    On this episode we're joined by friend of the show Wes to discuss "Wake the Devil," a Hellboy story that exemplifies what makes the work of Mike Mignola so damn good.  "Wake the Devil"  is a clash of mythologies and folk lore that's equal parts horror, comedy, noir, and super hero action adventure, but it somehow transcends all those genres to become a stone-fisted whole greater than the sum of its parts.

     This episode gets political as friend of the pod, Steven, drops by to talk about the soul shattering graphic novel and political allegory about the invasion of Iraq, Pride of Baghdad.  Written by Brian K. Vaughan with art by Niko Henrichon, Pride of Baghdad's power is no less diminished today, and reading it now reminds us that the Iraq War isn't settled history.  It's and open wound that's has not yet be able to heal.

    On this episode the hilarious comic and all around wonderful person Amber Bixby sits down to talk about Black Hole by Charles Burns, one of the most devastatingly heartbreaking comic book stories of the modern era.  Using the conceit of a horrifying new STD that creates grotesque and even supernatural disfigurement in its victims, Black Hole explores adolescent alienation and the vulnerability of youth to both material and social poverty in a way no other graphic novel has.

    On this episode Robyn Reynolds of Knife Club returns to the Comic Canon Revival to help us break down the terrifying piece of vampire pulp that is 30 Days of Night… both the comics and its film adaptation.   Created by Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith and later adapted by director David Slade, 30 Days of Night is a story with an intriguing conceit that takes the vampire back to its monstrous and ravenous origins.  This one will keep you up at night.

This DC event offers equal parts thrills and chills, is executed with cinematic flair, and thematically explores death and its effect on our most beloved heroes.  It's a harrowing Green Lantern adventure served up in that timeless DC style.  This was a comic story we couldn't wait to sink our fangs into.
