that prove you can handle whatever life throws at you next. While building Elevation Everest and working 85-90 hour weeks at his day job, Dan's house experienced simultaneous major failures, foundation, roof trusses, and a sewage backup, all at once. He got through it by leaning on the memory of finding his breaking point at mile eight of an Ironman marathon and breaking the crisis into smaller, manageable pieces.Elevation Everest was born from Dan's own transformational Ironman finish-line experience and a gap he saw in the market for a more accessible high-altitude endurance event. He and his team cold-called resorts until they found the right partner in Winter Park, Colorado.Running a large-scale endurance event involves far more behind-the-scenes complexity than athletes typically realize, including venue partnerships, sponsor sourcing, aid station logistics, and contingency planning for the unexpected, like a moose that chased participants through the woods during last year's race.To grow the athlete community, Dan's team has added race-weekend engagement, monthly community calls on gear and training, and guest speakers like 18-time Everest summiter Tendi Sherpa, all offered at no additional cost to registered athletes.Looking ahead, Dan plans to expand Elevation Everest to new locations, explore new race formats, and grow Altura Performance, his supplement company focused on helping people acclimatize, perform, and recover in the mountains. For anyone considering leaving a corporate job to chase an entrepreneurial dream, Dan advises building a financial runway, validating the plan with people who've done it before, and finding an accountability partner. He reminds listeners that entrepreneurship is simply an endless stream of problems to solve, one at a time.Quote of the Show:"Don't be surprised if it's harder than you expect, but also don't be surprised when it's more fulfilling than you expect." - Dan MoskoLinks:Dan’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/daniel-mosko/Altura Performance’s Website: alturaperformance.comElevation Everest Website: elevationeverest.comDiscount Code: CHIEFENDURANCEWays to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. Run the Next Mile - Nick Hancock - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #171

What begins as one difficult step can become a complete transformation. In this episode of Chief Endurance Officer, Gregory McDonough sits down with Nick Hancock, Founder and CEO of Maximum Mileage Coaching, certified running and performance nutrition coach, competitive ultrarunner, and creator of the Max Mile app. Nick shares how endurance helped him navigate some of life's most difficult challenges, from overcoming mental health struggles to supporting his wife through her battle with stage four cancer.Together, they explore the mindset required to persevere through adversity, the power of consistency over perfection, and why sustainable success, whether in business, athletics, or life, is built by showing up every day. Nick also shares how he transitioned from a successful corporate career to building a thriving coaching business dedicated to helping everyday athletes achieve extraordinary goals.Takeaways:Endurance is about reaching the next aid station. Nick explains that endurance isn't always about thinking miles ahead. During life's most difficult moments, success often comes from focusing on the very next step, maintaining hope, and continuing to move forward even when the destination feels overwhelming.Reinvention begins with one small decision. Nick's running journey didn't start with elite ambitions, it started by throwing away his cigarettes, lacing up the only shoes he owned, and running a few hundred meters around a local football pitch. Small decisions, repeated consistently, became life-changing habits. You don't have to be exceptional to call yourself a runner. One of Nick's strongest messages is that identity isn't earned through pace or race times. If you run, you're a runner. Removing comparison from the equation allows people to focus on their own growth and enjoy the journey.Consistency beats intensity. Whether coaching first-time marathoners or experienced ultrarunners, Nick sees the same pattern over and over again: the athletes who consistently execute the fundamentals ultimately outperform those who rely on occasional breakthrough workouts or bursts of motivation.Great coaching starts with understanding the whole person. Training plans alone don't create success. Nick believes coaches must understand their athletes' work schedules, family responsibilities, stress levels, sleep, nutrition, and recovery in order to create sustainable progress.Technology should enhance expertise, not replace it. As the creator of the Max Mile app, Nick embraces AI as a tool that removes repetitive administrative work while allowing coaches to spend more time building meaningful relationships and delivering personalized guidance.Success comes from serving others with excellence. Nick's transition from corporate leadership to entrepreneurship demonstrates that building a successful business starts with providing exceptional value. By delivering elite-level coaching and continuously investing in his athletes' success, he has built a thriving coaching company centered on trust and long-term relationships.Quote of the Show:"Running is a solo sport, but it's a team game.”  - Nick HancockLinks:Nick’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nickhancockrunningcoach/Maximum Mileage Coaching’s Website: https://www.maximummileagecoaching.com/Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. Pain Is Temporary - Tristan Wilson - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode # 174

In this episode of Chief Endurance Officer, Greg McDonough talks with Tristan Wilson, a fourth generation family construction leader turned AI founder. Tristan spent eight years rising through his family's highway construction business in Louisiana, eventually managing the largest production facility of its kind in the state and leading the company's biggest industrial construction project ever, a two year onsite relocation. He later founded Edgevanta, a company built to fix one of construction's oldest problems: pricing and estimating. Tristan also shares his journey into ultrarunning, including two 200 mile races, a dislocated elbow at mile 37, and the DNFs that taught him as much as his finishes did.Takeaways:Tristan's endurance mindset comes down to two lessons from long races: people are capable of far more than they know, and pain and agony are temporary while nothing else truly is, except the soul.Accountability partners, especially other founders at a similar stage, have been one of the biggest drivers of Tristan's growth in business, mirroring the crews and pacers that got him through his toughest ultra races.Tristan credits much of his networking success to giving value first, connecting people and helping others, rather than networking with an agenda.A painful early lesson as a young estimator, when his company left about seven hundred thousand dollars on the table on a paving bid, became the seed that eventually grew into Edgevanta, a pricing intelligence and estimating automation platform for heavy highway and civil construction companies.Tristan openly discusses his DNFs (Did Not Finish races) alongside his finishes, including pulling out of a race in Massachusetts and a 100K where a plantar issue ended his day, and says normalizing those setbacks is part of the journey. At one 200 mile race, Tristan dislocated his elbow at mile 37 while raising money for suicide prevention in construction, got it treated at a hospital, then returned to the course with his sister and another pacer to finish before the cutoff.Tristan's guiding business philosophy borrows a phrase he once heard: "Complexity is the enemy of execution," which pushes him to focus only on what matters most each day.Quote of the Show:"Pain and agony is temporary. Winning the Fourth Quarter - Carl Thomas - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #169

What does it take to build a career that spans NCAA water polo championships, an Olympic trials near miss, the founding of what became USA Triathlon, and over $400 million in verifiable business growth? In this episode of Chief Endurance Officer, Greg McDonough sits down with Carl Thomas, a veteran sports and entertainment executive with major leadership roles at Universal Studios, the Association of Volleyball Professionals, CAT Sports, and Speedo. At ASM Global, Carl helped build the commercial partnership team that drove growth leading to a $2.3 billion acquisition. He is also the host of the Best Boss Ever podcast.Carl walks Greg through his path from competitive swimmer and two time NCAA water polo champion at UCLA to co-founding what is now USA Triathlon, helping design the distances that became the modern Olympic triathlon format, and lobbying the IOC for four years to get triathlon added to the Olympic Games. Along the way, he shares the lessons that shaped his endurance mindset in sport and in business.Takeaways:Endurance is about never quitting while staying willing to adjust, adapt, and pivot as circumstances, age, or environment change.A pivotal moment came from his UCLA water polo coach, Bob Horn, who told a young and discouraged Carl, "Don't get your dauber down," and reminded him that speed is something that cannot be taught.Coach Horn's mantra, "You always win the fourth quarter," instilled a mentality of performing until the final buzzer that Carl carried into his business career.Carl helped design the swim, bike, and run distances that became the standard Olympic distance triathlon while working at Speedo in the early 1980s.He cofounded what became USA Triathlon and later helped found the International Triathlon Union, now World Triathlon, spending four years lobbying the IOC before triathlon was added to the Olympic program for Sydney 2000.From the earliest events of the US Triathlon Series, Carl and his partners awarded equal prize money to men and women, a commitment that never changed throughout the series.Naming rights and revenue strategy have transformed how venues generate value, a shift now playing out at the LA28 Olympic Games as brands pay to keep their names on Olympic venues.Quote of the Show:"The future is not set in stone. Run A Mile Before A Marathon - Crystal Hadnott - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - # 168

Crystal Hadnott was told she would need a cane for the rest of her life after a devastating accident left her partially paralyzed. Nine months later, she ran her first marathon. That decision sparked a journey that has now taken her through more than 150 marathons and ultramarathons, up Mount Kilimanjaro, and into a career helping organizations build sustainable growth through strategy, systems, and leadership.Crystal joins Greg to discuss how endurance training shaped her approach to fundraising and business, why every high performer needs "aid stations" for recovery and reflection, and the lessons she's learned from constantly challenging herself in sport and in life. She also shares how an accident led her into fundraising, why nonprofits need to think like businesses, and how maximizing your current strengths often matters more than chasing the next opportunity.Takeaways:Success is not built by pushing nonstop. Leaders need intentional aid stations for reflection, recovery, and recalibration if they want to perform over the long term. The goals you set at the beginning of the year should not be treated as permanent. Markets shift, industries change, and strong leaders reassess their plans often. Before pursuing the next shiny opportunity, make sure you've fully maximized the systems, strategies, and resources you already have.Funding is the fuel that keeps organizations moving. The challenge is identifying which revenue strategies truly support your mission and which ones create unnecessary strain.Building a strong core, both physically and professionally, creates longevity. The foundations you strengthen today support your performance years down the road.Difficult experiences can become your greatest teachers. Crystal's injury, recovery, and marathon journey all became data points that helped her better understand herself and her capabilities.Quote of the Show:"The addiction of accomplishing something that someone tells you you can't do became very real for me." - Crystal HadnottLinks:Crystal Hadnott’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/crystalhadnott/CH Philanthropy & Fundraising’s Website: https://www.linkedin.com/company/crystal-hadnott-philanthropy-fundraising/Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. One Mile at a Time - Bishoy Tadros - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #167

What happens when the obstacles that shape your childhood become the foundation for everything you achieve as an adult? In this episode of Chief Endurance Officer, Greg McDonough sits down with Bishoy Tadros, sales leader, author, endurance athlete, host of the Mile 40 Podcast, and the first Egyptian to complete all seven World Marathon Majors. Bishoy shares his journey from surviving childhood leukemia and brain surgery to becoming an Ironman and accomplished marathoner.Together, they explore how patience, perspective, and purpose helped him navigate decades of challenges, why endurance sports became a vehicle for personal transformation, and how embracing discomfort can reveal what we're truly capable of achieving. Bishoy also shares the powerful story behind his "Mile 40" moment and the lessons it continues to teach him about resilience, growth, and possibility.Takeaways:Endurance mindset often begins long before endurance sports. Bishoy's battle with childhood leukemia, years of treatment, and eventual recovery shaped the resilience he would later rely on as an athlete and leader.Patience, perspective, and purpose became the three principles that helped him navigate adversity and continue moving forward despite repeated setbacks and rejection.Surrounding yourself with high performers can fundamentally change what you believe is possible for your own life and goals.During his defining "Mile 40" moment in a half Ironman, Bishoy overcame physical and mental exhaustion by breaking an overwhelming challenge into manageable pieces, one mile at a time.Celebrating small wins can create momentum during life's most difficult chapters and help sustain progress when the finish line feels far away. Some of the most meaningful achievements begin with a simple question: "Why not?" That mindset eventually led Bishoy to become the first Egyptian to complete all seven World Marathon Majors.Setbacks do not have to define your story. When approached with the right mindset, they can become the catalyst for growth, purpose, and impact.Quote of the Show:"You were dealt this hand because you were built to play it." - Bishoy TadrosLinks:Bishoy’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/btadros/Mile 40 Podcast’s Website: https://mile40podcast.com/Bishoy’s email: [email protected]’s Instagram: @bishoy_tadrosWays to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. Sustaining High Performance - Monika Sattler - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #166

What does it take to keep moving forward through uncertainty, pressure, and challenge? In this episode of Chief Endurance Officer, Greg McDonough sits down with Monika Sattler, CEO of Sattler Consulting GmbH, endurance athlete, keynote speaker, author, and cycling record holder. Monika shares how her experiences in both business and endurance sports have shaped her approach to high performance, resilience, and personal growth. From setting cycling records across Switzerland to helping leaders navigate change, Monika discusses the importance of systems, consistency, and stepping outside your comfort zone. She also shares insights on redefining success, building sustainable performance habits, and why growth often happens when we stop waiting for motivation and simply commit to the process.Takeaways:Creating systems and routines can be more effective than relying on motivation alone.Consistency comes from building habits that become automatic rather than constantly negotiating with yourself.Endurance sports can reveal how much deeper you can go when faced with adversity and discomfort.High performance requires learning how to continue through uncertainty, pressure, and change.Success is highly personal and should be defined by what genuinely matters to the individual.Stepping outside your comfort zone creates opportunities for growth and learning.Strength training can play an important role in supporting endurance performance.Quote of the Show:"It's not about higher, faster. Discipline Before Destination - Sean Fay - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode # 165

Sean Fay has spent 30 years building brands that became household names. Sonicare. OxiClean. George Foreman Grill. FoodSaver. As founder of Envision Response, he was there when those companies were small and helped craft the stories that made them impossible to ignore. He joins Greg to talk about what brand building actually requires, how endurance racing reshaped the way he sets goals and handles discomfort, and why OCR feels more like entrepreneurship than any other sport he has tried. He also opens up about the father who taught him to write down his goals at 14 and the hard won belief that finishing something difficult, even when you fall apart in the final miles, changes what you think you're capable of.Takeaways:Hard work without a roadmap is just energy spent. The endurance mindset adds the structure, pacing, and discipline that turns effort into progress.Every goal Sean ever wrote down, he eventually achieved, often in a form he didn't expect. Clarity about what you want matters more than certainty about how you'll get there. The best brand story usually lives with a real person behind it. Customers connect to founders, to passion, and to the human being who had to solve something.Your website is where you tell your story. Retail and marketplace platforms are where you distribute it. Confusing the two is one of the most common mistakes product brands make.OCR forces you to be capable across everything, not just your strongest discipline. That's exactly what entrepreneurship demands too.Discomfort is data. The endurance athletes and founders who grow fastest are the ones who learn to read it instead of run from it.Quote of the Show:"Discomfort is information that teaches us" - Sean FayLinks:Sean Fay’s LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/seankfaySean Fay’s Email: [email protected] Response’s Website: envisionresponse.comQuick N Brite’s Website: quicknbrite.comWays to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. Slow Down to Speed Up - Don McLaughlin - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #164

Today's guest is a founder, executive coach, and exit strategist who rebuilt from burnout to a 12X business exit and now helps other founders do the same. Introducing Don McLaughlin, founder and CEO of Aligned Ascent. Don joins host Greg McDonough to explore how running ultra endurance races in the mountains shaped his leadership philosophy, what it truly takes to prepare a business for a premium exit, and how his Inside Out Performance System helps founders align personal performance with sustainable business growth. He also opens up about his rock bottom moment in 2012, the journey from operator to owner, and why the most transformational business growth starts from the inside out.Don emphasizes that endurance training and business leadership both demand clarity, presence, and resilience, and that the most meaningful results come when a founder builds a self managing team and steps into the role of steward rather than operator.Takeaways:Endurance events develop three foundational leadership qualities: clarity, presence, and resilience.Embracing prolonged discomfort in training raises your capacity to handle difficult business conversations and high conflict situations with composure.Exit planning should begin years before you think it should, ideally well before any buyer conversation starts.Buyers are purchasing a future stream of cash flow, so your business must demonstrate a clear vision, systematized processes, and a strong independent leadership team.Transitioning from operator to steward of your business is what unlocks both enterprise value and personal freedom.Quote of the Show:"Slow down to speed up." - Don McLaughlinLinks:Don McLaughlin’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/donmclaughlinjr/Aligned Ascent’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/alignedascent/Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. Consistency Wins in the Long Run - Brent Peterson - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #163

Today’s guest is incredibly insightful and action-oriented! Introducing Brent Peterson, CEO of Content Cucumber and host of Talk Commerce. Brent partners with host Gregory McDonough to explore the deep parallels between endurance sports and entrepreneurship. He also delves into how pacing, planning, and consistency shape both marathon performance and business success, and why human creativity still matters in an AI-driven world.Takeaways:Brent breaks down how endurance sports and business are governed by the same core principle: structure creates success. Whether pacing a marathon or managing a company, starting too fast or without a plan leads to burnout, while disciplined pacing leads to sustainable outcomes. He emphasizes the importance of preparation, adaptability, and having a backup plan when conditions change unexpectedly. He also highlights consistency as the true differentiator in both content creation and entrepreneurship. Success does not come from short bursts of effort but from showing up repeatedly over time, whether that’s running streaks, weekly podcasts, or disciplined marketing execution. Brent reinforces that stopping and starting repeatedly prevents meaningful progress. Finally, Brent discusses the role of AI in modern content creation and warns against over-reliance on it. While AI is a powerful tool for efficiency and ideation, it often produces generic output without human oversight. He stresses that human voice, editing, and originality remain essential for standing out in an increasingly automated world.Quote of the Show:“Consistency is the King of everything” - Brent PetersonLinks:Brent PetersonContent CucumberWays to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manualChief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. Today’s guest is a visionary growth strategist who challenges business owners to think bigger, lead better, and push beyond perceived limits. Introducing Robert Clinkenbeard, CEO of Wilson360. Robert partners with host Greg McDonough to share how endurance training, strategic coaching, and incremental improvements can help leaders scale businesses, build high-performing teams, and unlock untapped potential. He also delves into the importance of accountability, surrounding yourself with A-players, and why leaders must think beyond small, incremental growth goals to create transformational results.Robert emphasizes that sustainable growth comes from consistent incremental improvements, clear strategy, and surrounding yourself with people who challenge you to perform at a higher level.Takeaways:Think beyond incremental growth and challenge yourself to envision transformational outcomes.Break ambitious goals into smaller, measurable milestones that teams can rally around.Build a team of A-players who elevate conversations, decision-making, and execution.Small operational and cultural improvements compound significantly over time.Accountability is essential, growth requires leaders to make difficult decisions.Strong coaches and mentors should have real-world experience and a proven track record.Peer groups create honest feedback loops that help uncover blind spots faster.Leaders should intentionally plan for life after business ownership, not just the exit itself.Endurance sports and business leadership both require resilience, discipline, and long-term thinking.Great organizations align vision, strategy, and people around a shared purpose.Quote of the Show:“The idea of having a coach is great, but you have to be willing to do the work and make the hard decisions.” - Robert ClinkenbeardLinks:Robert Clinkenbeard’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/robert-clinkenbeard/Wilson360’s Website: https://wilson-360.com/Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. From Corporate Leader to Endurance Coach - Ashley McCabe - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #160

How does an endurance mindset shape leadership, problem-solving, and performance in both sport and business? Today’s guest is a seasoned endurance athlete and former corporate executive who has built her leadership philosophy through sport. Introducing Ashley McCabe, Founder of Bluebird Multisport. Ashley partners with host Gregory McDonough to share how endurance sports shaped her identity as a leader and how those same principles now guide her coaching business. She also delves into problem-solving under pressure, balancing demanding careers with endurance goals, and how leaders can model behaviors like work-life balance and time management in a way that truly resonates with their teams.Takeaways:• Endurance builds real problem-solving skills. Ashley explains that endurance racing teaches you how to respond when things inevitably go wrong, and that same ability translated directly into her leadership style in corporate environments.• Leadership is about modeling behavior, not just saying it. She emphasizes that it’s not enough to encourage work-life balance, leaders must demonstrate it themselves to make it truly acceptable within a team.• Confidence comes from overcoming challenges repeatedly. Through years of racing, Ashley built trust in her ability to handle problems, which became a defining trait in how she led teams and approached complex situations.• Missed workouts should not be forced back in. She shares that trying to cram missed training into an already busy schedule often backfires, and it’s better to reset and move forward.• Recovery starts before the workout. Ashley highlights a shift in mindset, focusing on preparation and pre-session habits is just as important as post-workout recovery.• Structure and time blocking drive consistency. She reinforces that if time isn’t intentionally set aside for training (or important work), it likely won’t happen.• Coaching must adapt to real-life demands. Her “white glove” coaching approach focuses on removing barriers for busy professionals so they can realistically pursue endurance goals alongside demanding careers.Quote of the Show:"It’s not a question of if something is gonna go wrong on race day, right? From the Pool to the Pitch - James Tillman - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #159

Can an endurance mindset built in the pool at age five fuel a clean energy revolution decades later?Today's guest is a visionary entrepreneur at the forefront of clean energy innovation! Introducing James Tillman, CEO and Co-Founder of EVlogic. James partners with host Gregory McDonough to share how more than 16 years in the electric vehicle infrastructure industry shaped his approach to sales, leadership, and building a business with staying power. He also delves into how the endurance mindset he developed as a competitive swimmer translates directly into navigating complex enterprise sales cycles, and how learning to fail fast became just as important as going the distance.Takeaways:James's career arc from the City of Houston to NRG's EV startup to founding EVlogic gave him a layered understanding of how large organizations, startups, and small businesses each require a fundamentally different pace and mindset. His background as a competitive swimmer training 20+ hours a week shaped his approach to enterprise sales, where multimillion-dollar deals can take a year or two to close and require strategic patience and disciplined relationship-building.One of James's most actionable lessons is learning to fail early and fail fast. At his previous company, four out of ten deals he pursued to the bitter end were ultimately canceled, consuming seven to ten months and hundreds of labor hours for nothing. In complex enterprise sales, identifying everyone who can say no is just as critical as finding who can say yes. Missing a key stakeholder late in a deal can delay the close by months and restart the entire sales cycle.James founded EVlogic after recognizing that projects were taking four months and 160+ labor hours from creation to award. His AI-enabled platform handles design, engineering, and pricing of EV charging sites in real time, eliminating the costly two-to-three-week redesign cycles that used to follow every customer change request.James lives by the hiring philosophy "hire hard, manage easy": find someone with the right skillset, relevant experience, and the personality to weather the hard days alongside you, then share the vision and trust them to execute. The US currently has one public charging port for every 30 EVs, compared to one-to-nine in Europe and one-to-two in China. With charging utilization economics already working and deployment growing 30% year over year, James sees a massive and still largely unbuilt market ahead.Quote of the Show:"Everybody kind of sees in business the overnight success and they don't really see the 10 or 14 years, however many years you put into it before you get to that success." - James TillmanLinks:James’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jatillmaniv/EVlogic’s Website: https://evlogic.ai/[email protected] Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. Is It Worth the Price? - Mason Duchatschek - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #158

How do you decide what’s truly worth pursuing when you know you’re capable of almost anything? Today’s guest is a driven and insightful leader who blends endurance mindset with business strategy. Introducing Mason Duchatschek, CEO of Workforce Alchemy. Mason joins host Gregory McDonough to share how shifting from “can I do this?” to “should I do this?” fundamentally changes how leaders make decisions and pursue growth. He dives into how endurance mindset shapes leadership, why surrounding yourself with the right people accelerates performance, and how businesses can unlock hidden value by improving hiring, engagement, and development systems. Mason also shares lessons from endurance sports, emphasizing discipline, discomfort tolerance, and the importance of structure, process, and accountability in both athletics and business.Takeaways:Shift from “can” to “should” thinking. Mason explains that success comes from assuming capability and instead evaluating whether the outcome is worth the required investment of time, energy, and resources.Success requires paying a clear price. Every goal comes with trade-offs. Leaders must decide what they are willing to give up, including time, comfort, and competing priorities, to achieve meaningful outcomes.Growth comes from sustained discomfort. He emphasizes that endurance and business success both require the ability to stay uncomfortable for extended periods while continuing to move forward.Your environment shapes your performance. Train Smarter with Glucose Data - Hunter Allen - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #157

How can managing your glucose levels unlock better performance, energy, and long-term health? Today’s guest is a pioneering endurance coach and data-driven performance expert. Introducing Hunter Allen, Founder of Peaks Coaching Group. Hunter partners with host Gregory McDonough to share how continuous glucose monitoring is transforming the way athletes train, perform, and think about longevity. He also delves into how glucose stability impacts energy, recovery, and long-term health outcomes.Takeaways:• Glucose is a primary driver of performance and energy Hunter explains that glucose is a key fuel source for the body, powering cellular energy production and directly impacting how muscles perform during training and racing.• Unstable glucose leads to performance crashes He describes how athletes often create a “rollercoaster” of energy by overcorrecting low glucose with excess intake, leading to repeated spikes and crashes instead of steady performance.• Priming glucose before effort improves output Hunter highlights that there is a delay in glucose availability at the start of intense efforts, and properly fueling beforehand can prevent early deficits in performance.• Athletes respond differently to glucose timing He breaks down how individuals absorb glucose at different rates, requiring personalized timing strategies to optimize performance before events or hard training sessions.• Continuous glucose monitors unlock new training insights CGMs allow athletes and coaches to track real-time data, helping them understand how fueling, stress, and effort impact performance in ways that were not previously possible.• Longevity depends on metabolic health Hunter emphasizes that managing glucose is not just about performance, but about protecting long-term health, particularly by reducing stress on the pancreas and preventing metabolic disease. Quote of the Show:"A real simple takeaway is just get rid of as much saturated fat outta your diet as you can." - Hunter AllenLinks:Hunter Allen’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/hunter-allen-9b2996a/Peak Coaching Group’s Website: http://www.peakscoachinggroup.com/peaks-coaching-group-tour-de-france-ftp-challengeBook:  trainingandcompetingwithacgm.comWays to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. Break Big Goals Into Small Wins - Damian Hall - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #156

How do you stay mentally strong when the finish line feels impossibly far away? Today’s guest is an inspiring and deeply thoughtful endurance athlete who brings a powerful perspective to both sport and life. Introducing Damian Hall, Great Britain ultramarathon runner, endurance coach, author, and environmental advocate. Damian partners with host Gregory McDonough to share how the endurance mindset shapes not only extreme racing but also parenting, career decisions, and long-term goals. He also delves into how breaking down overwhelming challenges into manageable steps can unlock progress and resilience.Takeaways:• Break overwhelming goals into manageable pieces. Damian explains that in a 100-mile race, thinking about the full distance can feel impossible. By focusing only on the next mile or checkpoint, progress becomes achievable. This same approach applies to business, parenting, and any long-term goal.• Focus on what you can control in the moment. Instead of worrying about the full journey ahead, success comes from asking, “What can I do right now?” Staying present reduces stress and builds forward momentum.• Endurance can be both a strength and a risk. Damian highlights that the ability to “stick things out” can sometimes lead people to remain in situations longer than they should. Leaders must balance resilience with awareness of when change is necessary.• Passion and curiosity drive long-term fulfillment. From journalism to running to writing, Damian followed interests that genuinely engaged him. This curiosity-led path created opportunities and sustained motivation over time.• Progress gets harder near the finish line. Whether writing a book or finishing a race, the final stretch is often the most difficult. Recognizing this helps individuals push through when motivation dips.• Consistency matters more than perfection. Success in endurance sports and life is not about flawless execution. It is about continuing forward, even when conditions are imperfect or progress feels slow.• Individual action matters, but systemic change is critical. Damian emphasizes that while personal responsibility is important, large-scale change requires action from organizations and leaders. This perspective applies to both environmental impact and broader leadership challenges.Quote of the Show:"You don’t have to solve everything at once. Do the Hard Thing First - Paul Ayres - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #155

What if the difference between success and stagnation is simply your willingness to endure the hard things others avoid? Today’s guest is a disciplined, thoughtful leader who embodies the endurance mindset in both business and life. Introducing Paul Ayres, CEO, Owner, and Board Chair of Red Flint Group. Paul partners with host Gregory McDonough to share how endurance, deliberate practice, and alignment drive meaningful results. He also delves into how leaders can avoid distraction, define clear outcomes, and build the discipline required to execute at a high level.Takeaways:• Endurance mindset is the foundation of long-term success. Paul explains that success comes from the ability to push through difficulty rather than redirect when things get uncomfortable. Leaders who stay the course are the ones who ultimately achieve meaningful results.• Lack of clarity leads to distraction and underperformance. When leaders do not clearly define their destination, it becomes easy to lose focus. Quantifying goals and working backward creates clarity and makes execution far more achievable.• Deliberate practice builds real capability. Whether in sport or business, improvement does not happen by accident. Practicing difficult scenarios like tough conversations or leadership decisions sharpens performance when it matters most.• Do hard things outside of work to grow inside it. Paul emphasizes that pushing yourself physically or mentally outside of your career builds discipline, resilience, and mental toughness that directly translates into business performance.• Alignment across life domains is critical. Balancing family, career, and personal pursuits requires intentional alignment. Without it, efforts become scattered and progress slows.• Focus and consistency outperform scattered effort. Trying to do too many things at once reduces effectiveness. Most people can excel at a few key areas, and sustained focus in those areas leads to better long-term outcomes.• Continuous learning fuels growth and leadership. Paul highlights the importance of curiosity and ongoing education. Leaders who actively seek to learn and improve are better equipped to navigate complexity and drive resultsQuote of the Show:"The endurance mindset has to do with enduring whatever needs to be endured to get to the result." - Paul AyresLinks:Paul Ayres’ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paul-ayres-9681a424/Red Flint Group’s Website: http://www.redflint.comWays to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast

Unlocking Mindset, Health, and AI - Joe Gagnon - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #154

What if the biggest barrier to peak performance isn’t time or talent, but how you choose to design your life each day? Today’s guest is a visionary entrepreneur and endurance-driven leader redefining what’s possible! Introducing Joe Gagnon, CEO and Co-Founder of Raynmaker. Joe partners with host Gregory McDonough to share how intentional living, endurance training, and AI are reshaping both personal performance and modern business. He also delves into how embracing discomfort, structuring your time, and building daily discipline can unlock exponential growth in every area of life.Takeaways:Mindset, health, and AI are the three modern unlocks. Joe explains that personal transformation starts internally with mindset, is sustained through physical health, and is now exponentially accelerated through AI. When combined, these three create an unfair advantage in both life and business.Living intentionally requires structure, not motivation. Success is not about bursts of inspiration. It comes from designing your days with purpose, tracking your habits, and removing negotiation from the commitments that matter most.• Discomfort is the pathway to growth, not a warning sign. Many people avoid pain, failure, and struggle, but Joe reframes them as signals of progress. Leaning into discomfort builds resilience and expands what you believe is possible.Time is your most valuable and underutilized asset. Most people have more available time than they think. By auditing how time is spent and aligning it with meaningful goals, you can create significant progress without drastic life changes.Identity shapes outcomes more than goals do. Sustainable growth happens when you decide who you want to become and align daily actions with that identity. When habits become non-negotiable, results follow naturally.Entrepreneurship thrives on curiosity, energy, and wisdom. Joe highlights that the best founders combine childlike curiosity, youthful energy, and seasoned perspective. This blend fuels innovation and keeps leaders adaptable in fast-changing environments.AI is redefining performance and business leverage. Through Raynmaker, Joe demonstrates how AI can now replicate and improve complex human tasks like sales. Leaders who embrace AI as a core capability will dramatically outperform those who resist it.Quote of the Show:"The first unlock in our life is our mindset. The second unlock is our health. Introducing Sam Morris, Founder and CEO of Flinki. Sam partners with host Gregory McDonough to share how extreme endurance challenges shape leadership mindset, decision making, and resilience. He also delves into the lessons endurance athletes learn about preparation, emotional discipline, and controlling the controllable when conditions become unpredictable.Sam reflects on rowing unsupported across the Atlantic Ocean, building businesses across global markets, and the mental strategies that help leaders stay focused through uncertainty. The conversation highlights how endurance principles apply directly to leadership, teamwork, and navigating complex challenges in both business and life.Takeaways:Control the Controllable: Endurance sports force athletes to accept that many external conditions are outside their control. Sam explains that strong leaders focus their energy on preparation, discipline, and execution rather than worrying about variables they cannot influence.Mental Resilience Outweighs Physical Strength: Extreme endurance challenges reveal that the mind often fails before the body does. Developing mental toughness and emotional regulation allows leaders and athletes alike to push beyond perceived limits.Preparation Reduces Chaos Under Pressure: Careful planning and preparation create stability when situations become unpredictable. Sam emphasizes that disciplined preparation allows leaders to remain calm and make better decisions when conditions suddenly change.Team Dynamics Are Magnified Under Stress: In high pressure environments like ocean rowing, emotions and communication are amplified. Leaders who embrace difficult experiences gain deeper insight into how they respond to stress and uncertainty.Consistency Creates Long Term Performance: Sustained performance is built through daily discipline and steady progress. Powered by Connection - Patrick McCrann - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #152

What if your real competitive edge isn’t grit, but your ability to connect people? Today’s guest is a master community builder and endurance athlete who has turned long-distance discipline into a business superpower. Introducing Patrick McCrann, Head of Core at Hampton and Founder of Endurance Nation. Patrick sits down with host Gregory McDonough to share how an endurance mindset fuels leadership, why community starts with just two people, and how small, consistent actions compound into extraordinary outcomes. He also delves into the power of curiosity, the courage to absorb social “no’s,” and how video and vulnerability can deepen connection in a digital world.Takeaways:The community starts with just two people. Real scale doesn’t come from broadcasting to many, it comes from creating meaningful one-to-one connections that multiply organically.Curiosity is a leadership advantage. Asking thoughtful questions builds trust, uncovers opportunity, and strengthens your network faster than trying to impress people with answers.Send personalized video messages to deepen relationships. A short, authentic video creates far more emotional connection than text alone and helps you stand out in a crowded digital world.Get comfortable hearing “no.” Reducing the fear of social rejection unlocks new relationships, partnerships, and unexpected opportunities.Stay in motion to stay relevant. People are drawn to what you are actively doing, not just what you’ve done in the past, movement creates momentum and conversation.Strong peer groups accelerate growth. Consistent, structured conversations with trusted peers provide clarity, accountability, and perspective that solo effort can’t replicate.Quote of the Show:" The longer you play the game, the better you get at the game. Performing Where it Counts - Rasmus Barfred - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #151

What does it take to build world-class performance in both sport and business? In this episode of Chief Endurance Officer, Greg McDonough sits down with Rasmus Barfred, elite triathlete, high-performance leader, and CoFounder of THEMAGIC5 to explore how endurance principles translate directly into leadership, resilience, and long-term success.Rasmus shares how the mental discipline required in endurance racing mirrors what it takes to grow a company, lead a team, and navigate adversity. From pushing through physical limits to staying focused during uncertainty, he reveals the mindset that separates short bursts of success from sustained excellence.Takeaways:Endurance Is a Strategic Advantage: Endurance isn’t just physical stamina, it’s the ability to stay focused, disciplined, and consistent over time. In both business and sport, those who outlast the competition often outperform those who rely solely on bursts of talent or momentum.Preparation Determines Performance: When pressure hits, you don’t rise to the occasion, you fall back on your preparation. Intentional training, repetition, and systems create confidence and clarity when stakes are high.Discomfort Is a Growth Tool: Growth happens at the edge of comfort. Rasmus emphasizes deliberately leaning into challenging environments to strengthen mental resilience, decision-making under stress, and emotional control.Play the Long Game: Sustainable success comes from pacing, patience, and perspective. Short-term wins can be exciting, but long-term dominance requires strategic thinking, consistent effort, and the discipline to avoid distraction.Consistency Compounds: The small habits executed daily are what create extraordinary outcomes over time. Whether training for endurance racing or building a company, long-term performance is the result of repeated disciplined actions.Mindset Drives Results: Physical strength matters, but mental strength is decisive. The ability to stay calm, focused, and committed when others start to fade is what creates separation in both athletics and leadership.Quote of the Show:"Endurance is about managing your energy, your mindset, and your focus over time , because success rarely goes to the most talented, it goes to the most consistent." - Rasmus BarfredSee Ramsmus on Shark Tank! : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OW1VPGmSIdkLinks:Rasmus Barfred’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rasmus-barfred-38a5b636/THEMAGIC5’s Website: https://themagic5.com/GUEST NAME OR COMPANY’s Twitter: https://x.com/rbarfredWays to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. Human Will Behind Great Companies - Aaron Miller - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode #149

In this episode of the Chief Endurance Officer Podcast, host Greg McDonough sits down with Aaron Miller, Principal at Will Ventures, to explore how endurance, curiosity, and human will shape founders, athletes, and long-term success.Aaron shares how intellectual curiosity has driven his own endurance mindset, why the most successful founders are among the most resilient people in the world, and how early-stage investing is fundamentally a bet on character, vision, and persistence. The conversation spans the evolution of college sports, the future of consumer health and longevity, and the mental and emotional endurance required to build something meaningful over decades.Takeaways:Endurance is often fueled by curiosity, not just adversity. A deep desire to learn, explore, and understand new ideas can sustain long-term effort and motivation. The best founders are defined by resilience, not rationality. Building a company requires persistence through repeated setbacks, uncertainty, and moments when failure feels inevitable.Human will is a competitive advantage. Talent and ideas matter, but the ability to keep going when momentum disappears separates successful builders from everyone else.Founding a company is an emotional and psychological marathon. Endurance isn’t just physical, it’s mental, requiring years of sustained belief and discipline. Not every business needs venture capital. Founders must honestly assess whether their vision requires external funding or a different growth path.Markets matter as much as ideas. Personal need can spark a product, but long-term success depends on solving a problem at a meaningful scale.Longevity applies to performance beyond sports. The same principles that extend athletic careers, recovery, learning, adaptation, apply to founders and leaders.Quote of the Show:"Endurance isn’t just physical, it’s the ability to believe for years before results show up."  - Aaron MillerLinks:Aaron Miller’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/aaron-miller-0ba47a78/Will Venture’s Website: http://willventures.comWays to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/  Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. The Science of a Healthier Human - Aly Cohen - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode # 147

How can endurance thinking, environmental awareness, and small daily choices protect long-term health and performance? Today’s guest is a pioneering physician and educator who blends resilience, science, and real-world action to help people take control of their health. Introducing Dr. Aly Cohen, Integrative Rheumatologist, Environmental Health Expert, and Founder of The Smart Human. Aly partners with host Gregory McDonough to share how an endurance mindset shaped her career, why reframing challenges fuels resilience, and how everyday environmental exposures quietly impact immune health and performance. She also delves into practical, science-backed ways leaders and athletes can reduce toxic load, improve recovery, and create healthier environments for themselves and their communities.Takeaways:Endurance is built through resilience and reframing. Aly explains how viewing obstacles as “challenging” rather than “hard” helps leaders and athletes stay mentally flexible and forward-focused.Past wins create future confidence. Building a mental library of small and large successes allows leaders to draw strength during difficult moments.Environmental health affects performance more than most people realize. Athletes and high performers take in more air, water, and food, increasing exposure to toxins that can impact inflammation and recovery.Water quality matters as much as hydration. Clean, filtered water is one of the most impactful and accessible changes for improving overall health and reducing toxic burden.Small swaps create measurable results. Studies show that simple changes in food packaging, personal care products, and cleaning supplies can significantly lower chemical exposure in just weeks.Support the body’s natural detox systems. Movement, sweating, sleep, clean nutrition, and hydration help the body eliminate toxins efficiently.Leaders can shape healthier cultures. Executives and business owners have an opportunity to improve employee well-being through education, safer environments, and thoughtful wellness initiatives.Quote of the Show:" You can do big things when you start with the little things." - Aly CohenLinks:Aly’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/aly-cohen-md-facr-0b570749/ Website: https://alycohenmd.com/ The Smart Human: https://thesmarthuman.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thesmarthuman/ Twitter: https://x.com/TheSmartHuman Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. Plan Beyond A - Tony Medrano - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Ep. #146

How can endurance training, risk planning, and creative problem-solving help founders survive chaos and build resilient companies? Today’s guest is a high-performance founder who blends endurance athletics, military leadership, and AI innovation to tackle uncertainty head-on. Introducing Tony Medrano, Founder and CEO of Longevity Plan AI. Tony partners with host Gregory McDonough to share how an endurance mindset built through Ironman racing translates directly to startup leadership, decision-making under pressure, and navigating unforeseen setbacks. He also delves into risk planning beyond “Plan A,” building credibility before scale, and how personalized AI-driven health optimization can empower both athletes and entrepreneurs for long-term performance.Takeaways:Endurance is a problem-solving skill, not just pain tolerance. Tony reframes endurance as creativity under constraint, showing leaders how adaptability and ingenuity matter more than brute force when plans break down.Train for uncertainty, not perfection. Whether launching a startup or racing an Ironman, success comes from narrowing variables, preparing contingencies, and accepting that disruptions will happen mid-course.Always plan beyond Plan A. Leaders should identify their top five risks early and map mitigation strategies instead of relying on optimism or manifestation alone.Build credibility before you need it. Publishing insights, signaling expertise, and showing up consistently attracts opportunities long before enterprise buyers or investors raise their hands.Constraints can unlock innovation. Tony’s injury-forced “hacks” during his Ironman mirror how founders can turn limited resources into competitive advantages.AI works best when it’s personal. Longevity Plan AI focuses on individualized health data, reminding leaders that one-size-fits-all metrics rarely drive peak performance.Endurance sports recalibrate stress tolerance. After surviving extreme physical challenges, business setbacks feel more manageable helping leaders stay calm, focused, and resilient.Quote of the Show:"If you are speaking more than 50% of the time, you are doing a bad job as a sales or an entrepreneur because you're not listening." - Ned PhillipsLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tonymedrano/  Company website: https://longevityplan.ai/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/anthonypmedrano/?hl=en  Longevity Plan AI Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/longevityplanai/?hl=en Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/  Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. Pacing for Longevity - Ned Phillips - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode # 145

How can endurance, ownership, and gratitude help leaders navigate failure and build lasting success, both in business and in life?Today’s guest is a sales executive, entrepreneur, and ultra-endurance athlete who proves that the mindset required to survive 40-hour races is the same mindset needed to survive, and grow, from business failure. Introducing Ned Phillips, founder of The Sales Movement, host of The Sell and One More K, and 2024 Singapore Backyard Ultra Champion. They explore the intersection of endurance sports and entrepreneurship. From navigating a startup failure to completing 40 hours at the Backyard Ultra World Championships, Ned shares hard-earned lessons on grit, sales mastery, and sustainable performance.TakeawaysBuild resilience through intentional discomfort. Endurance training—physical or professional, strengthens your ability to handle real-world crises with clarity and composure.Practice extreme ownership. Celebrate wins with your team, but take 100% responsibility for failures, no blame, no excuses.Sell outcomes, not yourself. Customers don’t want your product; they want the benefit it provides. If you’re talking more than 50% of the time, you’re doing it wrong.Reframe failure as education. Business setbacks can become your greatest leadership advantage when approached with honesty and gratitude.Pace for sustainability, not speed. Like Backyard Ultra racing, leadership rewards consistency, recovery, and showing up hour after hour, not burning out early.Review everything to improve faster. Record and study your sales calls, pitches, and conversations, greatness requires deliberate practice.Lift credibility through transparency. Build in public, and be willing to fail in public with the same integrity.Quote of the Show:"If you are speaking more than 50% of the time, you are doing a bad job as a sales or an entrepreneur because you're not listening." - Ned PhillipsLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ned-phillipvs/  The Sales Movement Company website: https://thesalesmovement.co/  Ned’s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nedphillips2/?hl=en Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. Hiring in the AI Age - Justin Dixon - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Episode # 144

How do endurance thinking, smart hiring, and AI-savvy recruiting help founders build resilient, scalable businesses?Today’s guest is an insightful founder and recruiting leader who blends an endurance mindset, disciplined goal-setting, and real-world hiring strategy to help leaders grow through uncertainty. Introducing Justin Dixon, Founder and CEO of Hire Tomorrow. Justin partners with host Gregory McDonough to share how thinking in “a series of sprints,” simplifying goals, and hiring earlier than feels comfortable can unlock sustainable growth. He also delves into navigating AI’s disruption of recruiting, avoiding common startup hiring mistakes, and building resilience when timing and conditions are out of your control.TakeawaysThink in sprints, not just marathons. Balance long-term vision with quarterly execution, and stay flexible as conditions change.Build accountability into goal-setting. Use annual planning with quarterly check-ins to review progress, pivot, and celebrate wins.Hire earlier than feels comfortable. Don’t wait for perfection; delegate tasks below your value level to free up strategic focus.Avoid unicorn hires. Define one clear role with success metrics instead of expecting one person to do three jobs.Adapt to AI-disrupted recruiting. More applicants don’t mean better candidates, filter for quality and don’t rely on “post and pray.”Use a two-resume strategy as a job seeker. ATS-friendly resumes for applications; polished PDFs for interviews.Control your response, not timing. Endurance, adaptability, and system-building turn short-term chaos into long-term advantage.Quote of the Show:“Sometimes you have to run at a very fast clip in your business or in life to get to that next hurdle." - Justin DixonLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jmdixon15/  Company website: https://www.hiretomorrow.com/ Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. With the holiday season inviting reflection, this episode celebrates the lessons learned from a milestone year, including the podcast’s 100th episode, and the enduring theme that connects it all: endurance-driven leadership.Throughout the year, guests from across business, athletics, and life shared stories that reinforced one truth: endurance is not just about persistence, it’s about community, resilience, innovation, and consistency. Building Endurance in Business and Life - Katrina Purcell with Greg McDonough - Episode # 135

What can endurance training teach us about scaling a business, and how do you know when it’s time to build structure into your chaos? Professional speaker, fractional operations leader, and Ironman finisher Katrina Purcell joins Greg to share how endurance training has shaped her mindset as an entrepreneur and operations strategist. From running her first half-marathon to founding her own company, Katrina’s story shows how structure, discipline, and resilience translate into business growth. She reveals how she helps founders turn chaos into clarity when it’s time to start building SOPs, and why ruthless prioritization, not doing more, is the key to scaling sustainably.Takeaways:Structure fuels freedom. The discipline learned in endurance sports mirrors what’s required in business; building systems allows you to eventually step away.Start operational planning when you can’t take a week off. That’s your cue that your business depends too much on you and needs process support.Ruthless prioritization drives growth. 10x growth requires cutting more than adding; create a “not doing” list before a to-do list.Find your coach. Just like in Ironman training, every founder needs a guide, someone who can see what you can’t and keep you accountable.Celebrate progress, not just performance. High-performing teams thrive when leaders intentionally pause to recognize small wins.Failure breeds connection. Sharing setbacks builds authenticity, resilience, and stronger communities than sharing only successes.Journal the journey. Reflecting on your daily wins, losses, and learnings creates perspective and a roadmap for future challenges.Quote of the Show:"Growing 10x is easier than 2x because you have to not do a lot of things. From Physics to Fitness: How Markus Rummel Is Redefining Endurance with AI - Greg McDonough - # 134

How can endurance and curiosity fuel innovation in business and technology? As a physicist turned entrepreneur and triathlete, Markus Rummel has learned that the endurance mindset applies just as much to startups as it does to sport. Now the founder of AI Endurance, Markus is revolutionizing training through machine learning, helping athletes create personalized, data-driven plans that adapt in real time. In this conversation, he shares how tinkering with data as a side project evolved into a full-fledged company and what it takes to push through the long, uncertain road from idea to impact.Takeaways:Endurance applies to entrepreneurship. Success in business, like endurance sports, comes from consistent effort over time. You rarely see immediate results, but persistence compounds.Curiosity drives innovation. Markus’s company began with a simple question: “Why isn’t anyone using all this training data?” Great ideas often come from noticing what others overlook.Learn by doing and failing. Early versions of AI Endurance “sucked,” as Markus admits, but each iteration revealed the next right step. Failure is a teacher, not a verdict.Listen to your customers, not your friends. Real validation comes from strangers willing to pay and give honest feedback. That’s when you know you’re building something real.Fix your weakest link. Whether it’s cycling in a triathlon or a bottleneck in your product, continuous improvement starts by strengthening what holds you back the most.Balance vision with adaptability. Having a long-term vision is crucial, but so is staying agile. Endurance in leadership means knowing when to grind and when to pivot.Use AI to elevate human potential. Markus sees the future of AI as a partnership—where data and algorithms handle the analysis so humans can focus on performance, creativity, and connection.Quote of the Show:" Certain mistakes you just have to make because they give you a true appreciation for what could go wrong, how hard it is, and what's the right way to do things." - Markus RummelLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/markusrummel/  Company website: https://aiendurance.com/ Markus’ Email: [email protected] Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. Why Consistency is King - Lincoln Murdoch - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Ep # 133

How can building an endurance mindset transform the way leaders approach challenges in business and life? In this episode, Greg McDonough sits down with Lincoln Murdoch, a coach, speaker, author, and endurance athlete with over 40 years of competitive experience. From triathlons to leadership training, Lincoln has learned how the endurance mindset applies far beyond racing. He shares how setbacks shaped his self-confidence, the lessons from racing on the world stage, and how perseverance can carry over into every area of leadership and life.Takeaways:Endurance builds resilience. Just like in racing, leaders should expect setbacks, prepare for them, and keep moving forward when challenges arise.Deep roots matter. Leaders must anchor themselves in values, whether faith, family, or purpose, so they remain steady when adversity strikes.Confidence comes from perseverance. Success isn’t immediate; consistent effort and learning from failures build long-term confidence in leadership.Consistency is king. Growth comes from showing up daily, improving incrementally, and committing to the long game in both business and endurance sports.Turn intimidation into confidence. Endurance training teaches leaders to walk into any room, whether with clients, peers, or competitors, with quiet self-assurance.Success carries over. Accomplishments in one area, like athletics, reinforce discipline and courage that leaders can apply to every facet of life.Quote of the Show:" I discovered I had a gift. Marc Champagne on Mental Fitness, Burnout, and an Endurance Mindset with Greg McDonough - Ep # 132

What does it mean to build endurance in your mind, and how can leaders apply it to business and life? In this episode of Chief Endurance Officer, Greg McDonough sits down with Marc Champagne, mental fitness strategist, bestselling author, and host of Behind the Human. Marc shares his journey from the corporate world to becoming a pioneer in mental fitness, and how developing an “endurance mindset” helped him overcome setbacks, navigate burnout, and support high-performing leaders and teams. Through practical strategies and personal stories, Marc reveals why mental fitness is as critical as physical training and how leaders can audit their daily habits, fuel their minds with the right “mental nutrition,” and build resilience for both business and life.Takeaways:Mental endurance is built through daily practices, not just in crisis moments. Checking in with yourself even briefly can reset your mindset and prevent burnout.Burnout in business mirrors endurance sports: without recovery and rest, you’ll eventually break down. Leaders must prioritize recovery as much as effort.A clear goal or “event” in business can motivate consistency, just as training for an Ironman keeps athletes focused during tough days.Mental audits help leaders see where their attention and energy are going. Consistency Over Perfection - Mike Alberts - Chief Endurance Officer with Greg McDonough - Ep # 131

In this episode, Greg sits down with Mike Alberts, Principal and Head of Business Development at Cohere Capital, a 3x Ironman finisher, and a passionate advocate for endurance sports. Mike shares how lessons learned from triathlon, consistency, resilience, and community have shaped both his personal life and professional career. From reframing training as “layers of paint” to building authentic relationships through shared runs, Mike shows that endurance sports aren’t just about racing; they’re about creating a mindset that drives success in business and beyond.Takeaways:Consistency is the foundation of growth. Just like triathlon training, business success comes from small, steady efforts compounded over time.Support systems matter. Whether in family, sport, or leadership, surrounding yourself with people who encourage you makes challenges more manageable.Community creates resilience. Shared experiences outside the boardroom, like running or biking, can build deeper relationships than formal meetings.Don’t chase perfection. Progress often comes with setbacks—embracing imperfection can reduce pressure and lead to better performance.Reframe goals as learning opportunities. Shifting from performance goals to learning goals takes pressure off and builds long-term confidence.Vulnerability builds trust. Sharing authentic struggles, like Mike’s wife racing through illness, inspires teams to push forward even when things aren’t ideal.Business, like endurance sports, is personal. Finding what motivates people beyond their work strengthens relationships and makes leadership more impactful.Quote of the Show:" Don't give up because pain's temporary and quitting is forever." - Mike AlbertsLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/albertsmike/ Company website: https://www.coherecapital.com/  Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ Keep up to date on our social accounts:Check out our Website: http://enduranceofficer.com/ Community Discount Link: https://ceopodcast.myezrewards.com/signup/chief-endurance-officer-podcast  Join my Endurance Leadership Community: https://endurance-leadership-community.mn.co/share/_C3ZDRz7OX2vbCme?utm_source=manual Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts.
