    Deckard September RIPEcast (2014)

Welcome home, Everyone. We hope you had a fabulous Burn. We're still sorting through the recordings from the Hoe Down and should have those out to you via The RIPEcast in the coming weeks. For now, enjoy this groovy tech house set from our man Deckard. "Earlier this year I was asked to put together a mix by Zach Moore for The Armory Podcast. After primarily playing out ghetto funk and breaks for the previous couple of years I was excited to bust out a batch of tech house type tracks I had come across. Inspiration comes along when you least expect it though and I ended up setting aside this version of the mix and updated it with a new and different direction. Months went by and I completely forgot about this unreleased version. I came upon it again recently at home and thought this would be a fun chance for people to see how my creative process works and a DJs sound can evolve." - Deckard For more information on Deckard visit: https://soundcloud.com/deckard-dj https://www.facebook.com/pages/DJ-Deckard/103355413814 Artwork by www.jempanufnik.com

Deckard RIPEcast: Live From SnowFest 2014

"Minimal sleep. Days and nights of music. Hot tubs. Cowboys rocking it all weekend and one wicked house party. That was my 2014 Snowfest in a nutshell and I loved every minute of it. By Saturday night it was a chore just to get to the venue. Energy was sagging to say the least. We walked in to Rrrus bringing the funk and Tamo got the crowd on the floor with a killer dance set and it was on. The last thing I remember was Mace lifting Kirk on his shoulders while he was DJing. Somewhere in between I laid down this set for the party Saturday night. Enjoy the party tunes." - Deckard For more information on Deckard visit: https://soundcloud.com/deckard-dj https://www.facebook.com/pages/DJ-Deckard/103355413814 Artwork by www.jempanufnik.com

DJ Deckard - My Definition Of Chill Vol. 6 - Jukebox Hero

For this installment of my chill series I found inspiration the moment I heard a vocodered voice singing Hotel California in the Luxxury edit. A week later I heard AfroQBen's amazing remix of Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith and I was off to the races. Being a New Wave kid as a teen I didn't get into many of these songs until my adult years and yet somehow I listen to this mix and it makes me feel like a teenager again. It's my birthday so please enjoy my birthday present to you! @deckard-dj www.facebook.com/pages/DJ-Deckard/103355413814

DJ Deckard - Breakfast of Champions 2014

This week's RIPEcast is from Space Cowboy's own DJ Deckard. Here's what he has to say for himself: "Breakfast of Champions is consistently my favorite party of the year both to DJ and attend. I opened the outdoor main stage at 9am this year and for all intents and purposes got to play the sunrise set I had been desiring to play but never got the chance at Burning Man earlier in the year. I took it as an opportunity and honor to be able to set the tone for the morning and get the party off on the right foot. I loved getting to play more of a house oriented set with vocals and a block party feel towards the end of the set. I had a blast playing and hope it shows through in the set." Bio: Deckard began DJing in Seattle in 2000 and soon began playing gigs up and down the west coast. Upon moving to San Francisco in 2005 he fell in love with the electronic music scene which is so unique to the Bay Area. You can find him spinning at San Francisco institutions such as Mighty, Shine, Supper Club, Wish and the End Up. Deckard capped off a successful 2009 by joining up with the Space Cowboys Burning Man camp. Depending on the crowd, venue and time of day you might find him spinning downtempo lounge, funky big beat, tech house, electro or breaks. http://www.soundcloud.com/deckard-dj https://www.facebook.com/pages/DJ-Deckard/103355413814

DJ Deckard - Black Rock Hoe Down 2013

Deckard sez: This year's Black Rock Hoe Down almost didn't happen for me. Thankfully due to moving up the Hoe Down to Wednesday this year I was able to play at what could be my favorite Hoe Down I've been to as well as hauling my ass off the playa on no sleep Thursday to trek back home to San Francisco and then travel all day Friday to northern Michigan. It was all worth it. Along with the usual array of generator, sound, fm transmitter issues. Nobody panicked but there are times when you look at people ready to let loose and only the monitors and 2 of the array of speakers are working (and none of the subwoofers) where you wonder if its going to come together. The generators, speakers and fm transmitter all commenced working around the same time and all of a sudden the Black Rock Hoe Down was in full effect. For me riding up and seeing the Mog in deep playa under the desert moon has always meant breaks. Big, badass, booty shaking breaks. It's a bit of a change from what I usually play these days. Hope you enjoy the nod to the past with current tracks. Here's a little clip I took from the booth in the Mog - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcOGlDuzd2A You can reach Deckard at Deckard [at] deckard-dj [dot] com Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/deckard-dj Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/DJ-Deckard/103355413814

Deckard RIPEcast - My Definition of Chill - Vol 4 - Part 1 (More Chill)

"Wow. My release of "My Definition of Chill Vol. 4 Part Two (Less Chill)" got a huge reception. Over 15,000 plays after SoundCloud featured it on their Explore Electronic music page. Really gratifying to know so many people took a listen and hopefully like what they hear. Here is Part One (More Chill). Initially I had these two parts together as one gigantic mix but over time each half took on its own personality. This one a bit more dreamy and lower tempo but still throws some punches." - Deckard  For more information on Deckard visit https://soundcloud.com/deckard-dj Artwork by www.chilithom.com

Deckard Live from Ghost Ship Apocalypse

Ghost Ship is one of my favorite parties of the year in San Francisco. It's a huge thrill getting to play the closing set on the main stage for a party that drew 6,000 people and more importantly a lot of my closest friends come out and let loose. It really doesn't get much better than playing in front of a huge room full of people going nuts inside a virtual apocalyptic town and UFO lighting rig overheard. I love being able to play some of my favorite big tunes from a variety of genres and go balls to the wall until the party closes and know that everybody there is along for the ride. I especially loved getting to throw down some new remixes on classics from Fatboy Slim and Plump DJs along with some huge tracks from Electric Soulside and Dancefloor Outlaws amongst a few others. It was a great time for me and I hope you enjoy the results. - Deckard Connect with Deckard here: www.deckard-dj.com https://www.facebook.com/pages/DJ-Deckard/ http://soundcloud.com/deckard-dj Artwork by www.jempanufnik.com For more information on the Space Cowboys visit www.spacecowboys.org

Deckard - My Definition of Chill - Vol. 3

Back again to leisurely rock your boomboxes with My Definition of Chill Vol. 3. I've been overjoyed with the reaction I've received from the first two installments.  What began as a mix I was initially going to keep to myself ended up becoming my most listened to mix I've released. For volume 3 my life in San Francisco was a big inspiration for the songs that made it in. A departure in style from both volumes 1 and 2. I'm really happy to share these 22 songs with you that I've been listening to for the last 6 months I've been putting this together. Lots of cool stuff I've run across with vocals from Bob Marley, Al Green and Paul McCartney, a classic from DJ Shadow remixed in elegant style, old school chill classics with Orbital and Nightmares on Wax (I had to include them at some point) and some nods to particular friends with a few of the songs. I want to send a big thank you to everyone who has expressed their gratitude for the My Definition of Chill mixes. It keeps the wheels turning knowing other people are really appreciating the end result.  I can't leave out a quick shout out to my fundraising effort for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I'll be competing in a triathlon September 8 in San Diego to that end. I hope you'll consider donating to a very worthy cause. As an incentive I will be providing an exclusive mix just for donors. Deckard Live from Breakfast of Champions 2012

"Breakfast of Champions has been my favorite event to DJ in San Francisco since the first year I was invited to play 4 years ago. I still remember playing Fatboy Slim's 'Talkin' Bout My Baby (under the big bright yellow sun)' to start my set downstairs at Whisper. I was really excited to bring out my favorite new tunes along with a couple from earlier in the year and a first for me in getting to play Myagi's 'Viper' which Rumblemunk and I remixed. I'm really happy with the tracks I played. Some filthy tunes in there for you to enjoy." - Deckard Saturday, January 21st join The Space Cowboys at The End Up in San Francisco for The Show. Deckard - Party People 4 (Pool Party)

Deckard - Party People 4: Pool Party Edition. I've been collecting a lot of funky, sunnier tracks this year. The sound is part lounge, funk, hip-hop, mashup, and even a taste of the 80s. When I started putting these tracks together for a mix I kept getting images of a pool party San Francisco style. Reminds me of sunny day parties I'd like to be at. I hope you enjoy this departure in sound for the Party People series.  Ghost Ship IV: The Afterlife is Saturday, October 29th on Treasure Island. Deckard Live from Ghost Ship 2010

For GhostShip 2010 I was extremely pleased to get the closing 3-4 AM slot inside the GhostShip, an honored slot to play if ever I've played one. I brought lots of ammo for this one. And after spending most of the year branching my sound out and playing more mid-tempo breaks and funk, I came back to my beloved electro for this gig. It's sixty minutes of big-room, peak-hour electro. Deckard - My Definition of Chill - Vol. 2

I've taken roughly 13 months since I first started compiling tracks working away on Volume II of "My Definition of Chill." Like a squirrel storing nuts for the winter I would find some tracks and add them to the project and forget about it for awhile. A couple months go past and I forage a few more. Well, it's ready now. Putting together dance mixes is a relatively straightforward process for me. A chill mix is a different beast entirely. I'm going to be honest and tell you most chill mixes bore the hell out of me. Maybe that's just me not searching out wide and far enough to find music that entertains me. Either way, in putting together this mix, I logged many many hours in compiling, editing, and mixing it together. Along the way I was able to mix in some of my all time favorite songs by favorite artists of mine (Ulrich Schnauss and Underworld) along with some new classics (Phoenix, LCD Soundsystem), some covers (Toto, Walk on the Wild Side) and hidden gems. I hope you, dear listener, enjoy the toils of my labor. - Deckard P.S. Only Part 2 is being featured on the Gough St. Sessions at this time. Deckard Live from Breakfast of Champions 2010

Breakfast of Champions is my favorite party of the year so it's always an honor to DJ at it. With 2009 being my first year as a Space Cowboy I'm hoping there are many more to follow. This year starting off the main room when the door opens I wanted to play both to those who were just starting their day and those who were going full force from the night before. I got a thrill out of playing a wide range of sounds at one of the biggest parties of the year. Happy New Year indeed! - Deckard THE SPACE COWBOYS RIPEcast is also available in iTunes.
