Episode 79: tell Him what your heart wants

The world does not revolve around us now, and Heaven won’t be about us either. One of the best ways we can begin to experience Heaven on earth is to surrender our own agenda and live for and focused on the glory of God. an excerpt from 2 Corinthians chapters 5 & 6 :: Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. But what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience. We are not commending ourselves to you again but giving you cause to boast about us, so that you may be able to answer those who boast about outward appearance and not about what is in the heart. For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;  that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.  For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain.  For he says,“In a favorable time I listened to you,    and in a day of salvation I have helped you.”Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.~ Patient endurance is what we need now. Episode 76: this gift of existence

a few thoughts on time and being ... death has already been sentenced; and non-existence is not a neutral opposite alternative. to exist is to experience, enjoy, and embody the love, grace, and essence of God; God He is not obligated to continue to sustain those who refuse to submit to His ways. ~ Patient endurance is what we need now. Episode 75: Fear & Glory

In this episode, I'm sharing some thoughts about the ways in which a pilgrimage mindset and failing to submit to God's process can sometimes lead to idolizing people; and what it can look like for God to provide rest and restoration for our souls in the midst of this wonky world. A passage for nourishment :: "In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith - more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire - may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen Him, you love Him. Though you do not now see Him, you believe in Him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls." ~ 1 Peter 1:6-9 See Also :: ~ 1 Peter 1:10-12~ 1 Peter 4:12-19~ Matthew 11~ Matthew 28:20~ Hebrews 5:14~ Psalm 23~ Psalm 34:7 ~ Psalm 46:11~ Patient endurance is what we need now. Episode 74: A God Worth Walking With

"... for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists, and that He rewards those who seek Him." • Hebrews 11:6" For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward Him." • 2 Chronicles 16:9... a reflection on the connection between consecration and preservation. {clarification on the two anecdotes I share at the end of this episode :: the two instances are unrelated. the person the Lord had me reach out to was not part of a church or ministry I had ever heard of.} †  Scripture references for suggested reading ::Genesis chapters 5-9Genesis chapter 18Malachi {in its entirety}Job chapters 35-37Esther {in its entirety}John 16:331 Peter {in its entirety} 1 Corinthians 2:1-52 Corinthians 1:3-11Exodus chapters 1 - 12Jeremiah 17:5-8Psalm 119:71 Psalm chapters 34, 73, 85Luke chapter 181 & 2 Thessalonians {each, in its entirety}~ Patient endurance is what we need now. Episode 73: Panning For Gold in the River of Your Soul

As we walk with the Lord, we will never grow to a place of independence from Him, but we can learn to be more intentional with Him. An encouragement to prepare our thoughts and emotions as an offering to the Lord ... there's a difference between thoughts and prayers. References ::  "Formerly in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, he said, “Come, let us go to the seer,” for today's “prophet” was formerly called a seer." • 1 Samuel 9:9the phrase, "washing with the water of the word" comes from Ephesians chapter 5 ... we are also encouraged in Romans chapter 12: "Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."~ Patient endurance is what we need now. Take heart. ~

Episode 72: Hope in the Lord

a few thoughts on thinking outside of 'turns', having an eternal attention span, and a more steady hope ... "For God alone, O My soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from Him. He only is my rock & my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation & my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God." // Psalm 62:5-7~ Patient endurance is what we need now. Take heart. ~

    Episode 71: Imbalanced Intimacy

balance :: a harmonious or satisfying arrangement or proportion of parts or elements, as in a design. As believers, we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to be doers of the Word and walk in love with one another ... In John 15, Jesus says, "By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples." Galatians 5 lists some of these fruits :: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. By this, all people will know that we are Jesus' disciples - if we have love for one another. « suggested reading :: James, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, The Gospel of John« referenced writing ~ being near the brightness ~ Patient endurance is what we need now. Episode 69: prayer, perfectionism, a pivot in perspective

a few thoughts on humility & persistence in prayer ... "May the Christian reader be encouraged by this, should his prayers not at once be answered; instead of ceasing to pray, he should wait upon God all the more earnestly and perseveringly, and expect answers to his petitions." ~ George Müller, Release the Power of PrayerJames 1:2-4 :: My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. ~ Patient endurance is what we need now. Take heart. ~

Episode 67: Written With The Finger of God

"And He gave to Moses, when He had finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God." • Exodus 31:18In this episode, I'm exploring some thoughts about the Law of God and how it has not expired, nor has it become null and void. The way in which we 'get it fixed' has shifted. The former covenant has been made obsolete in favor of a new and better way. Hebrews 8 says, "Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant He meditates is better, since it is enacted on better promises." In this new way, we are not only given a means by which to 'fix it' when the same law gets broken, we are empowered to stop breaking it. In lesser news, Songtober is in session! Episode 64: Noah, Shem, Abram, Israel

track with me for some Sims 2 story time and a brief examination of the identity of Israel ... the Gospel Good News is that through repentance of sin and faith in King Jesus, whosoever will can enter into covenant with God. covenant with God has been made available through Jesus, but must be entered through submission to God's ways ... and adoption into the existing family of God should not produce arrogance or disdain towards the people we are grafted into. Exodus 33:13 (NLT) :: If it is true that you look favorably on me, let me know your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor. :: Couple things, I realized in listening to the recording  :: 1. Technically Melchizedek is not Jewish, so I guess Prof. PBS was right about that, lol. (See Hebrews chapter 7, and Genesis chapters 14-15)2. I forgot to mention that after God establishes covenant with "all flesh that is on the earth" through Noah, Shem is blessed for exhibiting the character of God by honoring his father (Noah) without there being a law or commandment in place that required him to do so. I thought that was a cool aspect of the lineage of faith and honor for God that God seems to be responding to as He interacts with this people group.  (See Genesis 4-12)~ Patient endurance is what we need now. Episode 63: Evangelical Alliteration

Follow up thoughts on the point, the purpose, and the process ... Millennial musings on abstinence, emotional spending, and cultivating the fruit of The Spirit ... being conformed to the image of Christ brings glory to God as a means in itself; and is, itself, worth all the wrestling and endurance. {also, to clarify ~ still team abstinence to the glory of God. No Ragrets, ha. But there is grace for anyone who has made other decisions and mistakes. xo}'Unpack' - EP is out now on Bandcamp!! Thanks for listening! ~ Patient endurance is what we need now. Episode 62: Authenticity, anointing, & peddling God's Word

Authority and anointing in a believer's life are the fruit of purity and authenticity before God ... none of which can be bought, manufactured, or faked. Episode 61: This Puddle of My Time

Life is not a burden, but a gift. Time is so much less about the sequence of events or living through things in alignment with our whims or cultural convention, but that we experience the things at all. Our lives are a collection of interconnected moments, and more like rain or water drops; we are colored like paint on the canvas of God's creation.Referenced Scriptures ~ John 3:30 « He must increase, but I must decrease. Episode 57: Spreading Like Nerves & Roots

I often think of the 'point' of something as singular and efficient. Learning to ask about purpose acknowledges the vast expanse of things, and is a helpful tool in evaluating heart posture; a practical way to soften when you're tempted to be critical. In every season there is a network of reasons, and it spreads like nerves and roots. Ecclesiastes 8:17 "...then I saw all the work of God, that man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun. Episode 47: Restlessness & Dissonance

« In {Jesus} lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I am telling you this so no one will deceive you with well-crafted arguments. For though I am far away from you, my heart is with you. And I rejoice that you are living as you should and that your faith in Christ is strong. And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow Him. Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority. // Colossians 2:3-8, NLT « Ask rain from the Lord in the season of spring rain, from the Lord who makes the storm clouds, and He will give them showers of rain to everyone the vegetation in the field. For the household gods utter nonsense, and the diviners see lies; they tell false dreams and give empty consolation. Therefore the people wander like sheep; they are afflicted for lack of a sheperd. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity. But that isn’t what you learned about Christ. Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.So stop telling lies. We have the opportunity to reflect and reciprocate the hospitality of our Creator by making intentional arrangements to meet with Him ... a few thoughts from the start of a study on the lifestyle of the levitical priesthood. Referenced Scriptures: Exodus chapters 20-31 ~ Patient endurance is what we need now. Episode 39: Inspiration & Self-Control

"Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ." // Jude 3 & 4 "I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another." // Galatians 5:16-22~ Patient endurance is what we need now. Take heart. ~

    Episode 38: Are you entertained?

How will we spend our redeemed time and restored energy?  If we can't be bothered to engage with God and in scripture unless it's a production, we need to repent and get our life together, lol. The Word of God does not need to be enhanced by visual expression, or made more entertaining. We adorn the Gospel by living it and abiding in Christ. As long as we idolize, and are addicted to entertainment, we're not ready to experience more of the glory of God ... because we won't rightly revere it.Scripture References: Revelation 21:6, 22:17; Isaiah 55; Matthew 7, 12, Acts 8; Mark 8; Colossians 2:3; 1 Samuel 13, 28 ~ Patient endurance is what we need now. Take heart. ~

    Episode 37: Oaks of Righteousness

God is never unfaithful, but I have often been impatient and unthankful ... thoughts on delight in God as a permanent heart posture and a necessary component of endurance; the faithfulness of God to continually transform us into enduring oaks of righteousness.Recommended Reading :: Ecclesiastes, 1 Corinthians 2:1-5, 2 Peter 1:3-10, 1 Peter 1:6, 1 Peter 4:12-13,19; James 1:2-4, Psalm 34, Psalm 37, Isaiah 61, 2 Corinthians 5~ Patient endurance is what we need now.
