Our chief works hand in hand with the director of a local outreach service, but once went hand to hand with him in the streets of Athens, Georgia. As one of the first agencies to establish a Behavioral Health Unit, our officers discuss the challenges and rewards of working with individuals facing mental health challenges. After a fatality accident or the death of a child, our officers can ask for help from Chaplains, as well as Peer Support Counselors. Jay Ragsdale retired as a Lieutenant from the ACCPD and now leads these programs.
