Chronically, Jess.
by Jessica Viscariello
My name is Jessica. Jess for short. I'm a 45-year-old writer, traveler, educator, Lit fan, advocate crisis volunteer, sister, daughter, true crime lover, friend, cat mom....and I'm sick. When I set out to create a podcast, I knew I wanted to talk about life with chronic illness, but I had NO idea which direction I wanted it to take. I still don't. I create outlines of scenarios and stories and conversations in my head as a base, and instead, I take twists and turns and back roads and rabbit holes in every which way to get to the point of my story. But that's life, isn't it?

Quick note!
Happy fall, yall! It's Halloween month. If you know me, you know I'm dark, spooky, and sorta sparkly all at once. Anyhoot, I'm working in a two part special and need your help!
-
Brain Fog.
This episode really needs no description, but it does have 3 trigger warnings: 1. I cuss twice. 2. Discussion of mental/emotional struggles. 3. I ramble in the last segment. Evidentiary support, you know.
-
The Spoon Theory.
The Spoon Theory is a popular analogy in the chronic illness community. I'll explain it here...please excuse my sinusy voice.
-
The Medical Community.
"You're just one of those women." "We can't find anything wrong." "Have you considered seeing a shrink?" "IT'S ALL IN YOUR HEAD." People... I cleaned up this episode a TON before its publication because I still need medical care and can't keep getting fired as a patient. But this week, you're…

Friendships.
This week, you'll meet 3 of the women in my life...you'll also hear sirens in the background of one of the segments. Because Jacksonville.

Health journey, part deux.
When we last saw Chronically Jess, she was sitting in a hospital bed in Gainesville, Florida...arguing with nurses, being thrown into menopause, and hallucinating Snuffleupagus in her room.
-
Monday tease.
Tomorrow I'll share part two of my health journey. We pick up in September 2015, when I had a total abdominal hysterectomy. From there, it's all been downhill, especially the last several months. But someone turned me on to yet another theory, and if you know me at all, you know I love rabbit...

Voice message feature!
Leave a message at the tone! Kidding. This feature is designed to collect messages from listeners to played in future episodes either via playback, or read by me. Side note, that little motor you hear is Lucy, an accidental but entertaining new addition to the family.

Health journey, part 1.
I recorded this episode in one take, and as I mention several times (I tend to repeat myself, SORRY!), I think it's crucial to do this podcast like I do life. Raw. Unscripted. Imperfect. This episode features a trigger warning for medical terms and assault so please take that to mind before...

Prelude.
I'm a tease. I admit it. Part one of my health journey was scheduled for tonight buuuut (no pun intended, and here's why) I'm having a little procedure first thing tomorrow. So tonight is a little bit of prep work and whole lot of...well...you know. Pop back tomorrow evening to hear how it...

Welcome.
Hello listeners, and welcome to Chronically, Jess. In this pilot episode, we'll keep it short and sweet. It's hard for me to do that since I'm a talker when I story-weave, but we'll save the meat for next time..
