He claimed to be an 18-year-old Marine heading off to war, and she alleged to be an attractive young woman sending him off with provocative pictures. Or so they thought. However, they were actually two middle-aged people carrying out a fantasy internet relationship that seemed like a harmless lie. The senseless death of Colleen Slemmer
Awe, young love can drive us to do crazy things, like steal a car, rob a bank, or murder someone we thought was trying to steal our significant other. But most people would fortunately not do any of things and either end the relationship or figure out some more mature way of handling the situation. That would not be the case for Christa Pike and Tadaryl Shipp. Sources: Christa Pike: The Youngest American Woman Ever Sentenced To Death (allthatsinteresting.com) Christa Pike | Murderpedia, the encyclopedia of murderers Colleen Slemmer's Mom Wants Christa Pike, Only Woman On Tennessee's Death Row, Executed (newsweek.com) State v. The babysitter no one would want.
She was the youngest child in an unusual family; her father, Thomas, was 65 years old at the time of her birth, while her mother, Ann, was, at 16, still a minor. The family was below the poverty line, and Christine did not receive the necessary early childhood support. Because of this, she was considered mentally challenged; she also had epilepsy and was also obese. To make matters worse, her parents also physically and sexually abused her. She required a regular dose of medication to control her epileptic seizures. What do an insurance agent, his wife, and a charismatic pastor: have in common? part 2
The insurance money was a factor for Teresa, but by walking away from the church, Randy took her farther away from David. She no longer would work in the church kitchen, attend choir rehearsals, or other David’s sermons stir the congregation on Sunday mornings. Randy also knew, or suspected, enough to possibly crash David Love’s future. His financial questions could get David fired from New Hope. And if he acted on suspicions of his wife’s affair, Randy could wreck any hope that David Love would work again as a Baptist pastor. Whether or not he realized it, Randy Stone had become the greatest threat to David Love’s happiness and livelihood. What do an insurance agent, his wife, and a charismatic pastor: have in common? part 1
Minutes later, David Love stepped off an elevator, flanked by two detectives. Teresa Stone emerged from a hallway with her detective escort, looking as if she had stumbled into a chance meeting. The two stopped and looked at each other. In their final encounter, neither spoke the truth. “I told them everything,” a distraught Teresa said. David appeared stoic and did not speak for 20 seconds. “Don’t worry,” he said. “I will take care of everything.” Sources: Teresa Stone | Murderpedia, the encyclopedia of murderers Former Marine's Murder Exposes Wife's Affair with Pastor - ABC News (go.com) https://thecinemaholic.com/randy-stone-murder-where-are-teresa-stone-and-david-love-now/ --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

38 years behind bars and a dog named Inn
At about 11:30 am on November 8, 1979, a black man walked into a newly opened antique store in Gretna, Louisiana. The owner, B.N., a 39-year-old white woman, became suspicious. She attempted to direct him to furniture outside, but he grabbed her from behind and clubbed her in the head with a handgun as she walked to the front door. He then forced her into a bathroom at the rear of the shop and raped her at gunpoint. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

I thought this was summer camp
Summary: He planned to bring a group of boys together, allow them to make friends, then separate them into two factions to compete for a prize. He believed they would forget their friendships and start demonizing one another at this point. The piece de resistance was to come at the end: he planned to set a forest fire in the vicinity of the camp. The intentional forest fire would force the boys to work as one team again, facing a shared threat. I did it because he ruined my wife!
One beautiful girl, two extravagant and prominent men. Throw in jealousy and a family history of mental instability and you have the recipe for a shocking murder, at an outdoor theater in the heart of New York City in front of nearly a thousand witnesses. The trial that followed was quickly dubbed "the trial of the century." The 1907 trial, and a second the next year after the first jury hung, helped closed the curtains on America's "Gilded Age." The Devil Tree
Found in Port St. Lucie, the Devil Tree is a big oak in a county park on canal C-24. A mighty oak, an ordinary tree, nothing to write home about…except the fact that thing might as well growl and snatch up little old ladies and unsuspecting kids and gobble them up like a throwback from a Grimm Fairy tale. The Devil Tree has an evil, macabre, and incredibly blood-soaked reputation; one that’s entwined with Florida history and its amazing capacity to attract the worse of the worse that humanity has to offer. Christian Burial Speech
Summary: “I want to give you something to think about while we’re traveling down the road… Number one, I want you to observe the weather conditions, it’s raining, it’s sleeting, it’s freezing, driving is very treacherous, visibility is poor, it’s going to be dark early this evening. They are predicting several inches of snow for tonight, and I feel that you yourself are the only person that knows where this little girl’s body is, that you yourself have only been there once, and if you get a snow on top of it you yourself may be unable to find it. And, since we will be going right past the area on the way into Des Moines, I feel that we could stop and locate the body, that the parents of this little girl should be entitled to a Christian burial for the little girl who was snatched away from them on Christmas Eve and murdered. And I feel we should stop and locate it on the way in rather than waiting until morning and trying to come back out after a snow storm and possibly not being able to find it at all.” Sources: https://www.oyez.org/cases/1976/74-1263 https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/430/387/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brewer_v._Williams https://www.casebriefs.com/blog/law/criminal-procedure/criminal-procedure-keyed-to-weinreb/the-privilege-against-self-incrimination/brewer-v-williams/ --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

"I want fireworks." part 1
It happened on the church volleyball court, on a late-summer day in 1978. Candy and Allan both tried to make a play on the same ball—and collided. It was a harmless bump, really, and went unnoticed by everyone else on the court, but for Candy, it brought a revelation: Allan Gore smelled sexy. For several weeks she had been talking abstractly to friends about having an affair. Candy wanted something to shake up her “very boring” life with Pat. She was explicit about the kind of affair she was interested in transcendent sex.
