The words of the day are “please” “qing” 请 and “thank you” 谢谢 “xiexie”. Jiajia and Chris talk about pet shenanigans, oatmeal and happy chickens. 

The word of the day is “earrings” 耳环 “er huan”. Jiajia and Chris talk about missing earrings, long hair, and Jiajia with long, permed blonde hair, piercing his ear with a needle back in his 20s.

The phrase of the day is “roll over”, “dagun”, 打滚. Chris also recounts again how Jiajia got into big trouble and her early experiences with the iPhone.

The word of the day is “What”, “shenme”  什么 which is useful for a myriad of situations. There’s a myriad of new coffee shops throughout Lishui and Shiqiu including the new Sky Pool Coffee, the Migrant Cafe and East Shijiu Lake Restaurant Tea Coffee Drinks where Jiajia had the best dessert cake of his life!

Today’s phrase is “too hot” 太热了 “tai re le”. It works for weather, food and handsome people. [呲牙] Jiajia gives an update on his mom, and Chris corrects herself.

The most important word in the English language is “coffee” 咖啡 “ka fei”. Okay.  At least it is to Chris. JiaJia’s favorite word is “fish” 鱼 “yu” and since his birthday is coming he’s angling for a new fishing pole, despite his denials!

Jiajia has cake and eats it, too! The word of the day is “cake“ 蛋糕 “dan gao”. It’s delicious, but Chris’s tummy says, ” No, thank you“.

The word of the day is “banana”. 香蕉 “xiang jiao”.  We give a “Lucky One” update and decide to be patient (yes, Chris. That means you!).

Jiajia and Chris extol the deliciousness of fermented tofu, revisit red flower oil, and talk about shortening attention spans.

Typhoons Saudel, Zitan and Janravi are all on their way toward China. Chris and Jiajia order a toilet trainer for Lucky and Tommy whines so much, she gets to sit on the couch.

Chris and Jiajia talk about their air conditioning woes, Jiajia is shocked by Chris’ choice of words and they discuss how to say “pie” and “tart” in Chinese.

Jiajia and Chris give a Lucky update, talk about tricks and tips in taking in a stray animal, and how Charlie claimed Tommy as his dog. 

Jiajia took a spill after tripping on the dog gate and Chris gives him tons of advice on what to do. She loves it when she gets a chance to be bossy! 

Cherries and Jiajia talk about pomegranates, perfect rice, tofu wrappers and the history of the sandwich. Obviously they’re hungry as evidenced by their stomachs growling in the background. 

Jiajia reminisces about growing up and not always making the wisest decisions. Chris agrees wholeheartedly and says they’re both lucky to be alive. 

Once a week Jiajia talks about fishing, and today’s the day! Chris wonders if fish have lunch at noon and the back of Tommy’s head makes a special guest appearance on the video feed! 

Jiajia and Chris talk about Lucky One and the journey she’s taken. Chris is over the moon with joy and Jiajia now has an excuse to fish! 

Jiajia and Chris do a little housekeeping and give an update on the words, “sure” and “lovers”. They’re also enjoying the cooler weather thanks to Typhoon Dolphin. Charlie the tuxedo cat keeps jumping to and fro like Spider-Man! 

As Typhoon Dolphin approaches, Jiajia and Chris discuss the difference between dolphins and porpoises. Jiajia also tells us how dolphins party. They sound suspiciously like Frat Boys.

Chris and Jiajia continue with their overview of Shengsi Island and talk about the Lingyin Temple, Dabei Mountain, and the Green Ghost Fishing Village before drifting off into their own sea of verbal nonsense.

It’s been a long time since they were there, but Chris and Jiajia recall the beauty and mystery of Shengsi Island near Shanghai. They also give you some travel tips. Now you can get there by helicopter! Will wonders never cease! 

Jiajia and Chris are enjoying the cooler weather as Typhoon Dolphin approaches, Tommy and Charlie take power naps, Jiajia explains the fascination with jade in Chinese culture and Chris and Jiajia recall a wonderful trip to Shengsi Island near Shanghai, a seafood paradise.

Jiajia and Chris give some tips on fingernails (pun intended), talk about the do’s and don’ts of nail care and sing Happy Birthday to Sean! Tommy snores throughout the show for added sound effects and ambience. 

Once a week, Jiajia gets to talk about fishing and that’s today. He explains why he loves fishing so much and agrees not to go fishing until the cool weather returns.

Jiajia and Chris explore the benefits of bitter melon and cucumbers, debunk cucumber slices on the eyes as a miracle cure and promote getting rid of your mirrors and living by candlelight.

Jiajia and Chris are venturing into the world of TikTok and WeChat channels. They’re back home in the air conditioning and Tommy the Yellow Lab makes an appearance, thanks to firecrackers outside. She is even allowed on the couch!

Chris drags Jiajia to the Nanjing Science and Technology Museum on a very hot summer day! Being an astronaut, going on a spacewalk, traveling through time to see the dinosaurs and holding a giant lizard was a fun packed thrill ride for Chris! Jiajia is ecstatic to be home again in the air conditioning. Look for our video version on Tiktok! 

Tommy always steals just one of Chris’ shoes which makes her crazy! Jiajia thinks it’s hilarious, of course. Chris also talks about the many podcasts produced by “China Plus” which she enjoys and recommends. She also goes all fan girl on writer Edith Eaton.

Chris swears by lemon water in the summer and Jiajia is beginning to get on the bandwagon. He’d like a little sugar in it, though. 

Sure. Jiajia goes ballistic when Chris says that word, so they delve into the what’s and why’s of JiaJia’s reaction. Needless to say, (but we’ll say it anyway) Chris is going to be sure to avoid that word in the future!

Jiajia tells Chris not to pluck her long eyebrow hair. Chris compromises by just cutting it back when Jiajia is not looking. He thinks it’s cute. She says it’s just plain weird.

Everyone is feeling hot, and not in a good way. Jiajia and Chris moan about the hot, humid summer but are happy that relief is in sight. They also discuss parasols and sun umbrellas.

Chris spends time talking about the wonderful Ramona Bugayong and her fabulous husband Pete, Jiajia gives a fishing update and Chris and Jiajia discuss how different people impact our lives at different times, but always have a special place in our hearts.

Chris is outraged that Jiajia never let Oliver try his fishing pole despite being out for 6 hours, Jiajia backtracks and makes excuses and explains Chinese fishing culture. Chris remains unconvinced.

Jiajia shares his true feelings about the yoghurt latte Chris made for him. Chris keeps mixing up the words yoga and yoghurt, and Jiajia is horrified by a cat and dog video featuring Charlie and Tommy. 

Jiajia and Chris say the word “banana”a lot and discuss knock-knock jokes, explore the dos and don’ts of making yoghurt lattes, and Jiajia almost faints from hunger.

Charlie got to go to the vet today and came home wearing a collar. He is not pleased. Jiajia and Chris bicker over whether he really needs a collar or not. Jiajia reminisces over drinking condensed milk as a child and Chris considers eating raw banana peels.

Chris and Jiajia talk about the true shape of raindrops, Chris rhapsodizes about Big Macs, and Jiajia Is moved by Chris talking about how to help save stray animals. 

Jiajia and Chris share the latest weather update on Bavi, Jiajia has a fever dream about his abs, and Jiajia translates safety tips to use during a lightning storm.

The heavy rain is here and lightning is sure to follow. While Tommy continues to decimate her bone, Jiajia and Chris discuss thunder and lightning and Benjamin Franklin. 

Jiajia and Chris delve deeper into typhoons and tornadoes, their differences and impacts as well as their differing attitudes towards little animals.

Typhoon Bavi is on the mainland. Jiajia and Chris talk about how Bavi got its name, what to expect and a snoring dog guarding her precious bone.

Chris tells Jiajia about how Taihu Lake got its name, theories on how it was formed, successful  restoration efforts, the return of the “Three Whites” which are crucial to the local “boat cuisine” and its important place on the Silk Road. She then tells him three local myths, and how Biluochun tea got its name. 

Charlie keeps “meyowling” at Chris so she’s resorted to spritzing water at him. Effective, yes. Traumatizing? Maybe…Jiajia gives a Japanese language update and Chris is feeling better about her Chinese.

Jiajia gets to live the dream; camping by his own private fishing spot. Chris talks about scallion pancakes and JiaJia’s stomach growls. Tommy joins the podcast by running and barking in her dreams.

Chris and Jiajia go Glamping at the Lucen Resort on Taihu Lake. Chris loved the bubble house and ambience, Jiajia as usual, is all about the fish.
