Excellence Undefined: Creating Visual Standards for Worship Teams with Andrew McKinney | S3 E15

Episode 15Andrew McKenna leads church relations at Worship Initiative after serving as a worship pastor for over 20 years. In this Conversation with Ministry Leaders, he shares valuable insights about the current state of worship ministry. He talks to us about creating visual standards for worship teams. The bar for entry has risen significantly. Today's worship teams use click tracks and backing tracks. However, biblical and musical literacy has declined among new volunteers. This creates a challenging environment for worship leaders.Excellence means different things to different people. Therefore, clear communication becomes essential. What works in South Carolina won't necessarily work in Seattle. Churches must define success within their local context. Additionally, style guides and templates help volunteers succeed without feeling overwhelmed by creative decisions. The visual landscape varies greatly by church size and context. Some churches invest heavily in LED walls and motion graphics. Others embrace minimalism with simple text on black backgrounds. Interestingly, experienced leaders often gravitate toward simplicity. Less clutter creates more meaningful experiences for broader audiences. Simple design takes time to master.McKenna offers encouragement to ministry leaders everywhere. More opportunities exist now than ever before for training and development. Online programs and cohorts provide relational connections and growth opportunities. Most importantly, leaders shouldn't rob their teams of chances to develop. The need remains great in worship ministry. Worship Initiative stands ready to partner with churches through their resources at worshipinitiative.com.CONNECT WITH CHURCH VISUALS ON SOCIAL MEDIAinstagram.com/churchvisualsfacebook.com/groups/churchvisualstwitter.com/churchvisuals[email protected]SHOW NOTES

Elevating Your Church's Visual Communication with Jenny Altman | S3 E14

Episode 14Jenny Altman joins Conversation with Ministry Leaders from the Onward conference to discuss elevating your church's visual communication.First, she explains the difference between good and great design. Good design communicates your message effectively. However, great design creates lasting emotional impact that people remember.Next, Jenny covers essential design fundamentals. She emphasizes hierarchy - making important information bold, bigger, and positioned higher. Additionally, she discusses designing on grids for proper alignment and proportion. Furthermore, color theory plays a crucial role. For instance, red and yellow together trigger hunger - explaining why McDonald's and other restaurants use these colors. Then, the conversation shifts to who should handle church design work. While tools like Canva make design accessible, Jenny believes trained designers bring passion and expertise that ministry leaders lack. Instead, pastors should focus on their calling - shepherding people. Moreover, Jenny addresses AI's impact on creative roles. She firmly believes AI won't replace human designers. AI lacks the human touch, spiritual insight, and community care that church creatives possess. Rather, AI serves as a helpful tool for streamlining productivity. Finally, Jenny shares her designer toolkit. She relies on Adobe Creative Suite as her foundation. Additionally, she recommends Canva Pro, which nonprofits can access for free. She also uses ChatGPT for AI assistance and platforms like Behance for inspiration.Throughout, Jenny encourages church creatives to pursue excellence, seek community, and remember their greater purpose in ministry.CONNECT WITH CHURCH VISUALS ON SOCIAL MEDIAinstagram.com/churchvisualsfacebook.com/groups/churchvisualstwitter.com/churchvisuals[email protected]SHOW NOTES

Small Churches, Big Challenges: Digital Ministry with Hannah Coleman and Alex Lyons | S3 E13

Episode 13In this episode of Conversation with Ministry Leaders we talk about small churches facing significant challenges especially with digital ministries. In fact, 70% of South Carolina state's 1,900 Baptist churches are plateauing or declining. Meanwhile, many congregations struggle with limited resources and staff wearing multiple hats.Alex Lions and Hannah Coleman from the South Carolina Baptist Convention share insights on these pressing issues. They discuss how smaller churches are transitioning from in-person only to digital-first approaches. However, many church leaders lack the technical skills needed for modern communication. The conversation reveals a key shift in strategy. Previously, the Baptist Convention focused solely on reaching pastors as gatekeepers. Now, they're developing resources that speak directly to congregation members. Additionally, they're creating evangelistic content for streaming platforms like Amazon Prime and YouTube.Visual communication plays a crucial role in gospel outreach. Hannah explains that quality design doesn't require perfection. Instead, it needs clarity and aesthetic appeal to capture attention. Furthermore, different visual styles reach different audiences effectively. The discussion also explores AI's impact on church communications. Interestingly, Gen X and millennials embrace AI tools most readily. Meanwhile, both boomers and Gen Z show more resistance to artificial intelligence. This episode offers valuable insights for church leaders navigating digital transformation challenges while maintaining their evangelistic mission.CONNECT WITH CHURCH VISUALS ON SOCIAL MEDIAinstagram.com/churchvisualsfacebook.com/groups/churchvisualstwitter.com/churchvisuals[email protected]SHOW NOTES

Building Unity Between Worship Teams and Visual Production with Adam Westlake | S3 E11

Episode 11Worship leaders face increasing expectations beyond music. Today, they manage teams, budgets, and creative departments. However, many feel unprepared for these expanded roles. We're talking about building worship team unity and more on the Conversation with Ministry Leaders podcast.Adam Westlake from Worship Initiative joins Carl Barnhill to discuss comprehensive worship ministry. First, he explains how their organization resources worship teams holistically. Rather than focusing solely on music, they provide training in ministry and leadership skills. Additionally, they offer devotional content and doctrinal resources for each song.Next, they explore the critical relationship between worship and production teams. Unfortunately, these groups often work in silos. Instead, they should function as one unified team. Moreover, successful collaboration requires intentional relationship-building beyond work functions.Adam shares practical steps for team unity. Simple activities like shared meals create natural connection points. Meanwhile, casting a broader vision helps teams see beyond individual tasks. Ultimately, everyone serves the same goal: encouraging congregational worship. Finally, they discuss the role of visuals in worship leadership. Visuals matter when they serve the greater purpose of worship. Similarly to how music surrounds lyrics with beauty, visuals can enhance the worship experience. However, the focus should remain on glorifying God rather than showcasing technical capabilities.Throughout the conversation, Adam emphasizes that worship leaders must become multipliers. They need skills in conflict resolution, budget management, and team leadership. Consequently, organizations like Worship Initiative fill these training gaps. Most importantly, all team members, worship leaders, musicians, and production staff, work together to help congregations sing God's word.CONNECT WITH CHURCH VISUALS ON SOCIAL MEDIAinstagram.com/churchvisualsfacebook.com/groups/churchvisualstwitter.com/churchvisuals[email protected]SHOW NOTES

Building Worship Teams: From Volunteers to Visuals with Andrew Lucius | S3 E10

Episode 10Andrew Lucius joins Conversation with Ministry Leaders to discuss worship ministry trends at Charleston Southern University. He talks about building worship teams and some of the trends for visuals in worship. First, he shares how COVID-19 initially devastated worship programs across the country. However, his program has bounced back dramatically. They've grown from just four majors two years ago to over twenty students today.Next, Andrew dives into volunteer management strategies. He emphasizes that recruiting volunteers isn't just about filling positions. Instead, it's about creating spaces for pastoral care and ministry. Furthermore, volunteers need to feel valued as people, not just for their skills. The discussion then shifts to technology's growing importance in worship. During the pandemic, tech workers became heroes in many churches. Consequently, worship leaders now face pressure to master multiple areas beyond music. They're expected to handle tech teams, creative departments, and communications.Additionally, Andrew addresses common struggles facing new graduates. Surprisingly, it's not musical ability or technical skills that cause problems. Rather, character development and conflict management present the biggest challenges. These young leaders need more real-world church experience during their training. Finally, the conversation explores visual media's role in worship. Andrew explains that churches have always communicated visually through stained glass and architecture. However, he reminds listeners that faith is primarily word-based. Therefore, visuals should support the gospel message, not overshadow it.Throughout the interview, Andrew provides practical insights for worship leaders, pastors, and church staff navigating today's ministry landscape.CONNECT WITH CHURCH VISUALS ON SOCIAL MEDIAinstagram.com/churchvisualsfacebook.com/groups/churchvisualstwitter.com/churchvisuals[email protected]SHOW NOTES

Why Choirs and Visuals Matter in Worship with Josh Epton and Julie McNeely | S3 E7

Episode 7Josh Epton and Julie McNeely from Church of the Mill in Spartanburg, South Carolina join Conversation with Ministry Leaders and share their expertise on building thriving worship choirs.First, they discuss how choirs are making a comeback after years of decline. Many churches removed choirs during the praise and worship movement. However, leaders now recognize the void this created.Next, they explore the biblical foundation of choirs. Throughout scripture, choirs led the charge in spiritual warfare. Similarly, modern worship choirs serve as a diverse representation of the congregation. This visual diversity helps worshippers identify and engage more deeply. Then, the conversation shifts to visual support systems. Technology has transformed how choirs operate. Previously, choir members held books during worship. Now, confidence monitors free their hands for full-body worship leading. Additionally, strategic screen placement keeps eyes lifted rather than looking down.Furthermore, Josh and Julie emphasize collaboration with creative teams. They begin all planning with scripture. Subsequently, they work closely with visual teams to create cohesive worship experiences. This includes coordinating background colors, scripture videos, and LED wall content. Finally, they address potential visual distractions. Too much movement can hinder worship. Conversely, thoughtful visuals enhance the spiritual journey. They avoid concert-style elements like haze on regular Sundays. Instead, they focus on intentional visual choices that support the message.Throughout the discussion, both speakers stress the importance of surrendering to the Holy Spirit's leading. Ultimately, they view themselves as brushes in God's hands, painting worship experiences that draw congregations closer to Him.CONNECT WITH CHURCH VISUALS ON SOCIAL MEDIAinstagram.com/churchvisualsfacebook.com/groups/churchvisualstwitter.com/churchvisuals[email protected]SHOW NOTES

From Distraction to Support: Making Visuals Work for Worship with Jonathan Hazle | S3 E6

Episode 6Worship leader Jonathan Hazle joins the Conversation with Ministry Leaders show to discuss building authentic worship bands. First, he emphasizes that worship teams should reflect their congregation, not copy other churches. Instead, leaders must focus on the people God has entrusted to them each Sunday. He also talks about using visuals for worship.Next, Jonathan explores how song selection, arrangement, and production should match the church's context. Moreover, he stresses that worship leaders should be committed church members. He highlights that only pastors and worship teams get to lead the entire congregation. Then, the conversation shifts to visual media's crucial role in worship. Jonathan explains how the person running ProPresenter is actually one of the most important worship leaders. Furthermore, visuals can either support worship or become major distractions.Additionally, Jonathan shares practical collaboration tips. He recommends Thursday run-throughs to check every lyric and transition. Also, he suggests asking production teams for input rather than just giving orders. This approach creates true teamwork instead of hierarchy. Finally, Jonathan discusses detailed communication strategies. He describes using ProPresenter labels to cue camera operators and technical staff. These labels announce upcoming solos or speaking moments three slides in advance. Consequently, the entire team stays synchronized.Throughout the episode, Jonathan emphasizes that every screen represents an opportunity to lead people into God's presence. Therefore, churches must be faithful stewards of their visual resources, whether they have one TV or massive LED walls. Ultimately, authentic worship happens when teams work together to serve their specific congregation rather than imitating others.CONNECT WITH CHURCH VISUALS ON SOCIAL MEDIAinstagram.com/churchvisualsfacebook.com/groups/churchvisualstwitter.com/churchvisuals[email protected]SHOW NOTES

Using AI for Church Visuals and Content with Raz Bradley | S3 E5

Episode 5Church elder and financial planner Raz Bradley joins us in this episode of Conversation with Ministry Leaders. He shares his journey into AI tools for churches and ministry. He's currently subscribed to four AI platforms after testing six or seven options. His favorites include Suno AI for music generation, ChatGPT for creative work, and Midjourney for image creation.Bradley discusses the evolution of AI technology. Initially, generated images had distorted features like seven fingers. However, these tools have rapidly improved over the past year. Now they offer practical applications for church ministry. The conversation explores ethical considerations around AI in church settings. Bradley believes AI shouldn't write sermons since authentic content matters for worship. Instead, he suggests using AI as a research tool. Churches can upload public domain works like Calvin's Institutes and query them directly. For visual content, Bradley explains different AI strengths. Midjourney excels at photorealistic images like beautiful Christmas trees. Meanwhile, Dall-E handles text-based graphics better. He often combines these tools with Photoshop or Canva for final touches.Bradley has created custom AI tools for his kids' ministry. These generate craft ideas and coloring pages based on Bible verses. This saves significant time for ministry leaders.Video generation remains challenging. Pulpit AI and the Future of Visuals in Church with Michael Whittle | S3 E4

Episode 4Michael Whittle joins Conversation with Ministry Leaders to discuss his journey with Pulpit AI.He worked in startups for 15 years in advertising and ad tech. However, his passion for ministry never faded. After planting a church in Los Angeles in 2015, he accidentally discovered the intersection of AI and church technology.Pulpit AI exists to amplify local church pastors' voices. The platform takes sermon content and transforms it into discipleship materials. These include devotionals, small group guides, and discussion questions. Moreover, the AI stays trained specifically on pastor sermons rather than external datasets. This approach ensures theological accuracy and maintains the pastor's authentic voice. The company began when Michael uploaded a podcast episode to an AI tool. He was amazed by the results. Next, he tested it with his pastor friend's sermon. The outcome was so impressive that he immediately bought the domain and built a simple web app. When he tweeted about it in summer 2023, the post went viral overnight.Today, users can upload various file formats including MP3s, videos, and PDFs. The platform automatically generates content and includes a chat feature for sermon coaching. Additionally, Whittle believes AI will revolutionize how pastors learn from their entire sermon libraries. However, AI also presents new challenges for believers. Some of these require pastors to navigate complex theological and emotional territories that didn't exist before.CONNECT WITH CHURCH VISUALS ON SOCIAL MEDIAinstagram.com/churchvisualsfacebook.com/groups/churchvisualstwitter.com/churchvisuals[email protected]SHOW NOTES

Owen shares his unique journey to faith through apologetics and biblical archaeology. He helps unpack how we can use visuals that convert viewers.Throughout the episode, Owen reveals proven strategies for churches looking to expand their digital reach. He emphasizes the importance of compelling video titles that draw viewers in. Instead of generic sermon titles, churches should create "juicy bait" that captures attention immediately.Owen discusses the balance between long-form and short-form content. He recommends focusing on quality long-form videos first. Then, thoughtfully repurpose them into standalone short-form pieces. YouTube's recent expansion to three-minute shorts changes the game entirely.Content strategy becomes crucial for church success online. Owen advocates for treating YouTube like Netflix rather than social media. Churches should develop content pillars addressing specific community problems. Creating series-based content encourages binge-watching behavior. The conversation explores production quality versus authenticity. Owen suggests finding the sweet spot between unwatchable amateur footage and overly polished content. Sometimes filming portions on mobile phones actually increases viewer trust and engagement.Owen challenges churches to pursue excellence in their digital ministry. He believes God opens doors through viral content that shouldn't be ignored. When guest speakers visit, churches should maximize those opportunities with strategic video content. The episode concludes with practical advice for pastors and ministry leaders. Owen emphasizes that YouTube audiences aren't captive like Sunday congregations. Content must compete for attention in an increasingly noisy digital landscape.CONNECT WITH CHURCH VISUALS ON SOCIAL MEDIAinstagram.com/churchvisualsfacebook.com/groups/churchvisualstwitter.com/churchvisuals[email protected]SHOW NOTES

The Art of Church Visuals in Multi-Site Ministry with Samuel Dueth | S3 E2

Episode 2In this latest episode of Conversation with Ministry Leaders, Samuel Dueth from Awaken Church in San Diego joins the show to discuss multi-campus ministry and discipleship resources. Awaken Church operates 11 campuses across multiple states. Each campus has live preaching pastors rather than simulcast services. He talks to us about visuals in multi-site ministry.Samuel authored "Following Jesus," a discipleship book designed as next steps for new believers. The book covers seven foundational elements including prayer, worship, Bible reading, and making disciples. It's been serving churches for eight years now. The goal is creating active followers rather than passive Christians. The conversation shifts to visual media's role in church ministry. Samuel emphasizes balance between Holy Spirit dependence and intentional atmosphere creation. Different events require different visual approaches. Some need high energy graphics while others need softer touches.Awaken Church's planning process involves long runways for major events like conferences. However, weekly sermon graphics work differently. Each campus preaches unique messages within themed guidelines. The central creative team produces graphics for all 11 campuses. Pastors submit message titles and points through an online form, sometimes as late as Saturday morning.Samuel highlights the importance of cohesive visuals that match the message. He shares examples of when graphics missed the mark versus when they perfectly complemented the sermon. With his graphic design background, he appreciates production teams' challenges and timeline pressures.CONNECT WITH CHURCH VISUALS ON SOCIAL MEDIAinstagram.com/churchvisualsfacebook.com/groups/churchvisualstwitter.com/churchvisuals[email protected]SHOW NOTES

Essential Visuals for Church Social Media with Nils Smith | S3 E1

Episode 1Welcome to a new season of Conversation with Ministry Leaders. In this episode we sit down with Nils Smith to talk social media and specifically what are essential visuals for church social media.First, we explore his eight-year journey serving in ministry at Hillsong. Then, dive deep into social media strategy for churches.Nils shares practical wisdom from his book "The Social Media Guide." He emphasizes leading with inspiration rather than marketing. Moreover, he highlights how real ministry happens in comments and DMs, not just content creation.Next, we discuss platform priorities. YouTube emerges as the top recommendation for consistent growth. Additionally, Instagram and TikTok offer unique opportunities. However, Nils warns against spreading too thin across platforms. Furthermore, we examine video content strategy. Long-form sermons perform best on YouTube. Meanwhile, short clips can drive traffic to full messages. Quality continues to matter more than quantity. The conversation then shifts to visual content. Motion graphics are becoming essential for engagement. Therefore, churches should invest in motion design capabilities. This investment improves average view duration and platform reach. Finally, Nils offers actionable takeaways. He recommends getting one percent better with each video. Focus on thumbnails, audio quality, and visual elements. Most importantly, prioritize YouTube as the platform for future church growth.Whether you're a solo pastor or part of a large team, this episode provides practical steps for digital ministry success.CONNECT WITH CHURCH VISUALS ON SOCIAL MEDIAinstagram.com/churchvisualsfacebook.com/groups/churchvisualstwitter.com/churchvisuals[email protected]SHOW NOTES

Show Don't Tell: Using Visuals to Communicate Your Church's Message with Justin Nava | S2 E12

Episode 12Join us for an insightful Conversation with Ministry Leaders with Justin Nava from Nava Church Marketing. He specializes in helping churches build effective online presences. Throughout this episode, we explore the critical role websites play in modern church outreach and using visuals to communicate the church's message.First, we discuss why church websites matter so much today. Nine out of ten people visit a church's website before stepping foot in the building. This makes your online presence your digital front door. Therefore, creating an engaging website becomes essential for effective ministry.Next, Justin explains his unique approach to church web design. Rather than focusing on aesthetics alone, he emphasizes purpose-driven design. Every church has a unique mission and calling. Consequently, their website should reflect that distinctive identity clearly. We then dive into practical website strategies. Justin reveals what churches should stop doing immediately. Many churches talk too much about themselves instead of addressing visitor needs. Instead, successful websites focus on how the church serves its community.Additionally, we explore the power of visual storytelling. Photos and graphics matter more than lengthy text blocks. People scan websites quickly and form impressions instantly. Therefore, authentic images of your congregation tell better stories than stock photos.Furthermore, testimonials emerge as crucial website elements. Real stories from church members carry more weight than promotional content. These authentic accounts help visitors envision their own potential experience. Finally, we address common website mistakes churches make. Missing basic information like addresses creates unnecessary barriers. Simple oversights can prevent visitors from taking that important first step toward connection.CONNECT WITH CHURCH VISUALS ON SOCIAL MEDIAinstagram.com/churchvisualsfacebook.com/groups/churchvisualstwitter.com/churchvisuals[email protected]SHOW NOTES

Elevating Your Message: The Power of Sermon Review and Visual Support with Ben Stapley | S2 E11

Episode 11In this episode of Conversation with Ministry Leaders, our host Carl Barnhill welcomes back frequent guest and friend, Ben Stapely to discuss the transformative practice and power of sermon review.First, Ben shares his 20-year ministry experience, explaining how sermon review saved both his ministry and marriage by creating healthier boundaries. Moreover, he emphasizes that reviewing sermons before preaching improves message quality while creating margin for family and staff. The conversation then explores practical implementation. Specifically, Ben recommends sending sermon manuscripts to trusted advisers midweek for feedback. Additionally, he suggests seeking input from diverse voices who will provide honest critique rather than simple affirmation. Meanwhile, Ben clarifies that the preacher maintains final authority on content decisions.Next, the discussion shifts to visual elements in preaching. Surprisingly, despite 80% of people being visual learners, many preachers focus exclusively on words. Furthermore, Ben highlights how visual support makes messages more memorable and suggests studying effective visual communication in growing churches and news broadcasts. The pair also cover technical approaches to incorporating visuals during services. For instance, Ben recommends options like placing a TV beside the preacher or utilizing LED walls, with consideration for blocking and positioning. Finally, Ben addresses common objections to sermon review—lack of time and concerns about limiting the Holy Spirit. In contrast, he argues that spending one additional hour refining the message that occupies 60% of service time is worthwhile. Ultimately, Ben reminds listeners that the Holy Spirit works through preparation as much as presentation, benefiting both the preacher and the entire ministry team.CONNECT WITH CHURCH VISUALS ON SOCIAL MEDIAinstagram.com/churchvisualsfacebook.com/groups/churchvisualstwitter.com/churchvisuals[email protected]SHOW NOTES

Episode 10In this insightful Conversation with Ministry Leaders, we hear from Jay Kranda, an online church veteran with over 13 years of experience at Saddleback Church. Despite his digital expertise, Jay challenges the notion that "online church is the answer." Instead, he emphasizes that simply streaming services is not enough. Online ministry is more than just streaming. Churches need to think beyond weekend services and embrace digital tools for comprehensive discipleship.Jay shares his "alpha omega approach" for integrating technology throughout church ministry. He notes that post-COVID, many churches saw 15-25% retention in their online audiences, with many in-person attendees "double-dipping" by engaging with both physical and digital content. The conversation then shifts to the power of visuals. Jay explains that in our attention-seeking culture, visual elements significantly enhance engagement and retention. He references a study showing that people remember only 10% of what they hear but 80% of what they see. Furthermore, he shares a personal experience of watching Seth Godin use powerful visuals that complemented his presentation without ever turning to look at the screen. Finally, Jay offers a practical tip: pay attention to content that makes you stop scrolling. By reverse-engineering what caught your attention, you can improve your own visual communication. Beyond Pretty Visuals: Solving Real Problems in Church Messaging with Wes Gay | S2 E5

Episode 5In this episode of Conversation with Ministry Leaders, Carl Barnhill sits down with Wes Gay, a certified StoryBrandexpert, to discuss effective communication in church ministry. Together they are discussing solving real problems in church messaging.First, they explore how churches often struggle to communicate clearly and compellingly about their events and initiatives. Next, Wes explains that many churches make the mistake of using insider language, forgetting their audience doesn't attend staff meetings.Through practical examples, Wes demonstrates how to transform boring announcements into engaging pitches that address real problems people face. For instance, instead of simply promoting a men's event called "Driven," he shows how to frame it around solving struggles in family leadership.Additionally, Wes emphasizes that visual media should flow from clear messaging. He shares a powerful story about raising funds for a church roof by focusing not on the shingles but on creating spaces for student ministry. Moreover, Wes provides two key takeaways from corporate spaces that churches should implement. First, churches should send one good, consistent email per week with clear calls to action. Why Visual Quality Matters in Ministry with Rick Dempsey | S1 E3

Episode 3 In a recent conversation with Rick Dempsey, former Disney executive and current Senior Vice President of Creative at Come and See Foundation (The Chosen), he shared powerful insights about why visual quality matters in ministry. As church leaders, we can learn valuable lessons from his 35-year journey at Disney and his current work spreading the Gospel through The Chosen series.   The Reality of Our Media-Saturated Culture "We are so media saturated these days," Dempsey emphasizes. "People just don't pick up books anymore like they used to." This reality presents both a challenge and an opportunity for churches. Our congregation members—from kids to adults—are consuming high-quality visual content daily through their phones, tablets, and TVs. They've developed sophisticated visual expectations that affect how they engage with content.   Quality as a Bridge, Not a Barrier When our visual presentation lacks quality, it can become a barrier to the message we're trying to communicate. Dempsey notes, "As soon as you start thinking, 'that looks cheesy' or 'that doesn't look right,' it immediately takes you out of the reality of what it needs to be." This is particularly crucial for youth ministry, where students are especially attuned to production quality through their daily media consumption.   Practical Steps for Improving Visual Quality Prioritize Planning Time Don't leave visual preparation for Saturday night. Quality requires intentional planning and execution. Focus on Authenticity Ensure your visuals authentically represent your message. This includes appropriate lighting, props, and art direction that support rather than distract from your content. Invest in Basic Tools While you may not have a Hollywood budget, today's technology offers affordable tools to create professional-looking content. Start with what you have and gradually build your capabilities. Maintain Consistency Develop a consistent visual style across all platforms—from Sunday presentations to social media posts. This builds trust and recognition with your audience.   Excellence as a Testament Dempsey reminds us that "we're called to do everything to the best of our ability. Everything we do should be to the glory of God." This applies to our visual communication as much as any other aspect of ministry. When we create high-quality visual content, we're not just following cultural trends—we're demonstrating excellence in our calling to communicate God's truth.   The Bigger Picture The goal isn't to compete with Hollywood productions or create viral social media content. Rather, it's about removing unnecessary barriers to the Gospel message. As Dempsey points out from his experience with The Chosen, when visual quality matches the power of the message, people are more likely to engage and remain engaged.   Moving Forward Start by evaluating your current visual communication. Are there areas where quality issues might be distracting from your message? Remember, you don't need to transform everything overnight. Begin with small, intentional improvements in one area, whether that's your Sunday presentation slides, social media graphics, or video announcements. The message of the Gospel is timeless, but our methods of communicating it must remain relevant and excellent. As Dempsey concludes, "We have to stay relevant to an extent to where our youth, this generation, can observe the things of the gospel and we can reach them through media because that's what they're watching. That's what they're doing."
