Finding Your Path When the Map Doesn’t Fit: Dr Dan Eddy on Identity, Struggle, and Self‑Discovery
In this episode, I sit down with Dr Dan Eddy, a guy who’s written 22 books, earned a PhD, and still somehow skipped the whole undergraduate‑degree part of the journey. Dan opens up about the tougher chapters of his life, including years of severe depression and a late diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder that finally helped him understand why he’d always felt out of step with the world around him. What’s striking about Dan is this quiet certainty he carried for years, that he was meant to do something unique even when he had no idea what that “something” was. Instead of forcing himself down the mainstream path, he found his own way forward, one that made sense for how he thinks, learns, and creates. This conversation is honest, warm, and full of those moments that make you rethink the pressure to follow a “normal” path. Dan’s story is a reminder that there’s no single way to build a meaningful life, and sometimes the most unconventional routes lead to the most authentic outcomes.https://www.daneddybooks.com/

In a family full of thieves
Join Andrea Gullick on the journey to becoming comfortable in your own skin in this powerful episode of the "Comfortable in Your Own Skin" podcast. The path to this level of self-contentment often requires untethering from family stories, confronting generational patterns, and addressing personal trauma or hardship. Andrea dives into the intricacies of how our personal, social, and familial environments shape us, often binding us in limitations and dysfunction. However, Andrea suggests that we don't need to wallow in these experiences but rather have an intimate awareness of them. Understanding our dysfunctional patterns holds the key to freeing ourselves from their chains. During the discussion, Andrea explores the intriguing statement, "In a family full of thieves, the one that doesn't steal can feel guilty." This concept draws attention to the unconscious contracts we sign within our family dynamics, possibly taking on burdens not meant for us or altering behaviors to fit in, even when they deviate from what’s morally right. Andrea explores the idea that discomfort may arise when we make healthy choices that don't align with our family or environment's status quo. The need for belonging, ingrained in us from infancy, can influence our choices and behaviors significantly, creating dysfunction that persists into adulthood. This episode uncovers how being comfortable in your own skin sometimes demands permission to walk our path, make conscientious choices, and truly understand where these influences come from. Embarking on this enlightening path is the first step toward personal freedom.

The one next step
Welcome to "Comfortable in Your Own Skin" podcast where we explore the path to developing a better relationship with yourself. Together, we embark on a journey of discovering radical honesty, conscious choices, and living a life on point. The host, Andrea Gullick, a speaker, writer and international mentor, guides us on this transformation. Frequently, people fail to take the essential first step towards their desires due to the fear of failure or the burden of perfection. Andrea points out the necessity of making conscious, action-oriented choices to manifest dreams irrespective of how grand or minute they appear. Andrea introduces the concept of accessing higher consciousness which she believes eliminates perceived limitations and provides access to all possibilities. This advanced state of awareness transcends the logical mind and doesn’t require one to bear the emotional toil of healing past wounds but rather to acknowledge their presence and grow from them. She asserts that harnessing the power of this superconscious state requires clarity about what one wants and the genuine reasons behind those desires. Andrea emphasizes the importance of seeking guided action over blind action, driven not by the goal of proving oneself or filling a void but, by love and genuine interest. She reassures her listeners that taking the first step may feel daunting, but one can tap into their superconscious for guidance. This act of conscious alignment eradicates the need for knowing ‘how’ and places trust in 'what' and 'who'. The takeaway from this episode hinges on the transformative power of radical honesty, self-love, and higher consciousness. Andrea encourages her listeners to commit to a stronger relationship with themselves to form a life of contentment, joy, and authenticity.

Love what you do. Do what you love.
Welcome to the "Comfortable in Your Own Skin" podcast! I am your host, Andrea Gullick - a speaker, writer, and international mentor who believes in living a life on point. And how can you do that? By being comfortable in your own skin. Together, we'll explore the path to this destination, discovering why you are not already there. Maybe it's untethering from family stories and generational patterns, past traumas, or just profound personal questions like who do you think you exactly are. This journey is about you becoming your most authentic self. In this episode, I'll share my thoughts on aligning with your natural state and breaking free from societal conditioning. Many people feel disheveled, stressed, and inadequate because they are fighting who they truly are. You have the power to create a life that suits you, not a "one hat fits all" existence. You can choose to make your own rules, pursuing what you love and being guided by the internal signals that say what you should do in the moments you are meant to do them. Allow yourself to flow naturally, breaking the shackles of expectations. Here, I share the story of my attendance at a dance and bonfire breathwork experience, a decision guided solely by my personal interest and love for the event. I illustrate how often we deprive ourselves of experiences due to conscious or unconscious fears of external judgment. However, the reality is, everyone is more interested in their perception of themselves than judging you. Remember, you are allowed to enjoy life while chasing success and sculpting your aspirations based on your own feelings, Therefore, what if you asked yourself more frequently, what do you love doing, creating, and experiencing? If fulfillment, joy, contentment, happiness come from these activities, why not do them more? And you will discover that the more joyous moments you accumulate, the more effortlessly you will attract everything you dream of - health, wealth, love, and peace. All these are not contingent on you sacrificing anything but fully expressing your highest self. However, how do you even start that journey? Start by evaluating how fulfilled you feel at the end of the day. Gauge the amount of peace, contentment, joy, and happiness in your life. If you spend more time in stress, anger, frustration than in joy, you need to recalibrate. The answer probably lies in allocating more time to do things you love. Reprogram your life balance, carve a harmonious path to prosperity, and be comfortable in your own skin.

Unleashing Your Unique Gifts
In this episode, I delve into the power of recognising and valuing our unique skills and abilities. With a focus on honesty, we explore the balance within recognising our strengths and the fear of sharing that with others. The balance could shift either way, with people underselling themselves due to fear of arrogance, or oversharing their skills in an attempt to grandstand their abilities. Both extremes suggest a discomfort in one's own skin and the middle ground lies in acknowledging and owning our talents without the need for validation. The things we are naturally good at are innate gifts. By understanding and accepting that our abilities don't define us as an individual, but are separate from us, allows us to share them without fear of judgment or condemnation. By detaching our identity from our skills, we start to see them as valuable gifts that we can share and contribute to the world, rather than defining points of our self-worth. This episode invites listeners to reflect on their natural skills, the things they are effortlessly good at, and consider how they can utilise them to effect positive change in the world around them. This is the true essence of being comfortable in your own skin - simply embracing, owning and sharing your unique skills and talents without fear or worry about external validation.

A Discussion about Mental Health
On this episode I speak candidly about my experience with mental health, particularly depression and anxiety from two separate occasions in my life. I share perspectives on dealing with mental illness, and although I was dealing with extreme personal trauma, I believe my depression was linked to my people-pleasing tendencies, which created an internal turmoil that drove me further into a state of mental instability. I contrast this with my postnatal anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder, which was a result of unresolved trauma, rather than personality traits. This episode delves into the connection between the ability to accept oneself and one's mental state – how comfort in one's skin can impact mental wellbeing. Driven by a belief that mental illness, in some cases, can be a result of not being able to make choices that are right for oneself, I discuss the need to change this narrative and instead of striving to make choices based on what makes us feel whole and comfortable in our own skin. I address the potential chaos of conforming to external expectations while sacrificing your personal needs — suggesting it's a harmful path which can lead to mental instability. In the face of these pressures, my message is to reclaim autonomy and to prioritise one's own needs in the journey of self-love and acceptance.
