Ruth is certified as a Mindfulness Meditation teacher and mentor under Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield, through the MMTCP (Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification) and the MMT (Mindfulness Mentor Training) programs. She is also a trained therapist, holding a Masters’ degree in Voice Movement Therapy. She has been attending yoga classes with Peter Blackaby for the past 30 years, and has completed three modules of the Non-Violent-Communication training. Her interest in the natural functioning of the body has inspired her to work closely with Alexander Technique, Qi Gong, Body Mapping and Feldenkrais practictioners, and her musical experience includes not only classical music but folk, Indian and African traditions. Over the last ten years Ruth has given Breathing Bow and mindfulness workshops in California, France and the UK, at the Yehudi Menuhin School, the Royal Glasgow Conservatoire, the Royal Northern College of Music and Benslow Music, and for members of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. She has presented for the European String Teachers’ Association International Conference and the London Cello Society. She is regularly invited as a mindfulness coach to the Verbier festival. Pauline Frechette is a contemporary composer.  Her melodies and harmonies take you to unexpected places, emotionally driven yet only 3 or 4 minutes long. After weeks of hustle, I'm finally in a phase where I can focus on practicing and enjoying music for the sheer joy of it. It’s a refreshing change!  But I know many of us feel the weight of expectations to always be productive. Heather Niemi Savage is a North Carolina-based composer with an eclectic style drawing on her broad background in classical, jazz, musical theater, and sacred music. Her compositions have been performed throughout the United States by ensembles such as the Argus String Quartet, the North-South Consonance, the Great Woods Symphony, and members of the Raleigh Symphony. Her most popular piece “Daughter of the Stars,” for string orchestra, placed second in the 2020 American Prize for Composition (pops/light music  division.) Dr. Molly Gebrian is a professional violist and scholar with a background in cognitive neuroscience. Her area of expertise is applying the research on learning and memory to practicing and performing music. Katherine Needleman is a musician from Baltimore, Maryland, USA. She was introduced to music in the formerly robust music education programs of the public school system, having played violin, clarinet, oboe, keyboards, and percussion there. She was accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia at age 16 and dropped out of high school to attend. Later, she was expelled for academic incompetence by the Juilliard School in New York a month after winning their oboe concerto competition. She has played the oboe professionally for a long time now and has observed her own feelings about being one of the few women included change over time. She is very interested in the potential of music and tries to write some herself. She is interested in the relationship between composers, performers, and the stage. Recent musical highlights for Needleman include accompanying her cellist daughter in the Haydn C Major Concerto at a middle school assembly, a recital where most everything felt right and good at a retirement home outside of Philadelphia, and an 8am performance of her “Stolen Prophet” for oboe and piano and her “Spike Protein” for twelve oboes in Kansas. She enjoys arranging music she loves by dead white men and people who aren’t dead white men to make it possible to play great music not written for the oboe on the oboe. She maintains a blog and Facebook page of some notoriety about her observations of and experiences in the world and the classical music industry.
