What started off as humorous social media posts about the struggles of dad-hood has now grown into a full blown movement with hundreds of videos, over a million followers and a new book. Jon’s openness and honesty are an encouragement to dads to take their mental health seriously, be willing to lay down their ego, and understand that in this day and age, dads are asked to do so much more than ever before, and if you’re showing up, and you’re tired, that means you’re doing it right. Jon, Nate and Jesse talk about lessons we’ve learned from dad-hood, the joys of watching our kids grow up and sobriety. The guys also cover the magic of music that came out in the late 90’s, early 00’s and the impact of nu-metal and grunge on heavy music today, as well as “moshing” at home with our kids. While whoever bought Furnace Fest out obviously has deep pockets and is able to bring in the biggest names in heavy music, the fear for those who cherish the spirit of Furnace Fest is that the heart of the festival is now gone. While mental health is a major focus of this podcast, physical health is a big deal too, so Nate and Jesse share their tips on preventing a week of soreness from one night in a mosh pit. This week, Jesse and Nate debate whether In and Out is actually good, Jesse talks cruises, and they talk about taking your kids to hardcore shows - is it a good thing to do, and if so, what are the rules of engagement with kids there? Also, the guys reveal another layer of their inner souls and reveal their guilty pleasure bands that they've been too afraid to admit up until this point and it does not go as Nate planned...The dads also go over the idea of how to deal with the stress of life in healthy ways, versus unhealthy ways. Unhealthy ways of dealing with stress often involved quick "fixes" that are never actually permanent fixes, but they make you feel better momentarily, only to leave you feeling the same, if not worse once it wears off. Longevity is the name of the game when it comes to mental health. Pain sucks, but it's not always a bad thing in and of itself, and if we can embrace it and power through it, we'll be better off in the long run. Welcome to the Dads Who Mosh Podcast! Nate runs solo this week and starts be re-capping the Drain show with No Pressure, Haywire and Secret World. As the Great Mosh Debate continues, a few things are becoming clear: people in the hardcore community have strong opinions about moshing (to put it lightly), and at this point, "hardcore" music covers a wide spectrum: from deathcore, to beatdown, to hardcore punk, to what Nate is now calling "pop-core". Lots of folks think that they have the market cornered on what is actually "hardcore", but just like the people in the scene, heavy bands are all different, and the diversity makes this growing scene better as the years go by. Later, Nate talks about the frustrations of depression and anxiety. Not only are those two things incredibly difficult to deal with on a daily basis, but oftentimes, guys can feel guilty or even angry that they are experiencing those negative emotions because everything in life is seemingly fine. It's in those moments that it never really helps to have someone just tell you to "look on the brightside" or try to list off all of the great things in your life. What can really help is just having someone to listen and not judge, knowing that depression and anxiety often don't have a cause that we can easily explain away. Welcome back to the Dads Who Mosh Podcast! In this episode, Jesse and Nate get their first look at the lineup for Sound and Fury 2026! The dads also swap recent show stories and talk about bands like Poison the Well and Converge, that we'll defend until we die, no matter how good their new material is. They also look back on Furnace Fest and try to anticipate what the future of the festival will look like after being sold to a major festival company (and pray that it hasn't been sold to Kid Rock).

Nate survived Furnace Fest and has some stories to tell! From the blistering Knocked Loose Main Stage set, to the emotional finale of Petey USA's Pond Stage set, to the beautiful mayhem that was every set on the Shed Stage, Nate recounts his magical weekend at Furnace Fest.

In this episode of Dads Who Mosh, Nate recaps the Terror show and how weird Spirit World is. He also goes over how Take Off Your Pants and Jacket by Blink-182 is a perfect album, and then talks about the impact that spiritual abuse can have on people and mentions Holy Hurt by Hillary L. McBride.

In this episode, Nate talks about the Poison the Well tour and how it's bringing together the old and the new generation of hardcore kids. Also, the lineup for Within These Walls at The Nile in Mesa is STACKED!In the last episode, we talked about how guys need to have a lighthouse - this week we talk about the impact it can have on us to miss our lighthouse during the week and struggle on without that point of contact. Finally, Nate complains a little bit about how much the American dream costs nowadays, but that just makes the moms and dads out there who are working hard every day mean even more.

In this week's episode, Nate goes over the STACKED lineup for Furnace Fest. Also, anniversary shows where bands play an album front to back - are they good or kinda lame? This week's perfect album review is Black Mile to the Surface by Manchester Orchestra.Nate also talks about how guys need to have a "lighthouse" every week, something that no matter how tough the week gets, they know that they can look forward to that, and that they will have a place where they can find some relief from the craziness of life.

In this episode, Nate's good friend Jake calls in from Melbourne, Australia. The guys get very real about the feelings that dads can go through and how even though those feelings may be wrong, or come from believing things that aren't true, the feelings themselves can be very real. A real man isn't someone who never feels these negative things, but is someone who overcomes them and keep fighting for their family. One of the best things to do is find someone you can talk to about these things. Also, Nate and Jake decide that the new Architects album is already internationally recognized as the Album of the Year.
