Ambition, Presence in Motherhood & the Tension of Holding Both
This one's a little different. My youngest has about 20 months left at home before he starts school. And this week, with my business growing and opportunities coming in, the push and pull of wanting to be present and wanting to build has been loud. Really loud. So instead of a teaching episode, this is just me being honest about what it actually feels like to hold both. The grief of a season ending. The weight of a hard week. The opportunities that make the tension harder. And why I still believe you don't have to choose between motherhood and ambition, even when it feels like you do. In this episode I cover: The grief that comes with watching your last baby grow up and a season start to slip away What a hard week taught me about presence, depletion and showing up for both work and motherhood How I'm navigating real business opportunities while protecting this time with my son Why the tension doesn't mean you're doing it wrong The season-based approach I use to make decisions that actually feel aligned What holding both motherhood and ambition practically looks like in my life right now This episode won't give you a framework or a neat resolution. But if you're sitting in this tension too, I hope it makes you feel a little less alone in it. Gratitude, Ambition & Wanting More Without the Guilt
You're grateful. You really are. And yet there's this quiet, persistent wanting sitting underneath it all. More income. More space. More identity outside of being mum. More from your business. And then comes the guilt. This episode is for every mum in business who has ever looked at her life and thought "I should just be satisfied" while simultaneously knowing she wants more. Because those two things? They can coexist. And the guilt you're feeling about that wanting is not the truth. It's conditioning. In this episode I cover: Why wanting more doesn't make you ungrateful and where that guilt actually comes from The difference between gratitude and ambition and why they're not opposites How to recognise when you're outgrowing a season of your life or business The specific ways guilt shows up and keeps you stuck (pricing, offers, support, scaling) How to tell the difference between ego-driven wanting and alignment-driven wanting How I navigate this tension in real life and what I ask myself when the guilt creeps in The core reframe: Real gratitude doesn't require you to stay small. It doesn't ask you to undercharge, overwork, or cap your potential. Real gratitude says, I'm proud of what I've built and I'm ready to build more. Wanting more is not a character flaw. It's information. And when it's coming from alignment rather than comparison, it's your inner knowing calling you forward. Naptime Chats: Motherhood, Neurodivergence & Building a Business That Actually Fits with Sarah Middleton
In this Naptime Chat, I’m sitting down with Sarah Middleton, founder of Brilliant Little Gems. Sarah is an AuDHD social worker, educator and somatic coach, and this conversation goes into what it really looks like to navigate motherhood, business, and understanding your brain… all at the same time. We talk about how Sarah’s business came from her own lived experience as a mum of neurodivergent children, and how that has shaped the way she works, supports others, and designs her entire life and business. This is one of those conversations that feels really honest and grounding, especially if you’ve ever felt like the way you’re trying to run your business just doesn’t quite fit. In this episode, we chat about: Building a business around your children’s needs instead of forcing them to fit your work What it actually looks like to work within your capacity as a mum Late diagnosis and the experience of understanding your neurodivergence as an adult Masking, coping, and why so many women are only just starting to connect the dots Navigating things like school challenges, burnout and emotional load as a parent The role your nervous system plays in both business and motherhood Letting go of guilt and creating a way of working that actually supports you Links + Resources→ Connect with Sarah on Instagram: @‌sarahmiddleton.blg or LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/sarah-rose-middleton-5b336888/ or on Facebook: facebook.com/sarah.middleton.blg→ Check out her website: www.brilliantlittlegems.com.au You can access 1:1 support with Sarah via zoom within her Shift Happens package - 3 months of support to deepen your understanding of your own brain, your needs and to create meaningful, sustainable change in your life. Conversions, Clarity & Why People Aren’t Buying
If your offers are good, your content is consistent, and you’re still not seeing the sales you expected… this might be why. It’s not that people don’t want what you’re selling. It’s that they don’t fully understand it. And when someone has to think too hard to figure out what you do, they don’t buy. They scroll. In this episode, I’m breaking down why clarity converts better than trying to be clever, what confusion is actually costing you in your business, and how to simplify your messaging so people instantly get it. What I cover in this episode: Why we overcomplicate our messaging (even when we’re trying to do the right thing) What confusing messaging is actually costing you in sales, referrals and energy What’s happening in your client’s brain when your messaging isn’t clear The three things your messaging needs to communicate immediately Where most people overcomplicate their content, offers and bios The fears that keep you hiding behind “clever” wording How to simplify your messaging without losing depth or credibility A simple clarity audit you can use straight away If this episode made you realise your messaging might be overcomplicated, send me a DM on Instagram @‌balancedbizmama and tell me what you’re simplifying. Naptime Chats: Burnout, Boundaries & Preventing Overwhelm with Sophie Anderson
In this Naptime Chat, I’m joined by burnout prevention coach Sophie Anderson, and this is one of those conversations that so many mums in business need to hear. Sophie shares her journey from working full-time in academia to building her own coaching business, all while navigating motherhood and the reality of doing it without a strong support system. What I loved about this conversation is how honest it is. Because burnout doesn’t just happen “out there” in corporate jobs, it can happen in our businesses too. Especially when we’re juggling everything, putting pressure on ourselves, and trying to make it all work. Inside this episode, we talk about: how burnout actually develops (and why it doesn’t come out of nowhere) the early warning signs most mums notice but push past anyway the invisible pressure we put on ourselves (and how it adds to the load) why boundaries feel hard — and where to start if they do simple ways to reduce stress before it builds into something bigger the difference between demands vs resources (and why that matters) how to create support when you feel like you’re doing it all alone “stick to the plan, not the mood” — and how to actually apply that in real life This conversation is practical, honest, and grounded in real-life experience. If you’ve been feeling stretched, reactive, overwhelmed, or like you’re constantly trying to keep up… this episode will help you take a step back and look at what actually needs to shift. Stop Waiting, Start Small & Build in the Season You’re In
Today I'm sharing my thoughts on waiting for the "right time" to build your business, because I believe there is no perfect season. Not for starting your business. Not for launching that thing. Not for finally going after what you want. Because there isn’t a version of life where everything aligns and you suddenly have unlimited time, energy and support. That season simply doesn’t exist. I’ve built my business in the in-between moments — around kids, around work, around seasons that were messy, chaotic and far from ideal. And right now? I’m in a season of growth and expansion… while also having less time than ever. So this episode is about what happens when you stop waiting — and start building with what you actually have. Inside this episode, I’m talking about: the “perfect seasons” we convince ourselves we need before we start why life doesn’t calm down… it just changes shape what waiting is actually costing you (time, money, confidence and more) how every season comes with both constraints and advantages why your business is allowed to evolve alongside your life simple reframes to shift you out of “I can’t right now” thinking what it actually looks like to build in hard or high-capacity seasons how to stop waiting for perfect and start building something now This isn’t about ignoring your reality or pretending things are easy. It’s about being honest about your capacity — and still choosing to move forward in a way that works for your life right now. Because this season — the one you’re in — is the only one you actually have. And it’s enough. Naptime Chats: Motherhood, Human Design & Not Losing Yourself with Tash Leam
In this Naptime Chat episode, I sit down with Tash Leam — author, podcaster, speaker and certified Human Design reader — for a conversation about identity, motherhood, side-hustle seasons, and what it means to stay connected to yourself while raising children. Tash shares how her journey began in the personal development world, what led her to write her first two books, and why becoming a mum made her even more determined not to lose her sense of self. From there, the conversation explores how motherhood can magnify the mental load, reshape time and capacity, and force women to rethink how they work, rest and relate to themselves. Tash also unpacks Human Design in a refreshingly practical way, not as something rigid or overwhelming, but as a framework for understanding energy, self-trust and how to work in ways that feel more sustainable. Inside this episode, we talk about: why so many women feel themselves disappear into motherhood the grief and adjustment that can come with becoming a mum while still wanting more for yourself balancing a 9–5, a business, and parenting without falling into hustle culture using Human Design as a grounded tool for self-awareness and course correction how to work with your energy instead of constantly forcing yourself why self-trust matters more than any business strategy eldest daughter energy, over-responsibility, people-pleasing and boundary work what to do when you feel the pull to start a business but life doesn’t look “perfect” yet This episode is especially powerful for mums who are trying to hold onto themselves while navigating motherhood, or for women building a business in the margins of real life rather than in big, uninterrupted blocks of time. Community, Referrals & The Power of Women Supporting Women
In this International Women’s Day episode, I’m talking about something that has had a profound impact on my business over the past few years: community. The 2026 International Women’s Day theme is “Give to Gain,” and honestly, I can’t think of a better way to describe how genuine support between women in business actually works. Because the biggest opportunities in my business haven’t come from algorithms, ads, or clever marketing strategies, they’ve come from women. Women who refer me.Women who speak my name in rooms where it matters.Women who champion my work when I’m not there to see it. In this episode, I unpack why community isn’t just a feel-good concept, instead it’s a powerful business strategy that creates long-term sustainability and growth. I talk about: Why community creates longevity in business How referrals and reputation grow when women support each other The difference between genuine support and performative support What it actually looks like to champion another woman’s work Why generosity builds stronger business networks than transactional networking How mums in business can build meaningful community even with limited time and capacity I also share practical ways you can start building this kind of community yourself, through referrals, introductions, amplification, testimonials and genuine celebration of other women’s success. Because when women support women, we don’t lose, we multiply. And when we build businesses within communities that champion each other, we create something far more powerful than individual success — we create longevity. Boundaries, the Client Experience & the Guilt Mums Feel
Today I’m reframing boundaries — not as self-care, not as something you implement once you’re already burnt out, but as a core business skill. Because boundaries don’t just protect your time. They shape your client experience. They influence your revenue. And they determine whether your business is sustainable. I talk about why so many of us treat boundaries like a “nice-to-have” instead of recognising them as business infrastructure — and how that quietly costs us. Inside this episode, I unpack: Why boundaries aren’t just about protecting your peace — they’re about protecting your profit How poor boundaries create codependency instead of professionalism The real revenue cost of scope creep and overdelivering Why strong boundaries actually create a better client experience The essential boundaries every mum in business needs (availability, scope, communication, revisions, payment and timelines) How to state boundaries clearly and confidently — without apologising And then we go deeper. Because underneath most weak boundaries isn’t incompetence. It’s guilt. The guilt mums feel for not being constantly available. The guilt for not working like we did before kids. The guilt for protecting school pick-up time. The guilt for charging properly. The guilt for saying no. This episode is about separating guilt from strategy — and recognising that protecting your capacity is not selfish. It’s responsible leadership. Boundaries don’t make you difficult. They make your business sustainable. Capacity, Capability & The Myth of “I Used To”
Today I’m unpacking something I wish someone had told me years ago: Capacity doesn’t equal capability. Just because I’m capable of doing something doesn’t mean I have the capacity to do it right now. And just because my capacity is reduced in this season doesn’t mean I’ve somehow become less capable. After my toddler dropped his nap, I found myself thinking, “I used to be able to do so much more.” And that’s when it clicked. My skills haven’t disappeared. My knowledge hasn’t evaporated. What’s changed is my available time, energy and mental bandwidth. In this episode, I talk about: The difference between capability (your skill and competence) and capacity (your available bandwidth) Why capacity naturally shifts in motherhood and different life seasons The danger of the “but I used to…” comparison trap Why reduced output does not mean reduced competence How to build your business around your real capacity instead of fighting it The freedom that comes from accepting your season instead of resisting it This conversation is especially for the mum who feels like she’s not doing as much as she once did… and is quietly questioning herself because of it. You are not less skilled. You are not less competent. You are not behind. You are working within a different set of constraints. And the fact that you’re still building, serving and showing up? That’s proof of your capability, not evidence against it. Motherhood, Business & Outgrowing Who You Used to Be
In this episode, I’m talking about the identity shift that happens when you become a mum in business, yep, the one no one really prepares you for. The moment when you look back at who you used to be and realise she doesn’t quite exist anymore. When pride and grief sit side by side. When your body feels unsettled, not because anything is wrong, but because something big is changing. I unpack what we actually lose when we step into motherhood and business, not just time or freedom, but whole versions of ourselves. The careers we left. The safety of being a beginner. The simplicity of being one thing instead of many. We talk about why this kind of grief doesn’t always look like sadness, but shows up as restlessness, tightness, overwhelm, or nervous system shutdown. And why identity shifts aren’t just emotional reactions, instead they’re physical, embodied experiences. I also explore the internal conflict so many mums carry: The devoted mother The ambitious business owner The woman you were before kids The woman you’re becoming And why the goal isn’t to choose between them, rather it’s integration. This episode dives into how operating against your natural way of working can deepen that sense of disorientation, and how part of becoming who you’re meant to be is relearning your own rhythm, decision-making style, and energy. We finish with what integration actually looks like in real life: not balance, not perfection, but allowing all parts of you to coexist without apology. If you’ve ever felt like you don’t fully recognise yourself anymore, this conversation is for you. Back to School, Transitions & Finding Your Rhythm Again
Transitions don’t just happen at big milestones. They happen quietly, subtly, and often more often than we expect. In this episode, I’m reflecting on transitions — in motherhood, in business, and in life — and why even positive or expected changes can feel destabilising. Yes, this conversation is timed around the return to school, but the heart of this episode is much bigger than that. It’s about what happens any time life shifts, routines change, or the season you were in no longer fits the one you’re stepping into. In this episode, I explore: Why transitions — even welcome ones — can feel emotionally and energetically unsettling How changes in routine affect our focus, capacity, and sense of rhythm as mums in business The pressure to “move on quickly” or be productive as soon as a transition happens Why finding your rhythm again isn’t instant — and isn’t meant to be How to gently reorient your business and workdays after any season of change This episode is for you if you’re navigating a shift, whether that’s back to school, a new business phase, changing family needs, or simply realising that the way you were working before no longer feels right. It’s a reminder that transitions deserve space. That rhythm returns through awareness, not force. And that you’re allowed to meet each new season with intention, not urgency. Visibility, Confidence & Building a Personal Brand without Burnout
In this episode I’m getting real about visibility, and why it’s often the thing mums in business want to avoid the most. And there’s a reason for that. Visibility without boundaries often leads to burnout. Visibility without a sustainable foundation leads to overwhelm. And visibility before you feel grounded can quickly turn into performing instead of showing up. In this episode, I break down what visibility actually means (and what it doesn’t), especially for mums who are navigating confidence, judgment, and the fear of being seen — not just as business owners, but as working mothers. I talk about: Why visibility feels so exposing, especially for mums in business The difference between authentic visibility and exhausting online performance Why you don’t need to be everywhere or share everything to be “visible” The three non-negotiables for sustainable visibility: authenticity, consistency, and boundaries How to navigate fear of judgment without shrinking yourself How to build a visibility plan that actually fits your capacity and real life This episode isn’t about posting more or doing what everyone else is doing. It’s about showing up in a way that feels aligned, grounded, and sustainable, so the right people can actually find you. If visibility has been something you know you should think about, but secretly dread, this episode is for you. Capacity, Real Life & the Realities of Building a Sustainable Business
In this episode of Coffee, Clients & Naptime, I’m talking about what it really means to design a sustainable business, not one that looks good on paper or online, but one that actually fits your real life. Last week, I shared why I’m not rushing into January and why pacing yourself matters. This episode is the next step. Once you’ve created some breathing room, this is where strategy comes in, but not copy-and-paste strategy. Life-first strategy. Too many mums in business are trying to fit their life around their business. I see it all the time. And honestly, it’s backwards. In this episode, I flip that approach and walk you through how to design your business around the life you already have, considering your kids, your energy, your capacity, and the season you’re in. I cover: What “sustainable” actually means when you’re a mum in business Why copying someone else’s business model often leads to burnout How to do an honest audit of your real capacity (not aspirational capacity) The four questions that change how you design your business When and how to redesign a business that no longer fits your life A simple sustainability test to check if your current pace is actually workable This episode is for you if you want to grow your business in 2026 but not at the expense of your health, your family, or your energy. Sustainability isn’t about doing less for the sake of it. It’s about building something you can maintain through the messy, beautiful reality of real life. Your business should fit your life, not the other way around. And this episode will help you start designing it that way. Ambition, Avoiding Burnout & Why I am not rushing into January
January often comes with a lot of noise.Pressure to start strong.Pressure to move fast.Pressure to have it all figured out. In this episode, I’m sharing why I’m intentionally not rushing January, and what a slower, more grounded start to the year looks like for me as a mum in business. This conversation isn’t about doing less for the sake of it. It’s about understanding your capacity, honouring your nervous system after a big year, and choosing a pace that actually supports long-term growth, not just January motivation. I talk honestly about the guilt that can come up when you don’t want to “hit the ground running,” the difference between momentum and urgency, and how I’m designing my business rhythm as we move into a new year. If you’re feeling the weight of expectations already, or questioning whether you’re doing January “right,” this episode is a reminder that you get to choose your own way in. In this episode, I cover: Why rushing January often leads to burnout later in the year The impact of nervous system regulation on decision-making and momentum How I’m personally approaching the start of the year differently The difference between ambition and urgency Why slow doesn’t mean stagnant How to design a January that supports your real life, not just your goals There’s no single right way to begin the year, only the way that works for you, your family, and the season you’re in. The 2025 Awakening, A Year of Becoming & What Comes Next in 2026
2025 wasn’t just another year for mums in business. It was a year of noticing.Of questioning.Of unlearning what no longer fit and slowly becoming something new. In this final episode for 2025 I’m reflecting on what's being called the Great Awakening of 2025, a collective shift I’ve seen in myself, in the mums I work with, and across the wider business space. This episode isn’t about predictions or trends. It’s about awareness. I talk about: Why so many mums in business felt restless, stretched, or quietly dissatisfied this year The emotional and identity shifts that happen before outer change Why clarity often comes after discomfort, not before And how to approach 2026 with intention instead of pressure If you’ve felt like something has been shifting beneath the surface this year — in your work, your values, or the way you want your business to support your life — this episode is your invitation to pause, reflect, and gently look ahead. Not to rush. Not to force a plan. But to trust what’s already unfolding. ✨ What comes next in 2026 doesn’t require a full reinvention, it simply requires awareness, honesty, and permission to evolve. Naptime Chats: Marketing in 2026, The Three Cs & the Professional Identity Crisis with Tania Fielding
This week I’m joined by the brilliant Tania Fielding from Little Luxe Marketing, a mum of two, ex-corporate marketing director, and now a passionate advocate for women using their skills, experience, and stories to build businesses that feel aligned. Tania’s journey into entrepreneurship started like so many of ours do, with that moment of sitting on maternity leave wondering: What do I even do now? Who am I outside of the job I used to have? She talks openly about that professional identity crisis, the imposter syndrome that hits after years away from the workforce, and the tiny courageous moment that changed everything for her. In this conversation we go deep into: What it actually feels like to rebuild your career after kids The confusion, the overwhelm, the “should I even send this email?” moments and how she slowly rebuilt her confidence through small steps. Using your corporate skills in a new way, without starting from scratch Tania shares how everything she thought she left behind in corporate actually became the foundation for her new business. Why work/life balance isn’t 50/50 and what she aims for instead We talk non-negotiables, structuring work around family rhythms, calendar boundaries, and why balance is really about seasons, not percentages. The imposter syndrome spiral and her advice for getting out of it Including her beautiful “confidence → clarity → conquering” framework. The reality of starting from home with little ones underfoot The overwhelm, the comparison, the urge to do everything and why starting small is the real secret. What she sees coming for marketing in 2026 Community, human-first connection, and why personal brand isn’t a scary word. Her one piece of advice for every mum starting out (Be kind to yourself, it’s powerful.) This conversation is grounding, encouraging, and such a beautiful reminder that you don’t need a clean slate to start a business - you already have a wealth of experience that transfers directly into your next chapter. Naptime Chats: Neurofeedback, Emotional Resilience & Your Nervous System with Carlie Byrom
In today’s Naptime Chat, I’m sitting down with Carlie Byrom — mum of three, bookkeeper, and founder of Life Brain Training — to talk about something so many of us feel but rarely get practical support for: our nervous system. Before kids, Carlie worked long days in television. When motherhood came along, she knew 12+ hour days on set weren’t compatible with the kind of parent she wanted to be, so she retrained as a bookkeeper to create more flexibility. But it was her experience parenting a highly sensitive daughter — navigating long, intense meltdowns, feeling helpless, and trying everything — that eventually led her to discover NeurOptimal neurofeedback. What started as something to help her own mental health and her daughter’s emotional regulation has now become a business that supports families Australia-wide. In this episode, we chat about: Carlie’s journey from TV to bookkeeping to running a neurofeedback business around her three kids What NeurOptimal neurofeedback actually is, in real-world language (no science degree required) How brain training supports emotional resilience, regulation and capacity for both mums and kids The reality of parenting a child with big emotions, and what changed when her daughter could finally self-regulate How caring for our nervous system changes the way we show up in business — decision making, stress, and those “too much on my plate” days Simple, real-life ways to build tiny moments of presence into busy days (yes, even if you’re juggling multiple businesses and activities) Why looking after yourself isn’t “optional” if you want a sustainable business and a connected family life Carlie’s gentle advice for mums starting out in business: trust the process and loosen your grip on the outcome If you’ve been feeling overloaded, reactive, or like your capacity never quite matches the size of your to-do list, this conversation will give you both language and hope — plus a really interesting peek into a tool you may never have heard of. Expectations, Workload & Preparing Your Biz for the Holiday Season
The end of the year comes with equal parts excitement, chaos, pressure… and a whole lot of “shoulds” from the online business world. You should unplug completely. You should rest. You should hustle. You should launch. But the truth?Your holiday season is yours to design. In this episode, I’m breaking down the real-life reality of navigating the holiday season as a mum in business - not the Pinterest version, not the online-coach version, but the messy, practical, deeply human version. I look at: ✨ The guilt piece — why so many mums feel shame about working (or not working) through December, and what to do with those feelings.✨ Childcare realities — including why using the care you’re already paying for is not something to feel guilty about.✨ Client expectations — how to set boundaries now so you’re not hit with a “quick favour” email on December 23rd.✨ Different holiday models — from full shutdowns to reduced hours to “business as usual”… and how to choose what actually works for your family.✨ The two-priority rule — why trying to do everything in December guarantees burnout (and what to do instead).✨ The family side — because being physically present while mentally drowning in your inbox is not the vibe we’re aiming for.✨ How to set yourself up for a smooth, sane start to January. This episode is your permission slip to build your holiday season around your actual life, not someone else’s version of “balance.” Because there is no “right way” to do the holidays, there’s only the way that works for you. Naptime Chats: Cycles, Seasons & Finding Flow in Motherhood with Eden Sallenbach
What if your energy dips, motivation crashes, or creative dry spells weren’t signs of failure… but simply your body asking for rest? In this week’s Naptime Chat, I’m joined by Eden Sallenbach, a fertility awareness educator, yoga and Pilates teacher, and former nurse who helps women understand their cycles and live in alignment with their natural rhythms — in business, motherhood, and life. We talk about the reality of hormones, burnout, and the constant push to “do it all.” Eden shares how understanding your body’s cyclical nature can help you plan your energy, your work, and your family life in a way that feels more balanced — and less like a daily uphill battle. Inside this episode:✨ How our cycles and hormones impact our energy, emotions, and productivity✨ Why “superwoman mode” leads to burnout (and what to do instead)✨ The difference between living cyclically vs. living in survival mode✨ How to use your natural ebbs and flows to plan your work, launches, and rest✨ The connection between clarity, calm, and hormonal balance for mums in business✨ Why giving yourself permission to pause can actually move you forward faster This is such a supportive conversation for any mum who’s been running on empty, wondering why the “go harder” advice just doesn’t work for her. Scarcity, Comparison & Choosing Abundance as a Mum in Business
In today’s episode, I’m talking about something I’ve witnessed far too many times — the scarcity mindset that shows up in mum-led business communities, and the competition-over-collaboration culture that quietly holds us all back. From my very first baby business 15 years ago to the work I do now, I’ve seen how fear and insecurity can make women turn on each other — even when we’re the very ones who should be lifting each other up. I’ve been on the receiving end of that behaviour. I’ve also made the conscious decision to rise above it, and to build businesses that centre connection and abundance instead. In this episode, I share:✨ Real stories from my own journey — the times I was attacked, excluded, or treated as competition✨ How scarcity mindset shows up in mum communities (and how to spot it in yourself)✨ The real cost of operating from fear — to your peace, growth, reputation, and energy✨ What an abundance mindset actually looks like in practice✨ And how we can start changing the culture for mums in business Because the world already underestimates mums in business, we don’t need to make it harder for each other. Every time we choose collaboration over competition, we make space for more opportunity — for ourselves and the next mum coming up behind us. If this hits close to home, know this: you don’t have to shrink to make others comfortable. You don’t have to hide your success or apologise for doing well. There’s enough room, enough clients, enough success for all of us. We rise higher when we rise together. Naptime Chats: Your Inner Critic, Self Belief & The Power of “And” with Jess Soto-Ramirez
If you’ve been trying to “think positive” your way through business while juggling motherhood - and it’s not working - this episode is your exhale. I’m joined by mindset and empowerment coach Jess Soto-Ramirez, and we go deep on doing the real inner work: noticing the negative chatter, naming your limiting beliefs, and building self-belief that actually holds on the messy days. Jess shares her story and how business can be a spotlight on every insecurity we haven’t faced yet. We talk about why generic affirmations fall flat, how to reframe identity as a mum in business, and the tiny word that changes everything: and. You can be a devoted mum and an ambitious founder. We cover: The difference between toxic positivity and grounded mindset work Spotting limiting beliefs: persistent thoughts, triggers, and “the backpack of beliefs” A practical tool to separate you from the inner critic (give her a name!) Jess’s “flip it and reverse it” method for reframing thoughts you’re stuck in Identity shifts after kids, and using and to hold multiple truths Defining your version of success so the outside noise gets quieter Things to try this week: Notice 1 persistent thought that keeps looping. Write it down. Ask: What’s this about? Where did it come from? Is it really mine? “Flip & reverse” it into a truer statement you can practice when the chatter starts. Working From Home, Mindset & Pricing Your Worth
If you’ve ever looked down at your trackies mid-Zoom and thought, “Who am I to charge that?” then this one’s for you. In today’s episode of Coffee, Clients & Naptime, I break down how to price confidently when your office is the kitchen table and your workday runs between nap times and school pick-ups. I talk about: Why your location (and outfit!) has nothing to do with your rates The real value equation: expertise + problems solved + results delivered The mindset traps that keep WFH mums undercharging (imposter syndrome, comparison, overhead guilt, worthiness) How working from home is actually a competitive advantage Practical pricing moves you can make this week, this month, and this quarter Key takeaways Your clients aren’t paying for your office—they’re paying for outcomes. Price based on value, not minutes. Package your services around results. Professionalism is how you communicate, contract, and deliver—not where you sit. Confidence sells. Know your numbers, collect proof, and practice your pricing conversations. Try this This week: Audit your current pricing. Are you discounting because you WFH? Gather 3–5 client results/testimonials that prove your value. This month: Reframe your messaging to outcomes. Test new rates on one offer. This quarter: Move toward value-based packages and tighten boundaries (availability, response times, timelines). If this episode nudged you, DM me the one pricing change you’re making next. And remember: your value is in the transformation you create—not the room you’re sitting in. You’ve got this. Naptime Chats: Work, Motherhood & the Future of Flexible Care with Lauren Perrett
In this episode of Coffee, Clients & Naptime, I sit down with Lauren Perrett, mum of two and the founder of BubbaDesk and Wombee — two purpose-led businesses redefining what work and connection look like for modern mothers. After facing postnatal anxiety and struggling with the idea of being separated from her baby when returning to work, Lauren decided to build the solution she needed — a coworking model with onsite childcare that allows parents to work while staying close to their little ones. That idea became BubbaDesk, a growing network of spaces across Australia helping mums (and dads) balance purpose and presence. Lauren also shares the story behind her new app, Wombee — a tech platform built to help mums find local, values-aligned mother’s groups and genuine community support offline. Together, we talk about:☕ The reality of starting a business during motherhood☕ How proximity-based childcare changes everything☕ The gaps in Australia’s care system and how they impact working mums☕ The importance of connection and community during early motherhood☕ Building purpose-driven businesses while still prioritising family This conversation is honest, empowering, and a must-listen for any mum who’s ever thought, “There has to be a better way.” Links + Resources→ Connect with Lauren on LinkedIn or visit BubbaDesk or Wombee→ Come say hi on Instagram: @‌balancedbizmama→ Join The Balanced Biz Mama Circle→ Subscribe to never miss an episode!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

90 Day Sprints, Mum Life & Finding Your Rhythm in Q4
Everyone’s talking about 90 day sprints right now but let’s be real, most of the advice out there was not written with mums in mind. In this episode of Coffee, Clients & Naptime, I’m unpacking:☕ What 90 day sprints actually are (beyond the buzzwords)☕ Why they’ve become so popular in the business world☕ The very real reasons they don’t always work for mums in business☕ How to adapt the framework so it works for your life and capacity I share my personal tweaks to make them work for mums, plus the common mistakes I see business mums make when trying to follow these frameworks. If you’re feeling the Q4 pressure but need a way to plan that actually fits nap times, school holidays, and the reality of your life - this one’s for you. Inside the episode: The psychology of why 90 day sprints work How to set sprint goals without burning out Why “flex weeks” are my secret weapon How to measure progress in small wins, not massive milestones Tune in now and let’s make Q4 feel doable, not draining. In today’s Naptime Chat, I sat down with Fiona Campbell - mama of three, and founder of Thought Penny and the VA Lead Network. Fiona shares how being made redundant while on maternity leave led her to launch her own VA business and how the ripple effect from that one bold move has now created over 400 job opportunities for women across Australia. We talked about the realities of working from home with kids, building a business around your actual life (not someone else’s ideal), and the power of creating systems that allow flexibility and freedom - without sacrificing quality or boundaries. This episode is packed with practical wisdom, whether you’re brand new to business or growing a team. Fiona shares her signature Streamline, Automate, Delegate approach, what she wishes more mums knew about superannuation, and why we need to stop charging like we’re still employees. Three Generations of Motherhood: The Modern Mum’s Balancing Act
We carry so much – kids, work/business, expectations, guilt – and sometimes, it feels like we’re dropping all of it. If you've ever looked back at your mum or grandma and thought, “They handled this better,” this episode is for you. In this powerful solo episode, I'm diving into the generational shifts in motherhood - why it feels so hard right now, what’s changed over time, and how mums in business today are juggling far more than most people see. Whether you’re running a business during nap time or squeezing client calls in between school pickups, this conversation will help you feel seen, understood, and less alone. Inside this episode:- A deep dive into how the motherhood experience has evolved across three generations - Why your grandma’s “clean house” isn’t proof you’re falling short - The financial realities driving modern mums back to work - What “intensive parenting” is and why we’re the first generation dealing with it - How social media contributes to motherhood stress - The truth about the mental load, the motherhood penalty, and trying to “have it all” - Why comparing ourselves to past generations is not only unfair - it’s unhelpful Episode Highlights:- A clear, compassionate breakdown of why modern-day motherhood feels harder… because it objectively is - Permission to stop comparing your life to your mum’s or your grandmother’s - A mindset shift around success: from ‘do it all, perfectly’ to ‘do what matters, sustainably’ - Powerful reframes around outsourcing, boundaries, and realistic expectations - Ideas for building the modern-day village we all need, especially as mums in business - A reminder that asking for help isn’t weakness - it’s strategy Loved this episode?Tag or DM @balancedbizmama and tell me: What expectation are you ready to let go of? Naptime Chats: Parenting, Emotional Regulation & Resilience with Jacintha Field
This episode is one of those heart-to-hearts I know so many of you are going to feel deep in your bones. I sat down with the incredible Jacintha Field - family and child counsellor, art therapist, founder of Happy Souls Kids, and fellow mum who's built her business from the messiness of real life. We spoke about the emotional load mums carry, how our kids mirror our own nervous systems, and the power of regulating ourselves before we try to help our little people regulate too. This isn’t fluffy advice - it’s honest, raw, and full of the kind of wisdom that only comes from lived experience. Inside this episode, we chat about: 🤍 Jacintha’s journey from events and PR to becoming a child counsellor and starting Happy Souls Kids🤍 Helping our children feel their emotions, before they explode🤍 The real (and often invisible) load mums carry while trying to build businesses🤍 Creating safe spaces for emotional regulation - yes, even with slime🤍 Why messy play and self-expression matter more than perfection🤍 Letting go of parenting guilt and choosing connection over control🤍 Why you have to come first (yes, even when it feels impossible) Jacintha’s story is a beautiful reminder that our healing matters. That when we give ourselves permission to show up imperfectly, we model emotional strength, resilience, and authenticity for our kids. And that the work we’re doing - whether in our businesses, homes, or hearts - really does matter. You’ll leave this one feeling seen, supported, and reminded that you don’t have to have it all together to be doing an incredible job. What happens when your client list gets shaken up overnight… without your permission? In this raw episode of Coffee, Clients & Naptime, I’m sharing what happened when two major client relationships ended in the same week - one unexpectedly, and one by choice - and how it sparked a powerful reflection on capacity, values, alignment, and trusting the chaos of change. This isn’t just about client loss, it’s about letting go of what no longer fits to make space for what’s next… even when you can’t quite see it yet. Whether you're navigating your own transitions, feeling pulled between your business and family life, or just wondering how to stay grounded when the rug gets pulled out from under you, this one’s for you. EOFY and the Cost of Living: What It's Really Costing Mums in Business
When the cost of living rises, time often becomes the first thing we spend… and for mums in business, that cost is personal. In this episode of Coffee, Clients & Naptime, I'm talking about the invisible weight that creeps in at the end of the financial year. You’re already doing so much, but somehow the pressure to do even more kicks in hard, especially when budgets are tight, expenses are rising, and your business feels like the only lever you can pull to make ends meet. But what’s the real cost of that extra client, that last-minute offer, that late-night hustle? It’s time to talk about what we’re spending, not just in dollars, but in energy, rest, and presence. Inside this episode: Why EOFY brings up guilt, urgency, and comparison for mums in business How rising costs are pushing women to sacrifice time, peace, and boundaries The unspoken belief that it’s your job to fix the financial gap A powerful reframe: What if EOFY became a reset instead of a pressure cooker? A quiet permission slip to stop doing more and start doing what matters Episode Highlights What the rising cost of living is doing to our time, energy, and peaceThe hidden cost of trying to be the solution when money gets tightWhy mums often feel responsible for “fixing” financial stressWhy EOFY can be both a trigger and an opportunity for reflectionA reminder that your worth isn’t measured by your output Links + Resources→ Come say hi on Instagram: @‌balancedbizmama→ Join The Balanced Business Mama Circle→ Subscribe to never miss an episode!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Feeling like everyone else is racing ahead while you’re barely staying afloat? You’re not behind - you’re just building something real, and you’re doing it your way. In this episode of Coffee, Clients & Naptime, we’re unpacking that “I’m falling behind” feeling - the one that creeps in when you scroll through Instagram, see someone’s highlight reel, and instantly feel like you’re not doing enough. This isn’t a strategy session. It’s a permission slip. I’m sharing: My early biz story and why I still felt behind (even when things were growing) Why social media messes with our perception of success A powerful reframe that will help you stop running a race you never meant to enter A journaling prompt to reconnect with what success actually looks like for you A simple mindset practice I call the “Proof List” to track your growth This episode is for the mamas growing slowly, intentionally, and with their whole hearts. Episode Highlights The myth of overnight success (and what’s really behind it)Why slow growth isn’t failure, it’s sustainabilityWhat success looks like for you, not the algorithmThe one question that always brings me back to centre Links + Resources→ Come say hi on Instagram: @‌balancedbizmama→ Join The Balanced Business Mama Circle→ Subscribe to never miss an episode!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When Business and Motherhood Clash: The Reality of Being the Default Parent
Being the default parent doesn’t just mean doing more, it means you are carrying more, and I see you. In this raw and honest solo episode of Coffee, Clients & Naptime, I’m sharing what it actually feels like when the weight of motherhood, business, and the mental load all crash into each other, and it’s you left holding the pieces. This isn’t a productivity episode. There’s no plan to follow.Just truth. Real life. And a reminder that if you’re stretched right now, it’s not because you’re doing it wrong - it’s because you’re carrying a lot. Inside this episode, I talk about: The invisible weight default parents carry (and why it’s exhausting) The guilt of “not coping” when you should know how to manage it all The quiet resentment that sometimes creeps in, and why it’s a signal, not a shame Micro moments of control that help me move through the mess Letting go of the “hero complex” so we can ask for what we need Whether you’re hiding in the laundry or sitting in the car before pick-up, this episode is your permission slip to stop holding it all together and start holding space for yourself. Episode Highlights When systems still don’t feel like enoughWhy being capable doesn’t mean you’re not overwhelmedWhat I remind myself when I feel like I’m dropping the ball A gentle, powerful reminder: You’re not alone. You’re doing enough.
