Christ served us, rules over us, and gives us our vocations in this world. So let us serve accordingly in our callings… 1. When under authority, let us serve: (vv. 5-8) a. With sincerity before Christ. (5) b. With faith in Christ. (6-7) c. With hope in Christ. (8) 2. When exercising authority, let us rule: (v. 9) a. With gentleness and justice like Christ.

Christ centers our family life on Him as He fill us with His Spirit. Therefore, 1. Children, obey your parents in the Lord in light of God's promise. (vv. 1-3) 2. Dads (and moms), raise your children in the Lord's Word of Law and Gospel. (v. 4)

God in Christ ordains marriage not only for the good of humanity and the church – but especially to reveal a Gospel mystery. 1. Christian marriage is appointed for covenant companionship: a. Even as wives freely submit to their husbands. (vv. 22-24) b. Even as husbands self-sacrificially love their wives. (vv. 25-28) 2. Christian marriage is a one-flesh union – to reflect the mystery of Christ's union with His Bride, the church. (vv. 29-33)

Christ has delivered us from the darkness so walk carefully in these evil days: 1. Walk with wisdom in line with the end-times. (vv. 15-16) 2. Walk with understanding in line with God's Word. (v. 17) 3. Walk with a Spirit-filled life – in line with: (v. 18) a. Mutually edifying worship. (v. 19a) b. Heart-felt praise to Christ. (v. 19b) c. Continual thanksgiving to God. (v. 20) d. Self-deferential submission. (v. 21)

Christ has made us His saints and children of light in this dark world. So: 1. Live no longer as do the sons of disobedience. (vv. 3-7) 2. Live as light in the Lord by the Spirit. (vv. 8-12) 3. Live to shine the life-giving light of the Gospel on those in darkness. (vv. 13-14)

As those beloved of God in Christ, we must walk in love, putting off sin and putting on Christ. 1. Put off lying, anger, and stealing; and put on truth, quick repentance, and generosity. (vv 25-28) 2. Put off Spirit-grieving speech; and put on edifying speech. (vv 29-30) 3. Be done with all that is ugly and malicious; and walk in light of Gospel grace. (4:30-5:2)

As you've learned the truth that is in Jesus, you must leave the old life because you are a new man. 1. You must no longer walk as pagans do. (vv 17-19) 2. Because you have learned this threefold truth in Jesus: (vv 20-24) a. You have put off the old man. (vv 20-22) b. You are being renewed in mind by God. (v 23) c. You have put on the new man. (v 24)

Christ gives Gospel-Word-gifts to His church: 1. To perfect us, minister to us, and edify us. (vv. 11-12) 2. For our unity in the faith and our maturity in Christ. (vv. 13-14) 3. For our growth together in love. (vv. 15-16)

The ascended Christ gives gifts to His church for our edification: 1. Because He is victorious over His enemies. (vv. 7-8) 2. Because He is the incarnate and now glorified Lord. (vv. 9-10) 3. Because He is the Word we need to hear. (v. 11)

Christ has made us one by the Gospel – and exhorts us to walk worthy of this calling by pursuing the unity of the Spirit. Introduction 1. The manner and means of our unity. (vv. 1-3) 2. The marvel and motivation of our unity. (vv. 4-6) Conclusion

In answer to prayer, God will sanctify us in the love of Christ and He will fill us with His fullness. Therefore, we praise Him: 1. For His almighty power – at work in us. (v. 20) 2. For His glory – in the church and by Christ Jesus. (v. 21a) 3. For all generations – forever and ever. (v. 21b)

Jesus' grace motivates those who know Him to bring others to Him: 1. A faithful witness repeatedly points to Jesus as the Lamb of God. (vv 35-37) 2. A faithful witness is one who abides with and learns from Jesus. (vv 38-39) 3. A faithful witness brings others to learn from Christ, and to be changed by Him (vv 40-42)

Christ gives us boldness and confident access to God our Father in prayer. And so: 1) We bow before God as the Father of His family - in heaven and on earth (vv 14-15). 2) We ask Him to strengthen us by his Spirit that Christ may dwell in us (vv 16-17a). 3) We pray that He would enable us to grasp Christ's immeasurable love to fill us with His fullness (vv 17b-19)

The Gospel is the proclamation of the mystery of Christ, namely: 1) The unsearchable riches of Christ (vv 8-9). 2) The manifold wisdom and eternal purpose of God in Christ (vv 10-11). 3) The boldness of access we have to God by faith in Christ (vv 12-13).

Christ is the revelation of God's mystery concerning the all-nations Gospel. God has now graciously revealed this Gospel to Paul and to us (vv. 1-5); God has revealed this Gospel, specifically that the Gentiles are members of the same body and that we Gentiles are partakers of the same promise (v. 6); God has now graciously revealed this Gospel by His grace and power (v. 7).

Jesus is conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin - to save sinners only: 1) Joseph grieves and resolves. (vv 18-19) 2) The angel intervenes and reveals. (vv. 20-21) 3) The Scripture promises and fulfills. (vv. 22-23) 4) Joseph believes and obeys. (vv. 24-25)

Christ has brought us near to God's people by: 1) Making us citizens of God's city (v. 19a), 2) Making us members of God's family (v. 19b), Making us the materials of God's temple: a) God's revelation is the foundation (v. 20a), b) Christ Himself is the cornerstone (v. 20b), and c) God Himself dwells there by the Spirit (vv. 21-22).

Christ is our peace. He made peace by: - Uniting redeemed Jews and Gentiles (v. 14) - Abolishing the law of Moses (v. 15a) - Making us one new man (v. 15b) -Reconciling us both to God through the cross (v/ 16) - Preaching the Gospel of peace to us (v. 17) - Enabling us to worship the triune God (v.18)

Outside of Christ, we are far off; in Christ we are brought near. We were once far off from God, Christ, and His people (vv11-12), BUT NOW Christ has brought us near to God and His people (v.13).

Salvation is the work of God in Christ, not the work of man! 1) It is all God's gift of grace to us in Christ (v.8), 2) It is nothing of our doing - so no boasting! (v.9), and 3) It is His new creation work which puts us on the path of good works (v.10).

Because of God's rich mercy, great love, abounding grace, and tender kindness - He has saved us by: Making us alive with Christ (vv. 4-5), raising us up together with Christ (v. 6a), and seating us together with Christ (vv. 6b-7).

Apart from Christ, we are dead in our sins, dominated by Satan and our sinfulness, and doomed to face God's wrath. Thus, our desperate need for God's grace to us in Christ! We were: dead in our sins (v. 1), dominated bt Satan and our sinfulness (vv. 2-3a), doomed to face God's wrath (v.3b), BUT GOD! (v.4a)

God the Father answers our prayer to know the immeasurable greatness of His power toward us in Christ (v. 19). This same power: raised Christ from the dead (v. 20a), seated Christ at God's right hand in Heaven (vv. 20b-21), subjected all things under Christ's feet (v. 22a) and made Christ head over the church (vv. 22b-23).

Since we are blessed in Christ with every spiritual blessing, we give thanks to God and pray for one another, that He would reveal to us more fully: the hope to which He has called us in Christ (vv. 15-18), the riches of His glorious inheritance for us in Christ (v. 18) and the immeasurable greatness of His power toward us win Christ (v. 19).

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ for his sovereign plan to secure an inheritance for His people in Christ (vv. 11-12) and for His sealing Spirit to guarantee our inheritance in Christ (vv. 13-14).

Praise God for Election and Adoption in Christ

God the Father and Christ the Lord convey grace and peace to His people by His Spirit.

Christ reigns even when the wicked seem to be winning.

When life doesn't make sense, we are honest with God in prayer, patient in trials, and live by faith.

John the Baptizer sets the stage for Jesus the Messiah.

Christ remembers the afflicted with mercy and reminds the wicked of His justice.

To know God's name revealed in Christ is to trust in Him.

Our lost glory and dominion are restored in Christ!

The Lord is our hope for both forensic justice and forensic justification.

Jesus, David's Greater Son, asks for God's deliverance from false accusations, according to His personal righteousness - and we do so according to His imputed righteousness.

The Messiah has mercy on the miserable - on sinners and sufferers - who flee to Him in prayer.
