His contacts included writers T. S. Eliot, D. H. Lawrence, Ezra Pound, W. B. Yeats, Lawrence Durrell, C. P. Snow, and others. Lowell was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, in 1874.SolitaireBy Amy LowellWhen night drifts along the streets of the city, And sifts down between the uneven roofs, My mind begins to peek and peer. It plays at ball in odd, blue Chinese gardens, And shakes wrought dice-cups in Pagan temples Amid the broken flutings of white pillars. It dances with purple and yellow crocuses in its hair, And its feet shine as they flutter over drenched grasses. How light and laughing my mind is, When all good folk have put out their bedroom candles, And the city is still.================================================================================Joseph A Pasquale is an American author who writes in a variety of literary genres, including poetry, memoir, and literary fiction. Pasquale is the author of literary novel, Dear Sparrow; also The LOVE JUNKY series spanning over 3000 pages (unpublished). Abraham Lincoln's Poem, "My Childhood-Home I See Again"

Abraham Lincoln wasn't exactly a professional poet, but he was a deeply sensitive writer who often turned to verse to process grief and nostalgia. His most famous original poem, written in 1846 after visiting his childhood home in Indiana, captures a haunting, somber mood.  This special reading by fellow poet Joe A Pasquale.  "My Childhood-Home I See Again" By Abraham Lincoln (Excerpt) My childhood-home I see again, And gladden with the view; And still as mem'ries crowd my brain, There's sadness in it too. O memory! thou mid-way world 'Twixt Earth and Paradise, Where things decayed, and loved ones lost In dreamy shadows rise. And freed from all that's earthly vile, Seem hallowed, pure, and bright, Like scenes in some enchanted isle, All bathed in liquid light. Lincoln wrote this during a political campaign. Returning to the place where his mother and sister were buried triggered a "poetic reflex." It reveals a side of Lincoln many people forget: the melancholy dreamer who was obsessed with the passage of time and the finality of death. While he wrote his own verse, Lincoln was most famous for reciting "O Why Should the Spirit of Mortal Be Proud?" by William Knox. He quoted it so often that many people at the time actually thought he wrote it. It’s a bit of a "memento mori"—a reminder that no matter how powerful we are, we all end up in the same place.================================================================================Joseph A Pasquale is an American author who writes in a variety of literary genres, including poetry, memoir, and literary fiction. Pasquale is the author of literary novel, Dear Sparrow; also The LOVE JUNKY series spanning over 3000 pages (unpublished). Paul Laurence Dunbar's Poem, WE WEAR THE MASK

Paul Laurence Dunbar's Poem, WE WEAR THE MASK"We Wear the Mask," published in 1895 by Paul Laurence Dunbar, is a foundational work of African American literature. It explores the psychological toll of racism and the necessity of hiding one's true emotions to survive in a hostile society. The poem is a Rondeau—a complex French poetic form that relies on repetition to create a sense of entrapment and persistence.           This special reading by fellow poet Joe A Pasquale.   We Wear the MaskBy Paul Laurence DunbarWe wear the mask that grins and lies, It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes,— This debt we pay to human guile; With torn and bleeding hearts we smile, And mouth with myriad subtleties. Why should the world be over-wise, In counting all our tears and sighs? Nay, let them only see us, while We wear the mask.We smile, but, O great Christ, our cries To thee from tortured souls arise. We sing, but oh the clay is vile Beneath our feet, and long the mile; But let the world dream otherwise, We wear the mask!================================================================================Joseph A Pasquale is an American author who writes in a variety of literary genres, including poetry, memoir, and literary fiction. Pasquale is the author of literary novel, Dear Sparrow; also The LOVE JUNKY series spanning over 3000 pages (unpublished). Charles Lamb --- Sonnet, "A timid grace sits trembling in her eye..."

A sonnet written by Charles Lamb  (1775–1834) . This special reading by ©2023 Joe A Pasquale.  The poem is widely believed to be inspired by Ann Simmons, a young woman from Hertfordshire whom Lamb loved in his youth. He often referred to her in his writings (including his famous "Elia" essays) by the pseudonym "Anna" or "Alice W——n."A timid grace sits trembling in her eye, A timid grace sits trembling in her eye, As loath to meet the rudeness of men’s sight, Yet shedding a delicious lunar light That steeps in kind oblivious ecstasy The care—crazed mind, like some still melody: Speaking most plain the thoughts which do possess Her gentle sprite: peace, and meek quietness, And innocent loves, and maiden purity: A look whereof might heal the cruel smart Of changed friends, or fortune’s wrongs unkind: Might to sweet deeds of mercy move the heart Of him who hates his brethren of mankind. Turned are those lights from me, who fondly yet Past joys, vain loves, and buried hopes regret. ===============================================================================Joseph A Pasquale is an American author who writes in a variety of literary genres, including poetry, memoir, and literary fiction. Pasquale is the author of literary novel, Dear Sparrow; also The LOVE JUNKY series spanning over 3000 pages (unpublished). "Sonnet on Chillon" sonnet written by George Gordon, Lord Byron (1788-1824)

"Sonnet on Chillon" was a sonnet written by George Gordon, Lord Byron (1788-1824). This special reading by ©2023 Joe A Pasquale. Photography Credit: World History Archive / Alamy Stock Photo The most flamboyant and notorious of the major English Romantic poets, George Gordon, Lord Byron, was likewise the most fashionable poet of the early 1800s. He created an immensely popular Romantic hero—defiant, melancholy, haunted by secret guilt—for which, to many, he seemed the model.  "Sonnet on Chillon" by George Gordon, Lord Byron Eternal spirit of the chainless mind! Brightest in dungeons, Liberty! thou art, For there thy habitation is the heart, The heart which love of thee alone can bind; And when thy sons to fetters are consigned To fetters, and the damp vault's dayless gloom, Their country conquers with their martyrdom, And Freedom's fame finds wings on every wind. Chillon! thy prison is a holy place, And thy sad floor an altar, for 'twas trod, Until his very steps have left a trace Worn, as if thy cold pavement were a sod, By Bonnivard! - May none those marks efface! For they appeal from tyranny to God.================================================================================Joseph A Pasquale is an American author who writes in a variety of literary genres, including poetry, memoir, and literary fiction. Pasquale is the author of literary novel, Dear Sparrow; also The LOVE JUNKY series spanning over 3000 pages (unpublished). live at The Fitzroy Tavern London, "After the Fire Has Burned" Poetry Reading sketch

"After the Fire Has Burned" Poetry Reading at The Fitzroy Tavern London, by Joseph A Pasquale, an original poem.              "I wrote this poem about 50 yards from Dylan Thomas' grave in a cottage where we stayed. I could see his grave at will with just a simple step outside and a levitation upon my tip toes to overlook the cemetery.           Our house fire in Laugharne inspired the poem that I wrote about an hour later. I had just sat down to write what was beginning to birth itself in my mind, when the fire broke out, and I had to race and wake Maggie, as she was trapped upstairs in the attic with the drop down stairs.           Anyhow, I was able to put it out. I reckon a few more seconds and I wouldn't have been able to. The house fire then sort of worked its way into the new poem beginning from the first line. I wrote it fast, in 15 minutes, titled "After the (Final) Fire Has Burned." This special reading was done inside of the Fitzroy Tavern where so many literary notables and artists stoked out the ashy ends of their days and lived out their social conversations and prepared for the next transition of day melting into night, and light into darkness." Joe A Pasquale, (Photo/Video Memoirs Jan 28th 2025) ================================================================================All writing is 100% original by Joseph A Pasquale.
