Serpico: Honest clam? Or self-righteous Rock?

We return to the sleazy streets of New York City, where bohemian cop Frank Serpico runs into the conservative institution that is the NYPD. There he learns he can not in fact speak a little Spanish to 'em and we learn a lot about how cool Serpico is. In this episode expect lots of bellyaching about biopics as Chris tries to stop Jacob from declaring all documentaries Haram.

The Deadly Affair: Shucking to find the communist Clam

It is the Cold War, you are a British spy, your wife is sleeping with a bunch of randy musclemen and all you really want to do is go back to sharing a bunk with your old military "friend." Oh dear. In this one expect lots of rants from Jacob about how it goes straight to the top (or bottom?) as Christopher desperately tries to get him to talk more about the movie and less about the CIA. Up Next: Serpico (1973)

Night Falls on Manhattan: Die a Clam or live long enough to be a Rock

Our journey starts in earnest with 1996's Night Falls on Manhattan, a film we are sure is very near and dear to everyone's hearts. Here we start learning about Lumet's particular image of New York City; populated by scheming politicians, cantankerous Ashkenazis, and epic libs.Major points of discussion include: the inevitability of corruption, the state of exception, and whether or not this movie is a clam or a rock. Next up: The Deadly Affair (1967)

A Thesis Statement: Sidney Lumet and Auteur Theory (and clams)

Welcome to Clams Kino! In this episode we, Jacob and Chris, introduce our exhaustive survey into the films of Sidney Lumet. We hope to find that because of Sidney Lumet's ambiguous status as an auteur we will illuminate something about our collective relationship between art and the artist. After this introduction, we share our Golden Rules of discussion that we will attempt to have fidelity to when talking about Lumet's movies. Chris talks a bit too much about Eddington and Jacob talks a bit too much about Westerns.Letters from Siberia, Chris Marker: https://youtu.be/tN1XWKULjfQ?si=dtaKKd-B1-dsw-xT
