Dangerous Conversations Ep. 63: Hall of Fame Honors, Losing Legends, & Acquired Tastes
The episode opens with some updates as Tommy discusses his impressive weight loss journey and how much better he’s feeling physically thanks to it. The guys take some time at the beginning of the show to pay their respects to Dennis Condrey who recently passed away. They share personal memories of Condrey’s toughness, smooth in-ring style, and professionalism, while also discussing how aging and loss have become increasingly common realities within the pro wrestling community. A major talking point centers on Sid Vicious (Eudy) being announced this week for the WWE Hall of Fame. Doug and Tommy both agree the honor is well deserved, recalling Sid’s freakish athleticism, imposing presence, and the unique ability to remain a top attraction in multiple major promotions. They also address how rumors and misunderstandings often shaped public perception of wrestlers’ reputations, especially in the pre-internet era when false advertising or missed bookings could easily damage a performer’s image without them ever knowing they were advertised for a show. Fan questions drive much of the episode’s second half. Highlights include: A humorous exchange about Doug’s legendary use of electrical tape throughout his career. Memories of working with enhancement talent and how many future stars began their careers “putting guys over” on television before getting their break in another territory. A serious discussion about wrestler safety prompted by a recent OVW incident involving a referee suffering a seizure mid match. Reflections on the funniest personalities in wrestling, with Brad Armstrong and Roddy Piper earning special mentions for their humor behind the scenes.Blending heartfelt tributes, territory storytelling, industry insight, and the trademark humor that defines the show, Episode #63 delivers another entertaining hour of old school wrestling conversation that longtime fans will appreciate. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Dangerous Conversations w/Doug Gilbert & Tommy Rich Episode #58: Road Stories, Promoters & Territory Tales!
On Episode #58 of Dangerous Conversations, “Dangerous” Doug Gilbert and Tommy “Wildfire” Rich settle in for another wild ride through wrestling history with road stories and the reality of life inside the territory era with plenty of the unpredictable tangents that make this show what it is.This episode blends classic road story storytelling with deeper discussion about the wrestling business itself, including promoter reputation, territory economics, and how relationships in wrestling were often built on trust, handshake deals, and personal reputation. The conversation moves between hilarious travel stories, territory promotion memories, and serious reflection on how the business has changed, especially when it comes to media, storytelling, and how wrestling history is presented today. The episode also dives into a bigger philosophical theme:How wrestling history gets told…Who gets to tell it…And why personal experience often differs from the “documentary version” fans see years later. As always, the episode wraps with upcoming appearance talk, fan interaction appreciation, and reflections on how surreal it is to still be talking wrestling 40–50 years after first breaking into the business. Dangerous Conversations Ep. 54: The Lost Art of Wrestling Psychology
On this episode of Dangerous Conversations, “Dangerous” Doug Gilbert and Tommy “Wildfire” Rich sit down with Gene Jackson for a deep, no nonsense discussion about one of the most misunderstood concepts in professional wrestling: heat. What does “getting heat” actually mean? Why is it different from “taking the heat”?And why do many modern wrestlers completely miss the point?Doug and Tommy break it all down the only way they know how with decades of real world experience from the territories, blunt honesty, and stories that don’t come from message boards or podcasts, but from working six nights a week in front of crowds who believed in what they were doing.Topics include:* The real meaning of heat, comebacks, and hot tags* Why referees shouldn’t be the ones getting heat* The difference between old school psychology and modern spot heavy wrestling* Why selling matters more than moves* The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express blueprint and why it still works* Why today’s “back-and-forth” style kills crowd investment* Territory wrestling vs. modern independent wrestling* Why fans still want heroes and villains, not “in-betweeners”* How belief, mystique, and kayfabe created emotional investmentThis episode isn’t about nostalgia, it’s about why wrestling worked, and why those lessons still matter today. If you’re a fan who’s ever wondered what’s missing, or a wrestler who actually wants to understand psychology instead of choreography, this is essential listening.👉 New episodes weekly👉 Send in your questions — Doug & Tommy will answer them ([email protected])👉 Like, subscribe, and join the conversation This is a public episode. Dangerous Conversations Episode #26: The Last Battle of Atlanta (Rich vs. Sawyer)
If you were a fan of Georgia Championship Wrestling in the early 80s, there was no feud more talked about or more memorable than Tommy "Wildfire" Rich vs. "Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer. As most folks know, this feud came to a head in a famous steel cage match that would be known as the "Last Battle of Atlanta". The match is memorable for many reasons. One of the reasons is the cage itself, it was unique in the fact that it was a steel cage that also had a chain link top that would go on to inspire the WWE's HELL IN A CELL cage years later. It's also famous because for decades it was believed that no footage of this match existed, it was the holy grail of the pro wrestling tape traders from the VHS days into the DVD days. But mostly it was memorable because it was an exclamation point on a violent and bloody feud that lasted over two years. This week, Doug & Tommy discuss the feud with Buzz Sawyer and everything that led up to it, the match itself, and even a few things you may not remember that happened after it.
